La quintessenza della borghesia nella collezione di Matteo Thun e Antonio Rodriguez per Baxter
La collezione di mobili che Matteo Thun e Antonio Rodriguez disegnano per Baxter è un omaggio iconico alla borghesia, a quello
spirito bourgois – mutante e sfuggente - che caratterizza il nostro tempo. Chic e moderno, ma senza eccessi: sono mobili pensati
per persone attive e curiose, dedite al lavoro e appassionate di cultura; attente allo stile e onnivore di tutto ciò che le
circonda: tecnologie, ambiente, arredamento, libri, arte, politica. E’ un’idea di living elegante, sobrio e sofisticato, che
non assomiglia in nulla ai saloni di rappresentanza. Divani e librerie, tavolini e consolles sono in legno pregiato e pelle,
materiali durevoli lavorati con sapienza e declinati in colori contemporanei. Linee semplici e dettagli ricercati, qualche
variante più femminile, modi garbati e scelte funzionali, per rispondere alle esigenze reali del bourgois contemporaneo, che
utilizza in modo informale la casa: non più (e non solo) per un «té delle 5 con pasticcini», ma per rilassarsi o ricevere amici
in uno spazio da vivere liberamente. Non è più, dunque, la borghesia – dal fascino discreto - che Luis Buñuel aveva criticato
aspramente nel suo capolavoro surrealista, né la borghesia inquieta e torbida di Jeanne Moreau che – nella Notte di Michelangelo
Antonioni - insegue le sue incertezze fino alla festa in una splendida villa. In entrambi i film, non a caso, gli interni delle
case sono emblematici dello status sociale. Il borghese contemporaneo è un cosmopolita, sicuro nelle scelte e sempre diverso da
un luogo all’altro. E’ illuminato a Milano, mitteleuropeo a Praga, sornione a Roma, frivolo a Parigi, esuberante a Napoli, snob
a Londra, eccentrico a New York. In ogni città ha i suoi luoghi elettivi e i suoi riti, tra bon ton e stile. Ma cerca la misura
di sé nella casa, specchio e rappresentazione della sua identità.

The quintessence of the bourgeoisie in the collection by Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez for Baxter
The furniture collection designed by Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez for Baxter is an iconic tribute to the spirit of the
bourgeoisie – evolving and elusive – that condenses together the qualities (and weaknesses) of our times. Chic and modern, but
without excesses: MTP furniture is designed for active and curious people, dedicated to work and passionate about culture;
attentive to style and absorbing everything that surrounds them: technologies, environment, furniture, books, art and politics.
MTP offers an elegant, sober and sophisticated living space, which is nothing like a showroom. Sofas and bookshelves, coffee
tables and consoles are in fine wood and leather, durable materials, skilfully processed and in a range of contemporary colours.
Simple lines and sophisticated details, some feminine variations, graceful style and functional choices, to meet the real needs
of the contemporary bourgeoisie, who use the home informally: no longer (and not solely) for “5 o’clock tea and cakes”, but to
relax or entertain friends in a space to be lived in freely. No longer, then, is it the bourgeoisie with the – discreet charm that Luis Buñuel so harshly criticised in his surrealist masterpiece, nor the anxious and troubled bourgeoisie of Jeanne Moreau
who – in La Notte by Michelangelo Antonioni – pursues her uncertainties as far as the party in a beautiful villa. In both films,
not by chance, the interiors of the houses are symbols of social status. The contemporary bourgeoisie are cosmopolitan, confident
in their choices and always different from one place to the next. They are enlightened in Milan, Central European in Prague,
mischievous in Rome, frivolous in Paris, exuberant in Naples, snobs in London, eccentric in New York. In each city, they have
their select locations and their rituals, involving etiquette and style. But they attempt to represent themselves in their homes,
mirror-images of their identity.

The Shows
Ai Saloni 2012 Baxter presenta una nuova collezione di imbottiti e complementi nati dalla collaborazione con Paola Navone.
Sono prodotti morbidi, tattili, familiari, naturali, vissuti. Molto diversi dall’immagine tradizionale dell’imbottito in pelle.
Come Baxter sa fare. Le pelli, alcune di riciclo, sono trattate con sofisticati sistemi di conce. Sono ammorbidite come fossero
tessuti. Anche i tagli e le cuciture delle pelli seguono questa logica. E ogni pezzo è a suo modo speciale e diverso dagli
altri. Gli imbottiti sono pensati per essere nido, culla, rifugio specialissimo. L’aspetto è così flessibile da poter cambiare
forma e assecondare ogni capriccio. Per dormire, stendersi, ritrovare energia, sentirsi finalmente a casa, leggere, meditare,
sognare. La collezione nasce anche con una particolare attenzione alla sostenibilità. Che significa uso di materiali e tecniche
a basso impatto ambientale. I nuovi prodotti Baxter sono presentati a in una cornice speciale. La casa pensata da Paola Navone
per Baxter è una casa metropolitana con i colori del mare. Una casa che accoglie la luminosità dei bianchi e le ombre dei blu.
Ironica e discreta. Intima e conviviale. Sorprendente e familiare. Una casa che è uno spazio aperto. Una casa delicata e senza
tempo. Miscellanea di cose diverse che si dialogano le une con le altre. Blu e bianco tingono ogni cosa. I muri e i pavimenti.
I letti e i divani. I mobili e le lampade. Blu polveroso. Blu denim. Blu profondo. Blu diluito. Blu che non è mai solo blu. C’è
un letto. Ci sono poltrone e divani Baxter rivestiti con pelli morbidissime in tante tonalità di blu. Ci sono tappeti bianchi
e blu che ricordano la tecnica tie&dye della tradizione indiana. Ci sono pareti rivestite con carta da parati dove minuti segni
blu diventano enormi impronte di colore stemperate nel bianco. Ci sono piccoli lampadari fatti di perline che riflettono la luce
in tutte le variazioni del bianco. Scenografiche applique ovali e ironicamente fuori scala illuminano una parete. E lampade
vestite di tessuto, con passamaneria e cordoni in tessuto arrotolato, reinterpretano i tradizionali paralumi in chiave sofisticata
poetica nei toni del blu.
At the 2012 Shows, Baxter is presenting a new collection of upholstery and accessories created through its collaboration with
Paola Navone. They are soft, tactile, homely, natural, comfortable products. Very different from the traditional image of leather
upholstery. Just as Baxter knows how. The leathers, some recycled, are treated with sophisticated tanning systems. They feel
soft, as though they were fabrics. Even the leather cuts and stitching follow this logic. And each piece is special in its own
way and different from the others. The upholstery is designed to be a nesting place, a cradle, a special refuge. The look is so
flexible that it is able to shape and cater to every whim. For sleeping, lying down, regaining energy, finally feeling at home,
reading, meditating, dreaming. The collection was also created with particular attention to sustainability. This means using
materials and techniques with a low environmental impact. The new Baxter products are presented in a special setting. The home
designed by Paola Navone for Baxter is a metropolitan home with the colours of the sea. A home that accommodates the brightness
of its white colours and the shadows of its blues. Ironic and discreet. Intimate and sociable. Surprising and familiar. A home
that is an open space. A delicate and timeless home. A miscellany of different elements which dialogue with each other. Blue and
white infiltrates everything. The walls and flooring. The beds and sofas. The furniture and lamps. Dusty blue. Denim blue. Deep
blue. Watery blue. Blue that is never just blue. There is a bed. There are Baxter armchairs and sofas upholstered in soft leathers
in many shades of blue. There are white and blue rugs that are reminiscent of the tie-dye technique of the Indian tradition.
There are walls covered in wallpaper where minute blue marks become huge imprints of colour diluted in the white.
There are small pearl chandeliers which reflect the light in all variations of white. Scenic oval appliqués, ironically oversized, illuminate a wall. And lamps covered in fabric, with trimmings and cords in rolled-up fabric, reinterpret traditional
lampshades in a sophisticated and poetic key in the different shades of blue.

Caratterizzato da una vasca leggermente arrotondata con un rivestimento che scende fino a terra e che ricopre tutta la struttura come se fosse
realizzato con un tessuto leggero e morbido. L’interno è molto soffice, fatto di grandi cuscini, comodi e panciuti come i guanciali di un letto,
che fanno da seduta e da schienale. Semplicemente, come un nido.
Characterised by a slightly rounded seat with upholstery which falls to the floor and covers the whole structure as if it were made from a
light and soft fabric. The padding is extremely soft, made up of large, comfortable, rounded cushions, like bed pillows, which act as seats
and backrests. Simply, like a nest.

Contaminazioni di stile
C’est le courage qui compte. Il coraggio di Baxter che propone il racconto artistico di Draga Obradovic e Aurel K. Basedow,
divertiti a esplorare i confini della borghesia, a strapparne le regole, a mostrare un volto anticonformista.
Tutto ciò che passa nelle loro mani acquista una nuova identità. Ogni oggetto ha in sè il tratto del tempo fermato sotto la resina
che ricopre un piano in legno o negli strappi ricuciti di una vecchia poltrona. Ecco che il salotto dimenticato in soffitta,
recuperato e destrutturato a colpi di forbici e di pennello , rinasce portando il fascino del vissuto: tende militari riciclate
e sovratinte, lino sfrangiato nelle cuciture, serigrafie stampate direttamente sulla pelle, trasformano l’Alfred, divano icona
di Baxter, nell’Alfred special edition Trench. Il lungo tavolo a coda che incrocia la civetteria di una specchiera e il rigore
di una scrivania è Typo, così il tavolo inglese di inizio Novecento, abbassato e decorato con ornamenti damascati, si trasforma
nel Diadema del salotto. Le antiche poltrone una volta spogliate diventano Deshabillé, mettendo a nudo il punto dell’imbottitura
in iuta e i nodi di spago che tirano i capitonné, svelano la raffinata tecnica artigiana di un tempo, raccontando i loro segreti
quasi fossero le conversazioni che quelle poltrone hanno ospitato nel passato. Come scriveva Jean Cocteau, il tatto nell’audacia
consiste nel sapere fino a che punto ci si può spingere. è ciò che Draga Obradovic e Aurel K. Basedow fanno con il loro stile.
HYBRIDS OF STYLE
C’est le courage qui compte. The courage of Baxter which is offering the narrative art of Draga Obradovic and Aurel K. Basedow,
having fun exploring the boundaries of the bourgeoisie and tearing up its rules, to show a non-conformist face. Everything that
comes into their hands acquires a new identity. Any object possesses a time stretch, kept under the resin which covers a wooden
top, or in the mended tears of an old armchairs. Thus the living room, long since shelved, is recovered and destructured with
blows from scissors and the brush, and is reborn, bringing the charm of experience: military tents recycled and dyed, linen
frayed at the seams, serigraphies printed directly onto the leather, those elements transform the model “Alfred”, historic sofa
and icon of Baxter, into the “Baxter trench”. The long grand-table, which mixes the coquetry of a mirror and the rigour of a
desk, is “Typo”, as well as the English table from the early twentieth century, lowered and decorated with damask ornaments,
transforms into the diadem of the living room. The ancient armchairs, once stripped, become “Deshabillé”, laying bare the
stitches of their jute padding and the knots of string which pull together their quilting; they reveal the refined craftsmanship
technique of years past, narrating its secrets as if they were the conversations that those armchairs witnessed in the past. As
Jean Cocteau wrote, tact in audacity is knowing how far you can go. This is what Draga Obradovic and Aurel K. Basedow do with
their style…this is their style.
