Finally, we include the artist cost. The lead artist costs can change the budget drastically. Can you tell us what happens once the shooting is done? SPB Charan: Once the shooting is done, we develop the negatives and then digitize it (called tele cine). This is sent to edit suite which is uploaded into Avid System (a software where we edit the film). A rough cut is produced by the director and editor using this software. Then we do the dubbing (where the artists do the voice-over). Sound is recorded in a separate tape and this is again brought into the Avid Software. The sound and picture is synced in the software to produce the final cut. Re-recording is done to get the effects like door closing, horn, environment (like hospital, railway station etc). This is again brought back to Avid and synced. Computer graphics and animation works in parallel to rerecording and sound effects. Finally, we send it to DTS or ATMOS for sound mixing. The edits made are matched with sound to make the final negatives to produce the positives which is sent to the theaters. Here is an interesting tit-bit; the theaters show the picture and the sound from different systems to get you the effect in theaters. How do sell your movies? SPB Charan: The value of the movie is entirely based on artist and director. The people who bid for the movies include distribution houses, individual distributors and some mediators. If the movie does not sell, then the producer has no option but to release the film by renting the theaters or by talking terms with exhibition halls. Depending on the artist and director, the satellite rights are sold during the movie making or post production. Does the story not have any value? It seems too lopsided to sell movies only based on artist or director? SPB Charan: Value of story comes out only when the movie is released. Nobody wants take the risk based on the story alone. Artists sell. Take the case of soodhu kavvum or naduvula konjam pakkatha kaanom. Both had a great story but unknown cast. The value of the movie was unlocked only after the release and not before. Same happened with Chennai 28. Tell us about your next film? SPB Charan: I can’t discuss script but we have identified one. Preproduction is going on with all new faces. It will be great to know when people can expect the roads to be good. Mrs. Gokula Indira: Plans are there to lay all main roads and byroads. We have already laid roads in some places. Other roads have some work to be done by Metro Water, TNEB, PWD, Central Agencies and other Pvt. Agencies. It will be a waste of tax payers money if we lay roads and other agencies dig again knowing fully well that they have some work pending. The rains also have added to the woes. We also have humanitarian and livelihood considerations of the poor which might stop the removal in some places which does not affect the citizens. Road digging is major problem by different companies example Telephones, power, Drainage etc. Any solution to this? Mrs. Gokula Indira: A propos al is being mooted to have a duct by the side of the road where we can have all the cables viz. Telephones, Electricity, Water pipes, Internet cables etc. with chamber at regular intervals for attending to problems. This has its drawbacks as it reduces the width of the road, it is under consideration. How much of money is allocated for Anna Nagar? Where are they utilized? Mrs. Gokula Indira: A total of Rs.9 crores (as per zonal head) is allocated for development of roads in Anna Nagar Constituency. Is there any PublicPrivate partnership especially with organizations such as Exnora, Rotary, Towers Club etc. in helping shape Anna Nagar? Mrs. Gokula Indira: Public – Pvt. Partnership has been encouraged with the scheme called self sufficient scheme with 1/3 participation by Exnora, Rotary club etc. balance 2/3 is borne by corporation. This goes a long way in shaping things for the future. Is there a problem in Govt. Schools? Mrs. Gokula Indira: The govt. and corporation schools have started to do very well. This can be seen by their results in 10th and 12th standard exams. The standards are in no way as low as it is made out to be. For admission to 12th in Pulla Avenue Girls Schools there was cut off marks for admission. S p o r t s – W h a t a re the facilities that are available in Anna Nagar? Mrs. Gokula Indira: We have a JJ Indoor Stadium for Basket Ball, Volleyball etc. We have a skating park. We are also building badminton, tennis courts in various blocks. AE blocks has a good tennis and badminton courts. For recreation for all, we have various parks which are being maintained and regular monitoring is being done by corporation. What is your vision for Anna Nagar ? Mrs. Gokula Indira: To make Anna Nagar a model constituency for the state to fulfill Ammas vision. Clean green roads. Clean drinking water. To fulfill Amma vision of having solar power for residents and industries alike (having ample power supply). To have parks and recreation centers in all wards.
