Tua Rita Info, August 2013 Vinous by Antonio Galloni: “In a Tuscan State of Mind” awards stellar scores to Tua Rita wines. Yet another success for Tua Rita, which has earned excellent scores from Antonio Galloni in Vinous. Galloni has struck out on his own with this interactive bulletin on Italy, Burgundy, Champagne and Napa Valley offering a new way to get involved and make great wines even better known. 2010 vintage TUA RITA Redigaffi Toscana 2010 – 96 points “I am struck by how light on its feet the 2010 Redigaffi is for such a big wine. Dark red cherries, tobacco, licorice, smoke and anise all flesh out as this layered wine opens up in the glass. Over time, the wine's intense salinity emerges, adding energy, drive and polish. Hints of dark cherry, plum and smoke reappear on the vibrant finish. Readers will find much to admire in the superb 2010. To be sure, the 2010 is less outwardly opulent than is often the case with Redigaffi, but there is no denying the wine's absolute beauty.” TUA RITA Syrah Toscana 2010 – 92 points “Mocha, espresso, plums, blackberries and savory herbs emerge from Tua Rita's 2010 Syrah. Even with all of its power and intensity, the 2010 never seems to fully come together in the glass, which has been my impression on all three occasions I have tasted it. Today, the 2010 is quite raw and shows less of the visceral thrill of the very best years. Perhaps those qualities will develop in bottle but historically this has been a very showy wine when young, so I have some reservations about that happening.” TUA RITA Giusto di Notri Toscana 2010 – 94 points “Dark raspberries, freshly cut flowers, violets, licorice mint and sweet spices literally jump from the glass in the 2010 Giusto di Notri. An articulate, beautifully delineated wine, the 2010 impresses for its nuance and balance. Even with all the richness, the flavors remain bright, focused and lively. This is a great showing from Tua Rita. Giusto di Notri is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc.” TUA RITA Perlato del Bosco Toscana 2010 – 94 points “Dark raspberries, freshly cut flowers, tobacco and sweet spices all meld together in a gracious, perfumed wine. Supple, open and gracious, the 2010 Perlato del Bosco is a striking Maremma red to drink now and over the next few years. The purity of the fruit alone is striking, while the soft contours are hugely appealing as well. Sweet, perfumed notes ring out on the floral finish.” 2011 Vintage TUA RITA Redigaffi Toscana 2011 – 95+ points “The estate's 2011 Redigaffi was just bottled, but it doesn't seem to be showing any reticence at all. Smoke, tar and incense all add a dimension of exoticism as this voluptuous, textured Merlot shows off its personality. Layers of fruit build to a creamy, resonant finish. There is a lot to look forward to here.” TUA RITA Syrah Toscana 2011 – 94+ points “The 2011 Syrah is striking in its beauty. Despite the warm, precocious vintage, the 2011 screams with varietal character as expressed in Maremma. A wine of pure volume and breadth, the 2011 is going to be a lot of fun to follow. As of this tasting, the 2011 has just been bottled, so it is quite likely the wine will show even better in another 6-‐12 months.” TUA RITA Giusto di Notri Toscana 2011 – 92+ points “The 2011 Giusto di Notri wraps around the palate with gorgeous depth. Round, creamy and deeply expressive, the 2011 offers gorgeous up-‐front richness and resonance. Dark cherry, plum and spice notes all flesh out on the inviting finish. Today, the tannins are a bit firm, but then again, the wine was only been in bottle for three days. Still, the Giusto di Notri lacks a bit of the polish of the other recently bottled 2011s here. It will be interesting to see if that is an attribute of the wine itself, or simply a reaction to bottling. Only time will tell for sure.” TUA RITA Perlato del Bosco Toscana 2011 – 93 points “The 2011 Perlato del Bosco is soft, open and accessible. This is a textured, resonant style of Sangiovese typical of the Tuscan coast in its breadth and volume. The warmth and resonance of the vintage comes through in spades. Dark red cherries, licorice flesh out on the dark, savory finish. This is a fabulous effort for the year.” 2012 Vintage TUA RITA Redigaffi Toscana 2012 – 94-‐97 points “Another dazzling 2012 from Tua Rita, the Redigaffi is a pure pleasure to taste. Bright, floral and delineated, the 2012 is exceptionally beautiful. The aromas and flavors are so pure and resonant. This is another wine with a bright future and tons of potential.” TUA RITA Syrah Toscana 2012 – 93-‐96 points “Tua Rita has always done a fabulous job with their Syrah, but the 2012 takes things to another level. It is the first vintage in which winemaker Luca D'Attoma used a small percentage of whole clusters, a common practice throughout the world, but one that is rarely seen in Tuscany. The 2012 Syrah is intense, with layers of expressive floral and red-‐toned notes that captivate the senses. Fine and silky on the palate, the 2012 boasts superb personality and pure grace. I can't wait to see how the wine develops over the coming years.” TUA RITA Giusto di Notri Toscana 2012 – 92-‐94 points “The 2012 Giusto di Notri is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine. Today, the purity and vibrancy of the fruit stand out most. The 2012 boasts superb intensity, no hard edges and superb balance. A finish laced with striking, perfumed aromatics rounds things out in style. The 2012 is shaping up to be magnificent.” TUA RITA Rosso dei Notri Toscana 2012 – 91 points “Tua Rita's 2012 Rosso di Notri is a standout. Dark red cherry and plum notes meld into licorice, tobacco and smoke in a wine of power and length. Readers looking for a drop-‐dead gorgeous, delicious Maremma wine that won't break the bank should check out the Rosso. In 2012, Rosso di Notri is 50% Sangiovese, 30% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah.”
TUA RITA Tierre Toscana 2012 – 89 points “The 2012 Tierre, a new, entry-‐level wine, is bursting with sweet red berries, freshly cut flowers, pomegranate and grilled herbs. This perfumed, racy Merlot/Alicante blend will drink nicely for at least the next few years. Today, the 2012 stands out for the intensity of its fruit and its overall balance.” TUA RITA Lodano Toscana 2012 – 88 points “The 2012 Lodano wraps around the palate with pears, white flowers and hints sweet spices. Lodano is a blend of Riesling and Gewurztraminer (both done in steel) and Chardonnay (done in oak). This is about as good as it gets for whites in Suvereto, a terroir where reds are decidedly more at home.” Focus – The Tua Rita Estate Tua Rita was established in 1984 by Rita Tua and Virgilio Bisti at Notri near Suvereto, in the province of Livorno. This is Alta Maremma, perhaps one of the best-‐suited wine zones in the world for the international grape varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, Riesling and Traminer – which are grown on the estate along with Sangiovese. Vineyard management and winemaking were immediately entrusted to Luca D’Attoma while Rita and Virgilio’s son-‐in-‐law Stefano Frascolla has always been active in the cellar and the office. The first vintage of Giusto di Notri was bottled in 1992. The wine, which takes its name from the saint to whom the church at Suvereto is dedicated and the estate’s own location, is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Since its very first vintage, Giusto di Notri has been one of the benchmark Bordeaux blends for the entire production zone. Tua Rita acquired star status with the release to market of a small quantity of barrique-‐aged Merlot from the 1994 harvest under the name of Redigaffi. The 2000 vintage was the first Italian wine to be awarded a spectacular 100/100 score by Robert Parker. Tua Rita told the story of a totally unique terroir as Rita and Virgilio carried forward their wine adventure with unswerving rigour. Sadly, Virgilio passed away in 2010 but the tireless, ever-‐enterprising Rita continues her work, flanked by Stefano and by her daughter Simena. Today, Tua Rita has thirty-‐five hectares under vine at an average elevation of 100 metres above sea level. The vines are planted on silt and clay soil at a density of 8-‐9,000 vines per hectare. Fruit from the scrupulously managed vineyards is cosseted by non-‐intrusive cellar protocols, restrained cask conditioning and rigorous attention for the environment. Tua Rita’s wine list includes: Redigaffi (Merlot), Syrah, Giusto di Notri (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc), Perlato del Bosco (Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon), Lodano (Traminer, Riesling and Chardonnay) and our “second vin” Rosso di Notri, obtained from a blend of all the red-‐berried varieties grown on the estate. Tua Rita, established in fifty international markets, is one of Italy’s outstanding craft winemakers. Roberta Fanucci, Marketing +39 0565 829237 [email protected] www.tuarita.it
