Holy Name Society
Celebrates 100 Years
Not many organizations can claim the distinction
of having been in existence for 100 years. But on a
recent Sunday, the Holy Name Society of Holy Rosary Church celebrated its centennial with a Mass and
a breakfast reception.
The Mass was celebrated by Archbishop Timothy
P. Broglio, the fourth Archbishop of the Military Services, and Fr. Ezio Marchetto. Archbishop Broglio
also gave the keynote speech at the breakfast that followed.
Holy Name Society member Tony Falcone served
as master of ceremonies at the breakfast reception. He
gave a brief history of the founding of the Society at

Carissimi fratelli e sorelle in Cristo,
Buon Natale!
La nascita di Gesù segna il punto di svolta della
storia, momento in cui emozioni e realtà diverse si
incontrano: esiste un collegamento con il passato,
vediamo infatti Giuseppe che si reca a Beltlemme,
la città natale del re Davide, e un nuovo inizio, la
nascita del Messia; c'è paura nei pastori che vedono
un'apparizione di Angeli e gioia all'annuncio della
nascita del Messia; vi è perplessità all'arrivo dei Magi
a Gerusalemme, nuove persone con straordinarie notizie, e la necessità di fare una pausa e riflettere imitando Maria che continua "riflettendo su tutte queste
cose nel suo cuore."
Tutte queste emozioni: passato e presente, trepidazione e gioia, perplessità e necessità di riflettere
si possono trovare oggi, in questo Natale 2015, nella
nostra comunità.
Siamo collegati con il nostro passato come Giuseppe, che era della casa di Davide, e che si reca
alla città natale del suo antenato. E noi siamo fortunati

Italian Armed Forces Day: Remembering Nov. 4, 1918
Festa dei Caduti Mass Held at Holy Rosary Church
President of the Holy Name Society, Robert Sales, offers a
centennial toast.
Italian Armed Forces Day was commemorated in
Washington, D.C. with a Mass at Holy Rosary Church
on Sunday, November 1, and a reception at the Italian
Embassy on November 4.
Armed Forces Day is celebrated in Italy every
November 4, to remember the Italian victory in World
War I. On that date in 1918, with the entry of the
Italian victorious troops into Trento and Trieste and
after almost three and one-half years of fighting, the
“Great War” ended. Austrian-Hungarian forces agreed
to a cease fire, thus ending the war on the Italian front.
