PALM SUNDAY – APRIL 13th, 2014 HOLY WEEK COMMON SENSE SENSO COMUNE PER LA SETTIMANA SANTA During Holy Week a lot of Visitors come – maybe even people who have been away for a while. Smile at them and welcome them – would you come back if someone growled at you? In questi giorni della settimana santa, arriveranno persone che sono in visita a San Francesco. Accoglieteli con gioia – se non facciamo ambasciatori di Cristo, di chi saremo ambasciatori? You don’t own the pew – move in and happily make room. Non siete padroni delle panche – date spazio alle altre persone e siate gioiosi. We ask you to obey the parking laws. Some consideration will be given but if you park in front of a fire hydrant, a driveway, a corner ramp, or if a fire truck can’t pass down a street, there is very little anyone can do to forgive your ticket Use public transit as much as possible, especially on Good Friday. If your car gets towed during the Good Friday Procession, please call 416 808 6600 to ask the Toronto Police about where your car has been “relocated”. Have your license number handy. Se rimorchiano la tua vettura il venerdì santo, chiamate 416 808 6600 per chiedere alla polizia dove hanno spostato la tua macchina. Ti chiederanno il numero della targa. WHY ARE THE STATUES VEILED? It is customary to veil devotional images and crosses from the 5th Sunday of Lent until the Easter Vigil. This ancient custom has much to commend in it terms of religious psychology, because it helps us to concentrate on the great essentials of Christ's work of Redemption. Devotional images will remain veiled until the Easter Vigil. The Cross will be solemnly unveiled during the liturgy of Good Friday. _______________________ HOLY WEEK SCHEDULE HOLY WEEK – LA SETTIMANA SANTA MONDAY – WEDNESDAY APRIL 14 TO APRIL 16 Mon & Tues MASS – 8:00 AM Italian Wednesday MASS – 8:00 AM English HOLY THURSDAY – GIOVEDÌ SANTO THURSDAY APRIL 17TH – GIOVEDÌ 17 APRILE NO MORNING MASS MASS – 8:00 PM English & Italian Presided over by HE Bishop William McGrattan Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament: The Altar of Repose will remain open until midnight Thursday, and opens again at 7 am Good Friday Morning for adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament. HOLY WEEK Holy Week is the week which precedes the great feast of the Resurrection on Easter Sunday – it includes the last days of Lent and the beginning of the Easter Triduum. During Holy Week, the Church celebrates the mysteries of salvation accomplished by Christ in the last days of his life on earth, beginning with his messianic entrance into Jerusalem. p.182 CCCB ORDO 2013-2014 NEEDS OF THE HOLY LAND – GOOD FRIDAY This year, the Papal Collection for the Holy Places will be held on Good Friday, April 18, 2014. We realize as a Church that Jesus is the bread of life: “Whoever eats this bread will live forever.” (John 6.51) By sharing in the upkeep of the Holy Land and the mission of the Custody, we give witness to commit our life to help others; the lives of our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land. It is the assurance of a true friendship for LIFE. By giving to the Holy Land, we strengthen our bond of friendship with our fellow Christians who live in the land of Jesus. We support the Christians who live there, eat there and who are struggling and live in hope. This word of the Gospel is an affirmation of the One who loved to the end. Our donation is a step forward towards the awareness of others and an invitation to change our relationship with the Living.
