Andrea Mangiatordi Address via San Michele, 15 23876, Monticello Brianza Lecco (Italy) contacts email: [email protected] mobile: +39 339 8264563 Education September 2007 - January 2011 Ph.D. “Quality of Life in the Information Society” Thesis title: New Perspectives for Inclusion: Special Education meets One to One Computing http://boa.unimib.it/handle/10281/20132 University of Milano Bicocca, Italy October 2004 - March 2007 Master’s Degree in Communication and Multimedia Publishing Thesis title: Designing a Software Communication Aid for a Person with Mobility Impairment University of Bergamo, Italy October 2001 - November 2004 Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Sciences Thesis title: A Computational Approach to Schenkerian Analysis of Music, University of Bergamo, Italy Professional development June - September 2013 Professional Development course “UDL101: An Introduction to Universal Design for Learning” Center for Applied Special Technology (CAST), Wakefield, MA Research topics My research interests are mainly focused on ICT as a means for fostering social inclusion and social interaction. Specifically, my research so far has focused on: • Universal Design in education and the role of technology in creating inclusive (learning) environments: I am currently studying different instructional content creation models for the definition of practical paradigms for the implementation of technology at school in a way that is sensible to differences and to variability of learning; • web accessibility and the inclusive potential of the Web: I am interested in how the World Wide Web can be a means to foster social inclusion; with this perspective in mind, in 2007 I started the development of an original web framework for enhancing the accessibility of websites, called “Farfalla project” (http://farfalla-project.org); • ICT4D and the use of technology at school in developing countries; during my collaboration with the One Laptop Per Child project in Uruguay (http://one.laptop.org), I studied the inclusion of children with mobility impairment in mainstream classes where every child received a computer; my methodological approach was a mix of qualitative and quantitative techniques, following the Action Research paradigm; • the use of social media, and the meanings related to it: since 2008 I have been participating in the activity of the Bicocca Observatory on New Media (http://numediabios.eu), studying the media diet of university students under both qualitative and quantitative perspectives; this also involved research about the use of new media in Education, TEL, eLearning and the development of Personal Learning Environments.
