Starting from the Castagneto Carducci - Donoratico railway station, go right on
the Old Aurelia S.P. 39 (direction south). After 400 metres turn left into Via delle Pievi
and go as far as the traffic lights, then turn right onto the Via Matteotti cycle lane,
following it to the intersection with Via del Mercato, where you turn left.
Turn right at the next intersection, and immediately after, turn left into Via Greppo
all'Ulivo as far as the first four-way intersection. Go left along Strada Comunale
dei Ceralti, following it for almost 500 metres to the intersection, where you turn
right and then immediately left, riding for 1.5 km along the road

MEDITERRANEA that joins Via Accattapane near a lovely farmhouse on the left.
Follow Via Accattapane, which begins to climb towards the
ITALIA
town of Castagneto Carducci.
After 400 metres, you join the S.P. 329, which climbs through a number of bends
and after 2 km reaches the top of the hill near a fountain. From here you continue
on the main road as far as the Castagneto Carducci cemetery, where you leave
the S.P 329 and turn left into Via di Segalari, which has marked rises and falls,
but is mainly downhill, and leads to L’Orizzonte restaurant, and shortly after
to an intersection, where you carry straight on along the dirt road.
Follow the main track, which is mainly downhill, and passes the scenic vineyards
of Grattamacco and then the Guado al Melo estate. From here, you go back
onto Via di Lamentano, past farmhouses and ancient oak trees, and follow it to
the end. At the T-junction, go right downhill, cross Via Bolgherese and continue
straight along the country lane which slopes gently down.
Go straight ahead at the first intersection, then turn left at the second onto the
dirt road. After 500 metres go right for 950 metres as far as the intersection,
where you turn left. At this point you reach Donoratico and return to the
Castagneto Carducci - Donoratico railway station passing through Casone Ugolino,
Via del Fosso and Via della Libertà.
POSSIBLE DETOUR: The route can be slightly shortened by avoiding the stretch
of dirt road. Instead of going straight ahead on the dirt road at the intersection
located after the L'Orizzonte restaurant (on Via di Segalari), keep left and go
down the steep incline until the road joins Via di Lamentano, where you turn left
and rejoin the main route.
THIS ITINERARY REqUIRES SOmE EXPERIENCE IN UPHILL RIDING, AND INCLUDES A STRETCH
OF DIRT ROAD THAT CAN BE RIDDEN USING ROADSTERS. THE ROUTE IS mARKED WITH
NUmBERED TRAIL mARKERS (NO.2).

Livorno Province has put together an extensive
programme of initiatives to endorse and promote the
area’s tourism services devoted to cycling holidays.
Hospitality for tourism cyclists represents one of the
most important aspects of this project, and involves
the creation of a chain of specialized accommodation
(hotels, agritourism farms, camp sites, holiday
apartment hotels and holiday villages) adhering to
a Policy Document that guarantees possession
of specific requisites.

Die Provinz Livorno hat ein breites Programm an
Initiativen gestartet, um das touristische Angebot des
Territoriums zum Fahrradtourismus zu fördern und zu
verbessern. Einen der wichtigsten Aspekte dieses
Projekts stellt dabei die Unterkunft für die Radfahrer
dar; dazu wurde eine Reihe spezialisierter
Empfangseinrichtungen geschaffen (Hotels,
agrotouristische Betriebe, Campingplätze,
Ferienwohnungen, Feriendörfer), die Vorgaben
einhalten und besondere Voraussetzungen erfüllen.

Man startet am Bahnhof Castagneto Carducci - Donoratico und biegt nach rechts (in Südrichtung)
in die Provinzstraße S.P. 39 „Vecchia Aurelia“ ein. Nach 400 Metern links in die Via delle Pievi abbiegen
und bis zur Ampel fahren; dort nach rechts biegen und auf dem Radweg der Via Matteotti bis zur
Kreuzung mit der Via del Mercato fahren.
Dort links abbiegen. An der nächsten Kreuzung nach rechts und dann sofort links in die Via Greppo
all'Ulivo biegen; bis zur ersten Kreuzung weiterfahren: hier links die Strada Comunale dei Ceralti wählen
und dieser fast 500 Meter bis zu einer Kreuzung folgen.
Erst rechts und dann sofort links abbiegen, und 1,5 km auf der kleinen Straße weiterfahren, die dann bei
einem schönen Bauernhaus links in die Via Accattapane einmündet. Auf der Via Accattapane beginnt
nun ein Anstieg zum Städtchen Castagneto Carducci.
Nach 400 Metern mündet sie in die Provinzstraße S.P. 329 ein, auf der man in verschiedenen Kurven
Höhe gewinnt und nach 2 km in der Nähe eines Brunnens die Anhöhe erreicht. Jetzt auf der Hauptstraße
bis zum Friedhof von Castagneto Carducci weiterfahren, wo man die S.P 329 verlässt und links in die
Via di Segalari einbiegt.
Auf dieser recht hügeligen Straße, die jedoch überwiegend bergab führt, erreicht man nach 2 km das
Restaurant L'Orizzonte und kurz darauf eine Kreuzung, an der man geradeaus auf der Schotterstraße
weiterfährt. Dem Hauptverlauf folgen, der mit vorwiegendem Gefälle zwischen den malerisch gelegenen
Weinbergen von Grattamacco und dann am Weingut Guado al Melo entlangführt.
Nun kehrt man zwischen Landgütern und jahrhunderte alten Eichen auf die Via di Lamentano zurück,
die man bis zum Ende durchfährt. An der Einmündung rechts in die abfallende Straße abbiegen,
die Via Bolgherese im rechten Winkel überqueren, und auf der Landstraße mit ganz leichtem Gefälle
geradeaus weiterfahren: an der ersten Kreuzung geradeaus fahren, an der zweiten hingegen nach links
abbiegen und nach 500 Metern nach rechts.
Nach weiteren 950 Metern kommt man an eine Kreuzung, an der man nach links abbiegt: nun erreicht
man die Wohnhäuser von Donoratico und kehrt über Casone Ugolino, die Via del Fosso und die Via della
Libertà zum Bahnhof von Castagneto Carducci-Donoratico zurück.
MÖGLICHE STRECKENVARIANTE: Die Strecke kann leicht verkürzt werden, wenn man auf den Abschnitt
auf der Schotterstraße verzichtet. An der Kreuzung hinter dem Restaurant L'Orizzonte (an der Via di
Segalari) biegt man, statt geradeaus auf der Schotterstraße weiterzufahren, nach links ab, und erreicht
in einer steilen Abfahrt die Einmündung in die Via di Lamentano. Hier links abbiegen und auf der
Hauptstrecke weiterfahren
