LAKE MAGGIORE
Lake Maggiore is one of the
largest Italian lakes with an
area of 220 square kilometers;
20% of the surface is located
in Switzerland. It has a
perimeter of about 200 km, a
length of 65 km and an
average width of about 4 km.
A great deal has been said and
written about Lake Maggiore.
Stendhal himself, struck by that
sort of lyrical rhapsody that
occurs only in the sight of
miracles of nature, said that
here he had discovered the
place that he would have
preferred never to have left.
