Definizione
Le espressioni di quantità quantificano i sostantivi e variano
a seconda della quantità che esprimono.
Per usarli occorre capire se il sostantivo è numerabile o non
numerabile.
Espressioni per grandi quantità: A lot of/lots of, much/many
Espressioni per piccole quantità: a little/few, little/few,
Very little/few

A lot of/lots of, much/many
A lot of o lots of si usa con sostantivi numerabili in
frasi affermative:
John has a lot of toys.
Much si usa con sostantivi non numerabili in frasi
negative e interrogative:
John hasn’t got much money.
Has John got much money?
Many si usa con sostantivi numerabili in frasi negative
e interrogative:
John hasn’t got many toys.
Has John got many toys?
Quando si usano -2
A volte si usano much e many nelle frasi
affermative, ma la frase risulta un po’ più
formale:
Many books have been

Per esprimere l’idea di troppo si usa too sia
con much sia con many sia davanti ad aggettivi:
There are too many

Per esprimere che c’è una quantità più che
sufficiente si usa plenty of prima del sostantivo
nelle frasi affermative:

enough davanti ai sostantivi e prima degli
aggettivi:
