Questionnaire
• Type and quantity of matter collected: thousands of
tons of paper, glass, wood , plastic, special refuse
(non household garbage), household garbage.
• Means of collection: lorries.
• Number of workers and working time: about 10 people
working around 8 hours.
• Range of collection area: paper, plastic and glass from
about 50 counties, wood from the all over the Island.
• Working cycle: it’s not a full cycle as they don’t recycle,
but simply collect and pack up great quantities of
waste according to its type.
Collection procedure
• A lorry carrying the waste is weighed as soon as it
arrives at the platform
• A bulldozer puts the waste on a conveyer belt connected
with a big packing press .
• The press compacts each kind of waste separately into
cubes.
• The cubes are stored and then carried to be recycled in
different special recycling centres.
• Such procedure is applied to paper, plastic and wood,
while glass is separated according to the colour before
being carried to a suitable recycling centre
