Dear IS Modena families,
Great week ahead of us with a busy and exciting schedule starting with some volleyball games taking
place this afternoon. Come and support our IS Modena teams from 15:30 to 17:00!
Our Early Years Kindergarten and Transition classes will be going on a trip to Atelier Raggio di Luce in
Reggio Emilia this Thursday. Also Thursday, Ms. Forti, will be leading the “Understanding Assessment in
MYP workshop” open to all parents from Grade 7 to 9.
Ms. Jacky Payne will be busy with an IB authorisation visit in an international school in Europe from
Monday to Wednesday and the PTA meeting, open to any interested parent, will taking place on
Tuesday at 13:00.
This week’s newsletter includes the announcement of our school’s IB Diploma Team and a preview of
our new science lab.

Una fantastica settimana ci attende con un calendario denso e divertente che inizia con una partita di
pallavolo questo pomeriggio. Venite a sostenere la squadra IS Modena dalle 15:30 alle 17:00!
Le nostre classi si Kindergarten e Transition andranno in gita all’Atelier Raggio di Luce a Reggio Emilia
questo giovedì. Sempre giovedì Ms Forti terrà un workshop ‘Capire la valutazione MYP’ aperto a tutti i
genitori da Grade 7 a 9.

l’incontro del PTA, aperto a tutti i genitori interessati, si terrà martedì alle 13:00.

Monday, March 9th at 15:30 the ISM volleyball teams will have the opportunity to officially
challenge the local Montale teams. Family members are encouraged to come watch the games.
Volleyball players will need to be in the gym, warming up at 15:10 and games will continue until
17:00.

ENROLMENTS 2015/2016 – DEADLINE 20/03/2015
We kindly remind you that to confirm your child(ren)’s enrolment for the
school year 2015/2016, you need to fill in the personal data form and
return it to the school office at your earliest convenience in order for the
schoo office to prepare your contract. If you haven’t received it, please
ask the school office.
The deadline for enrolments is March 20th 2015. If you don’t sign the
enrolment contract and arrange for the deposit payment by that date,
the late renewal fee applies and a place for your child(ren) might not be
granted.
If you need a fee breakdown, please send a request via email to the
school office.

Vi ricordiamo che per confermare l’iscrizione di vostro figlio/i per l’anno
scolastico 2015/2016, è necessario compilare il modulo dei dati anagrafici
e restituirlo quanto prima in segreteria in modo che la stessa possa
preparare il vostro contratto. Se non lo avete ricevuto, potete richiederne
una copia in segreteria.
La scadenza per le iscrizioni è fissata al 20 marzo 2015. Se provvedete
alla firma del contratto e al pagamento dell’acconto entro tale data, vi
verrà applicata la mora di iscrizione tardiva e il posto per vostro figlio
potrebbe non essere garantito.
Se avete bisogno di un prospetto personalizzato, vi preghiamo di
richiederlo via email in segreteria.

REMINDERS
Attendance
Learning at the International School of Modena is very interactive, requiring the participation and
interaction of the students with each other and with the teachers. This is adversely affected when a
child is absent – not only for that child in particular but for the dynamics of the whole class.
Of course some absences, such as illness, are unavoidable, but others lie within the family’s priorities.
Please see Extended Absences below.
The Absence forms, in the Home/School Diary, must be completed for a single day of absence or to
cover a period of absence. The Absence forms must be filled out and one part returned to the
school office.
Please remember that if your child has been absent for 6 days or more in a row, a doctor’s note
stating that the child is well enough to attend school must be produced before the child is allowed
to return to school. Weekends add to the total number of days only if they are in the middle of the
sickness time (i.e. a child is sick from Thursday until following Wednesday)
Absences/Tardies
Punctuality is important both as a matter of courtesy and to prevent disruption of classes caused by
the arrival of latecomers. If a student is late she/he misses the important beginning of the school day.
Chronic tardiness prohibits learning for all students. Please show respect for your child’s learning
as well as the other students’ and be on time.
Please refer to the Whole School Behaviour Expectations Document.
If a child is absent or will be late, parents are asked to telephone (or mail) the school before 8:30
and fill out the Late/Early dismissal Absence forms from the Home/School Diary. One part is to be
returned to the office.
Illness and Medication
Students should not come to school if they are ill.
Keeping a sick child at home is the best way to ensure a full and speedy recovery and will reduce the
risk of others becoming infected.
We are not able to administer any medication, prescription or non-prescription and students should
not bring any medication in to school.
Please inform your child’s teacher if you are giving your child any medication. If your child needs to
take medication you will need to inform the School Manager and school office. Students will be
supervised and have to administer medication themselves.
School activity starts at 8:30!
We kindly remind you that school days start at 8:30 sharp. Which means the school activity will begin
exactly at 8:30 and any late comers will be disrupting class.
Please try to make an effort and come in before 8:30 am, children can be dropped off from 8:10
onwards.
Snacks/Drinks
Please note that students may bring healthy snacks or fruit to enjoy during their breaks. Sweets,
crisps and high sugar drinks (Coke, Sprite, Ice-Tea) are not allowed. No gum is permitted anywhere
in the building or on the school grounds.
Early Years students bring only fruit.

PROMEMORIA
Frequenza
L’apprendimento all’International School of Modena è molto interattivo e richiede la partecipazione e
l’interazione degli studenti con gli altri e con gli insegnanti. L’assenza del bambino ha un effetto negativo –
non solo per il bambino in sé ma anche per le dinamiche dell’intera classe.
Sicuramente alcune assenza, come la malattia, sono inevitabili ma altre dipendono dalle priorità famigliari.
Vi preghiamo di fare riferimento all’Assenze Prolungate di seguito.
Il modulo delle Assenze, nel Diario scolastico, deve essere compilato anche per un solo giorno di assenza
o per coprire un periodo di assenza. Il modulo delle Assenze deve essere compilato e una parte deve
essere consegnata in segreteria.
Vi ricordiamo che se vostro figlio è assente per più di 6 giorni di fila è necessario fornire un certificato
medico che dichiari la buona salute fisica dello studente prima che gli sia permesso di rientrare a scuola.
I giorni festivi contribuiscono al calcolo dei giorni malattia solo se cadono nel corso della malattia (per
esempio se un bambino è malato da giovedì fino al mercoledì successivo).
Assenze/Ritardi
La puntualità è importante sia per una questione di educazione sia per prevenire l’interruzione delle lezioni
causate dall’arrivo dei ritardatari. Se uno studente è in ritardo perde l’importante inizio della giornata. Il
ritardo cronico impedisce agli studenti di apprendere. Vi chiediamo di rispettare l’apprendimento di
vostro figlio e degli altri studenti e di essere puntuali.
Vi invitiamo a fare riferimento al documento sulle Aspettative di Comportamento di tutta la scuola.
Se un bambino è assente o è in ritardo, i genitori devono informare telefonicamente (o via email) la
segreteria prima delle 8:30 e compilare il modulo di ingresso posticipato/anticipato che si trova nel
libretto delle assenze nel Diario Scolastico. Una parte deve essere consegnata alla segreteria.
Malattie e Medicazioni
Gli studenti non dovrebbero venire a scuola se sono ammalati.
Tenere a casa un bambino malato è il metodo migliore per garantire una veloce e piena guarigione e
si ridurrà il rischio di diffusione dell’infezione.
Non siamo in grado di somministrare nessun medicinale, prescritto o meno, e gli studenti non
dovrebbero portare medicinali a scuola.
Siete pregati di informare l’insegnante di Vostro figlio se Vostro figlio sta assumendo medicinali. Se ne
deve assumere, dovete informare la School Manager e la segreteria. Gli studenti saranno
supervisionati e dovranno assumere il farmaco da soli.
L’attività accademica inizia alle 8:30!
Vi ricordiamo che le lezioni iniziano alle 8.30 in punto. Ciò significa che le attività didattiche della
giornata iniziano proprio alle 8:30 e qualsiasi ritardatario si ritroverà ad interrompere inevitabilmente
il lavoro della classe. Vi invitiamo a cercare di arrivare prima delle 8.30, vi ricordiamo che gli
studenti possono arrivare dalle 8:10 in avanti.
Merende/bevande
si prega di notare che gli studenti possono portare merende sane o frutta da gustare durante le
ricreazioni.
Caramelle, patatine e bevande gassate (Cola, Sprite e The Freddo) non sono consentiti.
Non è permesso consumare gomme da masticare all’interno e all’esterno della scuola.
Gli studenti delle Materne portano solo frutta.

Library Book Appeal
Dear parents, in order to enhance the books we are ordering for the Diploma Program we are looking for
donations of books in different languages, especially Italian, Spanish, French and German to support
Mother Tongue learners.
In particular we are looking for age appropriate books that focus on the following:
History (20th Century Europe, Civil Rights in USA and China)
Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology)
Mathematics
French Literature
Plus if anyone has any English Literature they are no longer reading.
Thank you for your help. Any donations are gratefully received and can be given to me in the library.

REMINDERS
PLEASE ENSURE ALL ITEMS ARE LABELLED WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME
Except for the very young children, we expect the students to keep track of their own
belongings. Please discuss this with them. If your child arrives home with clothing or
something else that belongs to another student, please return it to school the next day.
A lost property (Lost & Found Box) is located in the storage room near the Auditorium, feel
free to check it for missing items and please keep it tidy.

Ad eccezione dei bambini molto piccoli, ci aspettiamo che gli studenti tengano controllati i loro
effetti personali. Discutetene con Vostro figlio. Se Vostro figlio arriva a casa con abbigliamento
o altri oggetti che appartengono ad altri studenti, siete pregati di restituirli a scuola il giorno
seguente.
Gli oggetti smarriti (Scatola degli Oggetti Smarriti) si trovano nel ripostiglio vicino
all’Auditorium, controllate liberamente e mantenetelo in ordine.
PARKING AREA
All parents must use the public parking area outside the school gate at all times.
Please remember to lock your cars and please make sure you don’t leave any personal
belongings in the car.
Internal parking area is reserved for staff only and the bus service.
