Eligibility The International Singing Competition for the main roles of La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini is open to all singers regardless of nationalities. Applicants are required to know the entire opera in Italian by heart. They have to sing one of following roles by heart: SOPRANOS: Mimì - Musetta TENOR: Rodolfo BARITONE : Marcello BASS - BARITONE: Schaunard BASS: Colline 2. Age The age limit for the roles of Mimì, Rodolfo and Colline is 35 years (born after 1973, December 31st). For the other roles the age limit is 32 years (born after 1976, December 31st). 3. Registration And Obligation The registration form must be received with the following material: Application form A DVD containing the candidate’s recording of an aria or scene from “La Bohème” and two arias of the candidate’s choice (one by Puccini) Indication of the role that the candidate will present in the selection Photocopy of identification document Photocopy of valid passport for the year 2009/2010 (not mandatory for residents in Italy) Documents (or certified copies) of qualification The candidate’s address, phone/fax number and e-mail Curriculum vitae and one photo. All candidates are asked to request from Institution chosen where they will send the necessary material all the information concerning deadlines for the selection applications, since they are different from one Institution to another. The selection juries from each of the above institutions reserve the right to make a preliminary choice on the materials received. The Competition Office will notify the selected candidates. By sending the application form, all participants understand that, in the event of winning any role of the competition, they are bound by contract to participate in the rehearsals and performances of the opera in the producer theatres, according to the terms and conditions of the international agreement. The material received by the Competition Office will not be returned. R. of China) Each institution will proceed to make a selection of the candidates and will send a DVD and CV of the chosen candidates to the selection jury of the International Institute for Opera and Poetry by 12 September 2009. Admission to the final selection will be notified by 10 October 2009. Final The chosen candidates will take part in the final selection which will take place in Verona on 11, 12, 13 November 2009. The candidates are required to know the entire opera in Italian by heart; either alone or in groups, they will perform the pieces selected by the Jury.The International Institute for Opera and Poetry will refund the travel expenses only to the winners of the competition who will take part in the two chosen companies. 5. Prizes The two chosen companies of the winners of the competition will have to perform the opera five times with the orchestra and chorus at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona within the opera programme of the Fondazione Arena on January 2010, after sufficient rehearsal. The winner will receive a fee of 1,000 euros (gross) for each performance. Board and lodging are at the artist’s expense. A fee of 1,500 euros (gross) will be given to the winners who will not take part in the performances. The Fondazione Arena reserves the right to choose the interpreters of the productions from among the finalists of the Competition. The Accademia Filarmonica will award a prize of euro 2,000 for the role of Mimi’ that will be awarded by the International Jury. The City of Verona will award a prize of euro 1,500 for the role of Rodolfo, that will be awarded by the international jury. The organizing Committee reserves the right to record, subject to prior agreement by the artists to waive any economical claim. Acceptance of the above mentioned condition will be a prerequisite to participation in the final stage of the competition. Each candidate selected for the final will have to subscribe a discharging form. Its subscription is mandatory in order to participate to the final. 6. International Jury The International Jury will be chaired by M° Bruno Bartoletti and composed by a panel of representatives of the Institutions promoting the Competition. 7. Rights and contention The Judging Committee reserves the rights to withhold the award for one or more roles in the competition. The Organizing Committee retains the right to make any alterations it considers necessary. In case of contention it will be evaluated according to UNESCO procedures.
