• The Organising Committee coordinates the
involvement of the national and local Italian
Institutions, assisting with and monitoring all of the
organizational aspects of the event. The Organising
Committee is composed of the Piedmont Region,
Province of Torino, City of Torino, ARPA Piedmont
and the Institute for the Environment and Education
Scholé Futuro Onlus.
• Le Comité d’Organisation coordonne la participation
des institutions italiennes, nationales et locales, il facilite
et supervise l’organisation de l’événement sous tous
ses aspects. Le Comité d’Organisation est composé de

3rd World Environmental Education Congress
Welcome
The 3rd World
Environmental Education
Congress will be held
in Italy, in Torino, falls
significantly within the
UN Decade of Education
for Sustainable Development (20052014), and marks another step forward
in the programme that began in 2003
in Portugal, with the 1st WEEC held at
Espinho and continued in 2004 in Rio de
Janeiro. Torino will conclude the phase
of consolidation and open the series of
biennial Congresses.
The great number of proposals and the
pre-registrations that have arrived from
all corners of the world are a positive
signal: proof that the idea of a regular
international meeting has been well
received, and a sign that there is a
need to meet and to discuss, reinforcing
friendships and cooperation, it is a good
omen for the future of environmental
education and sustainability, education
that is increasingly needed by humanity
and the planet.
Torino will welcome a wide range of
cultures, experiences and points of
view. The major institutions and bodies
gathered here(from the United Nations
Agencies to the Universities, public
administrations, international networks
and organisations, associations,
schools, parks, environmental education
centres, mass media, companies,
unions, etc.) represents the fruitfulness
of the conference and perhaps it main
innovation.
Our thanks go to all those who have
made this event possible and who
have supported and encouraged it
(you will find a list on the back cover
of this programme) and to all those
who will be present in Torino, to whom
we extend a warm welcome. We will
remain in constant contact with all
the others through our newsletter and
through all the activities that, between
one Congress and another, will try to
encourage communication and work online, ensuring the continuity of the debate
and activities relating to environmental
education.

Benvenuti
Le 3ème Congrès Mondial sur l’Education
à l’Environnement qui se tient en Italie,
à Turin, et qui coïncide, fait significatif,
avec l’année d’ouverture de la Décennie
Mondiale de l’Education au Développement
Durable (2005-2014), marque un autre
pas en avant dans le parcours ayant
commencé en 2003 au Portugal, avec le
1er WEEC d’Espinho et qui s’est poursuivi
en 2004 à Rio de Janeiro. Il constitue la
phase de consolidation et ouvre la série
des prochains Congrès biennaux.
Le grand nombre de propositions et de préinscriptions parvenues des quatre coins du
monde représente un signe positif : c’est la
preuve que l’idée de donner une cadence
régulière aux rendez-vous internationaux a
été une bonne intuition, c’est le symptôme
d’un besoin de se rencontrer et de se
confronter, pour consolider des amitiés
et renforcer des collaborations, c’est une
promesse de bon augure pour l’avenir
de l’éducation à l’environnement et à la
durabilité, une éducation dont l’humanité et
la planète ont plus que jamais besoin.
Turin représente le lieu de rencontre d’un
large éventail de cultures, d’expériences,
de points de vue. La grande variété
d’institutions et d’organismes qui s’y
réunissent (Agences des Nations Unies,
Universités, administrations publiques,
réseaux et organisations internationales,
associations, écoles, parcs, centres
d’éducation à l’environnement, médias,
entreprises, syndicats, etc.) constitue
la richesse du Congrès et peut-être sa
principale nouveauté.
Nous remercions vivement tous ceux qui
ont permis la réalisation de cet événement,
ceux qui l’ont soutenu et encouragé
(la liste est reportée en dernière page
de couverture de ce programme) et
ceux qui seront présents à Turin, à qui
nous souhaitons la bienvenue. Nous
resterons constamment en contact avec
eux, à travers la newsletter et toutes
les activités qui essaieront de favoriser,
entre un congrès mondial et l’autre, la
communication et le travail par réseau,
en vue d’assurer un suivi dans les débats
et les initiatives sur les thèmes-clés de
l’éducation à l’environnement.

Il 3° Congresso Mondiale di educazione
ambientale che si tiene in Italia, a Torino,
e che si colloca significativamente
nell’anno inaugurale del Decennio
Mondiale dell’Educazione per lo Sviluppo
Sostenibile (2005-2014), segna un altro
passo avanti nel percorso iniziato nel
2003 in Portogallo, con il 1° WEEC
tenutosi a Espinho e continuato nel 2004
a Rio de Janeiro. È la conclusione della
fase di consolidamento e apre la serie dei
prossimi Congressi biennali.

bisogno.
A Torino si ritrovano un ampio arco di
culture, di esperienze, di punti di vista. La
grande varietà di istituzioni e organismi
qui riuniti (dalle Agenzie delle Nazioni
Unite a Università, amministrazioni
pubbliche, reti e organizzazioni
internazionali, associazioni, scuole,
parchi, centri di educazione ambientale,
mass media, imprese e sindacati, etc.)
rappresenta la ricchezza del Congresso e
forse la sua principale novità.
Un vivo ringraziamento va a quanti
hanno consentito la realizzazione di
questo evento e lo hanno sostenuto
e incoraggiato (ne troverete l’elenco
sull’ultima di copertina di questo
programma) e a quanti saranno
presenti a Torino, cui diamo con calore il
benvenuto. Con tutti resteremo in contatto
costantemente, con la newsletter e con
tutte le attività che tra un congresso
mondiale e l’altro cercheranno di favorire

Thanks to a special program of measures
for its sustainability, a lot of attention has
also be paid to reducing the ecological
footprint of the Congress. A special study
on CO2 emissions was carried out by
Piedmont’s ARPA (Regional Environmental
Protection Agency) that studied emissions
in connection with traveling, lodgings,
acquiring goods and services with a
low environmental impact to offer the
participants. To this end, we have decided
to use bags made of biological cotton
that are manufactured by a company that
guarantees respect for ethical behavior in
using workers. We will also make use of
recycled and ecologically certified paper,
and the buffets will be prepared with local,
seasonal products.
A part of the registration fees for the
3rd WEEC has be seated aside to pay
compensation for the inevitable emissions
that are caused.
Une grande attention a été réservée à réduire
le plus possible l’empreinte écologique du
Congrès, et ce grâce à un programme spécial
de mesures visant à sa durabilité.
Une étude spécifique sur les émissions de
CO2 a été réalisée par l’ARPA (l’agence
régionale de protection de l’environnement)
du Piémont qui a étudié les émissions de
CO2 liées aux transports, aux hébergements
et pour l’achat de services et de biens à
impact réduit sur l’environnement pour les
participants. A cet effet, le choix s’est orienté
sur l’utilisation de sachets de coton biologique,
fabriqués par une entreprise qui garantit le
respect de comportements éthiques vis-à-vis
des travailleurs, de papier recyclé et certifié
écologique, de produits locaux et de saison
pour la préparation des buffets.
Une partie des cotisations au 3rd WEEC a
été destinée à des actions de compensation
des émissions polluantes qui seront
inévitablement provoquées.

il più possibile l’impronta ecologica del
Congresso, grazie a un programma
speciale di misure volte alla sua
sostenibilità. Uno studio sulle emissioni di
CO2 è stato effettuato dall’ARPA (Agenzia
regionale Protezione Ambiente) del
Piemonte che ha analizzato le emissioni
legate ai viaggi, all’ospitalità, ai servizi e
ai beni a ridotto impatto ambientale offerti
ai congressisti. A questo fine si è scelto
di utilizzare borse di cotone biologico,
prodotte da un’azienda che garantisce il
rispetto di comportamenti etici nell’utilizzo
dei lavoratori, carta riciclata e certificata
ecologica, prodotti locali e di stagione per
la preparazione dei buffet.
Inoltre una parte delle quote di iscrizione
al 3rd WEEC è stata destinata ad azioni
di compensazione delle emissioni
inevitabilmente provocate.

education. But the first consciousness
to conserve and exploit is the traditional

The permanent forum “Forum permanente
del Terzo Settore” (110 institutes representing
more than fourteen million associates) and the
Social Secretary of the RAI (the Italian state
radio and television broadcasting company)
present an international seminar on the
topic “Television, communication and the
environment”, on October 4th 2005 during the
3rd World Environmental Education Congress
– Educational Paths towards Sustainability
The seminar will consider the relationship
between television and environmental
education through some examples of television
programmes presented by the authors and by
television presenters.
The seminar will be organised with the
cooperation of the Italian scientific news
programmes Leonardo and Ambiente Italia.
Le “Forum permanent du Tiers Secteur” (près
de 110 organismes à but non lucratif italiens
représentant plus de quatorze millions de
membres) et le Secrétariat social de la RAI
promeuvent une rencontre internationale
sur le thème “Télévision, communication et
environnement”, le 4 octobre 2005, dans le cadre
du 3rd World Environmental Education Congress
– Educational Paths towards Sustainability.
Le séminaire se fixe l’objectif de réfléchir
sur le rapport entre télévision et éducation
à l’environnement à travers des exemples
d’émissions télévisées illustrées par les auteurs
et les présentateurs eux-mêmes.
Les rédactions de deux émissions de télé
italiennes spécialisées, le journal télévisé
scientifique “Leonardo” et “Ambiente Italia”
collaborent à l’organisation du séminaire.

di associati) e il Segretariato sociale della
RAI promuovono un incontro internazionale
