Presidente della Giuria

Enzo Restagno ha studiato musica e filosofia a Torino e Vienna, Ha insegnato Storia della Musica al
Conservatorio “Giuseppe Verdi di Torino per 37 anni. E’ stato critico musicale per quotidiani e riviste quali
"Stampa sera", "La Repubblica", "Le Monde de la Musique", "Die Zeit", "L'Espresso". Ha prodotto
programmi radiofonici e televisivi per RAI, Radio France, Westdeutsche Rundfunk, BBC. Ha tenuto
conferenze e masterclass per istituzioni musicali ed università in Europa, USA ed Asia.
Da studioso ha prestato particolare attenzione alla musica moderna e contemporanea, per la quale è
considerato uno dei maggiori specialisti internazionali. Ha scritto libri su Luigi Nono, Luciano Berio, Hans
Werner Henze, Elliott Carter, Ligeti, Xenakis, Petrassi, Donatoni, Sofia Gubaidulina, Alfred Schnittke, Steve
Reich, Louis Andriessen, Peter Maxwell Davies, Arvo Paert, che sono stati tradotti in molte lingue. Come
riconoscimento per la sua competenza, le Edizioni Ricordi di Milano l’hanno voluto come consulente
artistico per le proprie edizioni di musica contemporanea. Oltre ad essere insegnante e studioso, Enzo
Restagno è anche organizzatore di eventi musicali. Durante gli ultimi 25 anni è stato consulente artistico e
direttore dell’Orchestra Sinfornica dell’Emilia Romagna "Arturo Toscanini", del festival pianistico
internazionale "Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli" di Bergamo e Brescia, dell’Orchestra RAI di Torino e, dal
1986, del festival "Torino Settembre Musica", che in 20 anni ha trasformato in uno dei più grandi festival
internazionali e che ha condotto, nel 2007 alla creazione di "MiTo Settembre Musica", di cui è attualmente
direttore artistico.
Enzo Restagno studied music and philosophy in Turin and Wien. He taught History of Music for 37 years at
the Conservatoire "Giuseppe Verdi" in Turin. He has been musical critic for newspapers and magazines,
such as "Stampa sera", "La Repubblica", "Le Monde de la Musique", "Die Zeit", "L'Espresso". He produced
radio and television programs for RAI, Radio France, Westdeutsche Rundfunk, BBC. He held lectures and
masterclasses for musical institutions and universities around Europe, USA and Asia.
As a scholar, he paid particular attention to modern and contemporary music, for which he is considered one
of the internationally most eminent specialists. He wrote books about Luigi Nono, Luciano Berio, Hans
Werner Henze, Elliott Carter, Ligeti, Xenakis, Petrassi, Donatoni, Sofia Gubaidulina, Alfred Schnittke, Steve
Reich, Louis Andriessen, Peter Maxwell Davies, Arvo Paert, which have been translated in many languages.
As aknowledgement of his competence, Milan Edizioni Ricordi wanted him as artistic consultant for its
contemporary music editions.
Beyond being a teacher and a scholar, Enzo Restagno is also an organizer of musical events. During the past
25 years he was artistic consultant and director of the Emilia Romagna Symphonic Orchestra "Arturo
Toscanini", of the Bergamo and Brescia international piano festival "Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli", of
Turin RAI Orchestra, and starting from 1986 of the festival "Torino Settembre Musica", which he has
transformed in 20 years in one of the biggest international reviews, which led in 2007 to the creation of
"MiTo Settembre Musica", of which he currently is artistic director.

Massimiliano Baggio ha studiato al Conservatorio "G. Verdi" di Milano dove si è diplomato col massimo
dei voti e la lode. Successivamente ha seguito corsi di perfezionamento a Città di Castello con Antonio
Ballista, a Fiesole con Dario de Rosa e Maureen Jones e con di Sergio Fiorentino. Dal 1975 suona in duo
pianistico con Cristina Frosini con la quale ha tenuto centinaia di concerti, sia in recital sia con orchestra,
registrazioni radiofoniche e televisive per la RAI e la WDR di Colonia; incide per la Sarx Records. Ha vinto
numerosi concorsi internazionali in duo con Cristina Frosini e come solista. Nel 1996 ha debuttato al Teatro
alla Scala di Milano dove è stato invitato nuovamente per un recital nel marzo 1999. Nel 1999 la rivista
“Amadeus” ha pubblicato un suo CD contenente musiche per pianoforte a quattro mani di Franz Schubert.
Tra il 2001 ed il 2005, sempre in duo con Cristina Frosini, ha eseguito, per la prima volta finora in Italia,
l’integrale delle composizioni per pianoforte a quattro mani di Schubert nell’ambito dei Concerti da Camera
dell’ Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano “Giuseppe Verdi”. Dal 2008 ha il piacere, oltre che l’onore, di suonare in
duo con Maureen Jones.
Docente presso il Conservatorio di Musica "G. Verdi" di Milano, dal 2006 è titolare del corso di Prassi
Esecutiva e Repertorio per duo pianistico ed è Professore Ospite, per questa specialità, alla Lithuanian
Academy of Music and Theatre di Vilnius, alla Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst di
Stoccarda, alla Icelandic Academy of the Arts di Reykjavik e alla Kansas University School of Music. Da
quest’anno terrà un Seminario annuale al Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana di Lugano. Dal 1988 è
consulente musicale della Società Umanitaria di Milano dove organizza stagioni concertistiche e un
Concorso Internazionale per l’attribuzione di borse di studio ad allievi degli Istituti Europei di Alta
Formazione Musicale. Nel 2000 è stato conduttore, per RadioTre Rai, della trasmissione MattinoTre.
Massimiliano Baggio studied at the “G. Verdi” Conservatory of Milan where he graduated with full marks
cum laude. He continued his advanced musical studies with Sergio Fiorentino, and attended master classes at
Città di Castello with Antonio Ballista and at Fiesole with Maureen Jones and Dario de Rosa. Since 1975, he
has played in piano duo with Cristina Frosini performing hundreds of concerts, including orchestral recitals,
radio and television recordings for RAI and WDR, and recordings for Sarx Records. He won several
international competitions in duo with Cristina Frosini and as a soloist. In 1996 they made their debut at the
Teatro alla Scala in Milan where they has been invited again for a recital in 1999. In 1999 the musical
magazine “Amadeus” has published a CD in which they play music of Franz Schubert for piano duo.
Between 2001 and 2005, always in duo with Cristina Frosini, he performed, for the first time in Italy so far,
the complete Schubert’s four hand piano works for the Concerti da Camera of the Orchestra Sinfonica
“Giuseppe Verdi” of Milan. Since 2008 he has the pleasure, and the honour, to play in duo with Maureen
Jones.
Massimiliano Baggio is professor at the Conservatory “G. Verdi” of Milan, and regularly holds
advanced master classes for piano duo. Recently he has been invited by the Lithuanian Academy of
Music and Theatre of Vilnius, by the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst of
Stuttgart, by the Iceland Academy of the Arts of Reykjavik and by the Kansas University School of

DORA BAKOPOULOS

Dora Bakopoulos è nata ad Atene. Si è diplomata con il massimo dei voti e la lode al Conservatorio di
Atene. Si è poi iscritta al Conservatorio di Ginevra dove ha studiato con Louis Hiltbrand, ottenendo il "
Premier Prix de Virtuosité avec distinction ". Ha inoltre studiato a Salisburgo con Friedrich Gulda e a Vienna
con Paul Badura Skoda. Ha inoltre vinto i concorsi internazionali di Monaco e Vercelli. Ha tenuto concerti in
tutto il mondo (Londra, Parigi, Mosca, San Pietroburgo, New York) e tournée nell’Europa Centrale. Ha
inciso diversi lavori di compositori Greci (fra i quali Manos Hadjidakis e Mikis Theodorakis) e stranieri.
Dora Bakopoulos attualmente vive e lavora in Grecia, dove insegna pianoforte al Conservatorio di Atene.
L’Accademia di Atene le ha conferito il premio Motsenigos per il suo servizio alla musica.
Dora Bakopoulos was born in Athens. She studied at the Athens Conservatory graduating with honors. She
then enrolled at the Geneva Conservatory and studied with Louis Hiltbrand, obtaining the "Premier Prix de
Virtuosité avec distinction". She also studied in Salzburg with Friedrich Gulda and Vienna with Paul Badura
Skoda. She has also been a prizewinner at international competitions in Munich and Vercelli. She has given
recitals worldwide, including London, Paris, Moscow, St. Petersburg, New York and she has toured in
central Europe. She has made a number of recordings of Greek composers (notably Manos Hadjidakis and
Mikis Theodorakis) and from the foreign repertoire. Dora Bakopoulos currently lives and works in Greece,
where she is a piano professor at the Athens Conservatory. The Athens Academy conferred on her the
Motsenigos Award for her service to music.

AMALIE MALLING

Amalie Malling è nata a Lubecca, in Germania, da genitori danesi. Ha studiato con Herman D. Koppel,
Hans Leygraf, Georg Vasarhélyi e Alfred Brendel.
Dal 1972, quando Amalie Malling vinse il primo premio del Nordic Music Competition, svolge intensa
attività concertistica sia come solista sia in formazione da camera in Danimarca e nel resto d’Europa, negli
Stati Uniti, in Canada, in Cina e in Giappone.
Ha vinto diversi premi fra i quali il Gade Scholarship, il Performer's Prize of the Music Critics' Circle, il
Tagea Brandt Travelling Scholarship.
Amalie Malling ha registrato numerosi CD, fra i quali 4 da solista con musiche di Mozart, Schumann,
composizioni danesi contemporanee, concerti per pianoforte di Schumann, Schönberg, Kuhlau, Grieg e Otto
Malling. Inoltre ha registrato diverse volte con il violoncellista Morten Zeuthen, il Kontra Quartet e in duo
pianistico con lo svedese Hans Pålsson.
Dal 1981 è professore associato della Royal Danish Academy of Music.
Amalie Malling was born in Lübeck, Germany, of Danish parents. Her teachers include Herman D. Koppel,
Hans Leygraf, Georg Vasarhélyi, and Alfred Brendel.
Since 1972, when Amalie Malling won First Prize in the Nordic Music Competition, she has engaged in
extensive concert activities as a soloist and chamber musician in Denmark as well as the rest of Europe, the
USA, Canada, China and Japan.
She has won many music prizes, induding the Gade Scholarship, the Performer's Prize of the Music Critics'
Circle, and the Tagea Brandt Travelling Scholarship.
Amalie Malling has recorded a large number of CDs, including 4 solo CDs with music by Mozart, Schumann
and contemporary Danish piano music, in addition to the piano concerti by Schumann, Schönberg, Kuhlau
,Grieg and Otto Malling. Furthermore several recordings with the cellist Morten Zeuthen, the Kontra Quartet
and in piano duo with the Swedish pianist Hans Pålsson.
Since 1981 Amalie Malling has been an associate professor of the Royal Danish Academy of Music.

ALESSANDRO SOLBIATI

Alessandro Solbiati, nato nel 1956, e si è diplomato al Conservatorio “Giuseppe Verdi” di Milano in pianoforte con Eli Perrotta e
composizione con Sandro Gorli. Contemporaneamente ha frequentato i corsi di composizione con Franco Donatoni all’Accademia
Chigiana di Siena per quattro anni (1977-1980). Oltre a diversi concorsi nazionali, Solbiati ha vinto il Concorso Internazionale di
Torino con “Quartetto d’archi” nel 1980 e il Concorso RAi-Paganini di Roma con “Di Luce” per violino e orchestra nel 1982. Gli
sono state commissionate composizioni da diverse organizzazione europee. La sua musica è stata eseguita in importanti festival
internazionali e trasmessa da diverse radio europee e statunitensi. La sua prima opera, “Il carro e i canti”, da un suo libretto dalla
tragedia “Festino in tempo di peste” di Puškin, è stata commissionata dal Teatro “G.Verdi” di Trieste, dove ha debuttato nell’aprile
del 2009. La seconda, “Leggenda”, da un suo libretto da “La leggenda del Grande Inquisitore” (in “Fratelli Karamazov” di
Dostoevskij), commissionato dal Teatro Regio di Torino, ha debuttato nel settembre 2011 al Teatro Carignano di Torino, sotto la
direzione di Gianandrea Noseda e la regia di Stefano Poda. Le sue composizioni sono stare registrate su CD da famosi complessi da
camera (Quartetto Borciani, Trio Matisse, Ensemble Alternance di Parigi, Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain de Lyon e
Divertimento Ensemble di Milano) e da orchestre. Per la RAI ha prodotto due film radiofonici, entrambi basati su testi di Paola
Capriolo: “Frammenti” da “Il gigante” (1994) e “La colomba azzurra” (1996). La sua collaborazione con la Capriolo è continuata nel
1997 con la produzione di un musical intitolato “Con i miei mille occhi”, basato sulla storia edita da Bompiani (libro più CD). Dal
1995 insegna Fuga e Composizione al Conservatorio "G. Verdi" di Milano, dopo aver insegnato le stesse materie al Conservatorio di
Bologna dal 1982 al 1994. Nel 1994 è cominciata la sua collaborazione con il Dipartimento di Musica Contemporanea della
Fondazione Scuole Civiche di Milano. Ha tenuto corsi al Centre Acanthes ad Avignone (Estate 1996) e a Metz (2005) e corsi di
composizione avanzata nei Conservatori di Parigi (1997, 2001 e 2005), Lione (2003 e 2007), Città del Messico (2002), Sydney
(1992).
Alessandro Solbiati was born in 1956, and graduated from the Conservatorio “Giuseppe Verdi” of Milan with degrees in piano
with Eli Perrotta, and composition with Sandro Gorli. At the same time, he attended Franco Donatoni's advanced composition
courses at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena for four years (1977-1980). In addition to several national competitions, he also won the
1980 International Competition of Turin with “Quartetto d'archi” and the 1982 RAI-Paganini Competition in Rome with “Di Luce”,
for violin and orchestra. Solbiati has received many commissions from various organizations throughout Europe. His music has been
performed in major international festivals and recorded and broadcast by many European and American radio stations. His first
opera, “Il carro e i canti”, on his own libretto from the tragedy “The party during the plague” by Puškin, commissioned by the
“G.Verdi” Theatre of Trieste, has been premiered there on April 2009. The second one, “Leggenda”, on his own libretto from “The
legend of the Great Inquisitor” (in “Karamazov brothers” by Dostoevskij), commission by Teatro Regio of Turin, will be premiered
in September 2011 at the Teatro Carignano of Turin, conducted by Gianandrea Noseda and directed by Stefano Poda. His works
have been recorded on CD by various famous chamber groups (Quartetto Borciani, Trio Matisse, Ensemble Alternance of Paris,
Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain de Lyon and Divertimento Ensemble of Milan) and by orchestra (RAI Turin Symphonic
Orchestra). For the Italian National Radio (RAI), he produced two radio films, both based on stories by Paola Capriolo: “Frammenti”
da “Il gigante” (1994) and “La colomba azzurra” (1996). His collaboration with Capriolo has continued in 1997 with a musical
production entitled “Con i miei mille occhi”, based on the long story published by Bompiani (book plus CD). Since 1995 he teaches
Fugue and Compostion at the Conservatorio "G.Verdi" of Milan, after having taught the same subject at the Conservatoire of
Bologna between 1982 and 1994. In 1994 he started collaborating with the Contemporary Music department of the Fondazione
Scuole Civiche di Milano. He held courses at the Centre Acanthes in Avignon (Summer 1996) and in Metz (2005) as well as
advanced composition seminars at various High Conservatories, like Paris (1997, 2001 and 2005), Lyon (2003 and 2007), Mexico
City (2002), Sydney (1992).

PAVEL TROJAN

Pavel Trojan è nato nel 1956 è si è diplomato al Conservatorio e alla Accademia di Musica ed Arte di
Praga. Dal 1986 insegna composizione e teoria della musica al Conservatorio di Praga dove, nel 1992
diventa vice Direttore e successivamente, nel dicembre del 2004, Direttore.
Ha ricevuto numerosi premi in qualità di compositore. Diverse sue composizioni sono state registrate
per trasmissioni e pubblicate su CD e sono state inoltre eseguite a festival di musica contemporanea.
Molti dei suoi lavori sono stati scelti come composizioni obbligatorie in prestigiosi concorsi e rassegne
(The Prague Spring International Music Competition etc.).
L’imponente “Missa Solemnis” per soli, coro misto, organo e orchestra è stata dedicata alla Charles
University di Praga. Un’altra sua composizione vocale/strumentale, l’opera/musical intitolata "Bylo nás pět",
ispirata al famoso lavoro letterario ceco di Karel Poláček, è stata rappresentata dalla Children's Opera di
Praga e eseguita con successo al festival musicale Primavera di Praga del 2003.
Partecipa regolarmente a giurie di concorsi di composizione e di esecuzione musicale (tra i quali Hořovice
1996, Castelfidardo 1998, 2000, 2002 e 2004).
Pavel Trojan was born in 1956 and graduated from the Prague Conservatory and from the Music Academy
of Arts in Prague. Since 1986, he's been teaching composition and music theory at the Prague Conservatory;
in 1992, he assumed the position of deputy director, and in December 2004 became the headmaster.
As a composer, he has received a number of awards. Many of his compositions were recorded for
broadcasting companies as well as to be published on CD, and have been performed at festivals of
contemporary music. Numerous pieces were chosen as compulsory compositions at prestigious
performance festivals (The Prague Spring International Music Competition etc.).
The extensive Missa Solemnis for solo singers, mixed choir, organ and orchestra is dedicated to the Charles
University in Prague. Another of Trojan's vocal/instrumental piece, the opera/musical called "Bylo nás pět",
which was inspired by the famous Czech literary work by Karel Poláček, was staged by the Children's Opera
of Prague and was successfully performed at the music festival Prague Spring 2003.
He regularly appears on juries at performance or composition competitions (e.g., Hořovice 1996,
Castelfidardo 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2004).

PETER TUITE
Royal Irish Academy of Music – Dublino

Uno dei pianisti irlandesi più originali e brillanti, Peter Maurice Tuite si è esibito Irlanda, Regno Unito, Germania, Paesi
Bassi, Svizzera, Italia, Austria, Israele e Stati Uniti e ha trasmesso, a livello nazionale ed internazionale, sia per radio sia per
televisione. La recente stagione include una tournée di sedici città degli Stati Uniti, una serie ampiamente lodata di esecuzioni
delle Variazioni Goldberg di J. S. Bach in Germania, Austria e Italia, numerose apparizioni con la National Symphony
Orchestra of Ireland,. La stagione prossima prevede concerti in Europa, Stati Uniti e Sud America, e un progetto collegato per
l’esecuzione di tutte e sessantadue Sonate per pianoforte di Haydn in dodici concerti sia in Irlanda sia negli Stati Uniti. Ha
studiato al Trinity College di Dublin prima e alla Royal Irish Academy of Music poi. Da studente ha vinto praticamente tutti i
concorsi per esecuzione di musica classica in Irlanda. Nello stesso periodo ha vinto numerose borse di studio per frequentare
corsi in Israele, Germania e Svizzera. A seguito dei successi ottenuti in Irlanda, Germania, Paesi Bassi e Regno Unito, si è
iscritto come Fulbright Scholar al Peabody Institute della Johns Hopkins University negli Stati Uniti, dove ha ottenuto il
dottorato in musica, specializzandosi nei lavori di Olivier Messiaen. Al diploma, è stato nominato per l’elezione alla Pi Kappa
Lambda. Ha studiato con Anthony Glavin e John O’Conor, e con Benjamin Pasternak e Leon Fleisher alla Peabody. Ha
studiato inoltre in particolare Franz Liszt con Lazar Berman nel 2000 e J.S. Bach con Alexis Weissenberg nel 2001.
Totalmente dedito all’insegnamento, nel 2007 torna alla Royal Irish Academy of Music dove attualmente è sia Head of the
Keyboard Faculty sia Senior Dean e dove molti suoi studenti si sono distinti a livello nazionale ed internazionale. Peter coltiva
inoltre un particolare interesse per gli studi interdisciplinari – in special modo per la relazione fra Arte e Storia
dell’Architettura, Letteratura e Filosofia, - e sta per intraprendere ulteriori studi di ricerca in questo campo alla Oxford
University
One of Ireland’s most individual and brilliant concert pianists, Peter Maurice Tuite has performed in Ireland, the UK,
Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Israel and the United States and has broadcast on both radio and
television, nationally and internationally. Highlights of recent seasons include a sixteen-city tour of the United States
performing Beethoven’s Third Concerto and Shostakovich’s Second Concerto, a highly lauded series of concerts performing
J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations throughout Germany, Austria and Italy and numerous performances with the National
Symphony Orchestra of Ireland as part of their main series, all to great critical acclaim Upcoming seasons will include
concerts in Europe, the United States and South America, including a fourteen-city tour of the United States performing
Beethoven’s Fifth Concerto, a seven-city tour of South America and a joint project to perform all sixty-two of Haydn’s Piano
Sonatas over twelve concerts in total in both Ireland and the United States. Educated at Trinity College Dublin and later at the
Royal Irish Academy of Music, as a student he was awarded nearly every prize in classical performance in Ireland. During
this time, he also received numerous awards and scholarships or further study in Israel, Germany and Switzerland. Following
these successes and debuts in Ireland, Germany, Holland and the United Kingdom, he enrolled as a Fulbright Scholar at the
Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University in the United States where he completed a doctorate in music, specialising
in the works of Olivier Messiaen. On graduation, he was nominated for election to Pi Kappa Lambda. Formerly a student of
Anthony Glavin and John O’Conor, Peter studied with Benjamin Pasternak and Leon Fleisher whilst at Peabody. In addition
to this he made a special study of Franz Liszt with Lazar Berman in 2000 and of J.S. Bach with Alexis Weissenberg in 2001.
Deeply committed to music education, he returned in 2007 to the Royal Irish Academy of Music where he is now both Head
of the Keyboard Faculty and Senior Dean and where many of his students have achieved distinction at both national and
international level. In addition, Peter has a keen interest in interdisciplinary studies - especially on the relationships between
Art and Architectural History, Literature and Philosophy - and is also undertaking further interdisciplinary research at Oxford
University
