Lectures on Stellar Populations
Integrated spectral indices to recover SFH in galaxies
(from Thomas et al. 2005)

Lectures on Stellar Populations
Outline of the Course:
•
Summary of Stellar Evolution
Review of general properties of stellar tracks, which determine the
appearance of the HRD and its systematics. Close up on those features
particularly relevant to decode SFH from the data.
•
Theoretical Tools for the Interpretation of the CMDs of Composite
Stellar Populations in terms of SFH
Going from the HRD to the CMD; check of the theoretical models.
Relation between stellar counts in selected regions of the CMD and Mass
of the stellar population.
Simulations of CMDs.
•
Integrated Light of Stellar Populations
Bolometric Magnitudes and contributions from different parts of the HRD;
Magnitudes and Colors; Mass-to-Light ratios; Spectral Indices.
