IL SALOTTO DI PIACENZA
A un anno esatto da Expo 2015:
l’evento per eccellenza che si
terrà a Milano e che coinvolgerà 144 Nazioni del Mondo , il
nostro paese non poteva trovarsi
impreparato. Rivergaro è sicuramente tra le località più belle
della Provincia Piacentina, e per
tale occasione abbiamo ritenuto
indispensabile farne conoscere
le bellezze e valorizzarne il potenziale.
E’ nato quindi questo progetto,
un mezzo efficace per testimoniare l’importanza di Rivergaro ai
numerosi visitatori dell’Expo e
soprattutto, a tutti coloro che
avranno la fortuna di passare nei
nostri luoghi.
Naturalmente non è un progetto
chiuso, anzi, siamo fin d’ora
pronti per recepire consigli, critiche e informazioni al fine
di migliorare, completare e trasformare la pubblicazione. L’obiettivo è quello di creare una
seconda edizione che farà la sua
comparsa ufficiale in occasione
dell’inaugurazione
dell’Expo
di Milano del prossimo anno.

With exactly one year to go before
Expo 2015, an event par excellence
taking place in Milan and
involving 144 nations from around
the world, our town shall not find
itself unprepared. Rivergaro is
among the most beautiful places
within the Province of Piacenza,
and for this reason we have
decided it necessary to let its
beauty be known and its potential
appreciated.
This is how this project was
conceived, as an effective way to
show the true value of Rivergaro
to all visitors to the Expo 2015 and
in particular to those taking the
opportunity to tour our wonderful
region.
Of course, this is not a finalized
project; on the contrary, we are
open to receiving suggestions,
criticism and information in order
to
improve,
complete
and
transform this publication. Our
goal is the creation of a second
edition, which will make its official
appearance in time for the
inauguration of The Milan Expo
next year.

DELLA VALTREBBIA
Rivergaro, è il maggior centro abitato tra Piacenza e
Bobbio. Contornato da amene
colline, è un rinomato centro
di villeggiatura e turistico.
Situato sulla sponda destra
del fiume Trebbia, a soli 20
km dalla città dal capoluogo
Piacenza è il primo paese
della Valtrebbia . Si racconta
che Hemingway visitando la
zona la definì la “più bella
valle del mondo”.
La maggior attrazione del
paese è infatti l’ambiente in
cui è immerso caratterizzato
dal fiume Trebbia e dalle
colline ricche di sentieri e di
percorsi ciclabili.
Il bel viale lungo il fiume,
costituisce il tradizionale
luogo di incontro degli abitanti del paese e dei turisti
che concludono la loro passeggiata in Piazza Paolo nota
come “Salotto della Valtrebbia” in uno dei suoi accoglienti bar.
Nel corso degli anni diverse
cose sono cambiate. Quello
che un tempo era denominato
il “mare dei piacentini”, un
vero e proprio lido attrezzato
con tanto di chiosco per bibite e snack, noleggio sdraio ed
ombrelloni è scomparso; in
compenso sono stati fatti
realizzare, da parte delle
amministrazioni comunali
che si sono succedute, una
serie di interventi di arredo
urbano e di riqualificazione
del territorio, ridisegnandone
l’aspetto, così da rendere la
passeggiata lungo le rive del
Trebbia particolarmente gradevole
e
suggestiva.

Il Trebbia e le sue anse rappresentano quindi da sempre
il principale richiamo per un
turismo spontaneo, un’importante risorsa che tanto ha
contribuito a rendere nota ed
apprezzata questa località,
consentendole di mettere in
mostra i numerosi altri spunti di interesse, che sono di
carattere storico, ambientale
e
paesaggistico.
Questi interventi di recupero
e mantenimento hanno contribuito a conservare il nome
di Rivergaro tra quelli dei
più importanti e conosciuti
comuni piacentini.
Rivergaro, the main town
between Piacenza and Bobbio
and surrounded by pleasing
hills, is a renowned tourist
destination. Located on the right
bank of the River Trebbia and
only 20 km from Piacenza, it is
the first town you encounter as
you travel from the city towards
Valtrebbia. It is said that
Hemingway described it as “the
most beautiful valley in the
world”.
The town's greatest attraction is
the surrounding countryside,
with its River Trebbia and hills
full of paths and cycling tracks.
A pleasant walkway along the
river is the traditional meeting
point for the residents and
tourists
who
end
their
promenades in Piazza Paolo,
known
as
“the
Salon of
Valtrebbia”, in one of its cosy
cafés.
Over the years, several things
have changed. What was once
called “the sea of the piacentini”,
a real shore with a kiosk serving
drinks and snacks and a rental
place for sunbeds and beach
umbrellas,
has
long
since
disappeared. However, the local
Governments have been carrying
out a series of urban planning
projects for the renovation of the
area, redesigning the look of the
promenade making it pleasant
and enchanting.
River Trebbia has always been
the main attraction for tourists,
an important resource that has
helped Rivergaro remain wellknown and loved. This also
allows us to highlight a number
of other points of interest from
the historical and environmental
to landscape features.
Restoration and maintenance
work has contributed to keeping
Rivergaro among the most
important and renowned places
in the Province.

La Chiesa parrocchiale di
S. Agata eretta nel 1813 proprio di fianco alla Villa Anguissola – Scotti.
Contiene alcuni gioielli pregiati quali il
busto di S. Agata sulla facciata, risalente
al XV secolo e i tre quadri raffiguranti la
Santa e il pulpito, che proviene dalla Chiesa di S. Agostino di Piacenza.

L’edificio dell’Oratorio di S. Rocco
venne costruito nel XVII secolo per volere della Confraternita di San Rocco e ampliato nell’Ottocento; nella cappella a destra della navata venne collocato un dipinto raffigurante la
Madonna col Bambino fra S. Lucia e S. Biagio attribuito al Pitocchetto (Giacomo Ceruti
1698 – 1767) noto pittore di opere sacre. Da notare anche il pregevole stendardo ricamato a
“punto francese” della Confraternita di San Rocco che
rappresenta la Madonna, S. Pietro e S. Rocco che regge lo
stemma dei Farnese.
The Oratory of St. Rocco was built in the 17th
century at the request of the Confraternity of St.
Rocco and expanded in the 19th century. In the chapel
on the right of the nave one can admire a painting
depicting the Madonna with Child between St. Lucia
and St. Biagio, attributed to Pitocchetto (Giacomo
Ceruti 1698 – 1767), a well-known painter of sacred
scenes. Another remarkable piece is the standard embroidered with the “French knot”
technique of the Confraternity of St. Rocco, which depicts the Virgin Mary, St. Peter
and St. Rocco who is holding the coat of arms of the House of Farnese.

Il Santuario Della Beata Vergine del
Castello spesso viene identificato con la
cappella che doveva sorgere accanto al fortilizio che dominava la vallata del Trebbia, ma
dell’edificio originario rimangono solo alcuni
elementi in stile romanico nella facciata a
sud. La statua della Madonna originaria
probabilmente fu realizzata nel X o XI
secolo di conseguenza
del suo stile semplice
non è rimasta traccia
poiché
attualmente
ha assunto un diverso
aspetto dovuto alle
modifiche che gli sono
state apportate
nell’Ottocento.
Particolarmente interessante
e frequentato è il sentiero
della Madonnina, che parte dalla località Castagna,
situata a circa 1 km dal centro storico, raggiungibile in
pochi minuti proprio dalla
piazzetta di S. Agata. Questo
itinerario conduce, attraverso
un suggestivo percorso caratterizzato dal verde di una
belle vegetazione e dal corso
di Rio Rivergaro, al Santuario della Madonna delle Grazie e al sito denominato Montanino che si raggiunge a
piedi attraverso una passerella in cemento che oltrepassa il Rio Vergaro (da cui il
paese prende il nome).
L’edificio della Parrocchia
di Pieve di San Pietro
venne citato per la prima
volta in un documento
dell’anno 890, ma probabilmente esisteva già nel IV
secolo. Originariamente in
stile romanico, oggi appare a
tre navate dopo i lavori di
ampliamento eseguiti nel
Seicento.
La facciata presenta un timpano a tre paraste che suggeriscono già all’esterno la ripartizione interna dello spazio.

of the Castle is often identified with
the chapel intended to be built next to
the castle overlooking the Valley of
River Trebbia. Unfortunately, what
remains of the original building are only
some Romanesque elements in the
southern façade. The
original statue of the
Virgin

10th or 11th century but
due to modifications
made during the 19th
century no traces of its
simple style remain
today.
The Madonnina Path is a
particularly interesting and
popular place. The path
starts from the area called
Castagna, about 1 km from
the Old Town, a few minutes'
walk away from St. Agata's
square. This track passes
through an enchanting route
characterized by lush green
vegetation and the stream of
the Rio Rivergaro leading to
the Sanctuary of Our Lady of
Graces and on to the site
called Montanino, reachable
by walking on a cement
boardwalk that crosses the
stream Rio Vergaro (which
gives the town its name).
The building of the Parish
Church of Pieve of St.
Peter was first mentioned
in a document dating back
to 890, but it probably
already existed as early as
the 4th century. It was
originally
built
in
a
Romanesque
style,
but
following expansion work in
the 17th century it now has
three aisles. The façade
displays a tympanum with
three
pilasters, evoking
from
the
outside
the
subdivision of the space
inside.

The “dolce vita” in Rivergaro
Rivergaro excelled in rankings by the national newspaper “Il Sole 24 Ore”: 34th position in Italy, first in Piacenza.
Within the top one hundred, also Fiorenzuola and Podenzano. The mayor: “Green areas will remain”.
RIVERGARO – Wine, volleyball, food and sweets, beaches along the Trebbia and “an abundance of sports practitioners
ready to take up residency in Rivergaro”, guarantees mayor Pietro Martini. Furthermore, in the list of the town’s added
values, the local council income surtax is 0.2%, one of the lowest in the Province, and Arpa (the Regional Environmental
Protection Agency) is to imminently verify the quality of the air. Rivergaro is, according to yesterday's “Il Sole 24 Ore” the
“happiest [Piacentino village] in Italy”, thirty-fourth among its Italian counterparts. Within the top hundred towns with the
highest Bil (Gross Domestic Well-being index) in Italy are also Fiorenzuola, in fifty-fourth place, and Podenzano, in ninetyfourth place. Mayor Martini gratefully thanks the entire community, while MP Paola De Micheli, from the Democratic
Party, stresses that this placement is not only due to the community but also “the fruits of long-standing good local
government: it's no coincidence that the other two Piacentino towns in the ranking also have long standing centre/left-wing
administrations as well.
However, some say that urban expansion has been too great. “I said it in 2004 and reaffirmed it in 2009”, declares the
mayor, “there will not be excessive urbanisation, the green areas must remain. We are currently working on our Public
Service Commission and it is in this Act that our intentions will be stated: certainly there will be some critical points but we
are not going to build excessively.”
It is widely known that Rivergaro has a strong sporting history, as testified by the many associations. However, people are
still waiting on a promised swimming pool. The mayor follows: “yes, we had another meeting a few hours ago. There will
soon be another invitation to tender. This time the tender is designed to be more attractive and includes both the swimming
pool and the gym in Niviano as well. We see an increase in the number of residents. We are currently around 7,000. Life is
good in Rivergaro.”The rankings were formulated from the starting point of all 8,100 towns in Italy. Firstly, the top 260
were selected, going through a list of 20 parameters drafted by the Sintesi Study Centre in Mestre, relating to towns with
inhabitants exceeding 3,000, and, instead of the “old” gross domestic product, rankings were based on indicators of economic
and social well-being: the indicators of happiness, as reported by “Il Sole 24 Ore”. The top 260 selected towns went through
49 more indicators, divided into 8 areas: living conditions, education and learning, participation in the world of politics,
social relations, security, environment, personal activities and health.
