WHERE THE ACTIVITIES WILL TAKE PLACE:
Giardino di Madre Teresa
Giardino di Madre Teresa was created in March 2010 and it hosts about 40 kids.
The kindergarten was opened to meet the needs of the parents, especially
immigrants, who work and have nowhere to leave their youngest children. The
nursery is opened to all boys and girls, who are aged from 1 to 5 years, from
Monday to Friday from 07.30 to 18.00, Saturdays until 14.00.
The building was recently renovated and renewed. The interior is perfectly
equipped. There are two different rooms for the different age groups and a lot of
toys and games for the kids. Most of the time the children have the possibility to
play outside in the garden.
TASKS of the volunteers:

Santa Chiara
Since 1997, Santa Chiara offers a play-centre for the children of the immigrants
to stay during the day so the parents could go to work. The kindergarten is opened
from 7.30 to 19.00 and welcomes 48 children from 0 to 5 years. The pre-school
aged children are engaged in various recreational activities.

Five immigrant women opened in Palermo the “House for all nations”, an
educational institution designed to accommodate children from a few months to
12 years. There are more than 50 children coming from Cape Verde, Tunisia,
Morocco, Ghana, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, but also many Italians.
The recreation area is open from 7.30 am to 7 pm. Parents are asked to pay an
annual fee for the children. Since not everyone can afford to give the financial
support, some parents work there as a volunteer to help out.
TASKS of the volunteers:
Play with the children
Feed the children, put them to sleep
Organise activities for the children, for example go to the
park
Help the staff to tidy the kindergarden and keep order

Mensa del Samaritano
Located on the premises of a former monastery of Benedictine nuns, Locanda and
Mensa of Samaritano is a place where homeless people find temporary
accommodation awaiting permanent accommodation. The centre aims to provide a
response to basic needs and provide the opportunity for people to experience a first
contact with the network of public and private services to provide help and support.
Every day lunch is served for about 60 people at the canteen (Mensa del
Samaritano).
TASKS of the volunteers:
Set the tables in the morning
Clean the pots and the pans
Help to prepare the food
Help to prepare the plates
Help to serve the food
Clean the work areas when finished
