La mostra inaugurata in contemporanea con il progetto Space Painting del ICA (Institute of Contemporary Art) di Londra, si articola come una contaminazione sottile tra interno ed esterno. L’artista attraverso la sua pittura trasparente sembra portare la natura del parco di Villa Croce all’interno del museo e contemporaneamente trasforma le pareti storiche in leggeri fogli di carta, reinventando un soggetto caro alla tradizione dell’aquerello. Riconosciuto a livello internazionale per i suoi quadri apparentemente astratti, Zhang Enli dipinge seducenti composizioni fatte di oggetti quotidiani insignificanti: tubi, cavi d’acciaio, pompe da giardino, muri di piastrelle e fili annodati. Tuttavia l’abile trattamento della pittura acrilica e dell’acquerello, trasformano questi elementi quotidiani in rappresentazioni capaci di ridefinire l’idea di profondità e di disegno. Concentrandosi volutamente su soggetti ordinari e privi di interesse, Zhang Enli sembra evocare il suo senso di straniamento come cittadino della campagna rurale arrivato a studiare, prima e vivere, poi in una megalopoli moderne come Shanghai. Museo d’Arte Contemporanea di Villa Croce via Jacopo Ruffini 3, 16128 Genova t +39 010 580069/585772 [email protected] Il suo lavoro infatti è intimo e sottilmente evocativo, rifuggendo, a differenza del lavoro di molti suoi contemporanei cinesi la critica al capitalismo globale come manifestato nei diversi movimenti del ‘Political Pop’, ‘Kitsch Art’, o del ‘Realismo Cinico’ emersi in Cina durante il boom economico degli anni ’90. Attraverso le sue tele e i suoi interventi site-specific Zhang Enli racconta un mondo fatto di oggetti famigliari che sono talmente banali da passare inosservati, un mondo silente che prende vita grazie alle inquadrature inusuali delle sue tele. Il suo lavoro si struttura serialmente su diverse tematiche: i contenitori, le scatole di cartone, i bauli, le reti di cinta. Scegliendo luoghi e particolari insignificanti non cerca di parlare di politica ne metaforicamente del mondo, al contrario cerca di aprire uno spazio neutro in cui i colori, le immagini parlino silenziosamente al pubblico portandolo a sognare ad occhi aperti.
