COSA SONO E COME FUNZIONANO
WHAT THEY ARE AND HOW THEY WORK
I misuratori portata aria sono impiegati per fornire alla centralina di gestione motore i dati necessari per una combustione pulita misurando la massa dell’aria entrante nel motore.
Questa informazione viene usata dalla centralina per fornire al motore la corretta quantità di carburante in ogni
condizione. Questa misurazione precisa è essenziale per ottenere bassi consumi di carburante e prestazioni complete. Inoltre, per soddisfare ai limiti di emissione del veicolo richiesti dalla legge, è necessario mantenere esattamente un dato rapporto aria/carburante.
Ciò si ottiene per mezzo di un tubo Venturi dotato di un sensore riscaldato elettricamente, il cui principio di funzionamento è il seguente. Il sensore del misuratore dissipa calore nell’aria entrante.
Maggiore è il flusso d’aria, maggiore è il calore che viene dissipato dal sensore e maggiore è la corrente richiesta
dal misuratore per mantenere costante la temperatura del sensore. Il differenziale di temperatura che ne risulta
costituisce una misura della massa d’aria che fluisce attraverso il misuratore. Un circuito elettronico valuta questi
dati in modo da misurare la portata d’aria in modo molto preciso.
Alcuni tipi di misuratori contengono anche un sensore di temperatura ausiliario mediante il quale la centralina di
gestione motore è in grado di valutare per comparazione ulteriori dati di temperatura.
Tipici sintomi di guasto del misuratore portata aria sono: difficoltà di avviamento del motore, esitazioni di
funzionamento e talvolta l’arresto del motore stesso.
Mass air flow meters are employed to provide the engine management electronic control unit (ECU) with data needed for clean combustion, by measuring the mass of the air entering the engine.
This information is used by the ECU to supply the engine with the correct amount of fuel in every condition. This
precise measurement is essential to obtain low fuel consumption and full engine performances. Moreover, in order
to comply with the vehicle emission limits requested by law, it is necessary to maintain a given air/fuel ratio exactly.
This is achieved by a Venturi tube carrying an electrically heated sensor element, whose operating principle is as
follows. The sensor element in the air-mass meter dissipates heat to the incoming air.
The higher the flow, the more heat is dissipated and the higher is the current demanded by the meter unit in order
to keep constant its sensor’s temperature. The resulting temperature differential is a measure for the air mass
flowing throughout the meter unit. An electronic circuit evaluates this measuring data so that the air flow quantity
can be measured very precisely.
Some meter types are also fitted with an auxiliary temperature sensor by which the engine ECU is able to evaluate
by comparison further temperature data.
Typical mass air flow meter failure symptoms are engine hard start, hesitation and sometimes also stalling.
