WSK Euro Series 2011 - Round 1 - Sarno (Italy) - 11-12-13 March
Rarely had an international race gathered such an amazing group of participants. First
of all in terms of quantity, with almost 250 entered drivers, but far and foremost in terms of
qualify. There were a countless number of World and European champions at this first round of 2011
WSK Euro Series in Sarno. In this very stimulating context for karting, CRG chassis and Maxter engines
led CRG Racing Team drivers to the top. Jonathan Thonon won a particularly important final race preceding the
world elite. Mirko Torsellini did likewise in KZ2. As for Max Verstappen, the driver who races for CRG in KF3, he
continued to extend his list of podiums: already three in as many races since the start of the season.
“With its 1,700 m, its long straight stretches and its varied bends, the Sarno circuit puts equipment to hard test. It is one of the
places where we wanted to win to show all the qualities of our karts, and now it’s a done deal! And when we think of the amazing
level of this meeting, it is even more rewarding. What is more, our CRG chassis won in the dry on Saturday with Thonon and Max
Verstappen made it to podium in the rain on Sunday. It’s a very good omen for the continuation of the season, and we are not going
to let up!” This is how CRG team commented the night of the race.
KZ: 1 Final, 2 Victories
On Saturday, Jonathan Thonon was magnificent in KZ1: pole position, winner of his
two heats and then of the final with best
lap time in all three races! It was definitely
a brilliant performance for the Belgian
driver and his CRG-Maxter/Tec Sav kart.
Thanks to an engine coming straight from
Maxter’s workshops, Arnaud Kozlinski won
a heat, too. He then ended up against the
bumpers of his team mate in the final,
Davide Fore
before he retired after an incident that
happens once in a million times: his seat broke! On Sunday, it was
Davide Forè’s time to show his ability. The Italian climbed to the third
step of the podium after Sunday’s rainy race. Another brilliant performance came from Mirko Torsellini, who won Final 1 in KZ2. He also
set the pole position as well as the best lap time in his category.

KF1: Looking for Top Performance
In a category that now adopts engines identical to those in KF2,
Felice Tiene, Mathias Koykka and Jordon Lennox-Lamb managed to
return to the top 10 in one of the two finals. And again, they had to
catch up to achieve their results after some qualifying sessions where
they would have deserved better. “Next time, we will have to do better
in timed qualifying”, the drivers admitted. As for Laura Tillett, she was
among the five fastest drivers in Final 1, but overall her performance
was not totally satisfactory during the weekend.

KF2/KF3: Third Podium for Verstappen
After conquering the pole position in the dry, Max Verstappen was
also the fastest on track in the rain in the whole final phase of KF3.
Though he was bumped into at the start of the pre-final, he staged
an incredible catch up to second at the wheel of his CRG. A slight
mistake in difficult conditions deprived him of a victory that was
within his reach in the final. However, with this other second place,
Max has made a very good start at his WSK Euro Series. Also noteworthy are Michelle Gatting’s encouraging performances in KF2, considering that the Danish girl decided to enter the meeting at the very
last minute!

Vittorie ai piedi del Vesuvio

Raramente una gara internazionale presenta un parterre di questa levatura. Innanzitutto
per numero di piloti, 250 quelli impegnati, ma soprattutto per la qualità. Erano davvero tanti i
campioni del mondo ed europei presenti a questa prima prova 2011 della WSK Euro Series a Sarno.
In questo contesto particolarmente gratificante per il karting, i telai CRG e i motori Maxter hanno
accompagnato verso la vetta i piloti del CRG Racing Team. Jonathan Thonon ha vinto una finale particolarmente
importante davanti all’elite mondiale, imitato anche da Mirko Torsellini nella KZ2. Dal canto suo Max Verstappen, il
pilota CRG impegnato nella KF3, continua a infilare un podio dietro l’altro: già tre in altrettante gare da inizio stagione.
“Con i suoi 1700 metri, i lunghi rettilinei, le curve e controcurve, il circuito di Sarno è impietoso con i kart. È una delle piste dove
volevamo vincere per valorizzare la qualità dei nostri mezzi. Ed eccoci accontentati! E quando si vede il livello della gara, è ancora
più gratificante. Inoltre il nostro telaio CRG ha vinto sull’asciutto sabato con Thonon e domenica sotto una pioggia battente Max
Verstappen è salito sul podio. È un eccellente auspicio per il proseguimento della stagione, anche se non bisogna mai sedersi sugli
allori!” Questo è stato il commento del team CRG la sera della gara.
KZ: 1 finale, 2 vittorie
Jonathan Thonon si è dimostrato eccezionale
sabato nella KZ1: pole position, vincitore delle
sue due manche e poi della finale, facendo
segnare il giro più veloce tutte e tre le volte!
Arte allo stato puro per il belga e il suo CRGMaxter/Tec Sav. Con un motore sviluppato
direttamente nelle officine della Maxter,
anche Arnaud Kozlinski si è aggiudicato una
manche. Nella finale ha girato alle costole del
suo compagno di squadra, prima di ritirarsi in

seguito a un incidente rarissimo: la rottura del
sedile! Domenica è toccato a Davide Forè mettersi in mostra. L’italiano
è riuscito a conquistare il terzo gradino del podio nella piovosa gara di
domenica. Altra grande prestazione è stata quella di Mirko Torsellini,
vincitore della Finale 1 nella KZ2. L’italiano ha anche conquistato la pole
position e fatto segnare il miglior giro della sua categoria.

KF1: Ritorno al top
In una categoria che ormai usa gli stessi motori della KF2, Felice
Tiene, Mathias Koykka e Jordon Lennox-Lamb sono riusciti a entrare
nei primi 10 in una delle due finali. E hanno anche dovuto effettuare
una rimonta per ottenere i loro risultati dopo delle qualificazioni
dove meritavano di meglio. “La prossima volta dobbiamo fare di
meglio nelle prove cronometrate”, hanno ammesso i piloti. Laura Tillett, faceva parte dei cinque piloti più veloci della Finale 1, ma non è
riuscita a concretizzare nel week-end.

KF2/KF3: Terzo podio per Verstappen
Autore della pole position sull’asciutto, Max Verstappen è stato poi il
più veloce in pista sul bagnato nel corso di tutta la fase finale nella
KF3. Purtroppo un contatto alla partenza della prefinale lo ha costretto a una incredibile rimonta fino a raggiungere il secondo posto al
volante del suo CRG. Un piccolo errore in condizioni così estreme
non gli ha permesso di conquistare la vittoria in finale che era assolutamente alla sua portata. Tuttavia con quest’altro 2° posto Max ha
incominciato benissimo la sua WSK Euro Series. Da sottolineare le
prestazioni incoraggianti di Michelle Gatting nella KF2, nonostante la
danese abbia deciso di partecipare alla prova all’ultimo minuto!

Rarement, une course internationale n’avait présenté un tel plateau. Tout d’abord en
quantité, avec près de 250 engagés, mais surtout en qualité. On ne comptait plus les Champions
du Monde et Champions d’Europe lors de cette première épreuve 2011 de la WSK Euro Series à Sarno.
Dans ce contexte particulièrement valorisant pour le karting, les châssis CRG et les moteurs Maxter ont tiré
vers le haut les pilotes du CRG Racing Team. Jonathan Thonon a remporté une finale particulièrement importante
devant l’élite mondiale. Il a été imité par Mirko Torsellini en KZ2. Quant à Max Verstappen, le pilote engagé par CRG
en KF3, il continue d’enchaîner les podiums: déjà trois en autant de courses depuis le début de la saison.
“Avec ses 1700 mètres, ses longues lignes droites et ses virages variés, le circuit de Sarno est intraitable avec le matériel. C’est l’un
des endroits où nous voulions gagner pour mettre en valeur les qualités de notre matériel, c’est chose faite ! Et lorsqu’on voit le
niveau de l’épreuve, c’est encore plus gratifiant. De plus, notre châssis CRG a gagné sur le sec le samedi avec Thonon et Max
Verstappen est monté sur le podium le dimanche sous la pluie. C’est d’excellente augure pour la suite de la saison, même s’il ne faut
jamais relâcher ses efforts !” Tel était le commentaire du team CRG le soir de la course.
KZ: 1 finale, 2 victoires
Jonathan Thonon s’est montré impérial le
samedi en KZ1: pole position, vainqueur
de ses deux manches puis de la finale avec
le meilleur tour dans les trois cas ! Du
grand art pour le Belge et son ensemble
CRG-Maxter/Tec Sav. Avec un moteur
développé directement dans les ateliers
de Maxter, Arnaud Kozlinski a également
remporté une manche. Il évoluait dans le
pare-chocs de son équipier en finale,

avant de renoncer suite à un incident rarissime: la casse de son siège ! Le dimanche, ce fut au tour de Davide
Forè de s’illustrer. L’Italien escaladait la troisième marche du podium
de la course pluvieuse dominicale. Autre grande performance, celle
de Mirko Torsellini, vainqueur de la Finale 1 en KZ2, . L’Italien avait
aussi signé la pole position et le meilleur tour de sa catégorie.

KF1: Performances à concrétiser
Dans une catégorie qui utilise désormais des moteurs identiques à la
catégorie KF2, Felice Tiene, Mathias Koykka et Jordon Lennox-Lamb
ont réussi à rentrer dans le top-10 dans l’une des deux finales. Et
encore, ils ont dû remonter pour obtenir leurs résultats après des
qualifications où ils méritaient mieux. “A nous de réussir de meilleurs
chronos la prochaine fois”, ont avoué les pilotes. Quant à Laura Tillett,
elle faisait partie des cinq pilotes les plus rapides de la Finale 1, mais
a globalement manqué de réussite durant le week-end.

KF2/KF3: 3e podium pour Verstappen
Auteur de la pole position sur le sec, Max Verstappen était ensuite le
plus rapide en piste sous la pluie tout au long de la phase finale en
KF3. Hélas, il se faisait bousculer au départ de la pré-finale et effectuait une incroyable remontée jusqu’à la deuxième place au volant
de son CRG. Une légère faute dans des conditions difficiles lui faisait
perdre une victoire à sa portée en finale. Toutefois, avec cette autre
deuxième position, Max a très bien démarré sa WSK Euro Series. A
noter aussi les performances encourageantes de Michelle Gatting en
KF2, alors que la Danoise s’est décidée de participer à l’épreuve au
dernier moment !

Vitórias junto ao Vesúvio

Raramente, uma corrida Internacional apresentou um tal conjunto. Primeiro em
quantidade, com cerca de 250 inscritos, mas sobretudo em qualidade. Foram bastantes os
Campeões do Mundo e Campeões da Europa, presentes nesta primeira prova 2011 da WSK Euro Series
em Sarno. Neste contexto particularmente valorizante para o karting, os chassis CRG e os motores Maxter
destacaram os pilotos da CRG Racing Team. Jonathan Thonon venceu a final particularmente importante, na
frente da Elite Mundial. Mirko Torsellini fez o mesmo na KZ2. Quanto a Max Verstappen, o piloto inscrito pela CRG na
KF3, continua a acumular pódios: três pódios em três corridas, desde o início da época desportiva.
“Com os seus 1700 metros, as suas longas linhas direitas e as suas curvas variadas, o Circuito de Sarno é intratável com o material.
É um dos locais onde queríamos ganhar para destacar as qualidades do nosso material, e conseguimos ! E quando se vê o nível da
prova, é ainda mais gratificante. Ainda mais, que o nosso chassi CRG venceu Sábado no seco com Thonon e Max Verstappen subiu
ao pódio no Domingo sob a chuva. É um excelente presságio para o seguimento da época, mesmo se é preciso sempre continuar os
esforços !” Foi o comentário da equipa CRG na noite da corrida.
KZ: 1 final, 2 vitórias
Jonathan Thonon mostrou-se imperial
no Sábado na KZ1: pole position, vencedor das suas duas mangas e depois
da final, com a melhor volta nos três
casos ! A grande arte para o Belga e o
seu conjunto CRG-Maxter/Tec Sav.
Com um motor desenvolvido directamente nos ateliers da Maxter, Arnaud
Kozlinski conquistou igualmente uma
manga. Na final, ele evoluí-a colado ao
Davide Fore
seu colega de equipa, antes de abandonar devido a um incidente raríssimo: a sua cadeira partiu ! No
Domingo, foi a vez de Davide Forè se destacar. O Italiano subia ao 3º
degrau do pódio da corrida pluviosa Dominical. Outro grande
desempenho, o de Mirko Torsellini, vencedor da Final 1 na KZ2. O Italiano também tinha assinado a pole position e a melhor volta da sua
categoria.

KF1: Desempenhos a concretizar
Numa categoria que utiliza doravante motores idênticos à categoria
KF2, Felice Tiene, Mathias Koykka e Jordon Lennox-Lamb conseguiram entrar no top-10, numa das duas finais. E tiveram de recuperar,
após as qualificações onde mereciam melhor, para obterem os seus
resultados. “A nós de conseguir melhores cronometrados para a
próxima”, declararam os pilotos. Quanto a Laura Tillett, ela integrava
os cinco pilotos mais rápidos da Final 1, mas faltou-lhe a concretização durante o fim-de-semana.

KF2/KF3: 3º pódio para Verstappen
Autor da pole position no seco, Max Verstappen foi de seguida o
mais rápido em pista sob a chuva, ao longo de toda a fase final da
KF3. Infelizmente, ele foi empurrado na partida da pré-final, mas conseguiu subir incrivelmente até ao 2º lugar, ao volante do seu CRG. Na
final, um pequeno erro em condições difíceis, fizeram-no perder uma
vitória que estava ao seu alcance. Não obstante, com esta outra 2ª
posição, Max iniciou bem a sua WSK Euro Series. De salientar também os desempenhos encorajadores de Michelle Gatting na KF2,
que se decidiu a participar na prova ao último momento !
