WELCOME FROM
MIKE SINYARD
– ;O`YVO[8]V\a]\
Dear Journalist,
First and foremost, thank you for traveling from all corners of the globe to attend the unveiling
of our 2010 line of bikes and equipment. All the success we’ve enjoyed at Specialized over the
years would have been impossible without the support of media partners like you.
I’ve highlighted a few of the many new product developments this year. We hope you enjoy riding
them as much as we’ve enjoyed creating them.
Stumpjumper FSR – King of the Mountain
The revolutionary 2010 carbon and alloy Stumpjumpers are the best cross-country trail bikes
ever created. Period. Big words, I know, but it’s true. There has never been a lighter, more efficient or more capable bike in this class – from us or from anyone. From the advanced Brain technology in the fork and shock (with a brain shock innovated by Specialized and built by Fox), to
radical new FACT carbon and M5 alloy frames with unmatched stiffness to weight, all capped off
with 140mm of travel that climbs like a race bike and descends with complete control.
Enduro SL – Tougher than Dirt
Demonstrating our investment to innovation, we are launching two major full suspension platforms in 2010: the Stumpjumper FSR and its more aggressive brother, the Enduro SL. Built for
fearless All Mountain riders, the 2010 Enduro SL is lighter, stiffer, more aggressive and more capable, with an all-new fork and custom Fox rear shock, matched to 160mm of fully active FSR travel.
29ers – Big Wheels Keep on Rollin’!
We’ve worked extremely hard to develop the best 29er offering out there. From the all-new,
lightest-in-its-class S-Works Stumpjumper 29er that Todd Wells rode to win the Sea Otter
Short Track, to the race-ready Epic 29ers, to our more attainable Stumpjumper and Rockhopper
29ers, we have applied all of our knowledge and resources to create bikes that provide the
traction, square-edge bump performance and handling benefits of big wheels, with distinctly
Specialized technology.
Bikes and Equipment for Women
Specialized is a brand of riders for riders. We focus on the rider’s need and then develop technologically advanced bikes and equipment that provide performance benefits. An increasing
number of riders we serve are women, and with mountain bikes like our race-inclined Era, trailready Safire and recreational Myka FSRs and hardtails, we have a little something for every kind
of female mountain rider out there. We will once again offer a Susan G. Komen line of bikes and
equipment, with a percentage of the profits donated to breast cancer research.
I want to extend a personal invitation to all of you to contact me directly if you ever have a question about anything we make, an athlete we sponsor or an initiative we support. Additionally, any
time that you’re going to be near our headquarters in California, please make a point to stop by
and go for a ride with our extended family.
Innovate or Die!

TOTAL SUSPENSION INTEGRATION:
BETTER TOGETHER
FSR = ACTIVE = CONTROL
TOTAL SUSPENSION INTEGRATION GIVES US CONTROL
OVER A BIKE’S ENTIRE SUSPENSION SYSTEM – GIVING ANY
RIDER BETTER CONTROL OVER ANY TRAIL.
ALL RIDERS HAVE THE RIGHT TO ACTIVE AND INDEPENDENT SUSPENSION
We believe that suspension should be free to compress and rebound in an uninhibited way
over any given terrain. That’s how suspension provides control and how it helps you keep your
wheels on the ground.
Shorthand for our completely integrated approach to developing the most high performance
suspension bikes available, Total Suspension Integration (TSI) helps make every Specialized
suspension bike the best in its class. By developing the fork, shock, chassis and FSR suspension
telemetry from scratch for distinct types of riding, we’re able to ensure truly optimized performance.
For oh, about fifteen years now, our active and independent FSR suspension design has been
giving all kinds of riders the control they need over all types of terrain.
The more control we have over the design and development of each part of the bike, and the
more we can coordinate those designs, the better we can make anyone’s next ride. For 2010
our systems approach to design has allowed us to make the Stumpjumper both the lightest
bike in its class and the leader in steering precision. To achieve this, we tune the FACT carbon
frame design and lay-up, match the fork and shock’s rear spring and damping rates and integrate the design of the FACT carbon crank for lower weight and unbeatable stiffness.
By active, we mean that the suspension is always free to respond to the terrain. By independent, we mean that nothing—not chain load, brake forces or anything else—has an effect on
rear suspension motion or pedal stroke.
For the rider, this means more traction for increased control, more comfort and less fatigue and
more efficiency because all the torque you put into the chain moves you forward, not up and down.
B=B/: ACA>3<A7=< 7<B35@/B7=<
TOTAL SUSPENSION INTEGRATION is the process of developing our forks,
shocks and frames from scratch to work together as a system—based on each
bike’s riding experience—in order to deliver the highest performance full suspension
bikes possible.

SPECIALIZED/FOX
AFR REAR SHOCK
S140TA
FORK
Our goal is to always create the best bike possible for any given experience—take trail riding, in this case. When it came time to build on the incredible success we’ve had improving
the Stumpjumper platform in recent years, we had some prototypes for a new shock and
turned to our longtime collaborator FOX Racing Shox to enhance the shock’s design and
manufacturing process to facilitate bringing these innovative shock to riders everywhere.
Our development team logged hour after hour of development time out on the trail to test
and revise the tuning and spring rate, ultimately using seven to eight different refinements
in the process.
Back in 2008, we introduced a Stumpjumper with our own integrated suspension fork—the
Future Shock S120. It worked better than any fork on any Stumpjumper we’d ever made, but
we knew we could do even better.
Mike “Mick” McAndrews and his team went back into the lab and added an extra 20mm of
travel, threw in ride height adjust and bumped up the performance of the damper by improving
the no fade sealed cartridge system.

The Stumpjumper’s new AFR shock continues to incorporate a unique damper design
with three distinct compression circuits: the Brain circuit, a user-adjustable low-speed
bypass port known as Brain Fade and a shim-controlled mid-speed circuit that provides
damping control when the shock is active.
LIGHTWEIGHT
With class-leading stiffness to weight, the 3.49pound fork combines a solid chassis with
an ultra sensitive air spring for an incredibly
light fork that lets the rider change direction
with ease.
TA (TRAVEL ADJUST)
Two different ride height options to suit the conditions of the trail: 140mm for downhill and
singletrack shredding or twist the knob to
lower the fork to 115mm, increasing climbing
and switchback manueverability.
DROPOUTS
Unique integrated dropout design and lowers on
the S140TA work with our Roval hub design to
increase stiffness without having to use a thruaxle. This gives the rider more steering precision
with less complexity and lighter weight.
TAPERED STEERER
The Future Shock lineup features tapered carbon crowns
and steerer tubes (1.125” to 1.5”) that provides greater
strength and stiffness with less weight.
BRAIN
Just like our rear shocks, the FlowControl Brain
in the S140TA fork boosts efficiency and control
by precisely and instantaneously reacting to varying
terrain.

MOUNTAIN CRANK
Last year, we integrated it into the design of the Epic to help Christoph Sauser win the Worlds.
We took everything we learned from the ground-breaking road version and threw it into a
mountain crank with the best stiffness-to-weight numbers on the market. Christoph showed us
his appreciation by winning a rainbow in his first outing on the bike. For 2010, we’ve integrate it
into the design of the Stumpjumper.
Like we said before, FSR is active. But you know from riding any of our bikes with a Brain that
they’ve been designed to offer amazing efficiency. How’s that work?
The Brain is smart enough to automatically and instantaneously transition between firm and
fully active shock settings based on the terrain being covered. That provides a faster, smoother, smarter ride everywhere the trail takes a rider.

BRAIN HOSE
It is vital that the Brain be near the rear axle for
ultimate sensitivity. The connection to the rear

ride. Made of high-quality braided steel and
guided with integrated mounts.

BALLAST
chainrings improve shifting speed and precision
Being able to differentiate between bumps on the
ground and the rider on the saddle is the job of
the Brain. When there are no bumps, riders have
a firm pedaling platform because the flow ports
are covered by the ballast. After hitting a bump,
the ballast moves to allow oil flow for fully active
suspension.
IFP (INTERNAL FLOATING PISTON)
A true XC rider will want pedaling efficiency but also
the opportunity to air out a jump or drop. The IFP
seperates a nitrogen charge from the oil-filled
chamber and helps prevent bottom out.

E160TA
FORK
FOX RP23BV
REAR SHOCK
The new Specialized E160TA fork features the lowest weight in its class, precise handling and
the most effective bump-force management available.
This year, we were stoked to team up with FOX Racing Shox to offer a completely custom tuned
version of their RP rear shock—featuring new Boost Valve technology—across the Enduro line.
THE DETAILS:
We’ve been working with FOX since last year on a version of the RP rear shock built just for
the Enduro in order to truly custom tune the performance of their Boost Valve to match the
Spike Valve technology in our E160TA fork. Boost Valve and Spike Valve are two entirely

TA (TRAVEL ADJUST)
Max travel sits at 160mm for those fast and bumpy
singletrack downhills. Crank the TA and the
travel reduces to 125mm, increasing the agility
and climbing ability of the new Enduro.
CUSTOM TUNE
We teamed up with FOX Racing to tune the RP23BV to work
perfectly with the 2010 Enduro. Custom keyed to work
with our new linkage, yet still super light and featuring
full adjustability, the RP23BV is the perfect partner for the
demands of All Mountain riding. We’ve tuned the shock
to match the kinematics of the Enduro’s linkage and the
E160TA’s Spike Valve for a truly balanced bicycle.
STANCHIONS
Larger, stiffer 34mm stanchions for maximum control in
the rocky, rooty, twisty situations.
AIR SLEEVE
A high volume air sleeve gives the RP23BV a supple feel
and linear rate while remaining extremely light.
LOWERS
Super stiff and light magnesium lowers with post
mounts makes it simple to slap an 8 inch rotor
on for more stopping power.
TAPERED STEERER
BOOST VALVE
1.125”-1.5” carbon steerer - All new layup to handle the
rigors of All Mountain riding while still leading the
charge on weight and stiffness.
FOX’s new position-sensitive damping, the Boost Valve
works with FOX’s proven ProPedal tuning to give a firm
pedaling platform at the beginning of the stroke, as well
as deep into the travel for a bottomless feel.
SPIKE VALVE
The Spike Valve is for the big rocks and
drops. Oil needs to flow at a rapid
rate without damaging the internals
of the fork. The Spike Valve opens
during huge hits and allows oil to
dump at a high rate to maintain a
consistent feeling fork that can take
tons of abuse.
$
MAXLE
20mm Maxle makes it easy to remove
the front wheel while offering loads
of stiffness at low weight.
PROPEDAL
REBOUND
ProPedal gives the rider a variety of compression tuning
options. Choose between fully open or three settings of
the ProPedal to get the ideal feel, no matter the terrain.
The speed-sensitive shimmed rebound control
gives a huge range of adjustment so the rider
can tune their ride, no matter their size or
riding style.

SPECIALIZED 29er
BENEFITS
All the benefits of bigger wheels, with all the tech you can’t get anywhere else. Thanks to
the work we’ve done with a range of riders including Todd Wells, Conrad Stoltz and the
guys at local Specialized dealers, we’re proud to bring you the most evolved 29er line-up
on the planet.
THE BENEFITS OF 29-INCH WHEELS:
THE BENEFITS OF SPECIALIZED 29ERS:
Faster Rolling:INCHWHEELSMAINTAINSPEEDMOMENTUMMUCH
better than 26-inch wheeled bikes. This is a great advantage when
riding on rolling terrain and flat terrain.
All of our 29er frames are purpose built from the most advanced and
proven designs in the industry. Our Stumpjumper HT, Stumpjumper
FSR and Epic FSR are the best hardtail and full-suspension bikes
available, which is why we chose to use these time-tested designs as
the backbone to our 29-inch line-up.
Smoother Riding: The larger diameter of 29-inch wheels helps
smooth out the ride of any bike.
Increased Control: A combination of a decreased angle of attack
and increased wheel diameter work together to provide a synergy of
increased control and confidence. Increased wheel diameter also allows
the bike to stay on top of the terrain and “float” rather than sink into it.
Enhanced Traction: 29ers climb well in loose, rocky or sandy
TERRAIN4HELARGERDIAMETEROFTHEINCHWHEELINCREASESTHE@SLIP
point’ of the tire. This allows the rider to use less energy and maintain
a smooth cadence in loose, rocky conditions. The larger wheels also
don’t get as easily hung up on ledges or shelves.
Increased Bottom Bracket Drop: Rider’s weight is lower in the bike
in relation to the front axle when compared to a 26-inch bike, so it
FEELSLIKETHERIDERISSITTINGLOWER@INTHEBIKE
Our 29er platforms were built with the specific purpose of being a
29er. Our goal was to use what we know about suspension design,
pedaling efficiency and bump performance and optimize that for the
29-inch wheels. Our 29er bikes extrapolate all of the performance
benefits of the 29-inch wheels without any sacrifices.
All Specialized 29er bikes feature the signature Specialized technology, such as FSR suspension, Brain technology, Fact carbon, M5
alloy and cold forgings.
Our Epic and Stumpjumper 29er bikes feature 1.5”-1.125” tapered
head tubes for increased front end stiffness and control. 29er forks
are longer and place much more leverage and load on the front end
of the bicycle. This feature is unique to our 29ers, as their 26” alloy
counterparts don’t have it.

METATARSAL BUTTON
The Problem: Cyclists often experience “hot spots” or numbness
in the forefoot while riding, due to the fact that a snug shoe can
lead to the compression of nerves and arteries in between the

The Solution: The Metatarsal Button in our BG shoes works
against this problem by lifting and separating the metatarsals to
eliminate related compression and discomfort.

BODY GEOMETRY® SADDLES:
MEDICALLY TESTED, SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN
ERGO SADDLE DESIGNS PREVENT PRESSURE,

Where traditional saddles can cause soreness and numbness from
excess pressure on sensitive nerves and arteries during your ride,
Body Geometry designs have the power to reduce or eliminate the
problem altogether.
Medical doctor and ergonomic designer Roger Minkow was the
FIRSTPERSONTOPRESENTSOLUTIONSFORSADDLEPRESSUREDYSFUNCtion, and he helped us develop the specific shapes, contours and
cutouts you’ll find in our saddles today. Through tests with internationally respected urologist Dr. Frank Sommer, studies at the
Boulder Center for Sports Medicine (BCSM) and in-house blood
flow testing at SBCU, Dr. Minkow has validated the health benefits
of our BG saddles … precisely why we call them “medically tested
and scientifically proven.”

Problem: Female riders are subject to the same blood flow issues
as men, as well as direct pressure on their perineal regions, which
can cause urinary and sexual dysfunction.
Solution: Pressure mapping at the Boulder Center for Sports
Medicine helped us design BG women’s saddles with a central
cutaway and beveled foam contours that measurably reduce
unwanted pressure and improve blood flow.

DIFFERENT WIDTHS FOR DIFFERENT RIDERS
MEN’S SADDLES
Problem: The pressure conventional saddles put on men’s pudendal nerves and arteries reduces penile blood flow within just a few
minutes on the bike. Reduced blood flow has been linked to ED in
numerous medical studies.
Solution: Blood flow testing helped us design Body Geometry
men’s saddles that cut away a precise center section of the saddle
to greatly reduce pressure. All BG saddles have been tested
and proven to provide a safe level of blood flow.
Since everyone’s anatomy is a little different, no two pairs of sit
bones are the same. Narrow saddles don’t necessarily work best
for smaller riders, wider saddles for larger riders, and so on. Even
the difference in sit bone width when riding in an upright or aero
position is significant. Because of this natural variation, the only
way to determine the right saddle width is to measure the distance
between a rider’s sit bones (ischial tuberosities) and its relation to
their positioning.
HIGH PERFORMANCE MTB/ROAD:
Minimalist road or MTB. A favorite of Marathon World Champion
Christoph Sauser, with recessed scuff guards for snag-free
racing and a slightly downturned perch for seated climbing.
FEATURES:
Our Body Geometry® Saddle Fit System does just that. This
simple tool delivers an accurate reading of the rider’s sit bone
width and takes the guess-work out of saddle sizing. Since preferences will vary depending on the type of rider, we supply both
performance-oriented saddles in sizes 130, 143 and 155 and
comfort-oriented saddles in sizes 143, 155 and 175. The rider can
either go through a complete BG FIT or just choose to measure
their saddle size.

For aggressive trail riders who aren’t afraid to take risks and

mountain, without compromising low weight.
Gravity’s nemesis on the mountain, the XC-inclined Roval Control
SL is even lighter than our original weight-comes-first Control,
but an oversized axle makes it stiff enough for the rough stuff.
Also inclined toward XC racing, this highly durable version of
our Control EL gives you all the performance you’d expect from
Roval mountain wheels, at a value that’ll make any rider smile.
We took our light and proven Control EL and made the best 29”
wheel available to the masses.

OPTICS
TECH
CHANGE YOUR EYEWEAR, NOT YOUR LENSES.
Cycling-specific optics have to work just as hard as you do on the
bike. That’s why Specialized designers and engineers have spent
countless hours in the lab pioneering lens technology that does
it all while looking good and feeling good at the same time. From
Adaptalite® photochromic all-in-one lenses to carefully tuned pantoscopic angles and shatterproof NXT material, our eyewear delivers peak optical performance, no questions asked.
ADAPTALITE® PHOTOCHROMIC LENSES
As pioneers of Adaptalite photochromic lens technology—lenses
that automatically darken or lighten in response to UV conditions—
Specialized offers an ever-growing line of light-sensing optics with
a wide tint range, quick color shift, 100% UVA and UVB protection and unsurpassed optical clarity.
Both our mountain and road lens formulas have been optimized
for their unique environments. Each covers a different light range:
The amber-tinted mountain lens has a lighter range that’s developed to enhance trail contours in mixed light conditions, while the
copper-tinted road lens has a darker range designed to provide
enhanced color recognition.
NON-SHIFTING, FIXED TINT LENSES
Many of our models are also offered in fixed-tint versions.
The lenses in these models match the darkened state of their
Adaptalite cousins and still provide the unique performance and
protection benefits found throughout the entire line. These models
still retain customized lens formulations (12% light transmission

weight and optical clarity.
SHATTERPROOF NXT MATERIAL
All Specialized lenses (Adaptalite and non-photochromic) are
made using NXT material—a revolutionary, unbreakable optical
polymer that is 10-20% lighter than other lens materials. Originally
developed for bulletproof applications, NXT is optically superior,
lighter and more shatterproof than any polycarbonate lens.
PANTOSCOPIC ANGLES
Specialized optics are called cycling-specific for a reason—their
specially designed pantoscopic angles let you see the peripheral
and all the way down the road or trail because, let’s face it, an
average field of vision just won’t cut it in this sport.

Specialized frames and lenses have been engineered for optimal
airflow and coverage to prevent fogging, while still ensuring full
wind protection.

and women’s. The goal for our women’s products is to create the best bikes and equipment for
women based on their anatomy and the way they ride. In other words, really researching and
discovering the ways we can make the biggest difference in the quality of her ride.
When it comes to bikes, this means things like custom women’s geometry, tube sets and
specific carbon lay-ups. And in terms of equipment, it’s creating shoes that use a women’s last,
apparel with patterns and cuts that fit women’s curves and saddles that are designed around
a woman’s sit bones and anatomical form. It isn’t a Specialized women’s product unless it’s
100% optimized for women’s standards, needs and riding styles.

FOR THE CURE
SPECIALIZED BICYCLE COMPONENTS IS PROUD TO BE
PARTNERED WITH SUSAN G. KOMEN FOR THE CURE® TO
AID IN THE FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER.
At Specialized, we are committed to addressing issues that affect women’s lives. Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women today, affecting one out of every eight females.
Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest and most progressive grassroots network
of breast cancer survivors and activitists working to achieve the vision of a world without
breast cancer. In addition, the organization is the world’s largest source of non-profit funds
dedicated to the fight against breast cancer.
We know that fitness plays an important role in helping to fight breast cancer, and regular
physical activity, like riding a bike, may reduce one’s risk of developing this disease. Because
of this, Specialized has teamed up with Susan G. Komen for the Cure by actively sponsoring
“for the Cure” events, as well as offering limited edition bikes and equipment with a portion of
the proceeds going directly to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. We want to encourage women to
get out and ride, and at the same time, donate to this significant cause.
Specialized Limited Edition Komen products are not only designed and developed for the
needs of female riders, but 10% of the wholesale price of each of these items will be donated
by Specialized to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Specialized is excited to be donating a minimum of $200,000 this year to the Komen
