UMBRIA Varietals SANGIOVESE UMBRIA INDICAZIONE GEOGRAFICA PROTETTA Red wine | 2011 THE GRAPES AND THE VINEYARDS The quality of red wines in Umbria is a real breakthrough. They are the evidence of how these hills represent a splendid and variegated show-case of wine in all its diverse and foremost aspects. Sangiovese is the varietal making up this wine. The vines planted in 1991 in a clay and calcareous soil composition with south, southwest exposure. THE VINIFICATION The vinification process includes a long maceration on the skins at 28°C with horizontal pressing. The ageing takes place in barriques for 3 months followed by an additional short time in bottle prior to release from the winery. THE WINE This Sangiovese is intense and bright ruby red in colour with aromas of ripe cherry and strawberry. The excellent balance between fruit and acidity and the slightly spicy notes on the finish are the unmistakable hallmarks of this wine. The soft and silky tannins frame the pleasant texture of this pure Sangiovese.
