Also our standing as a school amongst international educators has seen a marked increase, as was witnessed by the overwhelming numbers of applications from teachers to join ASM this year. As the ASM community sees and experiences these improvements firsthand, it has expressed its desire for even further investment in teachers, facilities, programs and equipment in order to ensure that our students receive the very best American-international education in order to equip them for this 21st century learning environment. In order to achieve this, the Board of Trustees is implementing a Development Program, which will be a long-term commitment to: ✴ Advancing the Mission of the school MAY 13 BOARD MEETING 7:00 pm ✴ Fundraising MAY 19 PTO MEETING 9:30 am ✴ Building relationships between the school and its supporters (current families, alumni and outside organizations) Maria Chizzali [email protected] ✴ Communications and publications Page 1 ASM NEWSLETTER MARCH 2010 VOLUME 12 ISSUE 4 MAY 26 PTO GOODBYE WORKSHOP 9:30 am - 12:30 pm MAY 28 PTO TEACHER & STAFFT APPRECIATION LUNCHEON MAY 31 - JUNE 4 SPRING BOOK FAIR JUNE 2 NO SCHOOL JUNE 3 GENERAL ASSEMBLY First call: 7:30 pm Second call: 7:45 pm Please see newsletter sections for ES/MS/HS specific dates. Soon you will be hearing of new initiatives from the Advancement Office, many of which will be centered on our new Annual Fund program, which will officially launch next fall. The opportunity is the annual election for the membership to the ASM Board of Trustees. This year’s election will be held during the Thursday, June 03, 2010 General Assembly Meeting. PTO International Night Raffle Coordinators Ana Maria Di Carlo Antonella Guarnieri Maria Chizzali [email protected] Page 7 ASM NEWSLETTER MARCH 2010 VOLUME 12 ISSUE 4 Dear ASM Community, Due to the efforts of our students and the generous contributions of the entire ASM community, we have been able to raise nearly 2,000 euro for Fondazione Francesca Rava’s relief efforts in Haiti. Furthermore, the texta-thon to benefit the Italian Red Cross was extremely successful with nearly all students in the Upper School participating. I even witnessed a few students texting as many as 7 times during the event, instantly raising 14 euro for the Red Cross! Many different groups and individuals organized events for fundraising as well. The letter writing campaign was organized by grade 8 students Hiyori Takashima and Valentina Antollini, while bake sales were organized and promoted by students in the senior class, as well as Ms. Gomez’s Upper School class. As part of the elementary school’s 100th day of school celebration, Ms. Cassity’s kindergarten class helped start the collection of relief supplies to be sent to Haiti. Each grade level brought in 100 items, such as school supplies, toothbrushes and other essential products, which are greatly needed in Haiti after the earthquake. In all, over 700 items were collected and will be sent to help in the humanitarian aid effort. And we are not done yet. National Honor Society students in the High School will be hosting their annual dinner and talent show with all proceeds going to Fondazione Francesca Rava on April 13th. Details will be sent out in the next few weeks about how to purchase tickets for this great event. Thank you for everyone’s efforts and contributions in helping those affected by this terrible disaster in Haiti. Our efforts demonstrate, once again, what we can accomplish as a school community when we all pull together for a common cause.
