L’Orso Baloo è forse uno dei personaggi più riconoscibili nel
ricco repertorio disneyano, e la famosa “The Bare Necessities” il testo originale della canzone gioca sull’omofonia Bare / Bear
“lo stretto indispensabile / l’orso” - racconta con scanzonato
swing la sua visione della vita e di come sia importante
assecondare i bisogni primari.
Fortunatamente il jazz, così come nel divertentissimo brano
cantato da Baloo e Mowgli nel libro della Jungla, è parte
integrante del nostro quotidiano, nelle varie sue forme, tanto da
essere considerato da molti di noi un bisogno primario.
L’edizione numero quindici del Garda Jazz Festival vuole
enfatizzare l’idea del bisogno di musica per stare meglio con se
stessi, per stare bene anche con gli altri: l’immagine del “nostro”
Orso trentino, amato o bistrattato, a seconda dei punti di vista,
è simbolo di una ricerca di equilibrio e di bellezza, a volte
inquieta, a volte spensierata, ma sempre frutto di una lucida
creatività.
Nelle quattordici serate che comporranno il programma
principale del Festival, accanto a una grande varietà di stili e
proposte, così come da tradizione, e a un parterre di artisti di
spessore internazionale, si trovano tanti sogni, tante narrazioni,
a volte leggere, a volte di intensa drammaticità, ma che lasciano
all’ascoltatore segni indelebili di grande ricchezza culturale e
spirituale.
Baloo the bear is maybe one of the most recognizable Disney
characters, and the famous “The Bare Necessities” – the song’s
lyrics play on the homophony between ‘Bare’, the strictly
necessary, and ‘Bear’, the animal – describes Baloo’s vision of life
with light-hearted swing, and tells how important it is for him to
satisfy one’s basic needs.
Luckily jazz music, as it is in the amusing song by Baloo and
Mowgli in The Jungle Book, is an integral part of our everyday life
in its various forms, so much that many of us see it as a basic need.
The fifteenth edition of Garda Jazz Festival wants to highlight the
idea that we need music in order to feel better with ourselves, and
to feel good with others, too. The image of “our” bear here in
Trentino, either loved or loathed depending on the point of view, is
the symbol of a search for balance and beauty, sometimes
troubled and sometimes carefree, but always a result of a bright
creativity.
Besides offering a wide variety of styles and proposals and
staging artists of international prestige, during the fourteen
evening events that make up the main Garda Jazz Festival
program, there will be room for dreams and narrations,
sometimes light-hearted, sometimes intensely dramatic, all of
which will enrich the listener with unforgettable memories of
great cultural and spiritual value.

accordion’s Concept”, lavoro di grande fascino e suggestione
che pone il fisarmonicista fra i grandi e più innovativi del
panorama internazionale: ai momenti di improvvisazione
estemporanea alterna delle proprie composizioni e brani di
grandi compositori quali George Gershwin, Charly Parker, Duke
Ellington, in un costante flusso creativo e improvvisativo
magistralmente ispirato.
Diplomato con lode in fisarmonica classica al Conservatorio
“G.Rossini” di Pesaro, la sua attività concertistica e di
registrazione spazia ad ampio raggio fra improvvisazione,
musica contemporanea, jazz e classica. Fra le molte registrazioni
discografiche del 2006 Bebop Buffet (Wide Sound) in duo con
Frank Marocco, nel 2009 Meglio solo! (Silta Records) e Fuga per

“I always thought that some musical hums living in our head are
just ours, gloriously unique, and can be conveyed only through the
emotions of improvisation…” This is how Simone Zanchini
presents his “My accordion’s Concept”, a work of great fascination
and evocative power, placing the accordionist amongst the great
and most innovative artists on the international scene. He
alternates moments of improvised performance with his own
compositions and pieces of great composers such as George
Gershwin, Charly Parker and Duke Ellington, in a constant,
masterfully inspired creative and improvisational flow.
Graduated cum laude in classical accordion from the
Conservatory “G. Rossini” of Pesaro, his concert activity and
recordings range from improvisation, contemporary music, jazz
and classical music. Among the many recordings of 2006, Bebop
Buffet (Wide Sound) in a duo with Frank Marocco, in 2009 Meglio
solo! (Silta Records) and Fuga per Art 5et (Dodici Lune Records), in

Talento poliedrico, artista dalle vene creative che intrecciano
stili diversi, Daniele Bonaviri presenta al Garda Jazz un
repertorio di brani originali creati attraverso un lungo
percorso professionale e di ricerca artistica: la fusione di
Flamenco, Jazz e Latino, su una sensibilità di base classica,
rende la sua musica raffinata e originale.
Sono moltissime le collaborazioni artistiche e di alto
prestigio nel corso della sua intensa carriera, fra le quali
spiccano quelle con Gino Vannelli, Pino Daniele, Luciano
Pavarotti, Stefano di Battista, Louis Bakalov, Nicola Piovani,
oltre ad aver aperto concerti per Michael Brecker, Vicente
Amigo, Ray Cooder, Aco Bocina, Manolo Sanlucar.
Più recentemente ha partecipato allo spettacolo di Beppe
Fiorello, iniziando contestualmente il suo percorso di fusione
Flamenco latin e Jazz con il violinista e poli strumentista Juan
Carlos Albelo Zamora formando il gruppo Diadema. Accanto
a lui al Garda Jazz il percussionista Gabriele Gagliarini,
travolgente e raffinato percussionista di flamenco e
particolarmente apprezzato nel suggestivo e ampio mondo
delle percussioni Mediterranee.

Daniele Bonaviri is a multi-talented, creative artist who
embodies different styles, and in this year’s edition he will
present a repertoire of original pieces created during a long
career and artistic research. A fusion of Flamenco, Jazz and
Latin sounds combined with a classical sensitivity make his
music refined and original.
Many have been the prestigious artistic collaborations in his
intense career, including Gino Vannelli, Pino Daniele, Luciano
Pavarotti, Stefano di Battista, Louis Bakalov, Nicola Piovani,
besides opening concerts of Michael Brecker, Vicente Amigo,
Ray Cooder, Aco Bocina, Manolo Sanlucar.
More recently Bonaviri took part in Beppe Fiorello’s
performance, simultaneously starting a path leading him to the
of fusion of Flamenco, Latin and Jazz with the violinist and
multi-instrumentalist Juan Carlos Albelo Zamora, forming the
group “Diadema”. Playing at his side during the Garda Jazz
Festival there will be the percussionist Gabriele Gagliarini,
passionate and sophisticated flamenco percussionist,
particularly appreciated in the evocative wide world of
Mediterranean percussions.

conosciuto in tutto il mondo per esser stato membro della band
del grande James Brown per 15 anni e per aver lavorato

come Michel Jackson. Ora è in perpetuo tour in giro per il

Waldo Weathers is an artist in the true sense of the word. He is
known all over the world for being a member of the great James
Brown’s band for over 15 years, for having worked besides

Jackson. Waldo is now touring the world with his own projects,
showing off the qualities of an exuberant leader with an
overwhelming appeal. He offers unforgettable performances to

“At the end of the day è la sera in lontananza; in uno spazio in
bilico tra ieri e domani sussurra canti di una voce dimenticata...”.
Il secondo lavoro da solista di Federico Casagrande, giovane e
talentuoso artista trevigiano trapiantato a Parigi, raccoglie
sentori e rimembranze della musica classica, jazz, folk, per una
percorso sonoro che affascina e avvolge gli ascoltatori più
diversi.
Premiato in numerosi concorsi e riconoscimenti importanti - nel
2001 ad Umbria Jazz, nel 2004 al Berklee College, nel 2007 il
Primo premio al Gibson Montreux Jazz Festival Competition,
dopo gli studi classici continua al Berklee College of Music di
Boston dove si laurea summa con laude nel 2006. Ha già al suo
attivo una decina di registrazioni, oltre ai soli, ed è co-leader con
Christophe Panzani del gruppo The Drops, di cui sono usciti tre
album. Nel 2012 esce il suo disco in quartetto “The Ancient
Battle of the Invisible”, prodotto da CamJazz. Per la stessa
etichetta “At the End of the Day” nel 2014 e “Double Circle” nel
2015, quest’ultimo in duo con il pianista Enrico Pieranunzi. Si è
esibito in solo e con varie formazioni nei più importanti Festival
in Nord America, Europa, e Asia.
“At the end of the day is the approaching evening; in a space
suspended between yesterday and tomorrow, it whispers chants of
a forgotten voice...”. The second solo work of Federico
Casagrande, young and talented artist who moved to Paris from
Treviso, collects notes and recollections of classical music, jazz and
folk, a sound able to attract and engage even the most diverse
listeners.
Prize-winner of many competitions and important recognitions –
in 2001 at Umbria Jazz, in 2004 at Berklee College, in 2007 he
won the first prize at the Gibson Montreux Jazz Festival
Competition – after studying humanities he continued at the
Berklee College of Music in Boston, graduating cum laude in 2006.
He has already completed about ten recordings in addition to the
solos, and together with Christophe Panzani he is the co-leader of
“The Drops”, a group who has already released three albums. In
2012 his album in quartet “The Ancient Battle of the Invisible” was
released, produced by CamJazz. For the same label were released
“At the End of the Day” in 2014 and “Double Circle” in 2015, the

Dopo dieci anni, ancora giovanissima, Karima è riuscita a
coronare il suo sogno e ad avere il privilegio di poter
collaborare con il grande Maestro, a Los Angeles, proprio a casa

dall’amore di Karima per questo immenso Artista che ha
regalato sogni e momenti meravigliosi a tutto il mondo. Il suo
lavoro racconta, attraverso i più grandi successi di Bacharach e

emozioni di una giovane artista.
Karima, nota per i successi televisivi e al Festival di Sanremo in
qualità di cantante pop, ha maturato una forte sensibilità verso
il jazz, e questo nuovo album ne segna chiaramente la svolta
creativa. Al suo fianco quattro jazzisti d’eccellenza, Pietro Frassi,
Max Ionata, Francesco Puglisi e Lorenzo Tucci, con alle spalle già
un’importante carriera di solisti e sidemen.

After ten years, still very young, Karima’s dream came true as
she had the privilege to collaborate with the great Bacharach

love of Karima for this immense Artist, who has bestowed the
world with so many dreams and magical moments. Through
Bacharach’s biggest music hits and some lesser known yet
extremely compelling songs, Karima’s work narrates the
emotions of a young artist.
Known for her television successes and as a pop singer after
participating in the Sanremo Festival, Karima developed a strong
sensitivity towards jazz, and her new album clearly marks this
creative breakthrough. Four jazz musicians of excellence will play
at her side: Pietro Frassi, Max Ionata, Francesco Puglisi and
Lorenzo Tucci, who already have an established career as soloists
and sidemen.

Nel centenario dalla nascita (1915 – 2015) gli studi e gli
approfondimenti sulla figura, il ruolo e l’arte di Billy Strayhorn
hanno trovato maggiore voce.
L’attività di Strayhorn nella compagine ellingtoniana si svolse nei
ruoli di compositore, arrangiatore e pianista, ed Ellington non
nascose mai la sua ammirazione e gratitudine esprimendola
nella sua celebre autobiografia Music Is My Mistress (1973).
In questo album l’ensemble N.P. Stray Horns incontra la musica
di Strayhorn, rileggendo alcuni capolavori della sua produzione
attraverso gli eccellenti arrangiamenti realizzati dai diversi
musicisti dell’ensemble.
L’associazione New Project coinvolge i migliori esponenti del
Jazz che operano in Trentino Alto-Adige, ed è fucina di
moltissimi progetti e registrazioni discografiche.

On the hundredth anniversary of Billy Strayhorn’s birth (1915 –
2015), research and in-depth studies on his persona, role and art
have found increased resonance.
In Ellington’s ensemble Strayhorn was a composer, arranger and
pianist. Ellington never hid his admiration and gratitude towards
him, expressing it in his famous autobiography Music Is My
Mistress (1973).
In this album, the ensemble New Project Stray Horns meets
Strayhorn’s music, reviving some of his masterpieces through the
excellent arrangements made by the group’s different musicians.
The band involves the best jazz musicians in Trentino Alto-Adige,
and is a hotbed of numerous projects and recordings.

Helga Plankensteiner è una vulcanica musicista, molto

Helga Plankensteiner is a volcanic musician, renowned for her
energy and excellent improvisation skills. At Garda Jazz 2015 she
will present her new CD “Revensch”, by the name of her
accompanying band. The repertoire entails Klezmer, BalkanJazz,
Dixieland tunes and Chansons of the 20s, classics such as "Smile"
by Charlie Chaplin, the "Moritat" by Kurt Weill and songs of

RJD Power Collective è un ensemble funk-blues nato
all’interno dei corsi jazz del Conservatorio “F. Venezze” di
Rovigo, diretto e coordinato dal compianto Marco Tamburini,
capo dipartimento, trombettista e grandissimo artista,
scomparso recentemente. L’esperienza fatta durante i vari
Festivals, in particolare il Festival “Delta Blues”, ha portato il
gruppo a collaborare con molti artisti italiani ed internazionali
tra cui Gegè Telesforo, Charlie Wood, Joyce E. Yuille e Linda
Valori. Il repertorio che presentano in concerto, spazia dai
grandi classici del blues, a successi discografici di livello
mondiale, riarrangiati con l’apporto anche degli stessi studenti.
Solida base ritmica con l’aggiunta della sezione fiati e della
voce, che donano al progetto un sound molto accattivante e
personale. L’uso dell’elettronica e di loops, valorizzano
ulteriormente la proposta musicale. La direzione del gruppo è
affidata al docente di Batteria Jazz (Stefano Paolini) ed al
docente di Trombone & Musica d’Insieme (Massimo Morganti)
del dipartimento Jazz di Rovigo.

RJD Power Collective is a funk-blues ensemble born inside the
jazz courses of the “F. Venezze” Conservatoire of Rovigo, directed
and coordinated by the dear departed Marco Tamburini, head of
department, trumpeter and great artist, who recently passed
away. The experience gained during the various festivals,
especially the “Delta Blues”, prompted a collaboration with many
Italian and international artists such as Gegè Telesforo, Charlie
Wood, Joyce E. Yuille and Linda Valori. The repertoire for their
concerts ranges from the great classics of blues to worldwide hits,
rearranged with the contribution of the students themselves. A
solid rhythm section with the addition of wind section and voice
give the project a very captivating and personal sound.
Electronics and loops further enhance the music proposal. The
group conductors are Stefano Paolini, professor of Jazz Drums,
Massimo Morganti professor of Trombone & Ensemble music of
the Jazz department of Rovigo.

può permettere di stare ancora vicino a lui, è fare ciò che più
amava, suonare, portare avanti la propria musica. Ecco, è così
che noi vogliamo proseguire il suo messaggio, suonando e
cercando di farlo nel modo più sincero, così come sincero e
molto emozionato sarà il nostro omaggio al nostro caro amico

Il Garda Jazz Festival si unisce al ricordo del compianto Marco

Alma Swing recepisce una tradizione tipicamente europea,
quale è stata tra gli anni Trenta e Quaranta, ed è tutt’oggi, l’hot
jazz contaminato dalla cultura nomade manouche, dalla
mondanità parigina e dalla swing craze afro-americana. Con la
silhouette dell’orchestra rétro e un organico acustico in cui sono
protagonisti le tipiche chitarre manouche ed il violino, Alma
Swing interpreta le suggestioni di un'epoca impresse nel vinile e
nella voce dei grammofoni. Alma Swing si afferma rapidamente
emergendo in importanti apparizioni e selezioni: non ultima la
vittoria riportata nel concorso "Porsche Live - Giovani e Jazz"
patrocinato da Porsche Italia, Radio Montecarlo e dalla rivista
Musica Jazz, di fronte ad una giuria di selezionatori presieduta
da Paolo Fresu.
Nella consuetudine più classica dell'Hot Club De France, Alma
Swing realizza uno spettacolo attingendo al repertorio di
Django Reinhardt e Stéphane Grappelli, alla canzone del teatro
musicale americano anni '30 e '40, agli standards jazz di
tradizione new-orleansiana fino alla chansonne francese e al
repertorio della nuova generazione di interpreti del genere.
Alma Swing follows a typically European tradition, which was between the Thirties and Forties, as still today - hot jazz
contaminated by the Manouche nomad culture, the Parisian
mundanity and the Afro-american swing craze. Configured as a
retro, acoustic orchestra, where the protagonists are the typical
Manouche guitars and the violin, Alma Swing reinterprets the
suggestions of an era captured in vinyl and in the voice of
gramophones. The group rapidly affirmed itself by standing out
in important appearances and selections, also winning the
contest “Porsche Live – Giovani e Jazz” sponsored by Porsche
Italy, Radio Montecarlo and Musica Jazz magazine, in front of a
jury presided by Paolo Fresu.
In the more classical tradition of the Hot Club de France, Alma
Swing’s performance draws from the repertoire of Django
Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli, the music of the American
musical theatre of the 30s and 40s, the jazz standards of the
New-Orleans tradition, and from the French chanson and the
repertoire of the new generation of its interpreters.

piacevole messa in gioco di stilemi e
ambientazioni riesce a regalare un ascolto ricco di sorprese.
I musicisti che Grossi ha voluto al proprio fianco - il sassofonista
Andrea Pimazzoni, Premio Nazionale Massimo Urbani ed.
2005, giovane talento dalle straordinarie doti tecniche ed
espressive, e il batterista e compositore Nelide Bandello,
attivo con i migliori artisti del panorama jazzistico oltre che
compositore di musiche per readings e drammi teatrali interpretano con grande unità e sensibilità le sue idee musicali,

Andrea Pimazzoni, winner of the Massimo Urbani National
Award in 2005, young talent with extraordinary technical and
expressive skills, and the drummer and composer Nelide
Bandello, active with the best artists of the jazz scene and
composer of music for readings and theatrical dramas - interpret
his musical ideas with great unity and sensitivity, as a result of
many years of collaboration. The interplay becomes a perfect

suoi due album precedenti, Claudio Filippini realizza una

L’album è il frutto della rilettura di numerosi standard del
repertorio jazz statunitense, ricco di sfumature e di suggestioni,

l’amore per il jazz.
Nel 1998 la Sony pubblica il suo primo album, From There to
Here, un insieme di classici e composizioni jazz. Dopo aver
ottenuto un breve contratto con la Candid Records, Eastwood
firma con la Rendezvous, etichetta discografica di Dave Koz ,
con la quale pubblica i suoi due primi album come solista. Il
2009 è l'anno di Metropolitain. Kyle si avvale per quest'ultimo
album dell'aiuto dei musicisti francesi Eric Legnini al pianoforrte

Kyle Eastwood is a virtuoso of the double bass and a very
talented composer, considered by the critics to be one of the big
names of the contemporary scene. Son of the legendary actor
Clint Eastwood, he has inherited his father's love for jazz.

In 1999 the singer Daria Toffali founded the group Tempo Rei,
devoting to a careful study of the greatest Brazilian authors. Their
solid jazz background entwines knowledgeably with the Brazilian
universe. The elegance of their musical journey does not neglect the
main “Brazilian” component: the desire to have fun and entertain
the audience.

La tromba e il flicorno di Beppe Zorzella ricordano la calda
eleganza del fraseggio di Chet Baker che unita agli arrangiamenti
originali rende sempre attuali e moderni i classici standard della
tradizione musicale afroamericana.
Trumpet, guitar and bass reproduce the marvellous lyrics of the
great Chet Baker.
Beppe Zorzella’s trumpet and flugelhorn remind of the warm
elegance of Chet Baker’s phrasing. With the addition of original
arrangements, the classic standards of the Afro-american music
tradition are made modern and contemporary.

Durante il periodo del Festival alcune street band allieteranno le spiagge dell’Alto Garda.
During the Festival street band will perform on the northern beaches of Lake Garda.
