ans moins d'un an à
compter de ce numéro,
nous allons nous réunir
en France pour le Zaf mondial,
en particulier pour l'Assemblée
des Capitaines nationaux. Un
ordre du jour et les documents
habituels, nécessaires à ses délibérations, seront bientôt envoyés
aux Capitaines nationaux.
n less than one year from this
issue we will be gathering in
France for the World Zaf and
particularly the Assembly of
National Captains. An agenda
and the usual documents
necessary for deliberation will
soon be sent out to the National
Captains.
However, at this time, I would
like to bring your attention, for
thought, toward a new Idea. It is
the plight of the widows of our
departed Brothers. Too often
these Captives who have been
part of our fraternal family for
many years and dedicated to our
love of the sea are left to their
own devises. There is no doubt
that they are still very much a
part of our fraternity, and can
continue by their presence to
contribute to our Brotherhood far
into the future. By creating some
sort of status and guideline for
these widows we would ensure
that they who have given us so
much are not forgotten and lost in
the fog. Let us think about it.
There are certainly other
important questions that the
Captains will have to discuss and
we will return to them. But this
one holds dear in our hearts.

nouvelle: la condition des veuves de nos Frères partis pour
leur dernier voyage. Trop souvent, ces captives qui ont fait
partie, intimement et durant de
nombreuses années, de notre
fraternelle famille, qui ont partagé notre amour de la mer, sont
brutalement laissées seules, oubliées, exclues… Et pourtant, il
ne fait aucun doute qu'elles font
toujours partie de notre Confrérie et que, par leur présence,
elles peuvent continuer à contri-

attraverso alcune semplici regole
a loro favore, potremmo garantire

familia de Hermandad durante

nuestro amor por el mar, son

olvidadas,
excluidas... Y sin embargo, no
cabe duda de que todavía son
parte importante de nuestra
Hermandad y con su presencia,
pueden seguir contribuyendo a
nuestra Hermandad, hacia el
futuro. Mediante la creación de
una clase de estatus, utilizando
algunas reglas sencillas en su
favor, nos aseguramos de que
quienes han dado tanto, no sean
olvidados y perdidos en la
niebla.
Ciertamente que hay otras
preguntas importantes que
tendrán que discutir los
Capitanes, y regresaremos a
ellos. Pero esto está
particularmente cerca de
nuestros corazones.

Les Frères de France ont réussi à louer un 4e bateau qui portera la capacité du prochain Zaf mondial à 550 participants. Ajut, le Grand Frère de
France, va très prochainement s'adresser aux Capitaines nationaux pour leur donner toutes les explications nécessaires. Encore un peu de
patience, donc!

Los Hermanos de Francia han logrado conseguir
un 4to barco que aumentará la capacidad del Zaf.
Mundial 2014 a 550 participantes. El Gran
Hermano de Francia Ajut, muy pronto contactará
a los Capitanes Nacionales para entregarles
todas las explicaciones necesarias y tal vez
también, señalar los inconvenientes que se
podrían presentar. Tengan un poco de paciencia!

The French Brothers were able to lease a 4th
vessel, increasing the number attending the
World Zaf to 550. Ajut, the Grand Frere of France,
will soon contact the National Captains to give
them all the necessary information. So a little
more patience!

una 4° barca che porterà la capacità del prossimo
ZAF Mondiale a 550 partecipanti. Ajut, il Gran
Frère di Francia, si metterà presto in contatto con

GB
Although this is only a small
country, we have five Tables.
They are not hundreds of miles
apart, as are the Tables of our
Brothers in the USA or South
America, yet we do not meet up
with our neighbouring GB Tables
as often as perhaps we should.
For example, Solent Brothers are
more likely to visit Normandy or
Guernsey than to visit the Table
of East Anglia. Kent Invicta and
East Anglia are more likely to
visit Germany or Belgium than
visit Dorset Table. Relations are
always cordial and brotherly, but
tend to be distant.

don Greenwich Table are trying
to arrange a Sunday lunch in the
capital for all Freres de la
Cote(GB). This is not as simple as
it might appear because their Table members are scattered worldwide ( - including two who are
currently resident in Mongolia at
the moment!) A Grand Boucan is
being arranged by Kent Invicta
Table in October and this is attracting good support from GB
and overseas Tables.
Dorset and Solent have just held a
very splendid joint barbecue meeting at the Royal Dorset Yacht
Club in Weymouth.
The hosts turned up at near full
strength while twenty-two Solenteers arrived from Portsmouth
mob-handed. Backi and Uschi
Hartmuth-Becker from BerlinPotsdam Table, who were on holiday in the area also attended and
were warmly received in true
Brotherhood tradition.
The Royal Dorset Yacht Club laid
on a magnificent barbecue feast,
and very nearly managed to burn
down the club in the process.
This summer, Grand Freres of the
British Tables have made a special effort to visit their GB
neighbours.
For some reason, ( - and we can't
blame the English weather this
summer!), only two boats sailed
from Portsmouth to Weymouth..
The other Brothers arrived by car
or camper van.

Samedi 19 mai 2013, on se croirait en hiver, le thermomètre flirte
avec les basses, basses températures !
Départ de Breskens pour rejoindre
Nieupoort car ce sont les Frères
de cette table qui organisent le
branle-bas naviguant cette année.
Le vent est bien sûr dans la mauvaise direction, on tire des bords
dont certains sont inefficaces.
Oh! miracle le soleil montre son
existence, et le vent modifie positivement sa direction et nous naviguons bon plein vers notre destination.
Avec une cinquantaine de navires
et plus 220 participants notre
branle-bas s’annonce bien.
Superbe réception des Frères de
Nieupoort et nous recevons les
informations pour les joutes du
lendemain.
Dimanche 20 mai, après avoir
reçu les petits pains, chaque table
se prépare pour les festivités.
Le soleil s’invite à nos agapes. La
traditionnelle régate des sabots
voit les esquifs les plus divers,
depuis les embarcations sophistiquées jusqu’aux plus loufoques.
Ensuite chaque table se mesure
lors de la course des chaloupes,
pour enfin se départager par l’épreuve du tir à la corde.

URUGUAY
Para vuestro conocimiento y de
todas las demás Hermandades, les
comunico que con fecha 23 de
mayo de 2013, el Ministerio de
Educación y Cultura de Uruguay,
otorgó el reconocimiento de Personería Jurídica a la Asociación
Civil denominada HERMANDAD DE LA COSTA DEL URUGUAY.
Dicha resolución nos reconoce
personalidad como titular de derecho y obligaciones, nos permite
tener patrimonio propio, adquirir
bienes, abrir cuentas bancarias y
todas aquellas consecuencias legales derivadas de la existencia
legal.
La Régate des Sabots
En fin de journée, on connaît enfin la table qui a remporté les différentes compétitions.
La table de Zeebrugge est couronnée et qui plus est c’est elle qui
organisera la réunion en 2014.
Grand dîner sous tente où chacun
raconte ses aventures, certains
même jusqu’à l’aube.
Lundi 21 mai, crachin, fraîcheur
et visibilité limitée nous accompagnent pour rentrer et nous montre,
si nous ne le savions pas encore,
que les dieux sont avec les Frères.

también lo comunicaremos.

Hermandades, ya que hemos
dado cumplimiento a la resolución de la Asamblea Mundial

IRELAND
The Tables in Ireland have had a
very busy Summer, and it's not
finished yet.
The Northern Table had the Summer Boucan on InishBofin, off
the Coast of Connemara, on the
weekend of June 21 with a big
attendance, and joined by John
Coyle and Brian Lynch of the
Western Table sailing through a
gale on the Arctic Fern. The ar-
chaeologist Michael Gibbons
conducted a tour of the history
and botany of this extraordinary
island. The Autumn Boucan of
the Northern Table will be held
in Ardtara on November 9.

That same weekend the Southern
Table descended on Baltimore to
reenact the sack of the town by
Algerine pirates in 1638. By all
accounts they did a good job,
enjoyed by the natives. In the
West, Jamie Young sailed from
Killary Harbour around Greenland where they kayaked and
mountaineered. Jamie had kayaked around Tierra del Fuego a
few years ago. Jarlath Cunnane
has sailed to La Coruna to do the
Camino. Sailing from Dingle to
Coruna and walking the balance
is a recognised Camino from the
Middle Ages. His companion on
the NorthWest Passage Expedition of ten years ago, Michael
Brogan, organised the Cruinniu
na mBad in Kinvara, which is a
gathering of the traditional West
of Ireland sailing craft. Our Bosco, Sean O'Loughlin, with Brian
Lynch and Gery McGarry sailed
from Corunna to Alicante, where
they met up with John Killeen.
The most recent Western Frere,
Aodhan Fitzgerald, skippered the
winning Irish yacht in the Rolex
Fastnet Race and was presented
with the Joggernaut Trophy and
the Irish Cruising Club Silver
Salver. Other Freres cruised the
coasts of Ireland.
USA
US National Zaf
August 23-25
The US BOC held their Annual
National Zaf at Solomons Island,
MD. Over 100 Brothers attended
from Tables throughout the US.
The Solomons Island Table
hosted the event with much
revelry.
The Zaf started on Friday with a
pool-side reception. Brothers and
Captives from the US Tables
renewed old friendships and
struck up new ones while
enjoying superb weather, good
food and multiple Orzas!
Saturday the National Captains
met to discuss various topics
while others enjoyed the
Solomons Island scenery, most
notably by a cruise on an 1897
oyster boat which is typical to the
area. Saturday evening there was
a gathering at the waterfront
home of Brother Dale and
Captive Lauren Weems. One of
the highlights was the Annual
Solomons Island “End of
Summer Bash and Crab Races”
followed by a typical crab boil.
Novices to shelling and eating
crab were helped by the crabwise Brothers of the Chesapeake
area.

The next event is the Inauguration of the East Coast Table under Jasper Coyle on October 18
in the Natioanl Yacht Club, Dun
Laoire, Dublin at 7.30 pm. All

Barche del Solstizio che
quest’anno si è svolto nello
Ionio a Siracusa organizzato
d all’o mo ni ma T av o la al
comando del Luogotenente
Giusepp e Rapisarda, in
concomitanza
delle
rappresentazioni tenutesi nel
famoso teatro greco.

For nearly two years the
fledgling Sailing Capital Table
was mentored, indoctrinated and
supported by the Solomons
Island Table, with Brother Pete
Chabot (Sea Devil) as the
primary Mentor. The glorious
ceremony was attended by over
100 Brothers and Captives,
including SECOIN, Brother
Tony Olmer (Rascal),
International Vigie Brother Joe
Citarella (Sparks) and U.S.
National Captain Charles
Hankins (Oso). The induction
was conducted as the Solomons
Island Brothers presented six
Passajeros to be the Founding
Brothers of the new Table.
With all Brothers in full regalia,
replete with numerous cheers of
“ORZA!!”, cannon salutes and
toasts to our Brothers worldwide,
the Solomons Table Captain John
Craighill (Sea Hawk),
accompanied by Mentor Pete
Chabot and observed by Brothers
and Captives in attendance,
ITALIA
Arrival of Captain Hankins
Nella splendida cornice del
porto Piccolo, dove ha sede la
locale Sezione della L.N.I., il
fratello Maurilio Carpinteri,
(Toad), and Mattigan McMichael
(Wookie) was formally accepted
by National Captain Charles
Hankins.
This full weekend of activities
concluded with a Sunday brunch
during which Brothers and
Captives bid each other a fond
farewell. The Solomons Island
Brothers hosted an exceptional
Zaf in one of the best US boating
areas. ORZA!!
Great attendance in Anapolis
Scrivano della Tavola e Deus
ex Machina dell’organizzazione,
ha diretto gli attracchi delle
barche in arrivo da ogni parte
d’Italia da Porto Maurizio a
Trieste, da Cagliari a Punta Ala.
Appena sbarcati grandi saluti,
abbracci, chiacchere e tanta
simpatia e, sistemate le barche, si
va via per una prima visita della
città.
Nei due giorni seguenti lunghe
passeggiate per scoprire gli
angoli più suggestivi ed i
panorami ricchi di fascino, di
antichità, di storia , di arte e
delle attrazioni alimentari del
mercato all'aperto di Ortigia.

Con le sue fortificazioni, il
Tempio di Apollo, la Cattedrale,
la fonte Aretusa, i vicoli
animatissimi di Ortigia, il teatro
greco, le rovine romane, la città
solare,gli scorci sui due mari:
tutte attrazioni, in parte già
conosciute, che hanno riempito i
momenti liberi da impegni nautici
e personali.
Nella serata di venerd ì
partecipazione allo “Zaf di
Benvenuto” nel Roof Garden del
Mercure Siracusa Prometeo,
presentato dal Luogotenente
Giuseppe Rapisarda, animato ed
allegro in una cornice gradevole
e piena di empatia e di golpes de
cañon.
Sabato mattina la partecipazione
alla regata del XIII Trofeo
Challenger Fratelli della Costa
nel Porto Grande con una
partecipazione numerosa e
agguerrita e successiva sosta
balneare.
Sabato in serata al Teatro greco la
rappresentazione del dramma
“Edipo Re” di Sofocle in una
atmosfe ra sug ge stiva e
coinvolgente, sotto una splendida
luna piena.
A seguire lo Zaf principale
del
Raduno del Solstizio
tenutosi in un Hotel sulle rive
del
Porto
Grande,
coreograficamente piacevole e
molto animato,presenti moltissimi
Fratelli, Cautivas ed infiltrati, che
ha sollecitato frequenti golpes
de caño n sparati da
Luogotenenti e Maggiorenti delle
Tavole presenti. A conclusione
della serata la consegna dei
premi di partecipazione alla
regata e dei ricordi dell'evento,

effettuata dal Gran Commodoro
e dallo Scrivano Maggiore c he
ha motivato numerosi interventi
ed un plauso
finale per la
Tavola organizzatrice dell'evento.

Domenica 23 giugno in acqua
tutte le barche dei Fratelli e
degli
altri regatanti per la
partecipazione al XXVIII Trofeo
Lelio Carpinteri organizzato dalla
Sezione L.N.I. di Siracusa.
Due regate svoltesi nel Porto
Grande, una a bastone e l'altra
con percorso costiero,
che
hanno visto una partecipazione
numerosa e combattiva, con
p remiazione pomeridiana e
rinfresco nel Circolo L.N.I.,
presenti il Presidente della
Sezione ing.Amato e molti soci.
La giornata si è conclusa con uno
Zaf informale di chiusura per
quanti non eranoancora partiti,
te nutosi in
un
locale
caratteristico nel porto con un
gustoso menù di specialità locali
che ha rallegrato i presenti,
scate na nd o molte or ze di
ringraziamento e di augurio per un
ritrovarsi al prossimo Zaf del
Solstizio 2014
Lunedì di buon mattino molte
barche hanno lasciato gli ormeggi
per il rientro al proprio porto o per
proseguire una crociera già
iniziata.
Si è così conclusa questa
splendida manifestazione svoltasi
nel più puro spirito marinaresco
uniti dal profondo sentimento di
Fratellanza che ci accomuna.
L’appuntamento è per il prossimo
Solstizio questa volta in Tirreno.

El Tortuga Post es enviado libremente por Email a todos los Hermanos que se están inscritos en BOC-Lista. Las Hermandades nacionales están autorizadas para utilizarlo de acuerdo
a sus necesidades: copias, traducciones parciales, etc, con la condición sin embargo que
siempre se indique la fuente. Por su parte, los
Vigías internacionales comunicarán con uno u
otro de los redactores o a SECOIN las noticias
de su fraternidad. Estos comunicados serán
escritos en una de los cuatro idiomas oficiales
de la fraternidad, y no traducidos normalmente.
The Tortuga Post is sent free by e-mail to all
the Brothers who are on the BOC-List. The
national Brotherhoods are authorized to use it
to fit their needs: copies, partial translations,
etc., with the condition that the source always
be indicated. For their part, the International
Lookouts will communicate the news of their
Brotherhood to one of editors or to SECOIN.
These official news will be written in one of
the four official languages of the Brotherhood
and will normally not be translated.
The Tortuga Post est adressé gratuitement par
e-mail à tous les Frères qui figurent sur la
BOC-List. Les confréries nationales sont
autorisées à l'utiliser au mieux de leurs besoins: copies, traductions partielles, etc., à la
condition toutefois que la source soit toujours
indiquée. Pour leur part, les Vigies internationales communiqueront à l'un ou l'autre des
rédacteurs ou à SECOIN les nouvelles de leur
confrérie. Ces communiqués seront rédigés
dans l'une des quatre langues officielles de la
Confrérie, et ne seront normalement pas traduits.

per posta elettronica a tutti i Fratelli che sono
nella BOC-List. Le Fratellanze Nazionali sono
autorizzate a utilizzare per le loro esigenze
copie e traduzioni anche parziali a condizione
che ne sia sempre indicata la fonte. Da parte
loro i Vigìa Internazionali comunicheranno a
uno dei Redattori o a SECOIN le notizie
relative alla loro Fratellanza. Questi
comunicati saranno redatti in una delle
quattro lingue ufficiali della Fratellanza e di
regola non saranno tradotti.
