Verlaine e Rimbaud, un processo: Bruxelles luglio/agosto 1873 Unknown morality. Verlaine and Rimbaud, a trial: Brussels July/August 1873 Il Melangolo Series “Lecturae" 180 pages Forthcoming April 2009 Rimbaud-Verlaine: a scandalous relationship revealed through the secret papers of a famous trial. This book offers, for the first time, the opportunity to read the entire papers of the trial that took place in Bruxelles in 1873, which ‘starred’ as protagonists Paul Verlaine and Arthur Rimbaud. The story of the relationship between the two poets is well-known, but not completely. The two artists’ human and artistic adventure is even nowadays rich of surprises, after more than a century from the events that involved them. Great poets, of course, but also alcohol addicted, quarrelsome, antisocial and amoral men who were forced to leave France because of the continuous attacks they received by the “good” French society of the time, and who took refuge in London where they lived as vagabonds. In 1873, in Brussels, a drunk Verlaine fired Rimbaud, wounding him. During the trial that followed, the prosecutor tried, moreover, to investigate the nature of their relationship, ordering a special investigation on Verlaine’s body to discover those “signs” that could confirm the amoral nature of their friendship. Because of its content, the complete dossier of the trial couldn’t be examined until the 1960s and remained almost unknown - in its whole, it has never been published before. Thanks to this book, the reader can discover the details of the entire trial and a number of minor characters who were involved in the affaire. Giuseppe Marcenaro published many books of History, Art and Social Studies; including: Lettere a una gentile signora (Adelphi, 1983); Eugenio Montale (Bruno Mondadori,1999); Carte inquiete (Aragno,2005); Cimiteri. Storie di rimpianti e di follie (Bruno Mondadori,2008). In 2007 he edited for Il Melangolo a sort of (auto)-biography by Stendhal: Autobiografia del signor me stesso di Stendhal. Margherita Rubino FEDRA Per mano femminile PHAEDRA With female touch Il Melangolo Series: Opuscola 120 pages : January-Fabruary 2009 The myth of Phaedra in the theatre and in literature: from Euripides to Hans Werner Henze The topic of a mature woman who accused his young lover of sexual harassment can also be found in Eastern literatures and the Bible. In the plot created by Euripides in Hippolytus (428 B.C.) the mature woman is also the stepmother of the young boy. Starting from there Phaedra is the main character of all the Western literary variations to the masterpiece of Jean Racine, Phédre (1677). In the twentieth century, thanks to the fortune of classic theatre all over the world, the story of Phaedra has been revisited by female artists such as Marina Cvetaeva, Marguerite Yourcenar, Patrizia Valduga, Sarah Kane. This book is a review of Phaedra’s myth though its theatrical and literary representations up to Hans Werner Henze’s Phaedra, published in 2007 and translated all over the world. In the Sixties Operai e capitale determined quite new world view, an attitudes and language, and contributed to the cultural growth of thousands of activists in factories, schools and suburbs. A remarkable part of the struggles in 1968 and the "Hot Autumn" were fed by the theories of this book. Four decades after its first edition, Operai e capitale has become a classic text, with a specific role in the history of labour movement. On the other hand, its contents are still topical and offer an extraordinary key to understand the rapid changes and the class decomposition of the last two decades. Mario Tronti (Rome, 1931) is considered one of the founders of theoretical operaism of the 1960s. Excerpt «We must not comfortably define as insoluble every problem that capital finds in the path of its development. We must not immediately say: you cannot resolve it, only we can solve it for you. A problem for capital is, first of all, a terrain for labor struggle. Its economic terrain is our political terrain. While capital looks for a solution we are only interested in increasing our Organizational strength. We know that one after the other, all of capital's economic problems can be resolved. We also know that what appears here as an insoluble contradiction, elsewhere may have been already overcome or may have become another contradiction. From the labor viewpoint, the premise for a powerful and efficient class struggle moving in the sense of a positive violence is the specific knowledge of the specific contradiction for capital in a given moment in a given situation. A labor victory forces the backward owner to get even in various ways, on the simple quantity of the new part of income that labor has gained. Sometimes this happens for lack of economic margins and other times for lack of political intelligence. This is not the real point where the labor victory is turned into a defeat. In fact, such a crude answer by the owners only promotes the repetition of a cycle of struggles at the same level of the earlier one, with a higher charge of spontaneity and therefore a lesser need of organization. On this path, the movement of the struggles is easier, mobilization is both great and simple, and the moment of generalization is immediate.» Sergio Bianchi and Lanfranco Caminiti GLI AUTONOMI History, struggles, theories DeriveApprodi Three Volumes - each of ab. 480 pages 25,00 euro Paradigms of theoretical production and practical experimentation in the matter of a revolutionary project about workers’ autonomy were mostly developed between 1973 and 1979. Various political, social and territorial factors contributed to this debate. This book offers an image of that process offering a collection of documents which testify of a subversive knowledge, while locating them in their historical and political context, through a detailed chronology. An already rich overview is completed by an “international section” with works from different countries: these reflections are the paradoxical reaction to the violent response that workers’ attempts to gain autonomy have often found in Italy. Critic thinking and movements of struggle have partly gained strength from Italian books, stories and authors translated into many languages. The contributors include: César Altamira, Franco Berardi (Bifo), Martin Birkner, Lucio Castellano, Patrick Cuninghame, Silvia Federici, Robert Foltin, Felix Guattari, Michael Hardt, Roberto Lauricella, Vincenzo Miliucci, Primo Moroni, Toni Negri, Sirio Paccino, Daniele Pifano, Carlos Prieto del Campo, Alvaro Reyes, Suely Rolnik, Roberta Tomassini, Mario Tronti. Accordingly ,changes in labour and financial markets should be considered as the two sides of the coin. The events of 11/9 in New York showed worldwide the crisis of American economy. This book focuses on the causes of the international economic and financial slump and the tool the US government used to react - war. Between the crisis of the New Economy and the rise of War Economy there is not a simple causative relationship, but rather a complex texture of links - the change from an industrial to an IT form of production, the role played by financial powers and neo-liberal policies, the ownership of worldwide resources and raw materials, in short, the radical mutation of capitalism. Only a few people, however, that use such terms, are fully aware of their implications and, most of all, of their origin. Paolo Virno is one of the authors that contributed to create them. This book - a short overview of the recent year debate that has been developed on radical media - help readers in a correct use and understanding of the above concepts - the only theoretical tools that can explain the economic, social and cultural changes which have been shaking Western societies in the last decade. Emilio Quadrelli ANDARE AI RESTI Banditi, rapinatori, guerriglieri nell’Italia degli anni Settanta Outlaws, robbers, guerrillas in 1970s Italy DeriveApprodi 2004 336 pages ISBN 88-88738-19-3 17,50 euro At the end of the Sixties, juvenile gangs begin to appear in the contest of factory work, in the so called “Italian industrial triangle” between Milan, Turin and Genoa. In a short period of time, these groups will become clusters of robbers (the most famous was Vallanzasca’s gang). The conduct of such metropolitan bandits is certainly connected with the cultural environment of proletarian areas; besides, this existential approach realizes some aspects that will be familiar for young people in the Seventies: impatience and lack of mediation. In fact the title – which is taken from poker jargon and means “being ready to stake everything” – suggests a specific way of acting, without any possibility to go back. The particular role played by women should be considered as a sharp difference from traditional criminality: their operating autonomy and decision-making ability were problematic not only to conservative middle classes, but also to feminist movements. Clearly, prison is a fundamental background: here bandits often meet revolutionary militants: from this common environment, the most radical critic towards institutions and forms of power is arisen. In the early Eighties this cultural turmoil was removed through the creation of “top-security prisons” and the diffusion of drugs, mainly heroin; organized criminality becomes dominant once again; society itself is object of control and repression like jail (a reality that will in particular affect immigrants in the Nineties). The phenomenon of juvenile gangs of the Seventies and this cultural area have almost always been neglected by historians and sociologists. Emilio Quadrelli, born in Genoa in 1956, is researcher for the Department of Anthropological Sciences at Genoa University. His studies focus on criminality and immigration. He is also the author of La città e le ombre. Crimini, criminali, cittadini” (Feltrinelli 2003) with Alessandro Dal Lago. Francesco Codello ANARCHIA KIT NE' OBBEDIRE NE' COMANDARE ANARCHY KIT NEITHER OBEY, NOR ORDER ELEUTHERA Forthcoming: April 2009 “This is not a compendium of anarchy. It’s a tool box including words that may help you to experience freedom.” This book approaches to the idea of anarchy from an unusual point of view, through keywords that often seem to have hardly something to do with a political ideology. In fact, anarchy is presented here as a particular way of life and an existential choice, rather than a political theory. This is because the author, by one hand has his own view of an anarchist way of life, on the other hand his texts is expressly addressed to young readers. The result is so far from boring and often outdated political debates. An anarchy to be experienced in daily life, something significant and useful for any person who wants to change him/herself while helping to change the world around him/her. Francesco Codello works in the educational system in Treviso and is an activist for the International Democratic Education Network. He collaborates with the review "Libertaria" and is the author of Educazione e anarchismo (Ferrara, 1995) and La buona educazione (Milano, 2005). The new female participation in the mafia, though, was not a sign of women’s liberation within the mafia labour market. Escaping the social, political and cultural framework formed by mafia families - ruled by rigid honour codes - is still nowadays more difficult for women, whose identity has been forged inside them. Combining academic rigour with a multidisciplinary approach characterized by a refined selection of sociological, psychological and juridical literature - and a lively style, this book will appeal to a vast readership. Ombretta Ingrascì (1974) holds a PhD from Queen Mary College, University of London, where she graduated with a thesis titled Mafia Women in Contemporary Italy. Focusing her scholarship about organized crime, she has published several articles on the topic. She currently combines research with University teaching, and is also involved in projects and activities of education to legality for secondary schools. Philosophy Lorenzo Spezia IL PIPISTRELLO E IL SOLE Livelli di conoscenza ed esperienza mistica nel pensiero di Tommaso d’Aquino [The bat and the sun. Levels of knowledge and mistical experience in Thomas of Aquino’s thought] Il Leone Verde 2008 228 pages – size 11x19 16,00 euro During the Middle Ages, scholars were convinced that bats could count on very sensitive eyes, perfectly suitable for nocturnal darkness; on the other hand, their eyes had to be useless during the day, in the shining sun light. Recognising a symbolic connection between human beings and bats, these animal were used to represent human sensitivity to material goods (the darkness of worldly night), but also human blindness towards the spiritual dimension (brightness of the sun). Thomas of Aquino affirms that it is just this spiritual horizon what can lead humans to happiness; but this is something that does not concern everyday knowledge: so, many people think this is not even a significant area of discussion. This work tries to show Thomas's philosophy in its completeness: the experiences that we make with our five senses are neither the only source nor the most important of cognition, but they are just a means to start along the path of growth and real consciousness. Lorenzo Spezia is priest for the community of “Ricostruttori nella Preghiera” and a philosopher. He studied Thomas of Aquino’s thought at the Dominican University in Bologna and also got a doctorate in philosophy at the Papal University in Rome. In 45 astonishing and riveting episodes, the book explores the paradox of fictitious situations . while this subject seems to be quite theoretical, it deeply affects our everyday lives, and in a number of activities, such as going to cinema, reading novels, watching TV movies and so on. Here is the paradox: can you really cry for Anna Karenina, who is not real, a fiction? And more in general: what is the difference between crying for a movie and crying for the death of Lady Diana? And the subject becomes more complicated in the case of laughing. We really laugh for jokes, even if they are about unreal events. So, what is the difference between laughing and crying for real? The question is serious and regards both the “crying” and the “for real”, and in general all the feelings in our life. With humour and philosophical depth, the author tries to explain, with an unusual approach, why we like novels and movies so much and why feelings are so important in our life. Gianni Emilio Simonetti LA VIVANDIERA DI MONTELIMAR THE SUTLER FROM MONTELIMAR The century of logic rebellions and the birth of modern cuisine in the memories of a petroleuse DeriveApprodi 2004 208 pages (with illustrations) ISBN 88-88738-52-5 15,00 euro A 17th century Neapolitan painting, Paris in 1871 during the Commune, a cooking school for managers - three apparently different fictional cues that are linked by the narrating character, Ginevra. So, the reader is told about both the victims of the repression which follows the unsuccessful insurrection and a cook who has to serve arrogant middle class people, after experiencing hunger. Ginevra’s narration goes back to the origins of culinary culture and habits, revealing how food can become an instrument of domination and hypocrisy, explaining the formation of modern taste, telling about the “bread revolts” at the end of the 19th century - the despair of poverty as opposed to an age of pleasures and Aestheticism. Gianni Emilio Simonetti is both an artist and a theorist of art. He is one of the few Italian artists linked to Situationism; he has taken part in the artistic and political experience of “Fluxus” and to “Cramps/Multipla”; he also created the magazine “La Gola” in the contest of the material cultures. His previous books: L’agonia e i suoi sarti. 1968-1998: le ragioni dell'assalto e quelle della resa (1998), La funzione sociale dell'arte e la follia. Medicalizzare l'alterità (2001). Anonimo LA CUOCA ROSSA THE RED COOK History of a Spartacis cell in the Bauhaus. With German recipes Foreword by Luigi Veronelli DeriveApprodi 2003 192 pages (with illustrations) ISBN 88-88738-11-8 15,00 euro German rights sold Hannah R. is a cook for the Bauhaus, the legendary school of art, architecture and design established by W. Gropius at the time of the Weimar Republic. Everybody calls her the “Red Cook”: she leads a group of students and teachers (all in close relationship with Paul Klee) to join Spartacism and create a specific cell within the school. Memories and recipes build a peculiar biography, showing both the artist and the activist. The narration is also formed by passionate discussions about art and revolution, by encounters with some of the outstanding figures of Mitteleuropean culture – in those agitated years: W. Kandinsky, R. M. Rilke, A. Schnitzler… Eventually, this work shows the contrast between the passion and the energies of revolutionaries and a historical situation of angst and sense of powerlessness. Hannah and her comrades seem to challenge those middle class people that a few years later will welcome the National Socialism. It is a significant portrait of brave people: they are ready to fight, but also aware of the difficulties determined by their choice. Anonimo LA CUCINA IMPUDICA SHAMELESS KITCHEN Secret recipes of a lady of pleasure, revealed to whom is considering to become a lady of pleasure Foreword by Luigi Veronelli DeriveApprodi 2001 144 pages (with illustrations) ISBN 88-87423-75-X 14,46 euro Spanish rights sold The diary of a high-class prostitute tells about life in Paris during the Thirties: encounters with writers, musicians and painters in the same cultural context described by Walter Benjamin, Surrealism, universal exhibitions. On the other hand, the narrating character is not just a prostitute, but also a writer, a model, an actress… a cook. The fascination of this past age is wonderfully evoked by the calibrated mixture of refined and juicy recipes, memories, anecdotes, short stories; an effective narration of a fertile artistic and intellectual moment is offered through a real erotic recipe book. The gastronomic element in this work is particularly interesting: pleasure of senses is exalted without any hypocrisies, without any shame. Recipes are clearly explained and simply ordered in three sections. Ingredient doses and cooking times have been adapted to modern tastes and technologies. This diary has been saved from a destiny of oblivion when it was found - bound with two pastrymaking manuals on a bookstall in the Flohmarkt in Vienna; the manuscript dates back to 1919/1931. This book is enriched by thirty erotic photographic and graphic illustrations. Luigi Veronelli was an oenologist and a great expert of cooking, whose authority is a guarantee of the interest of this unconventional work. Davide Dutto e Michele Marziani IL GAMBERO NERO THE BLACK LOBSTER Recipes from jail DeriveApprodi 2006 144 pages ISBN 88-88738-64-9 19,00 euro German rights sold This photographic book of recipes was created to tell something about everyday life in a prison in Piedmont. Since in jail senses are particularly injured by deprivation, food can become a way to hold out and show off tastes and cooking skills. Moreover, cooking and eating together offer a path to remember, to teach, to share in the very same time. This literary contribution comes from the year spent by the authors in the prison of Fossano, where they cooked and eaten in their cells, learning and now showing recipes from all over the world, because of the international origin of prisoners in Italy, whose stories are traced pic after pic. Davide Dutto has become a photographer (after an unsuccessful military call-up) and lives in Piedmont. Michele Marziani is a free-lance journalist; he lives and works in Milan and Rimini. He mainly writes about territorial habits, food and wine, but his first passion is politically and socially committed journalism. Sinfonia gastronomica. Musica, eros, cucina Gastronomic symphony. Music, Eros, cooking By Roberto Iovino e Ileana Mattion Viennepierre edizioni, 2006 pages 298, 18,00 euro Spanish rights sold (Siruela); Russian rights under negotiation What did the Romans eat at their time? And in which way were knights supposed to attend their beloved dame at table in the Middle Ages? Does anybody know how to prepare a baroque dish or to re-create a perfect futuristic lunch? All these really delicious items are investigated by the authors, dipping into the special relationship between music, erotic love and cooking, all of them perfectly reflecting society’s evolution. The book’s structure follows the tempos of a symphony: Adagio, Allegro with motion, Andante with changes, Scherzo, Rondò vivace and final Adagio. The first tempo is a trip through the arts of gastronomy and music from the ancient Greeks to modern fast-food. The second is dedicated to the theatre, where a toast or a dinner have often represented the climax of a situation. In the Scherzo, some famous gourmet-musicians like Haendel, Brahms, Rossini, Verdi show how easy it was, sometimes, to put apart a music score and concentrate on a juicy menu. In the Rondò vivace the authors set us a typical roman, medieval, renaissance, baroque or romantic table, with their original recipes and music pieces. Roberto Iovino. Born in Genoa, 1953. Tales and dishes from half-caste cookery elèuthera Forthcoming: March 2009 There are few things that distinguish a people more than its cooking: food is not only taste, but also identity and deep relationship with one’s community. Who decides or is forced to live in a foreign country is forced to change his habits and language, but always tries to maintain something of his traditional cooking. In Italy, a country the identity of which is most due to its cooking tradition, immigration is a quite recent phenomena and the cooking habits of newcomers are often marginalized. However, in spite of the domination of spaghetti and pizza, there are many curious people who, in the shadow of their kitchens, are beginning to mix tastes and traditions, to create new dishes. The result is a series of incorrect recipes that you cannot find neither in the Italian nor in the ethnic recipe books: with unconventional tastes, new ingredients, flavours that contaminate the correctness of original recipes. Andrea Perin works in Milan as museum architect and exhibition designer (the most recent, Maestri della scultura in legno nel Ducato degli Sforza) and museums (including the National Archaeological Museum of Vigevano). He is also keen on cooking traditions and published with Eleuthera La fame aguzza l’ingegno, a book of “poor” recipes now at its second edition. Books by Andrea Perin already published by Eleuthera: Andrea Perin LA FAME AGUZZA L’INGEGNO cucina buona in tempi difficili Andrea Perin COSE DA MUSEO Avvertenze per il visitatore curioso first edition 2005 first reprint 2006 2007 Series: “Leggere è un gusto!” (Literature & Cooking) Il Leone Verde Edizioni The series “Leggere è un gusto!” (a slogan that could be translated as “Reading has a pleasant taste”) is entirely devoted to an unusual twinning: that between food and literature. Cookery, food, banquets are often important elements of literature and other arts. The books published in this series explore the interlacements of gastronomic and literary elements, emphasise the expressive value of the dishes and the pleasures of the table described in novels (as in films or paintings), examine their influences on characters and plots – and provide recipes as in any typical cookbook: true food for the mind and the body! Each title – 40 published so far – is dedicated to a different subject: cooking in ’The Arabian Nights’, cooking in Italian, British and American pop and rock songs, cooking in opera, literature, cinema, visual arts and so on. The authors are keen scholars of the relationship between food and literature, or experts in their subject, or even chefs. A dedicated website - www.leggereungusto.it - has recently been created with the purpose of building a community of keen readers, where they can discuss their favourite subjects, find curious and interesting information, and be invited to readings and special events dedicated to the relationship between food and literature. Contributors to the website are the authors of the books. Graziella Martina IL MIO APPRENDISTATO IN CUCINA Le ricette di Colette [My cooking apprenticeship. Colette’s recipes] Il Leone verde - Series "Leggere è un gusto" 110 pages – size 14x18 ISBN 978-88-95177-49-6 10,00 euro Colette’s life has known a long and complicated evolution: born as “Gabrielle Sidonie”, she became madame Willy and then baroness of Juvenel des Ursins, ending her life simply as Colette. Along and after this long life path, food had a very important role. Above all, cooking and tasting were source of inspiration for her: Colette, a pleasure-loving and greedy woman, was able to transform her passions into creative genius and energy. Graziella Martina, who lives near Turin, is the author of several tourist guides and travel books. Stefania Campo I SEGRETI DELLA TAVOLA DI MONTALBANO Le ricette di Andrea Camilleri [Secrets from Montalbano’s kitchen. Andrea Camilleri’s recipes] Il Leone verde - Series "Leggere è un gusto" 100 pages – size 14x18 ISBN 978-88-95177-47-2 10,00 euro This book shows Andrea Camilleri’s gastronomic perspective, expressed through his most famous character – Montalbano, who is greedy and always starving. This becomes the occasion to offer a tasty choice of traditional Sicilian dishes, with an important contribution from Camilleri’s family memories. In fact, food is often present in his stories, acquiring a strong affective value, symbolizing maternal love. And this passion is shared by the fictional superintendent: food is the fundamental object of desire and the most striking source of pleasure. The author seems to lead the reader to silently sit and calmly savour these wonderful dishes. Stefania Campo is an architect and is specialised in photography and digital cinema; she works also as a teacher She lives partly in Milan and partly in Ragusa, where she promotes an association called “Sicilian Movietour”, which offers cultural and gastronomic routes inspired by literature and cinema. Mothers’ knowledge about babies’ feeding from 0 to 6 months] Foreword by Franco De Luca Il Leone verde 2009 144 pages – size 15x21 14,00 euro Among the questions and the problems that the birth of a baby arises, certainly there is the aspect of nutrition and choice of food: in particular, during the first months of a new baby’s life attention to products becomes fundamental. This maternal experience can lead to two innovative results: learning an ecological approach to the world around us and facing an educational path to the appreciation of diversity. The author confronts the problems of children’s nutrition from this particular point of view: this book offers recipes, memories, suggestions from mothers of many different cultures, about breast milk, family meals, first baby food and culinary games. In conclusion, this is an intercultural reflection about feeding: healthy food for us and Earth balance. Sara Honnegger published several works about babies’ nutrition and education (for example Piccoli Golosi), but also about ecological feeding (for example Cucina naturale and La cucina facile ed ecologica). She collaborates with many magazines as "Donna moderna", "Star Bene", "Marie Claire", "La cucina naturale", "D La Repubblica delle Donne", the Sunday edition of "Il Sole 24 Ore", writing about natural medicine, female health, natural feeding. Franco De Luca BAMBINI E (TROPPE) MEDICINE Difendersi dall’eccessiva medicalizzazione dei nostri figli [Children and (too many) drugs. Defending ourselves from the excessive medicalisation of our children] Il Leone verde 150 pages – size 13,5x22 ISBN 978-88-95177-42-7 14,00 euro This book helps new parents in acquiring certainty and confidence while attending to their growing kids. As children’s problems are more and more often faced through drugs, the author tries to offer a critical point of view in considering this kind of solutions, which are frequently source of collateral damages. So, this work suggest some recipes of home made preparations and foods that can resolve non serious children’s pathologies. Franco De Luca has been a paediatrician for the Family Advice Bureau of Campagnano di Roma; he is now the manager of the operative unit for “Preventive Medicine of Evolutionary Age”. Paola Negri DAI ANCORA IL LATTE? Perché allattare dopo il primo anno [Do you still feed? Why feeding after the first year] Il Leone verde 2008 150 pages – size 13,5x22 ISBN 978-88-95177-45-8 14,00 euro The author provides useful scientific information about feeding, not only during the first months of life of the baby, but also during and after the weaning. The great value of this kind of diet is certainly related to the nutritional qualities of human milk, but it can represent an important element of care, too. So, this book examines feelings and problems of feeding mothers as well as cultural and social prejudices that can hinder the continuation of this special relationship when the child is not a newborn baby anymore. Some real experiences of feeding mothers, seen in different situations, are also described. Paola Negri, is the author of another work about feeding (“Tutte le mamme hanno il latte”) and lives in Florence. Elena Dal Prà VIA IL PANNOLINO! L’educazione al vasino in una prospettiva educativa, etica ed ecologica [Stop to nappies! Upbringing to potty-chair with an educational, ethical and ecological perspective] Il Leone verde 2008 150 pages – size 13,5x22 ISBN 978-88-95177-46-5 14,00 euro Leaving nappies and starting to use a potty-chair can be a very difficult and painful moment for kids and parents. The author proposes a reflection about this delicate subject with a light approach. She talks about all possible problems and dynamics of this process, offering some suggestions to face them, always respecting children’s point of view and needs. Her real aim is to support parents in choosing the right period for this change. Elena Dal Prà is a journalist and lives in Gorizia. Education A book that suggests a poetical pedagogy, a poetical approach to education, an education to poetry Raffaele Mantegazza Educazione e poesia Pedagogia in forma di verso città aperta editrice pp. 160 / Euro 14,00 Education that helps a boy to grow as a man and a girl to grow as a woman is a complex process – it is doubtful that the discourse which tries to describe it should be compressed by an instrumental and technological reason which pretends to be allembracing . A poetical reason is also there. Poetry discovers reality while inventing and re-creating it, it also creates new realities while discovering fractures, gaps, shadow areas in what already exists – truth in poetry is in the tension between existing and new realities. So, educating a boy or a girls is saying more, showing something that was not there, enriching reality with new presence, dreaming a world richer with new human beings, new subjects. Such “something more” can be communicated to students, when the teacher's words become in turn poetry. It is possible to educate to poetry, not only to its technical terms, but also to a spiritual approach to it. Raffaele Mantegazza teaches Intercultural Pedagogy at the university of Milano Bicocca. With Città Aperta Edizioni he published Lettera a uno studente (2008), La fine dell’educazione. Un’utopia (anti)pedagogica (2006), Pedagogia della morte. L’esperienza del morire e l’educazione al congedo (2004), Pedagogia della resistenza. Tracce utopiche per educare a resistere (2003), L’odore del fumo.
