since its beginnings in 1968 driade has, through its selection of designers
and through the development of objects and furniture, represented a particular
attitude, encouraging innovation and individuality and enjoying a spirit
of design diversity.
as the world of design has become increasingly concerned with taste and
lifestyle as a way of sustaining commercial credibility, the individuality of the
designer and the originality of furniture and objects of design have so often
been suppressed by the idea of what might be described as branding.
it is remarkable to look back at driade’s production over the last 45 years
and witness the generosity of idea and diversity that has been encouraged
and developed within a defining spirit sustaining a vision yet avoiding the
idea of brand that has stifled so much design.
the cast of characters that have worked within this generous spirit is both
impressive and diverse (from enzo mari to konstantin grcic, from nanda vigo
to philippe starck, from borek sipek to paola navone).
driade has managed over the years to establish its importance within the
extraordinary design culture of italy, a culture that despite everything maintains
its place, demonstrating the importance of tradition and innovation, balancing
commerce and craft. it is not an exaggeration to describe this context as unique.
going forward, it is the intention of driade to maintain its contribution
to this culture and to continue to develop the generous balance between the
individuality of the designer and the loose coherence and perspective so
brilliantly determined by adelaide acerbi, antonia astori and enrico astori.
sin dal 1968, anno della sua fondazione, attraverso la selezione dei designer
e lo sviluppo di oggetti e arredi, driade ha dimostrato di avere una particolare
attitudine incentrata sull’innovazione e l’individualità, mostrando lo spirito della
diversità nel design.
con la crescente attenzione del mondo del design per il gusto e lo stile di vita,
visti come strumento di credibilità nel commercio, l’individualità del designer e
l’originalità della produzione di oggetti ed arredi di design è stata molto spesso
schiacciata dall’idea di ciò che potrebbe essere descritto con il termine branding.
è sorprendente ripercorrere la straordinaria produzione di driade degli ultimi
45 anni e testimoniare la generosità del concetto di diversità incoraggiata e
sviluppata all’interno di questo spirito ben definito che ha permesso di non
soccombere a quell’idea di brand che ha tanto soffocato il design.
il gruppo di figure che ha lavorato all’interno di questo spirito virtuoso è
entusiasmante e allo stesso tempo eclettico (da enzo mari a konstantin grcic,

driade è riuscita negli anni a nutrire il suo valore all’interno della straordinaria
cultura del design italiano, che al di là di tutto resta un punto di riferimento,
dimostrando l’importanza della tradizione e dell’innovazione in equilibrio tra
commercio e artigianato. non è un esagerazione ritenere questo approccio
come unico.
guardando avanti, è intenzione di driade sostenere il proprio contributo a
questa cultura e sviluppare il generoso equilibrio tra l’individualità del designer
e una visione di disinvolta coerenza, elementi così brillantemente indicati da
adelaide acerbi, antonia astori e enrico astori.
