The C-27J Spartan for Canada - To the Rescue Search & Rescue is About Saving Lives When it comes to saving lives, compromise is not an option. Canada’s unpredictable weather patterns - both on and offshore - require a manoeuvrable and flexible aircraft to effectively perform in these dangerous conditions. In Canada, capable and effective Fixed Wing Search & Rescue (FWSAR) is crucial, however, the current fleet of aging aircraft lack key capabilities. Canada needs an aircraft that operates in harsh environments, across vast terrains and provide the speed necessary to swiftly reach those in need. North America - Canada is working with Canadian industry to establish partnerships and agreements that will provide a robust suite of Canadian technology and life-cycle support. The twin-engine C-27J has been designed, built and equipped for completely autonomous deployment in extreme conditions such as those found in Canada’s North. The aircraft operates safely from even the most remote, isolated Canadian locations. Priced competitively, the C-27J meets Canada’s SAR requirements at as little as one third of the operating cost of the current aging fleets used for this role. Alenia The FWSAR program will provide over $3 billion worth of work and support for hundreds of high quality jobs in support of the Industry Canada Industrial and Regional Benefits (IRB) program - an outstanding economic stimulus for Canada’s aerospace sector. In production since 2001, the C-27J Spartan has been selected by a total of ten national air forces. The aircraft have been delivered to Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, the United States, Lithuania, Romania, Morocco and Mexico and has been selected by Slovakia and Australia. C-27J Capabilities & Advantages MISSION ACCOMPLISHMENT The C-27J’s structural strength, power, and system redundancy provide the highest level of safety and an unbeatable mission accomplishment rate. The C-27J has a double hydraulic circuit, triple redundancy (three SPEED & RANGE generators, alternators, transformer rectifier units, and engine restart options), a full jettison capacity, a three The C-27J’s range and speed allows it to reach locations spar wing and vertical tail structure, and an on-board anywhere in Canada, including those in the far North Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) to provide easy starting in and at sea. VISIBILITY Life-cycle costs are also minimized through the implementation of flexible and affordable support solutions tailored to specific customer needs. With 16 cockpit windows and bubble windows on both sides of the fuselage, the C-27J provides unparalleled SPECIFICATIONS visibility for pilots and air crew, which is essential for MAX CRUISE SPEED..............................................................325 KTAS (602 KM/HR) successful search and rescue operations, even in moun- MAX ENGINE POWER.......................................................................4687 SHP EACH FERRY RANGE...............................................................................3160 NM (5852 KM) tainous terrain. CABIN AREA & JUMP SAFETY The C-27J has a high and wide cabin area, which is conducive to efficient and safe SAR operations. During missions, SAR crews can move around freely, standing upright, even when wearing bulky equipment in preparation for a parachute jump. The C-27J’s large rear and side doors offer safer and more efficient jump conditions and represent a significant improvement over the existing fleet. There is also a greater distance between the propeller and the fuselage, which minimizes turbulence.
