Cap. 3 - Introduction to the operation IRS-CB 3 - Introduction to the operation The first part is aimed at familiarising the user with the Sicep BiTech System. It will be followed by a section, which provides a detailed analysis of the operation of the unit. 3.1- The IRS-CB control panel Building on the many years of experience in the design and manufacturing of radio systems, Sicep has now designed an innovative antitheft control unit, fitted with an entirely bidirectional communication system, called BiTech. The use of state of the art technologies has resulted in the production of anti intrusion products, which enable a constant analysis of the signals from the installed radio devices, and therefore a constant monitoring by the operating control station. This control unit incorporates a radio communicator which can be used for communication for private use in the VHF or UHF range, for transmitting information to surveillance control units. The main distinguishing features of the BiTech system are: Modularity It includes 8 wired inputs and one 868MHz two-way disturbance resistant radio, with GFSK modulation, capable of handling Bi-directional communication with up to 32 wireless devices (keypads, radio controlled sensors, passive infrared sensors, magnetic contacts etc.) and 4 REP signal repeaters. The Control unit can handle up to 4 independent partitions, as well as zones shared by several partitions. The 8 available outputs can be programmed individually as: static, monostable and inverted. High level of security Should no confirmation be received by the Control Unit, all radio devices can make several attempts to communicate and ensure good transmission results. The technology used enables the control unit to detect the prolonged absence of a radio device, with a programmable time of 30 to 120 minutes, as well as frequency jamming attempts, by continuously monitoring and generating an alarm, should prolonged disturbance occur (programmable time 1 to 10 minutes). Safe communication Communications between the wireless device and the control unit are possible thanks to a synchronised protocol with high speed dynamic encrypting. This synchronized technology exchange enables dynamic two-way transmissions, absence of collisions and an optimum distribution of radio traffic, as well as the possibility of extending the coverage of the radio devices with up to 4 repeaters. Reduce consumption and speed of reply Thanks to the Bi-directional technology, the sensors remain in an “sleep” state when the system is disabled, and only transmit the information when required by the control unit. This reduces costs and at the same time increases the duration of the batteries. The BiTech Control unit can activate all sensors in just a few seconds (approximately 4), ensuring a promptness of system response, which can be compared to standard wired systems. Pag. 6 IRS-CB Cap. 3 - Introduction to the operation 3.2- Control Unit features The features of the BiTech IRS-CB control unit can be summarised as follows: • 4 independent partitions, capable of handling shared zones. • 2 types of Arm/Dis. for each partition (Total, Perimetric). • 2 types of Arm/Dis. when using shared zones (Normal, Master). • All partitions reset automatically after a settable amount of time. • Patrol partition, which can be automatically rearmed after a settable amount of time. • 24h partition • Input/output times that can be set individually for each zone • Automatic exclusion of alarmed zones when arming the partition. • Manual zone disabling • 8 wired inputs, NC, NA, or balanced on 5 levels, immediate or delayed, increasable to 24 • 8 100mA open collector outputs, static or monostable driven, increasable to 24 • Removable terminal board • Continuous supply voltage and battery test. • Periodic dynamic test on the actual capacity of the buffer battery • Events log with up to 512 events that can be viewed through the keypad or PC software. • Bell function • Zones that can be set as Fire prevention, Panic, Medical (24H), Arm/Dis. • Programming by using MVC software, locally means serial connection or USB. • Internal siren with piezoelectric transducer • Other sirens: 1A free relay, self-powered and internal siren outputs • 12V service outputs, 800 mA maximum with self-resetting fuse. • Clock/calendar with management of daylight saving time and automatic reset (the latter function is only available with the MVS protocol) • Anti Tamper, non-removable plastic case. This bus provides parallel connections for all key readers and wired keypads. The following limitations apply. - Wired I/O expansions: 2 maximum - Key readers: 4 maximum - Wired keypads: 4 maximum - Wired TAG readers: 4 maximum. The cable length for each device and the control unit can be up to 200 metres. Pag. 8 IRS-CB Cap. 3 - Introduction to the operation 3.4- Wired Inputs The IRS-CB Control unit can manage 8 NC (Normally Close) / NA (Normally Open) / Double balanced wired inputs and 8 Open Collector outputs. The wired inputs can be used in balance mode and also in NC (Normally Close) / NA (Normally Open) modes. Double balanced mode enables distinguishing between Alarm and Sabotage (cable cut or short circuit). 3.5- Radio Communicator The IRS-CB control unit incorporates a VHF (156-174 MHz) or UHF (440-470 MHz) 10 watt transceiver, according to the model. This transceiver is configured as a fixed/mobile equipment for private use, therefore its use is dependent upon a General Authorisation issued by the competent authority. The transceiver can operate with the following protocols: - High speed MVS Sicep - 6-channel low speed Sicep, new/old format - Compatible 1 - Compatible 1 CRYPTO - Compatible 2, 8 channels - Compatible 2, 12 channels - Compatible SIN 1, SIN 2, SIN 3 - Formats for crossing compatible REPs (5 protocols) In the programming phase, a transmission channel must be associated to the events to transmit. An exception is made for the high speed MVS Sicep protocol when it is used with MVSNet control units. In this case, information is transmitted in a similar way to the telephone Contact-ID and the control unit can transmit all the events completely. A secondary reserve frequency is also available. When operating on this frequency, the control unit can use a peripheral code which differs from the main one. 3.6- Telephone Backup It is possible to install an optional telephone card (IF-TL) in the IRS-CB control unit which allows a back up telephone transmission to be sent whenever the radio transmission is not successful. Two telephone numbers are available. The control unit can also use separate peripheral codes which differ according to the recipient. This card is also able to detect if the line is cut and generate a specific event at the end of a programmed time. 3.7- Wireless devices operation Each BiTech control unit has its own serial number. This is univocally allocated during manufacturing, and cannot be modified. This number identifies the system and ensures that each sensor will only work with the equipment to which it has been assigned. The sensors will be programmed automatically with a recording on the control unit itself, during the installation. The following Wireless radio transmission devices are part of the BiTech system: • Magnetic Sensor (BT-CMW) multifunction device that operates the main magnetic contact, a shock detection sensor (inertial), a rolling shutter contact and an auxiliary magnetic contact. • Indoor infrared sensor (BT-IRW) passive Wireless radio infrared sensor with a 12m coverage. If delayed sensors are used, the Admission and Learning times must be established for each of them. These times will be the same for all sensors of the same partition. All partitions have an automatic rearming function. This function can be activated by simply entering a time different from 0 in the "AutoArm T." box. Partition 4 can be used for the Patrol function The BiTech system enables the use and management of zones shared by several partitions. Let's see how they work by showing some simple examples. S1 Zone 1 S3 Zone 3 A Partition 1 C B Partition 2 S2 P Zone 2 Two offices A and B have a common C corridor. To make things simple, this system only includes 3 sensors: one in office A, one in office B and one in the corridor. The system is therefore divided in two partitions: partition 1 (office A) and partition 2 (office B); sensor 1 (zone 1) only belongs to partition A and sensor 2 only belongs to partition B, while sensor 3 (zone 3) is shared and belongs both to partitions A and B. Each user (A and B) can only arm/disarm their section of the system. Let's now suppose that the start up condition is with both partitions disarmed. To simplify things, all partition are instantaneous and can be excluded. Case 1 - A user leaves and arms partition 1 (total), in NON Master mode. As zone 3 also belongs to a non armed partition, zone 3 is not armed. Having shared zones in a non activated state, partition 1 remains in the waiting condition. In this way user B can cross the corridor without generating an alarm. - User B leaves and arms partition 2 (total), in NON Master mode. This will also arm zone 3. NOTICE Note: If an intruder cause sensor 3 to trip, both partition 1 and partition 2 will enter an alarm condition. Case 2 - A user leaves and arms partition 1 (total), in Master mode. Although also belonging to a non armed partition, zone 3 will also be activated. Partition 2 enters a waiting state, because at least one of its zones is active. Pag. 15 Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description NOTICE IRS-CB Note: User B crossing the corridor will now generate an alarm. This type of arming can be necessary when the Master user (the supervisor) wants to ensure that all the system is armed. Master or non Master arming mode depends on the password used (during the keypad operations), or by the key used (operation using an arming device) or by the remote control. During the programming operations, each password, key and remote control are associated with an arming mode (Master or normal). This association can only be changed during programming. 5.2- 24h Partition All the controls that are always active and capable of generating an alarm event, irrespective of whether the partitions are armed or not, belong to the 24h partition. These include: • Zone/devices disabling • Wire devices sabotage (cable cuts or short circuit for balanced wired inputs). • Bus485 devices tamper • Wireless devices tamper • Control Unit panel tamper (removal of cover and/or removal of control unit) • Fire • Panic • Medical • Control unit low battery level • Wireless devices low battery level • No power supply • Wireless devices malfunction • Bus485 devices loss • Wireless devices jamming • Duress • Wrong password entered • Invalid key detection • Telephone Line fault • Zone exclusion • Alarm zone • Maintenance • Antenna cut • 24H zone alarm Pag. 16 IRS-CB Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description 5.3- Automatic Rearming function All partitions can be automatically rearmed after a settable amount of time. To enable this function the parameter "AutoArm T." on the page "System ⇒ Partitions" needs to be set to a value other than 0. The restoring of an alarm memory from any partition other than the Patrol partition will also delete the Patrol partition memory. If during automatic rearming of an partition, one or more of its zones are alarmed, the partition will generate a Burglar Alarm event. WARNING! The panel control works in different way if you insert the system manually or automatically with immediate zones in alarm. ARMING MANUAL or disarming by REMOTE (MVSNet Central Station) - If there are immediate zones in alarm auto-excluded, the panel control denied the arming; repeating the operation the zone is excluded and the area is armed. The state of the zone is now dependent if programmed to self-include when it returns at rest or be excluded until the next arming. - If there are immediate zones in alarm and are not excludible, the panel control denied the arming; even repeating the operation the area can not be armed. AUTOMATIC ARMING by time scheduler or area with time of arming. - If there are immediate zones in alarm self-excluded, the panel control forces the arming of the area excluding automatically the zone. The state of the zone is now dependent if programmed to self-include when it returns at rest or be excluded until the next arming. - If there are immediate zones in alarm not excludible, the panel control arms the area and immediately starts the alarm, the zone is active. 5.4- Patrol Partition function Partition 4 can be dedicated to the Patrol function. This function is useful when support from a Surveillance Unit for environmental control is agreed. The security guard of the Unit can access certain zones belonging to this partition. Once disarmed, partition 4 will enable the Patrol user (security guard) to carry out a patrolling of the partition. Once this has been completed, partition 4 can be either manually rearmed by the Patrol user or automatically rearmed after a set amount of time. In standard usage condition, the Patrol partition only has zones shared with other partitions and is always armed. This ensures that: - When the rest of the system is disarmed, the Patrol partition is in a waiting state. - Once the system is armed, the Patrol partition becomes active. - When the guard disarms the Patrol partition for inspection, only the zones belonging to the Patrol partition will be disarmed. Pag. 17 Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description NOTICE IRS-CB Notes. - The Patrol function can only be used after setting a Rearming Time different from zero. - If some of the shared zones are delayed, it may become necessary that also this partition is delayed. In this case, input and output times of the Patrol partition can be set equal to those of the shared zones. If the Patrol function is not needed, set the Rearming Time to zero. By doing, so the partition will behave like any other partitions. 5.5- Scheduler The unit has a scheduler on a weekly basis with the following features: • Up to 4 programs • each program can be associated with one or more areas or one or more outputs • each program allows n° 2 on / off daily and/or n° 2 activation/deactivation of outputs associated • Arming Total or Perimeter • Management of day festival • Up to 12 days of the fixed holidays (pre-set) • Up to 12 days of variables holidays (pre-set) The programmation may be done by MVC or wired keypad (Administrator menu). 5.6- Partitions Admission / Leaving times: Delayed zones The BiTech control unit delayed zones use the times programmed for the partitions they belong to. In other words, admission and leaving times of delayed zones are the same that have been set for the partition they belong to. A zone needs to be delayed if it needs alarming during the partition arming and disarming operations. Example: if the keypad is placed on the entry corridor and the door is fitted with a magnetic contact, once the system has been armed the door will need opening for the user to leave (leaving time) and once the user returns the door will have to be opened again (admission time). The two times operate as follow: • Leaving time: the delayed sensors are ignored (they are not active). • Admission time: delayed sensors alarms are memorized and will only generate an alarm when the time has expired. Due to its special operating procedure, the Wireless magnetic sensor will be discussed in details later on. Pag. 18 IRS-CB Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description 5.7- Wired Inputs The BiTech Control Unit includes 8 wired inputs. These zones can be used for the connection of sensors using NC, NA or balanced modes. NC Mode When this mode is set, the input will be idle when short-circuited at the GND and in alarm condition when open. This cable connection set-up is much simpler, but it does not distinguish between a zone in alarm condition and a zone in sabotage condition. NA Mode When this mode is set, the input will be idle when open and in alarm condition when short-circuited at the GND. Also this cabling set-up does not distinguish between a zone in alarm condition and a zone in sabotage condition. Balanced mode (dual balancing) In this mode, the input is connected so that it is terminated, idle, at the GND by means of a 47KΩ resistance. The different conditions, based on the input voltage, are listed in the table below. Input state: Voltage Cable-cut Sabotage: >2,7V Alarm: 1,8 ÷ 2,7V Rest: 1,24 ÷ 1,8V Alarm: 0,5 ÷ 1,24V Cable shorted sabotage: < 0,5V For the cabling procedure refer to the installation section. Mode Not Used In this mode, the input (zone) is always at rest and is not reported as "zones Disabled" on the keypad display. Alarm Mode 24H In this use the input (zone) is always active. The event generated (Zone Alarm 24H) moves in the active state when at least one zone is in alarm 24H. If this event is associated the activation of an output, this output can be programmed as static or impulsive; if it is static follows the plug (logical OR between inputs 24H), while if it is impulsive it turns off after the programmed time. 5.8- Sensors block This feature allows you to avoid false alarms caused by radiofrequency of the transmitter on the inputs. Checking the appropriate parameters for each input, every time the radio communicator is transmitting: - all variations of the input are ignored for the set time (Sensors Block Time, default 10 seconds); - BS output (Block Sensors) remains active for the duration of that time. Pag. 19 Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description IRS-CB 5.9- Zone exclusion - forced arming On some occasions, upon arming of the system it will also be necessary to exclude an alarmed zone. Examples: - a faulty sensor remains in a permanently alarmed state (and the system needs arming, waiting for the replacement of the sensor); - during the summer months, one may want to arm the system, while keeping a contact protected window open. A forced arming is the arming of the system when one or more zones are alarmed. The system will notify that one or more zones are alarmed, and the arming procedure must be repeated. SPECIAL CASES OF ARMING WITH AN ALARMED ZONE SHARED BY MORE PARTITIONS: • Delayed zone • Non MASTER arming of an PARTITION other than the last one: During the arming of the partitions it belongs to, the alarm condition is not notified and the zone is not activated. • Non MASTER arming of the last PARTITION: During the arming of the partitions it belongs to, the alarm condition is not notified but the zone is activated. Zone restore is required within the leaving time. • MASTER arming of any partition: During the arming of the partitions it belongs to, the alarm condition is not notified but the zone is activated. Zone restore is required within the leaving time. • Non delayed zone (that can or cannot be excluded) • Non MASTER arming of an PARTITION other than the last one: When alarming one of the partitions the zone belongs to, the zone alarm condition is notified. The user is therefore obliged to continue with forced arming, even if the zone will not be excluded or activated. • Non MASTER arming of the last PARTITION: When alarming one of the partitions the zone belongs to, the zone alarm condition is notified. The user is therefore obliged to continue with forced arming and the zone will be excluded and activated. • MASTER arming of any PARTITION: When alarming the partition the zone belongs to, the zone alarm condition is notified. The user is therefore obliged to continue with forced arming and the zone will be excluded and activated. WARNING! A delayed zone cannot be excluded (a control system prevents exclusion). NOTICE Note. The balanced zones that are in the state of Sabotage are not considered in alarm; is the same for the wireless sensors. Each time a zone is excluded, the relevant event is generated. Pag. 20 IRS-CB Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description 5.10- Automatic re-including zones For the exclusion of a zone, since version 1.0.4 you can choose the operation of the area in 3 different ways: • NO (not auto-disabling zone) The zone is not excludible through forced arming. • Single The zone excluded by a forced arming, remains excluded until the next arming. • Auto The zone excluded by a forced arming, turns back active automatically when at rest state. All are valid only for wired inputs and for magnetic sensors (Door and Aux section). 5.11- Zone disabling The manual exclusion of a zone (disabling), is an operation carried out using the keypad or from the program. It makes the zone permanently non active. A disabled zone can be reactivated using the same procedure. Each time a zone is excluded, the relevant event is generated. For more details on zone disabling refer to the section Keypad Operations. 5.12- Outputs The BiTech control unit has 8 (expandible to 24) ground referred (GND) open collector outputs, capable of driving up to 100mA. The outputs can be either Static or monostable, depending on their use. All outputs can be activated based on internal states of the control unit, to notify system Events (refer to the section Events in the Programming chapter), or can be used as remote controls activated by the Operating Centre. This operations can be carried out also using a telephone. Outputs not used to notify system events can be used for remote control operation and be enabled from the Operating Control Station or by telephone remote control. In the latter case, only outputs 1 to 8 can be used. 5.13- Wireless sensors The BiTech IRS-CB control unit supports a special range of Wireless sensors and devices. This is a proprietary synchronized radio system with time division, that enables obtaining a continuous Bi-directional connection between the Control Unit and the devices. Brief operation description The BiTech system is based on a Sicep proprietary protocol. Communications are in synchronized mode. This means that each device has its own “time window”, within a 2 seconds cycle, for communication with the control unit. This brings special advantages: • important savings on the battery, because each sensor only activates the receiver (and transmitter) for a very short fraction of the cycle. • real supervision of the sensors and sensor’s “intelligent” operation. • total freedom from collision, resulting in optimum utilisation of the radio channel. The BiTech system IRS-CB supports up to 28 devices (including several types of sensors, remote controls and keypads) and a maximum of 4 repeaters, which can be used to reach the sensors and devices positioned in less favourable locations. Each Wireless sensor (with the exception of the REP), is powered by a 3.6 V AA Lithium battery. Pag. 21 Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description IRS-CB System code or Serial Number Each BiTech control unit has a unique serial number (generated at random rather than in sequence), which is assigned during the manufacturing stage. This number identifies the equipment, cannot be changed, and ensures that each sensor will only work with the equipment to which it has been assigned. It is nevertheless possible to delete a sensor from one equipment, and assign it to another one. When a sensor is purchased, this can simply be assigned to the control unit using a simple automatic procedure. No programming is necessary on the sensor as all operating parameters are programmed on the control unit. Once the programming operation is completed, the control unit will transfer the programmed information to the sensor. 5.14- Testing the Quality of the Connection During the programming procedure, a diagnostic tools in the BiTech can be used to test the quality of the radio connection. How the test works The control unit sends a series of information request messages of varying strengths to the testing sensor. A conventional value from 0 to 100% will then be assigned depending on the confirmed messages and the strength level used. Connections equal or above 75% can be considered acceptable. Good connections are equal or above 85%, while very good connections are 95% at least. In the case of a test of an REP repeated device (or 2 cascaded REP), only the section between the device and the closest REP is tested. For intermediate sections simply repeat the same test for the two REP. 5.15- BT-IRW Indoor infrared sensor This is a passive indoor infrared sensor with 12m coverage. Various types of lens are available, depending on their use. The sensor is powered by a 3.6V lithium battery and has an autonomy of 2 years. Special parameters, such as the ones below, can be programmed from the control unit: - Partition/s the sensor belongs to: associates the sensor to the desired partition. - Enabling: enables deactivation of the sensor if needed. - Internal: if enabled, the sensor only becomes active if the partition it belongs to is working in total mode. Otherwise the sensor only operates as a perimetric sensor. - Delayed: it defines if the operating mode is delayed (based on the times programmed for the partition it belongs to) or immediate. - Sensitivity: this parameter enables changing the sensor strength, increasing immunity to false alarms. - Number of pulses: This parameter is used to increase immunity to false alarms. - Alarms: this is the number of alarm cycles it can generate. Once the limit has been reached, the sensor will no longer generate alarms until the partition it belongs to is rearmed. - Silent: if activated, the acoustic signal is inhibited when an alarm is generated. - Test: if activated, when the sensor is alarmed, no alarm is generated. The only acknowledgement is in the Synoptic (MVC programming) and the alarm is memorized in the system log. - Enable high consumption control: when this is enabled, the number of transmissions is counted on a weekly basis and you are notified if the number exceeds the limit for normal use. For more information please refer to the section entitled "Statistics" on page 59. Pag. 22 IRS-CB Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description Light signals: The sensor is fit with two LEDs, one red and one green. The LEDs satisfy various functions: - to check if the device has been registered - to check the communication with the control unit - Walk-Test. Using LEDs during set-up To check registration up press the RESET button: LED Description Green – 5 short beams: Sensor not set up (new or cancelled) Green + Red – On: Sensor has been registered Using the LEDs with the Control Unit in maintenance mode LED Description Red – On: Detection of movement or RF transmission Green – On: Confirmation of reception from the Control Unit and/or REP The LEDs are off during normal operation (to save battery power) For information refer to the chapter Installation. 5.16- BT-IRE outdoor infrared sensor This outdoor infrared sensor comes in two versions: with steerable front beam (BT-IRE.001) or dual beam (BT-IRE.002). The sensor is powered by a 3.6V lithium battery and has a lifespan of 2 years. Light signals: The sensor features two LEDs, one red and one green (that can only be seen when the sensor is open), and a piezoelectric buzzer. The LEDs serve several purposes: - For checking whether the device is registered on the system - For checking communication with the control unit. The buzzer is activated automatically for a Walk-Test when the system is in maintenance mode Pag. 23 Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description IRS-CB Using LEDs during set-up To check registration up press the RESET button: LED Description Green – 5 short beams: Sensor not set up (new or cancelled) Green + Red – On: Sensor has been registered Using the LEDs with the Control Unit in maintenance mode LED Description Red – On: Detection of movement or transfer Green – On: Confirmation from the Control Unit and/or REP The LEDs are off during normal operation (to save battery power) For information refer to the chapter Installation. 5.17- BT-CMW Magnetic Sensor This is a Wireless magnetic contact which can be fully considered a multizone sensor. It includes: - the main magnetic contact (DOOR) - shock detection inertial sensor (INERTIAL) - terminal blocks for connection to a rolling shutter sensor (ROLLING SHUTTER) - terminal blocks for auxiliary wired magnetic contact (AUX) Also fitted with an anti-removal, Tamper micro switch. The sensor is powered by a 3.6V lithium battery and has an autonomy of 2 years. How it works - As far as the assigning of the partition the sensor belongs to, the four detection sections are grouped in pairs: “Door and Inertial“ and ”Rolling Shutter and Aux“ While the “Door and Inertial” can be programmed as internal zones (either both or none), “Rolling Shutter and Aux” can only be Perimetric zones. These two groups can also be assigned to different partitions. - Once it has given the alarm, the Rolling Shutter section has a rearming time of 5 seconds. - Once it has given the alarm, the Inertial section has a rearming time of 5 seconds. - If the “Door Delay” parameter has been activated on the device and the device belongs to an partition with Input/Output times other than 0, only the main magnetic sensor is delayed (DOOR) A special case occurs when the magnetic sensor fitted on the entrance door of the house is configured with the “Door Delay” parameter and the inertial has not been disabled. In this situation, it is normal that when closing and opening the door, the inertial will initiate an alarm event. This situation is resolved as follows: 1) Upon recognition of an abnormal condition of the inertial sensor (door shock), a 10 seconds pre-alarm period will start, after which period the concerned partition will enter an alarm condition. 2) Opening the door (main magnetic contact), will delete all preliminary alarm conditions due to the inertial sensor of the device. 3) Upon closing the door (main magnetic contact) all alarms due to the inertial sensor will be ignored for a period of 10 seconds. 4) All alarm situations caused by the inertial sensors after the 10 second period from the closing of the door, will generate an alarm delayed by 10 seconds. Pag. 24 IRS-CB Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description 5) The inertial sensor is disabled if the partition it belongs to is disarmed. By following these rules we can deduct that: 1) The inertial sensor generates an alarm 10 seconds after the shock, only if the door is not open during this time. 2) The inertial sensor only becomes active 10 seconds after the door has closed. NOTICE Notes: - A delayed device (DOOR/AUX) cannot be excluded. - If the partition it belongs to is armed with the door contact open, the partition will enter an alarm condition when entering or exiting. - The alarm events counter (Infinite, 1, 3, 5) relates to the single event: for example, if it is set on 3 alarms, 3 alarms will be counted independently for the door, 3 for the rolling shutter, 3 for the inertial and 3 for the auxiliary contact. - The sensor is always considered alarmed when at least one of the sections is alarmed. - If not used, the rolling shutter terminal blocks can be left unconnected, while the AUX terminal blocks can be short-circuited or the AUX section of the sensor can be simply disabled. Special parameters, such as the ones below, can be programmed from the control unit: - Enabling: enables deactivation of the sensor if needed. - Partition/s the sensor belongs to: it associates the sensor to the desired partition. As already shown, the four sections are grouped. - Door Enabled: enable/disable the main magnetic contact (Door) - Door Delay: it establishes if the operating mode of the main contact (DOOR) is delayed (based on the times set for the partition it belongs to) or immediate. - Internal (Door/Inertial): if enabled, the Door/Inertial sections only becomes active when the partition they belong to is in Total mode. Otherwise all other sections operate as Perimetric sections. - Door Excludible (No, Single, Auto): if enabled, the main magnetic contact becomes excludible (only if the sensor is not delayed). - Auxiliary Enabled: Enables/Disables the terminal box input for auxiliary connection (AUX). - Auxiliary Delay: it establishes if the operating mode of the auxiliary connection (AUX) is delayed (based on the times set for the partition it belongs to) or immediate. - Auxiliary Excludible (No, Single, Auto): if enabled, the auxiliary magnetic contact becomes excludible. - Number of Rolling Shutter pulses: this parameter is used to adjust the rolling shutter sensitivity. - Rolling shutter restore time (seconds): the time after which, if the number of pulses received is below the alarm threshold, the impulse counter is reset. The most suitable value depending on the sensor used must be found. - Test: the Test can be enabled separately for the four sections. Once activated, alarming of the sensor for the section will not cause an alarm: the alarm will only be shown in the Synoptic (MVC programming) and the alarm is memorized in the system log. - Alarms: It sets the maximum number of alarms that can be generated by the sensor. Once the limit has been reached, the partition the sensor belongs to needs to be disarmed and rearmed to reactivate the sensor itself. Setting this function to “infinite” will disable it. NOTICE Note: Alarms are counted separately for each section (Door, Inertial, Rolling shutter, Aux). Pag. 25 Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description IRS-CB - Inert. Sensitivity: This parameter is used to adjust sensitivity, and therefore to increase immunity to false alarms. It also enables deactivating the inertial. - Bell: when enabled, an acoustic signal (beep) is generated by the wired keypads every time the sensor is alarmed, even when the system is disarmed. This function will be extended to the inertial if the partition the inertial belongs to is armed. - Silent: if activated, the siren is inhibited when an alarm is generated. - Enable high consumption control: when this is enabled, the number of transmissions is counted on a weekly basis and you are notified if the number exceeds the limit for normal use. For more information please refer to the section entitled "Statistics" on page 59. Light signals The sensor is fit with two LEDs, one red and one green. It includes: - the main magnetic contact (DOOR) - terminal blocks for auxiliary wired magnetic contact (AUX) Also fitted with Tamper micro switch but not anti-removal switch. The sensor is powered by a 3.6V lithium battery and has an autonomy of 2 years. How it works The Control Unit see the sensor like a BT-CMW, but Rolling Shutter and Inertial section are not enable. The main contact (DOOR) may can be Internal, but auxiliary contact (AUX) can only be Perimetric zone; all sections can be delayed. Pag. 26 IRS-CB Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description NOTICE Notes: - A delayed device (DOOR/AUX) cannot be excluded. However it has fewer functions than the cabled keypad. This keypad allows to: • Arm/disarm all system Partitions • Disable zones • Make emergency calls (Fire, Panic, Medical) by pressing one button. • Control the activation of a programmable output • Test the sensors • Switch the system to Maintenance mode (by using the special Installer’s password) The display of the zones and users is by means of codes (e.g. zone1, zone2, user1 etc.) and not by means of programmed names. This keypad also has a special battery save function, which will switch it to a low consumption mode 15 minutes after the last button is pressed. In order to optimize consumption the Exit/Entry Time buzzer operates as follows: - Entry time: always working, on all keypads. - Exit time: only works on the radio keypad where arming was activated from. For these operations refer to the user manual, in the Keypad Operations section. Special parameters, such as the ones below, can be programmed from the control unit: - Enabling: enables/disables the keypad. - Visible partitions: these flags enable limiting the visibility of the partition state when the keypad door is open. - Quick arming: set the quick arming partition . - Function Key: It assign the activation of the desired output to the key . The output can be activated in bistable or Monostable - Enable high consumption control: when this is enabled, the number of transmissions is counted on a weekly basis and you are notified if the number exceeds the limit for normal use. For more information please refer to the section entitled "Statistics" on page 59. When on, it indicates that a radio confirmation has been received by the Control Unit and/or REP. 5.20- BT-KT Remote Control The BiTech Bi-directional remote control uses a special protocol that enables it to automatically find the best communication radio path to the control unit. This means that if there is a system also using REPs, the remote control establishes the radio path to follows based on its position at the time. In doing so, it will decide if to go or not through a REP. It’s operation is similar to the keys: it is possible to know the state of only one partition, the programmed one, and of course to also change its status. It also allows transmission of a programmable alarm (e.g. panic), and activating of a programmable output. Light signals (LED): Each LED will only come on for a short time, to help save battery as much as possible. Pag. 29 Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description IRS-CB 5.21- BT-SIR radio siren This is a self-powered viaradio siren for the BiTech system. Special improvements and use of a 3.6V 13Ah lithium battery help to minimize energy consumption and guarantee a lifespan of two years before the battery needs to be replaced. The flashing light comprises a high luminosity LED and the acoustic transducer is piezoelectric. There are also the following anti-sabotage devices: - Anti-opening and anti-removal device - Anti-foam device - Fire-prevention temperature control - Inertial sensor for the burglary alarm circuit There are three buttons: - SIR. CHECK: press and hold for a few seconds to perform a visual/sound test on the siren. - TEST: press to perform a radio connection test and to register/cancel the siren on the system. - RESET: press to perform a general reset of the siren. The recorded settings will not be cancelled. The flashing light features a red LED for the alarm memory function. As with other BiTech viaradio devices, the settings are programmed on the control unit. The settings and functions are as follows: - Alarm sound: allows you to choose from 4 sounds for the Burglary/Tampering alarms. The fire alarm already has its own dedicated sound. - Volume: three options. - PART.(s): associates the activation of the siren to the required partition(s). - Temperature threshold control: the siren sounds a tampering alarm when it detects a sudden increase in temperature (about 30°C in 6-8 seconds). - Anti-foam control: when enabled, the siren controls the closure of several microswitches at the points where the sound is emitted. - Burglar-proof sensitivity: enables and determines the sensitivity of the vibration control on 3 levels. - Flashing light for alarm: enables the flashing light when there is an alarm (burglary, tampering or fire). - Flashing light for activated system: enables the red LED (it flashes twice every 6 seconds) when at least one of the associated areas is activated. - Alarm memory: enables the red LED (it flashes once every 3 seconds) when the siren carries out an alarm cycle since the last deactivation. This function has priority over the flashing light for activated system. - Pre-alarm: if enabled, the pre-alarm flashes in a particular way during the admission time, when a delayed sensor or area is in alarm mode. - Test button: allows you to carry out a sound and light test on the siren. 5.22- BT-PRW wireless TAG reader This device allows the access for the management of the system simply using special cards and key, called TAG; it is able to manage all the functions of arm/disarm total or perimetric and of opening door. It is powered by two lithium batteries 3.6 V and has an autonomy of 2 years. The reader has 4 soft buttons to do the various operations, the keys are backlit with multi-colored LEDs. The reader allows you to arm and disarm the area according to the function associated to the TAG; it is also possible enable or disable the feature of opening door. This function serves to activate an output (pulsed o static) to be connected to the command of the electric lock using an output of the Pag. 30 IRS-CB Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description panel control or the relay of 6A mounted on the reader. It is also possible to see the status of a predefined area, without, however, prevent access to other TAG associated to different areas. The reader is protected against opening and removing; is supplied in IP40 indoor box. If is enabled only the function of door opener, it runs automatically to the reading of TAG, without having to press the appropriate button. • In the case of arming with immediate zones in alarm, entry is denied (bar at the top red); push again the button to forced the arming. • To do the Quick arming (time to exit deleted), press again the button. Pag. 31 Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description IRS-CB The continuous display of the state of the area, if programmed, is using the flash of the light present on the top of the bar. The lighting of the bar shows the following information: Light bar color RED GREEN Flashing RED Description not recognized Tag (unregistered) – Arming system denied – TAG recognized – Operation done The area associated with the reader is armed – As with other radio devices Bitech, the programming of parameters is done with the panel control. These parameters are: - Door Opener - (Disable/Output1..Output8, local relay) Associated to the function door opener the output required. Warning! If you install the reader outdoor, the relay for door opener should only be used if the area which gives the access is protected. - Area to be displayed - (None/Partition1..Partition4) allows you to see continuously the state - of the area through the blinking of the bar at the top. Buzzer Enable - Enables / disables the internal buzzer Enable anti-removal - Enables / disables the alarm of removing External - If enabled, the input does not activate the exit time, the zones delayed are activated immediately. Enabled - Allows you to disable the device without deleting it from the panel control. 5.23- BT-REP Radio Repeater The BiTech system is compatible with repeaters (REP) for easy reach of sensor placed in non favourable zones in relation to the control unit. Up to 4 REP can be used, including in cascade mode (2 jump max for each section). How they work REP Repeaters are special units programmed to repeat the Wireless commands from BiTech network devices placed in non favourable zones. REPs are powered by the 230Vac power supply and contain two Ni-Mh emergency batteries (AC loss). These are recharged and tested regularly following a procedure that ensures optimum usage (for example to eliminate the so-called “memory effect”). Each device that needs repeating must be recorded on the REP through which it needs to transit, using a simple learning procedure. This ensures a fixed radio path and no collisions or pointless repetitions on the radio channel. Pag. 32 IRS-CB Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description The BiTech system supports up to 4 REPs, which can also be used in cascade mode, but only with a maximum of 2 jumps for each section (see drawing). Rep1 Rep2 Rep3 Rep4 How they are used As already explained, each radio device (Keypad, Infrared sensor, Magnetic sensor, Remote control) must be paired to the control unit. The same applies to the REP. Therefore each new REP must be paired with the system. All devices that will transit on the REP, will also have to be paired with the REP itself. This does not however include remote controls, which have a special network access protocol that ensures that they automatically look and follow the best path. Let’s analyse this in more details, with some installation examples. Example 1 - Let's pretend that we have installed the control unit and three sensors, as shown in the picture. The sensors have been registered on the control unit. S3 S1 S2 C - If we now test the quality of the connections, we realise that sensor no. 3 is difficult to reach. We can therefore install a REP in an intermediate position to reach sensor no. 3. - We now need to test the signal quality of the REP to control unit connection to ensure that the REP’s position can be reached correctly. - Once installed and paired to the control unit (REP 1), sensor 3 must be also paired to REP 1. This will ensure that sensor 3 will only transit through REP 1. - We now need to test the quality of the connection of sensor 3 and the REP, to ensure that this is also satisfactory. Pag. 33 S3 R1 S1 S2 C Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description IRS-CB Example 2 - Following on the previous example, let’s now pretend that we are installing a further sensor (sensor 4). S3 S4 R1 S1 S2 C - Let's measure the signal quality (direct connection): the sensor cannot be reached. - We pair sensor 4 to REP1 so that the signal travels through the sensor. Let's measure the quality again: it's still too low. We can now install another REP (REP 2) and set a new jump. The procedure is as follows: - Record the new REP (REP2) on the control unit. - Record REP 2 on REP 1 - Delete sensor 4 from REP 1. - Record sensor 4 on REP 2. We now need to recheck the quality of the signal for sensor 4, to ensure that all is working correctly. NOTICE R2 S3 S4 R1 S1 S2 C Notes: - It is not permitted to register a device on a REP when the device has already been recorded to another REP. Any attempts to do so will fail. - Registering 3 REPs using in cascade is not permitted. Any attempts to do so will result in the last registration to fail. For the registration and cancellation of the devices on the REP, see the paragraph on page 62. REP Features The BT-REP includes an integrated power supply and two NI-Mh rechargeable buffer batteries. It includes an anti tamper switch (tamper), some LEDs and tree buttons for its testing, recording and cancellation, and for the testing, recording and cancellation of the connected devices. AC Mains loss The REP will warn of ac loss by sending relevant messages. These are also recorded in the IRS-CB control unit event log. The event is generated in situations of power loss for 1 hour at least. Radio jamming The REP is capable of detecting and transmitting conditions of radio jamming in exactly the same way as the IRS-CB control unit. The delay before generating the alarm is the same as the delay set for the control unit. Battery Test A special and complex procedure ensures optimum charging of the batteries and the regular testing of their capacity. Pag. 34 IRS-CB Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description How the test works The recharging stage is shown by the LED test: LED Battery Test Description – – Flashing fast: Main recharge (impulsive) Flashing slowly: maintenance recharge (duration 24 hours) Each time the battery goes below 2.2V (nominal voltage 2.4V), recharging starts automatically. Batteries are recharged in impulse mode (approx. 90 mA), for an amount of time depending on the event initiating the recharging process (in case of full recharge: 16 hours). Once this process is completed, full charge is achieved using 5mA maintenance power for 24 hours. Every 30 days, if the power supply is present, the repeater will disconnect from the power supply and for a certain amount of time will be fed from the battery. If during this process, the battery level falls below 2.2V, a full recharging process starts or, at the end of the period, a recharging process proportional to the consumption during the test will commence. Forcing the batteries to charge It is possible to manually force the battery to charge fully, by pressing the TEST+CANC buttons for 10 seconds. This is useful when the batteries are replaced. 5.24- Key reader The BiTech control unit can use key readers in 2 different operating modes: Simple and Advanced. These settings can be selected for each reader. The operating mode of each reader is established by associating it or not to a specific partition. Simple mode In this mode, the reader is associated to a specific Partition and can only operate on that partition. All operations can only be carried out using keys that have been programmed for that partition. Displaying the reader status in Simple mode (With this mode the reader is permanently associated to one partition). Advanced Mode In this mode the reader can operate on all partitions depending on the key used for access. Pag. 35 Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description IRS-CB Displaying the reader status in Advanced mode without key inserted. Displaying the reader status in Advanced mode with key inserted 5.25- Keys Up to 16 keys can be used. Each key must be assigned to a partition and the Master or Non Master operating mode must be defined. A security check will generate an alarm signal if a key not recognised by the system is entered (Invalid Key event). Each key has its own individual id number. For this reason each key can also be set to work on more BiTech systems. Simple-mode key operations Inserting a registered key in a reader will cause: - Disarming of the partition, if the partition was armed (in total or perimetric mode): - “Perimetric”, “total”, “disarmed”, rotation if the partition was unarmed. By removing the key during rotation, the selected command will be executed and the result will be displayed for a period of 3 seconds. If a non registered key is inserted in the reader, no operation will be carried out (but the invalid key event will be generated). Advanced-mode key operations When a registered key is inserted in a reader, the status of the partition the key relates to is displayed. Quickly removing and replacing the key (within 4 seconds from status display) will cause: - Disarming of the partition, if the partition was armed (in total or perimetric mode): - “Perimetric”, “total”, “disarmed”, rotation if the partition was disarmed. By removing the key during rotation, the selected command will be executed and the result will be displayed for a period of 3 seconds. 1 The partition is not fully armed due to one or more zones/devices, being shared with other disarmed partitions. 2 The partition is Disarmed, but some shared zones/devices have been activated by a Master arming of another partition. Pag. 36 IRS-CB Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description If a non registered key is inserted in the reader, no operation will be carried out (but the Invalid Key Event will be generated). 5.26- BT-KPA / BT-KPE keypads The BiTech system can use up to 4 BT-KPA / KT-KPE wired keypads. These are capable to manage the whole system from different position. The wired keypads are connected to the Control unit using the 485 BUS line. Both keypads have: • function buttons dedicated to the main function, allowing a simple management of the whole system. These include: total arming, perimetric arming, disarming, exclusion and menu. Pag. 42 IRS-CB Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description 5.32- Events Log This log can be accessed from the MVC PC programming or from the keypad. In this last case, an event type filtering function is also available. Only the events for functions which can be assessed with the access password used can be displayed. Example: 5.33- Events Disabled Zone/Device This becomes active when at least one zone or device (wired or Wireless) has been disabled. This applies both if the operation has been completed during MVC programming or from the keypad. Partition Alarm 1..4 This becomes active when the relevant partition is alarmed. The event can only be generated if the partition is armed. If the event is associated with the activation of an output, the behaviour will be different depending on its setting, static or Monostable: - Static: The output deactivates after the siren sound. - Monostable: The output disabled after the set time. Arming/disarming of Partition 1..4 This becomes active when the relevant partition is armed in total mode. If the event is associated with the activation of an output, the behaviour will be different depending on the setting, static or Monostable: - Static: the output deactivates when the partition is disarmed. - Monostable the output is not stable; flashing will continue while the partition is armed. The duration of the active state is equal to the set time. Wire devices sabotage It becomes active when a wired sensor with balanced connection enters a sabotage state (cut or shorted cable). RS485 Tamper It becomes active when the Tamper of a wired device on the RS485 Bus is open (wired keypad, BT-EX8 expansions). RF sensors Tamper It becomes active when the Tamper of a Wireless device is open (Wireless keypad, Siren, REP, CMW, IRW and IRE sensor). Panel tamper It becomes active when the container of the IRS-CB Control Unit is open or the unit itself has been removed from the wall. Fire It becomes active when the fire alarm is detected. If the event is associated with the activation of an output, this is set to Monostable mode, because the event cannot be restored. Pag. 43 Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description IRS-CB Panic It becomes active when the panic alarm is detected. If the event is associated with the activation of an output, this is set to Monostable mode, because the event cannot be restored. Medical Attention It becomes active when the medical attention alarm is detected. If the event is associated with the activation of an output, this is set to Monostable mode, because the event cannot be restored. Control Unit Battery It becomes active when the power supply is missing and the battery is below the safety limit of 11V; RF sensors Battery It becomes active when the battery of a Wireless sensor is below the minimum safety limit. The test is carried out during maximum consumption (sensor transmitting); the limits are as follows: magnetic, Infrared sensors, Siren, Wireless keypad and TAG reader: 2.7V; remote control: 6V; REP: 2V. AC Mains loss It becomes active when the power supply is missing for a period of time longer than the set time. This only apply if the buffer battery is present. This event can be disabled by setting the time to 0. Malfunctioning of the RF sensor The sensor is activated when an RF device is in one of the modes described below. The "Critical" and "Excessive Consumption" threshold checks take place at 00:00 every day and begin three days after the device is installed. For more information on this please refer to the paragraph entitled "Statistics" on page 59. • ABSENT - the device has not been connected to the control unit for longer than the set time, according to the Lost RF Device Recognition parameter. Reactivation occurs when the first transmission arrives. • CRITICAL - the device has transmitted less than 1000 presences in the last week, or a significant percentage of the transmissions received (25%) is carried out via "Mesh" packages. Reactivation occurs upon reaching 1100 weekly presences in the first case, or when the percentage of "Mesh" packages drops below 20% of the weekly total. • TOO MUCH CONSUMPTION: the device has made more than 2400 transmissions in the past week. This control can be disabled for each device. RS485 Loss It becomes active when the control unit is unable to detect any communication with a device connected to the RS485 BUS. It can be due to a device fault or a cable cut. The event is generated within a few seconds from the detection of the fault. RF jamming It becomes active when the radio receiver detects a prolonged interference on the radio channel; the event is generated at the expiry of the set time. This event can also be generated if the interference is detected by a BT-REP repeater. Duress It becomes active when an Arming or Disarming operation is preceded by the relevant button. If the event is associated with the activation of an output, this is set to Monostable mode, because the event cannot be restored. Wrong password It becomes active after the wrong password has been entered for the fifth time. If the event is associated with the activation of an output, this is set to Monostable mode, because the event cannot be restored. Pag. 44 IRS-CB Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description Invalid key It becomes active when a non registered key is inserted in a key reader; this event is initiated immediately. If the event is associated with the activation of an output, this is set to Monostable mode, because the event cannot be restored. Tel. Line fault It becomes active when a fault in the telephone line continues for a period of time exceeding the set time. This event can be disabled by setting the time to 0. Excluded zone It is activated when one or more zones are excluded during activation (forced activation). If the event is associated with the activation of an output, this is kept activated (static) until the area is deactivated. There is no reset if the event is transmitted via the communicator. Alarmed Zone It becomes active when any non delayed zone or radio sensor enters the alarmed state. This event can also be generated when the partitions are disarmed. It needs to be remembered that in this case, both IRW sensors and the inertial section of magnetic sensors are disabled. This does not apply when the system is in maintenance mode. Maintenance It becomes active when the control panel is in maintenance mode. The sirens and all communicator are disabled. The keypad emits a beep every 10 seconds. All the radio devices activate the red and green radio communication and alarm recognition LEDs. Once the panel cover is closed, the control panel leaves automatically the maintenance mode after a minute. The control panel can be set in maintenance mode only if all partitions are disarmed. Antenna cut The IRS-CB control unit has a triple Antenna Cut control: Antenna Resistance, Confirmation Control, Reception Control. In all cases, the Antenna Cut event causes the activation of an output or sends a transmission on the telephone line (with optional card). • Antenna Resistance: This control can only be used with "DC-Short" antennas. This type of antenna results as being in short circuit for continuous current, so that by cutting the sty lus or unscrew ing the antenna from the peripheral, the alarm is gen er ated automatically. • Confirmation Control: The peripheral checks that each transmission is followed by confirmation from the Operational Control Unit (or from the REP it transits on). If the result is negative, at the end of the repetitions, the antenna is considered cut. • Reception Control: This control is particularly efficient for a very crowded radio channel and is based on the assumption that the peripheral must receive a communication between the Operational Control Unit and any peripheral (with programmed protocol) within a set time limit. As a consequence, each time the peripheral receives a transmission, the counter is cleared and the count begins again. If the time expires, the behaviour differs according to the protocol used. In the case of the high speed MVS protocol, the peripheral makes a test transmission to the Operational Control Unit. If the Control Unit confirms, timing is cleared, otherwise the antenna is considered cut. For all the other low speed protocols (Sicep, Compatible), it is not possible to make a test transmission to the Operational Control Unit, therefore when the time expires, the antenna will be considered cut. Event 24H It is active when at least one zone in 24H mode is in alarm. If this event is associated the activation of an output, this output can be programmed as static or impulsive; if it is static follows the plug (logical OR between inputs 24H), while if it is impulsive it turns off after the programmed time. Pag. 45 Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description IRS-CB 5.34- Other functions Bell A "bell" function is available. This can be enabled on any zone and warns of the alarmed status of the zone by means of a "beep", even when the system is disarmed. For example, it can be activated on the door magnetic contact to warn of its opening. Fire, Panic, Medical attention These functions make the associated zone a 24 hours zone and will send an event should an alarm event be triggered. The activation of the siren can be associated to each of these events. Temperature control This control safeguards the final transmitter stage. Each time that the peripheral has to transmit, the temperature of the final transisstor is controlled. If this is between 80 and 100°C, the power is reduced by 1 step (e.g. if 10W is set, it is reduced to 5W). If the temperature is higher than 100°C, the power level is reduced to 1W. Installation test The IRS-CB control unit has a special help function for the installer. By pressing button P2, the IRS-CB enters a mode in which the power in transmission mode is reduced to 1W and the signal in reception mode is attenuated 10 times (10dB) for 6 minutes. While this function is being activated, the REP LED flashes on the peripheral. The test may be interrupted by pressing button P2 again. Battery (Continuous Test) The microprocessor measures the power voltage continuously. If the power supply unit is out of order, when the voltage drops below 10.5V, the battery is considered low. The red BATT LED comes on. When the voltage returns to 12.5V, reactivation occurs. According to the protocol used, the following cases may arise: - if using the high speed MVS protocol or a compatible protocol, the battery already has an associated channel; - if using the low speed Sicep protocol, it is necessary to associate the Battery event with a channel from 1 to 6. Warning! If the battery is missing or results as being low from the periodic test, reactivation depends on the latter. Actual battery capacity (Periodic Test) The peripheral performs a periodic test, connecting an appropriate load on the battery. If the battery is missing or its capacity insufficient, the low battery report is transmitted (if associated with a channel). In this condition, reactivation can only take place if the battery results as being in good condition at the next test. The test is performed at a frequency which can be programmed between 1 and 30 days. The test can be interrupted or postponed if: - Mains power is missing. The test is postponed by 1 hour; - The temperature of the device exceeds 75°C. The test is suspended and resumes when the temperature has dropped below 55°C. Warning! To replace the battery, consult the information in the Installation chapter on page 54. Pag. 46 IRS-CB Cap. 5 - Operation: detailed description SWR Measurement Function This function is available from MVC programming and allows the SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) to be measured, thanks to the incorporated directional coupler. In this way, it is possible to optimise the length of the antenna or its position until finding the minimum SWR value. To take the measurement, set the transmission power to at least 5W and set the Type parameter on the Radio Page to Radio Test (see page 103) and press the Test button. Warning! if the final transistor is kept in continuous transmission mode, it may heat up excessively, therefore it is necessary to alternate pauses with the measurements in order to allow cooling. In any case, a special function automatically reduces the power when the temperature reaches 80°C. CAUTION! to safeguard the final transmitter stage, the SWR must be lower than 2. 5.35- Connected Siren The BiTech control unit uses various types of siren: Siren with balanced line control The free contacts of a 1A relay (COM, NA, NC) are available for this siren. Self-powered Siren A relay output (SIR-A) is included for this type of siren, which provides a +12V power voltage, which is missing during activation. The maximum power supply delivered is limited to 70mA. Interior Siren A relay output (SIR-I) is included for this type of siren, which provides a +12V supply during activation. The maximum current delivered is 800mA. The output is protected with a self restoring fuse. The control unit includes a function that limits the activation time of the siren: each time the siren goes on, the operating time is counted. When a maximum time of 20 minutes is reached due to repeated alarms, the siren is disabled. Rearming occurs the first time one of the partitions is disarmed. Pag. 47 Cap. 6 - Radio communicator and telephone backup IRS-CB 6 - Radio communicator and telephone backup This control unit can operate in various modes according to the type of radio protocol chosen and the type of operational control unit to operate on. MVS Protocol ⇒ MVS DATA9000 Operational Control Unit In this mode, each event to be transmitted must be assigned to a transmission channel between 1 and 99. It is advisable NOT to associate more than one event with the same transmission channel as, in this case, there is ambiguity in establishing the state of the individual events. The transmission channel, in fact, reassumes the state of 2 or more different events and the one which is in the alarm state will prevail, even if others are at rest. It is possible to enable/disable transmitting and reactivating the event. Not all events can be reactivated. When using this protocol, any transmission of backups on a telephone line takes place with the MVS/ID protocol. MVS Protocol ⇒ MvsNET Operational Control Unit In this mode, each event is transmitted with the innovative BTMVS protocol, which allows the Contact-ID information (event with an associated area, user or device) to be sent by radio vector. This new protocol allows the management of new queries such as the Request for Anomalous States. When using this protocol, any transmission of backups on a telephone line takes place with the standard Contact-ID protocol. Low speed protocols (Low speed Sicep, Compatibles) ⇒ All operational control units With these protocols, each event to transmit can be associated with channels 1..6 (low speed Sicep), channels 1..8 (compatible protocols) or channels 1..12 (compatible protocol 2, 12 channels) only. It is advisable NOT to associate more than one event with the same transmission channel as, in this case, there is ambiguity in establishing the state of the individual events. The transmission channel, in fact, reassumes the state of 2 or more different events and the one which is in the alarm state will prevail, even if others are at rest. When using this protocol, any transmission of backups on a telephone line takes place with the DTMF Ademco Superfast protocol. Limits of use • If a SD-RM concentrator (version lower than 4.2) is in use, it is not possible to use the BTMVS protocol or send the quality of the signal received. • In all the compatible protocols, it is not possible to transmit the absence of mains power via telephone backup. • Using the compatible 2 12 channel protocol, channels 9-12 cannot be transmitted via telephone backup. • It is only possible to receive the MVS/ID protocol with SD-CT, SD-T2 and DD-2 telephone receivers. Pag. 48 IRS-CB Cap. 6 - Radio communicator and telephone backup 6.1- MVS Protocol Management on MVSNet Control Units In this mode, the information transmitted by the communicator contains the same information transported by the Contact-ID protocol, on both the radio and telephone vector. Each message contains: - the control unit identification number (peripheral code); - a code which identifies the event, specifying whether it is an alarm or reactivation; - the area it belongs to if this is significant in the message; - a number which identifies the area or the user as shown in the table below: • 000 Control Unit (e.g. Tamper, No mains power) • 001- 024 Wired areas • 101- 104 REP • 109- 136 RF devices (sensors, radio controls, RF keyboards) • 301- 310 Devices on RS485 BUS • 501- 508 Access via user password • 510 Access via patrol password • 511 Operations performed from the operational control unit • 601- 616 Key access • 998 MVC (operations performed from the synoptic) • 999 System (operations performed automatically) Examples: - 001 is associated with wired area 1, 004 is associated with wired area 4. - 501 or 601 is associated with the Administrator user depending on whether operation is from the keyboard or key respectively. - The identification numbers of RS 485 and radio devices depend on the number assigned during programming: the third RS485 device will have 303 as its identification number, the seventh 307. Telephone Backup Management If the optional IF-TL is installed, the control unit is able to transmit the reports on the telephone line towards automatic telephone receivers. According to the radio protocol set, transmission may take place with the following formats: - Contact-ID - MVS/ID - DTMF Ademco Superfast. The message is always only transmitted once the number of transmission attempts programmed with the radio communicator, on both frequencies, has been made. At this point, a telephone transmission to recipient number one is routed. If this recipient does not respond or does not confirm receipt, at the end of the programmed attempts, the communicator moves on to telephone number two. It is not possible to send the telephone message to both recipients. It is possible to use different peripheral codes according to the recipient of the message. Pag. 49 Cap. 6 - Radio communicator and telephone backup IRS-CB In brief, in order to transmit any event, the communication priority is as follows: - Radio communicator, main frequency; - Radio communicator, secondary frequency (unless the number of programmed attempts is zero); - Telephone communicator, Backup 1 recipient; - Telephone communicator, Backup 2 recipient; The events are transmitted immediately via telephone backup only in the event that the control unit has detected that the antenna has been cut, using the "antenna re-closed to earth control". Current communicator state On the designated MVC programming page, certain warning lights indicate the state of the telephone communicator: Warning light Description Phone interface present – Line – – Green: interface present Red: interface not installed – Red: no line Green: line present Yellow: line in use (busy) TX – Green: transmission in progress RX – Green: reception in progress Red: confirmation not received – – Pag. 50 IRS-CB Cap. 7 - Installation 7 - Installation Below are the operations for the installation of the control unit and the whole of the Sicep BiTech system. It is recommended that these operations are completed in the sequence they are listed. 7.1- Opening the container To open the container: • Remove the 2 fixing screws on the lid. • Press the base of the container with both hands, as shown in the photo, in order to release the lid. 7.2- Installation of the optional devices IRS-RT868 BiTech Interface The insertion of this optional card allows the use of BiTech sensors and devices. - Switch the IRS-CB control unit off - Insert the radio module in the designated bases situated on the right-hand side of the logic card. The module must be inserted with the radio antenna facing upwards. CAUTION: The wrong installation can cause damages to the control unit and /or the card. BT-EX8 Expansions In order to increase the number of wired areas (and outputs), it is possible to connect up to 2 BT-EX8 expansion cards. Each card provides 8 inputs and 8 outputs. The 2 expansions can be installed inside the control unit container or inserted in a separate container and connected to the peripheral via the RS485 BUS. BT-EX8 Telephone line interface IF-TL TEL. P2 LINE P1 P25 P4 Installation - Switch the device off. - Insert the IF-TL card on the 40-pole connector as shown in the figure. It is impossible to insert it incorrectly thanks to the reference key on the connector. - Take the telephone line to connector P1 (on the right). The IRS-CB device will automatically recognise the presence of the card when it is switched on. Pag. 51 Cap. 7 - Installation IRS-CB 7.3- Choosing the location for installation of the control unit • The chosen location must first of all respect the environmental characteristics shown on page 11; The IRS-CB control unit is declared IP30 therefore it cannot be installed outdoors. The location must be dry and free from infiltrations of water and dust and sources of heat. • The antenna should not be assembled outside the building in order to prevent the cable from being cut. • The control unit container is not resistant to attempts to break into it, therefore it is advisable for the chosen location to be protected and that only authorised maintenance personnel have access. For optimum efficiency of the transceiver, the position of the antenna in relation to the surrounding obstacles is fundamental: • The upper floors of the building are preferable, in order to guarantee good radio range with the antenna fixed to the device itself. • installation is not recommended on reinforced concrete walls, in the immediate vicinity of metal structures or in proximity to electric cables. Keep a minimum distance of 1.5 m. • If there is no choice other than to install the control unit in the aforementioned situation, move the position of the antenna using a 50 Ohm coaxial cable, easily found, as shown in the table: Freq. Up to 5mt From 5 to 10mt From 10 to 25mt 156÷174MHz RG58 RG213 / RG223 H-100 / RT5020 430÷470MHz RG223 RG223 H-100 / RT5020 • The antenna can be fixed in its new position using the special ST-L/N support bracket. • To use the BiTech wireless sensors in the best way possible, do not install the devices in places which are particularly shielded (e.g. buildings whose walls are entirely made from reinforced concrete etc.). Installation Test Function (TX/RX Attenuation) The IRS-CB control unit has a special help function for the installer. SWR Measurement Function This function is available from MVC programming and allows the SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) to be measured, thanks to the incorporated directional coupler. In this way, it is possible to optimise the length of the antenna or its position until finding the minimum SWR value. To take the measurement, hold down button P1 on the peripheral in order to keep it in transmission mode. WARNING! if the final transistor is kept in continuous transmission mode, it may heat up excessively, therefore it is necessary to alternate pauses with the measurements in order to allow cooling. In any case, a special function automatically reduces the power when the temperature reaches 80°C. Pag. 52 IRS-CB Cap. 7 - Installation CAUTION: to safeguard the final transmitter stage, the SWR must be lower than 2. To determine the exact point where the control unit must be fixed, proceed as follows: • Power the device (preferably using batteries), program the frequencies and the protocol to use (including any REP/repeater bridges on which it must transmit); • Enter MVC programming mode; • Press button P2 to activate the attenuation function. The REP LED must start to flash; • Press button P1 (Connection Test). The peripheral will make a transmission to the operational control unit. • Read the signal value (RSSI parameter, last valid RX) on the General MVC programming page. 110 100 90 VHF RSSI Value 80 70 UHF 60 50 40 30 20 10 00 0,2 0,4 0,3 0,6 0,5 0,8 1 0,7 2 3 4 5 7 10 1,5 20 15 40 30 80 60 100 RX signal level (mV) • Move the peripheral to another position and repeat the operation until you find the one where it receives the maximum signal. Ensure that the REP LED is still flashing. If it is not, press button P2 again. The final reception value, when the attenuation function is active, must not be under 25 (UHF) or 32 (VHF), i.e. 5µv in normal conditions and 0.5µv when the Installation Test function is active. This procedure ensures a reasonable margin as regards the level of the radio signal. - Fix the control unit to the wall in the chosen position, using four screws with a diameter of 4mm. - As the IRS-CB control unit does not have a switch, must be installed a bipolar disconnector (switch) with contact opening of at least 3mm. - Connect the power supply cable as indicated in the drawing, GROUND cable Yellow/Green through the round hole near the terminal block. - Connect the yellow/green protective earth wire to the power supply central terminal; - Fix the cable using the designated detachable plastic cable clip and screws supplied. DANGER. A correct earthing to the building earthing system is essential for the safety of the users/operators and for the protection of the logic card from electric shocks coming from the line. The warranty does not cover the unit for electric shocks due to missing connection to the ground. Pag. 53 Cap. 7 - Installation IRS-CB - Cable all the other cables using the two rectangular holes to pass them through. It is advisable to short circuit all the unused inputs to earth (GND). Outside the container, all the cables must pass as far away as possible and at a right angle in relation to the antenna. - All wired detectors must be installed 2mt away from aerial of control panel, otherwise false alarms may occur during the radio transmission. +Vdc + N.C. - If relays are connected to the outputs, protect them using a diode (e.g. 1N4007) as shown in the figure. OUTPUT - Use the +12V output solely for powering low absorption N.O. devices (max 800mA). The output is protected by a Protection self-resetting fuse. Open diode Collector 1N4007 WARNING! Don’t use this output to power the control unit. - If the optional backup card is installed, bring the telephone line to the LINE connector and connect any telephone to the TELEPHONE connector. With this connection, the telephone will be excluded automatically when the control unit gets through. WARNING! - If the control unit is connected inside a telephone control unit, the Line Cut control loses effectiveness as it will only check whether the connection between the IRS-CB control unit and the telephone control unit is present. - Any modifications to the telephone system must only be made by authorised personnel. - At the end of cabling, after connecting the battery, press the RESET button on the device. In this way, the presence of the battery is checked, even if the periodic test has been disabled. 7.4- Replacing the battery When the device's buffer battery reaches the end of its life, it must be replaced. If this operation is performed while the device is powered by the mains, once the new battery has been connected, it is advisable to reset the device by pressing the designated button. In this way, a test is carried out to check the quality of the battery. Pag. 54 IRS-CB Cap. 7 - Installation 7.5- RS485 BUS cable connection The RS485 bus is used for connecting wires devices. Wait for the end of the test. • Check the quality of the connection for all devices. Connections equal or above 75% can be considered acceptable. Good connections are equal or above 85%, while very good connections are 95% at least. - If the quality of the signal is lower than 75, one or more REP should be installed as shown on page 33. Pag. 64 IRS-CB NOTICE Cap. 7 - Installation Note. The anti-intrusion BiTech uses a two-way radio technology that allows you to monitor the efficiency of devices connected to ensure maximum security of the entire plant. In this light, the system can highlight the critical links between the radio unit and sensors due the environment in which it is installed. These weaknesses are mainly due to unavoidable reflections and multiple paths that the radio signal within the environment suffers. Therefore, the loss and the restoring of radio devices, if it occurs repeatedly, it must be regarded as an index ranking "critical" between the device and the unit. The problem can be solved in different ways: it might be sufficient to place the device in a critical position different from the original, alternatively improve the quality of the radio signal using a REP between the device and the control unit. The radio connection test must always be carried out for each sensor during installation; The value obtained offers an indication of the signal after the test is completed, but does not give 100% guarantee that this level of performance will be maintained over time. This is because no environment can be considered static from a “radio transmission” point of view. A critical installation of a radio device can affect the battery life of the device as being difficult to connect with the radio unit, because it will require multiple transmissions to ensure the proper dialogue. Pag. 65 Cap. 7 - Installation IRS-CB 7.19- Statistics - Periodic checking of the devices Each radio device (apart from the REPs and remote controls) has its own page on which are given the statistics on communications. These data are used to signal any malfunctioning of the RF sensor. The system performs an assessment based on the information provided over the past week of operation. The data are updated every day at 00:00. Presences: this is the number of packets of device presence transmitted to the Control Panel. In optimal conditions, there should be between 1000 and 1350 transmissions per week. State: this is the number of packets for a state change transmitted by the device (opening and closing of the main contact, auxiliary or tamper switch, movement of the inertial or PIR sensor, etc.) Mesh: this is the number of packets sent to the Control Panel using other RF devices that act as REP. This occurs automatically when the sensor does not receive confirmation from the Control Panel. Total: this is the sum of the three previous numbers, all calculated in the last week of operation. TX N.: this is the sum of all the packages the device has transmitted since it was installed. Days: this is the number of days since the device was installed. This data and the sensor loss check are used to determine any RF Sensor Malfunctions. A malfunction can be caused by the following: • ABSENT - the device has not been connected to the control unit for longer than the set time, according to the Lost RF Device Recognition parameter. Reactivation occurs when the first transmission arrives. • CRITICAL - the device has transmitted fewer than 1000 presences in the last week, or a significant percentage of the transmissions received (25%) is carried out via "Mesh" packages. Reactivation occurs upon reaching 1100 weekly presences in the first case, or when the percentage of "Mesh" packages drops below 20% of the weekly total. • EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION: the device has made more than 2400 transmissions in the last week. This can indicate that the device is in a critical position and many repetitions are last required. Alternatively, the device is in a position where it carries out many status transmissions, for instance in the case of a door that is opened many times per day. This control can be disabled for each device. You are advised to check the progress of the statistics on a regular basis. WARNING. The "Mesh" mode is an emergency situation that compromises the durability of the battery for all the devices concerned. If a sensor sends many packages of this type, you should therefore install one or more REPs Pag. 66 IRS-CB Cap. 8 - Configuration - Programming 8 - Configuration - Programming 8.1- Programming from PR-G1 The CLR, ESC, ENT and "=" buttons are special buttons with the terminal ver. 1.0 following functions: - CLR: Deletes all the data which has just been entered; - ESC: Exits the programming page without saving the data; - ENT: Saves the new setting (or confirms the current one) and moves on to the next programming page; - = : Emits an empty string. Wired Inputs List page This page is used to configure all wired inputs (zones). r Function To set up the operating mode for the zone choose between: Pag. 79 Cap. 8 - Configuration - Programming IRS-CB • Burglar: The zone generates an alarm only when the partition, or the partitions it belongs to, are armed. This is the normal operating mode (burglar alarm). • Fire: The zone is active 24 hours and generates a fire alarm. • Panic: The zone is active 24 hours and generates a Panic alarm. • Medical: The zone is active 24 hours and generates a Medical Attention alarm. • Arm./Disarm.: The terminal block is used to arm/disarm the partition in total mode. Example: terminal block1 ⇒ partition1, terminal block4 ⇒ partition4. The activation is a monostable activation on the input side and can also be used in balanced mode. • Alarm 24H: The zone is active 24 hours and generates a “Alarm 24H”. • Unused: the zone isn’t active and don’t generates alarms on the display of keypads. Def.: Burglar r Description Enter a short description of the zone. 18 characters maximum, spaces included. Def.: Zone1..Zone24 r State Indicates the state of the zone in real time. • All: idle when green, alarmed when red. • Sb: sabotage when red (only for balanced zones) Attributes Screen r Enabled Enable/disable the zone; if even just one zone is disabled, the related event is generated. For this reason the zones not used should not be disabled, but should be made “unused”. Def.: Enabled r Mode It defines the operation mode: NC, NA or Balanced. Def.: NC r Alarms It sets the maximum number of alarms that can be generated by the zone. Once the limit has been reached, to rearm the zone, the partition it belongs to must be disarmed and rearmed. Setting this function to “infinite” will disable it. Def.: 5 r Excl If this function is enabled, the zone can be excluded during arming when using the Forced arming procedure. For Delayed zones there is a control that prevents the partition from being excluded (the Delayed attribute prevails). Def.: Enabled r Silent If this function is enabled, the alarmed zone does not activate the Siren. Def.: Disabled r Bell If this function is enabled, the zone activates an acoustic signal on the wired keypads, every time it generates an alarm event, even if the partition is disarmed. Def.: Disabled r Internal If this function is activated the zone becomes internal. Therefore if the related partition is armed in Perimetric mode, the zone is not active. Def.: Enabled r Test If this function is enabled, the zone can become alarmed but does not alarm the partition it belongs to. The alarm is memorized in the system log. During normal operation this function should be disabled. Def.: Disabled Pag. 80 IRS-CB Cap. 8 - Configuration - Programming Partitions Screen r Partitions It assigns the zone to the desired partition/s (the Fire, Panic and Medical Attention zones do not have an partition). Def.: A1 NOTICE Note: There is a control function to ensure that a Burglar type zone is associated to at least one partition. This means that if a change of associated partition is needed, the new partition should be selected before deselecting the old one. Durat. Screen r Delay (mS) It sets the minimum time value before considering the input variation valid. The maximum settable value is 4000 (this corresponds to 4 seconds). The special algorithm used by the sensor, ensures that the alarm generated for each sensitivity level depends both on the shock intensity and the number of impacts closed together (within a few seconds). For example, by selecting a sensitivity level of 2, the alarm is generated when there are: • 5 "strong" impacts • approx. 7 "medium" impacts • 8 "weak" impacts For this reason, it is recommended that the highest sensitivity values should be used to protect non tempered glass and lower sensitive values to protect walls or gates. r Roll.
