Per indicare la qualità in tutti i suoi prodotti, la WHITING FARMS ha introdotto
la classificazione dei gradi delle varie linee attraverso le designazioni della medaglia olimpica, considerando l’utilizzo della piuma in tutti i suoi aspetti quali la
massa, la lunghezza e soprattutto la misura e il tipo di mosca a cui è destinata.
Di seguito riportiamo la classifica delle categorie che distinguono le diverse
serie di prodotti.
- ULTRA PLATINUM: il confine più alto nella genetica delle piume. Una serie da
collezione che offre hackles con caratteristiche eccezionali, specialmente nella
lunghezza, densità e misure delle piume. Disponibile su prenotazione.
- PLATINUM: il top del progresso genetico. Quasi tutta utilizzabile, la lunghezza
di queste hackles permette la costruzione di oltre 2 mosche per piuma. Si lavora con grande piacere. Disponibile su prenotazione.
- GOLD: altissima qualità con particolare enfasi per un utilizzo vantaggioso ed
un minimo di prodotto sprecato e buttato. Una vasta densità di hackles permettono l’utilizzo in diverse misure. È la scelta giusta per i costruttori più esigenti e professionali. Disponibile su prenotazione.
- SILVER: una maggiore ampiezza e densità delle piume per tutta la lunghezza del collo caratterizzano questo grado il silver. Migliore di qualsiasi altra
produzione di hackle che si possa produrre, la lunghezza delle hackles consente di costruire una mosca e mezza per piuma. Sempre disponibile.
- BRONZE: questi colli offrono un eccellente valore e qualità, adatti a tutti i costruttori. Le caratteristiche delle hackles nei colli di grado bronze permettono di costruire almeno una mosca per piuma, grazie alla loro lunghezza. Sempre disponibile.

WHITING DRY FLY HACKLE
Le spalle WHITING DRY FLY HACKLE vengono graduate in base al numero medio di mosche che possono essere costruite per ogni spalla (pelt). Il grado
non considera la misura di hackle con cui si può costruire, come invece spesso si ritiene. I principi che vengono seguiti per determinare la quantità di
mosche che ogni spalla permette di costruire sono elencati di seguito.
- Il numero medio di piume utilizzabili per le dry fly viene contato da entrambi i lati della spalla. (Esempio: un numero di 95 piume nel lato sinistro e
100 in quello destro determina un totale di utilizzo di 195 piume per la costruzione)
- Viene calcolata una media della lunghezza delle piume. Esemplificando: una lunghezza media di 8 inches.
- Viene determinata la misura delle hackle per la costruzione. La maggior parte delle spalle hanno sempre due misure predominanti (esempio: #12 e
#14; #14 e #16) con una presenza di hackle in entrambe le parti che ne caratterizzano la taglia media.
- Il numero totale di mosche per spalla viene calcolato. Esemplificando: una piuma lunga 8 inches con misura di hackle del #14 permetterà di costruire
4 mosche; 195 piume utilizzabili moltiplicate per 4 mosche per piuma dà come risultato un minimo di 780 mosche. È importante sottolineare che la
quantità di utilizzo di hackle diminuisce con la misura dell’amo, quindi anche se è stata designata una certa misura di hackle in realtà è possibile costruire più mosche.
Le spalle vengono classificate nel loro grado appropriato basandosi sulla quantità minima di mosche secche che ogni spalla permetterà di costruire.
