Enigma Helvetia, una mostra organizzata congiuntamente dal
Museo Cantonale d’Arte e dal Museo d’Arte di Lugano, indaga, attraverso due percorsi espositivi complementari, il rapporto complesso
che dalla fine dell’ottocento ai giorni nostri, intercorre tra la produzione
artistica, la storia, la cultura e l’immaginario del singolare laboratorio
che è la Svizzera.
Nel secolo appena trascorso si sono susseguiti tragedie, chiusure,
aperture, conflitti e profondi cambiamenti sociopolitici, al cospetto
dei quali il paese ha profilato la propria identità e la propria posizione
internazionale, condizionando inevitabilmente, per reazione o identificazione, rottura o assimilazione, in forme assai diverse, anche
le espressioni di creatività. L’arte, o meglio, le arti e gli artisti
che per nascita, origine, elezione, eventi della grande storia e vicende
personali si sono trovati confrontati in qualche modo con la Svizzera
e con la Swiss way of life, sono stati protagonisti nel mondo lungo
tutto il XX secolo.
La mostra, che idealmente inizia nelle sale del Museo Cantonale
d’Arte per proseguire al Museo d’Arte, propone un’esplorazione avventurosa, anche curiosa e persino divertente dentro l’enigma elvetico,
affiancando alle straordinarie opere d’arte provenienti dai più importanti musei svizzeri, e non solo, immagini e oggetti sorprendenti
del quotidiano, delle tradizioni e della produzione industriale svizzera.
Un’analisi di tipo antropologico si sviluppa infatti lungo l’itinerario
espositivo, sostenuta da un allestimento scenografico originale,
progettato per “raccontare” alcuni dei grandi temi della complessa
identità culturale svizzera.

Enigma Helvetia ist eine vom Museo d’Arte und vom Museo Cantonale
d’Arte Lugano organisierte Ausstellung. Auf zwei sich ergänzenden
Routen durch die Museen zeigt sie die vielschichtig Beziehung
zwischen Kunstschaffen, Geschichte, Kultur und Vorstellungswelt
der einzigartigen Werkstätte Schweiz vom Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts
bis zur Gegenwart.
Tragödien, Isolation, Erschliessungen, Konflikte und tiefgreifende
sozialpolitische Veränderungen sind im Laufe des letzten Jahrhunderts
aufeinander gefolgt. Die Identität und die internationale Stellung des
Landes lassen sich darauf zurückführen. Die schöpferische
Ausdrucksfähigkeit in vielfältiger Form, entweder durch Reaktion
oder Identifikation, durch Spannung oder Assimilation, wurde dadurch
unvermeidlich geprägt. Die Kunst, oder besser die Künste, und die
Künstler, welche sich aufgrund ihrer Geburt, Herkunft, politischer
Ereignisse, Geschichte und Lebensumstände mit der Schweiz und dem
Swiss way of life beschäftigt haben, sind während des ganzen 20. Jahrhunderts Hauptakteure der internationalen Kunstszene gewesen.
Die Ausstellung beginnt in den Räumen des Museo Cantonale d’Arte,
setzt sich im Museo d’Arte fort und bietet eine abenteuerliche, teils
sonderbare und sogar amüsante Entdeckungsreise des Rätsels
Schweiz (Enigma Helvetia). Neben aussergewöhnlichen Kunstwerken
nicht nur aus den renommiertesten Museen der Schweiz finden sich
auch erstaunliche Bilder und Objekte aus Alltag, Tradition und
Schweizer Industrieproduktion.
Eine originelle und ausgeklügelte Rauminszenierung unterstützt
die anthropologische Analyse der Ausstellungsroute, welche von bedeutungsvollen Themen der komplexen kulturellen Identität der Schweiz
erzählt.

L’exposition Enigma Helvetia, organisée conjointement par le Museo
Cantonale d’Arte et par le Museo d’Arte de Lugano, cherche à révéler,
au travers de deux parcours complémentaires de découverte de
l’exposition, le lien complexe, qui de la fin du XIXe siècle à nos jours,
rapproche la production artistique, l’histoire, la culture et l’imaginaire du
microcosme singulier qu’est la Suisse.
Au cours de ce siècle qui vient de s’achever sont apparus des
tragédies, des fermetures, des ouvertures, des conflits et de profonds
changements sociopolitiques. En modelant son identité et sa position
internationale en fonction de ces événements, le pays a inévitablement
aussi conditionné, par réaction ou identification, par rupture ou
assimilation, la créativité et ses différentes formes d’expression.
L’art, ou mieux encore, les arts et les artistes qui de par leur naissance,
leur origine, leur choix, les événements de l’histoire ou de leur histoire
personnelle, ont eu à faire d’une manière ou d’une autre à la Suisse
et à la Swiss way of life, ont été les protagonistes dans le monde tout
au long du XXe siècle.
L’exposition, qui débute idéalement dans les salles du Museo Cantonale
d’Arte pour se poursuivre au Museo d’Arte, propose une exploration
aventureuse, curieuse et même amusante au cœur de l’énigme helvète,
en mettant côte à côte des œuvres d’art extraordinaires provenant
des plus grands musées suisses, mais pas seulement, et des images
et des objets surprenants du quotidien, des traditions et de la production
industrielle suisse. Une analyse de type anthropologique se dévoile
en effet tout au long du chemin, soutenue par un aménagement scénographique original, conçu pour “raconter” quelques uns des grands
thèmes de la complexe identité culturelle suisse.

Enigma Helvetia, a project organised jointly by the Museo Cantonale
d’Arte and the Museo d’Arte in Lugano, seeks to explore, through two
complementary exhibitions, the complex relationship between artistic
production, history, culture and imagination in the unique ‘workshop’
of Switzerland, from the end of the Nineteenth century to modern times.
In the Twentieth century, a series of tragedies, closures, openings,
conflicts and profound socio-political changes took place which
affected the way in which the country defined its identity and international position and inevitably moulded its creative expressions into
very different styles through reaction/identification and breakage/assimilation. Art–or rather the arts and artists which, by birth, origin,
choice or historical or personal events, have in some way been
associated with Switzerland and the Swiss way of life–played a significant role in the world throughout the century.
A visit to the exhibition ideally begins in the halls of the Museo Cantonale d’Arte and continues into the Museo d’Arte, and offers an adventurous, curious and even amusing voyage of discovery into the Swiss
enigma, placing surprising images and objects from Switzerland’s
everyday life, traditions and industrial production alongside extraordinary works of art from the most important museums in Switzerland
and beyond. An anthropological analysis is developed during the
course of the exhibition, supported by an original scenographic display
designed to ‘tell the story’ of some of the major themes that constitute
Switzerland’s complex cultural identity.
