Project Technical Description
The XDS 3600 drillship is designed to be used for water depths up to 3600 m.
Using the well proven ULSTEIN X-Bow® on the XDS 3600 drillship reduces the vessel motions
and accelerations improving the operational profile. Furthermore it offers the possibility to
“winterize” the design for arctic drilling campaigns.
The drillship is designed to maximize drilling efficiency both of single and dual derrick activities.
In case of adoption of a dual derrick off-line stand building, safe and efficient pipe handling through
a conveyor system, and automated riser handling can be installed with higher operational
employment, thanks to the ULSTEIN X Bow® design.
The drilling package is capable of drilling to depths up to 15,240m (50,000 ft) below rotary table.
The ULSTEIN XDS 3600 drillship has been deeply analysed by Fincantieri Offshore: in particular a
full project feasibility analysis, a project engineering study, a full project estimate, an analysis of the
drilling package configuration have been carried on. This preliminary study allows Fincantieri
Offshore to be able to quote this project to any interested client.
