When you organize an International Meeting,
the workload is so heavy that you swear you will never do it again.
But once you recover from the fatigue, you ask yourself whether you did
a good job, whether the conference you organized was useful for the
training and professional enrichment of the participants.
If you feel your Congress was useful, your enthusiasm is boosted and you
are ready to repeat the experience.
And so we have decided to go for the 4th edition of this two-year
appointment in Rome.
For the past edition we take the credit of having chosen the right people!
And I take this opportunity to thank once again all the members of the
Faculty, not only because they honoured us with their presence (indeed nobody ever turned down our invitation), but above all for their great scientific and human contribution. They gave a perfect interpretation of
the consolidated and successful formula of a Congress that attaches priority to the discussion of the most
controversial issues in coloproctology.
Besides including a discussion on the most widespread malignant and benign colorectal disorders, that
cannot be overlooked, this edition will provide a thorough discussion in particular of pelvic functional
pathologies, with primary or secondary involvement of the rectum. Even though this is a pelvic organ, it
does not receive appropriate attention by all those who deal with pelviperineology. This state of affairs is
not attributable to the urogynecologists but is due to an unexplainable lack of interest by coloproctologists.
After having used such symbols as the Colosseum, the Mouth of Truth, the Lupa Capitolina for the previous
conferences, this time we have chosen the Roman Emperor-Philosopher, Marcus Aurelius (Rome 121 –
Vienna 180 AD).
A controversial historic figure whose actions were always imbued with the pragmatism of war strategies
coupled with an ethical and moral conduct fuelled by a constant “dialogue with himself”.
I think that reflecting on our therapeutic choices in the light of the spirit and philosophy embodied by
Marcus Aurelius could constitute the “Mission” of our Congress.
One of the missions of the organizers is to make sure that your stay in Rome will be a memorable experience
of warmth and friendship.
