con il 1° Maggio 2004 abbiamo brindato all’ampliamento
dell’Europa, ma abbiamo anche gioito in quanto tutti coloro
che sono venuti a Firenze per partecipare alle settimane di
integrazione internazionale senza competizione, nel rispetto
delle singole identità, hanno da anni, con la Fondazione,
contribuito a preparare questo momento storico.
La nostra Fondazione, unendosi a tutti voi in questa gioia, vi
esprime un sincero, profondo ringraziamento per aver collaborato con così tanta dedizione e passione a questa attività,
partecipando a questi programmi e rendendo possibili questi
progetti.
Grazie a voi in questi anni la Fondazione ha potuto realizzare quasi 31.000 giorni d’integrazione, quasi 6.000 settimane
d’integrazione internazionale senza competizione, nel rispetto delle singole identità, per altrettanti giovani provenienti da
questi Paesi.
Ne siamo orgogliosi e v’invitiamo a gioire con noi e ad essere con noi orgogliosi per questo nostro piccolo ma concreto
contributo ad una migliore comprensione interpersonale fra
popoli di culture diverse.

Dearest Friends,
On May 1 st 2004, we drank a toast not only to the expansion of
the European Union but also rejoice all those who had come to
Florence to participate in the international integration seminars
without competition, in the respect of the single identities, and
thus had been contributing for years with the Foundation to prepare fot this historic moment.
Our Foundation, united with all of you in this joy, would like to
express its sincere and profound thanks to your devoted and
passionate collaboration and for your participation in our programs thus making the projects possible.
It is thanks to you that during these years the Foundatio during
these years could realise almost 31.000 days of integration,
6000 weeks of international integration without competition in
the respect of the single identity for so many young people coming from these Countries.
We are proud of this and we invite you to rejoice with us and
to feel proud together with us of this small but concrete contribution to a better interpersonal understanding amongst people of different cultures.

Lo scorso Dicembre è stato presentato al pubblico dopo 6 mesi di
restauro il quadro “Allegoria Sacra” di Giovanni Bellini (Venezia 1433
circa – 1516), custodito presso la Galleria degli Uffizi. Il restauro, promosso dalla Fondazione Romualdo Del Bianco, è stato reso possibile
grazie al contributo della Vivahotels, attraverso il suo programma di
tutela del patrimonio artistico denominato “Be part of History”

Last December, after 6 months of restoration, the Uffizi Gallery’s painting by Giovanni Bellini (Venice around 1433-1516), entitled “Allegoria
Sacra”, has been presented to the public. The painting’s restoration,
promoted by the Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation, was made possible thanks to the contribution of the Vivahotels, through its program

“PROJECTS OF PROFESSIONAL ARCHITECTS FROM THE COMMUNITY OF
INDEPENDENT STATES”
(25th-28th November 2003, Faculty of Architecture of Florence)
The event was promoted by Prof. Galina Plyanskaya (Dean of the
Faculty of Architecture of Minsk) and by the Foundation with the
cooperation of the Faculty of Architecture of Florence and the Council
for International Relations of the City of Florence. It illustrated the
projects of 25 professional architects of the Unions of Architects of
Byelorussia, Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine. The exhibition was
organised on the premises of the Faculty of Architecture of Florence.
The aim was to present, first of all to the students, the latest trends
of architectural projects in the countries of the Community of

SUPPORT OF THE MEETING “R ENAISSANCEAND ANTIRENAISSANCE: C IVILISATION
AND ARTSOF FLORENCEINTHE R USSIANCULTUREOFTHE XIX AND XX CENTURY
(11TH-13TH DECEMBER 2003, GABINETTO VIEUSSEUX, FLORENCE)
This initiative, with the participation of Russian and Italian scholars, has
been promoted by the Gabinetto Vieusseux with the cooperation of the
National Institute of Renaissance Studies and the Foundation. The meeting was focused on the deepening of the idea of Florentine Renaissance in
the Russian culture between the XIX and XX century, when a passionate
sharing of these values coexisted with the condemnation of these from the
part of orthodox believers. The interest of the Gabinetto Vieusseux for
Russia goes back to a travel of the founder at the beginning of the XIX century, when he visited Saint Petersburg, a city to which he dedicated many
interesting studies. The relations with the Russian culture continue until
today and include also contacts with prestigious persons (such as
Dostoevksij).
For the occasion of the meeting, an exhibition entitled “Fëdor Dostoevskij
and his travels, memories of the European itineraries” was held with
the co-operation of the Dostoevskij Museum of Saint Petersburg. The exhibition was repeated last April in the Russian city.
THE CONCERTS
IL CONCERTO DEL CORODELLA CAPPELLA SINFONICADI STATO RUSSA
Lo scorso 29 Novembre, in collaborazione con l’Associazione Nuovi
Eventi Musicali, la Fondazione ha sostenuto la realizzazione di uno
straordinario concerto del Coro della Cappella Sinfonica di Stato Russa
(50 vocalisti e 10 musicisti) diretto dal Maestro Valery Polyansky. Per
la prima volta in Italia è stato eseguito il Concerto per Coro ed il
Requiem di Alfred Schnittke (di cui il Maestro Polyansky era amico e
dedicatario delle due opere), all’interno della suggestiva Badia
Fiesolana; sono poi state eseguite opere di Rachmaninov e Sidelnikov.

THE MEETINGS
SOSTEGNO AL CONVEGNO “RINASCIMENTO E ANTIRINASCIMENTO: C IVILTÀ
ED ARTE DI FIRENZE NELLA CULTURA RUSSA DEL XIX E XX SECOLO
(11-13 DICEMBRE 2003, GABINETTO VIEUSSEUX, FIRENZE)
L’iniziativa, con la partecipazione di studiosi russi ed italiani, è stata
promossa dal Gabinetto Vieusseux con la cooperazione dell’Istituto
Nazionale di Studi sul Rinascimento e della Fondazione. L’incontro si
è incentrato sull’approfondimento dell’idea del Rinascimento
Fiorentino maturata nella cultura russa tra il XIX ed il XX secolo,
quando un’appassionata condivisione di questi valori coesisteva con
la condanna degli stessi da parte della fede ortodossa. L’interesse
del Gabinetto Vieusseux per la Russia risale fin al viaggio fatto dal
suo fondatore all’inizio del XIX secolo, quando visitò San
Pietroburgo, una città alla quale dedicò interessanti studi. Le relazioni con la cultura Russa continuano fino ad oggi e contano anche contatti con personalità prestigiose (prime tra tutti Dostoevskij).
In occasione del convegno si è svolta anche la mostra dal titolo
“Fëdor Dostoevskij e i suoi viaggi, memorie dagli itinerari euro pei” con la collaborazione del Dostoevskij Museum di San
Pietroburgo. La mostra si è ripetuta lo scorso aprile nella città russa.

PHOTO EXHIBITION “ITALIAN ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGEIN GALICIAAND UKRAINE”
(27th-31st January 2004, Salone degli Incontri, Vivahotel Alexander, Florence)
The exhibition was promoted by Halina Dergachova (State Art Gallery of Lviv)
in co-operation with the Foundation and illustrated the monuments and buildings of Galicia (region today divided between Poland and Ukraine) designed
by Italian architects representing the common cultural heritage of the two
nations. The aim of the exhibition was in fact to testify the old historical and
cultural union of Ancient Europe, particularly obvious during the transition from
Middle Ages to Modern Era. In this period, Latin culture, in form of Italian
Humanism, was largely disseminated in the major part of Europe and together with this the demand for the “stile all’italiana” was greater and greater. In
the above mentioned geographical region, this process has been stimulated
after the devastating fire that destroyed entirely Lviv in 1527; in fact, an enormous demand for architects and constructors attracted many Italian representatives, mainly from the North-West, amongst which Pietro Cannega
(Cannegia) called Barbone, Bernardo Morando from Padova, Paolo Dominici
called Paolo Romano, Paolo Italus from Ticino, Andrea dell’Aqua and others.

THECONCERTOFTHE CHORUSOFTHE SYMPHONIC CHOIROFTHE RUSSIAN STATE
Last 29th November, in co-operation with the Associazione Nuovi Eventi
Musicali, the Foundation supported the realisation of an extraordinary
concert of the Chorus of Symphonic Choir of the Russian State (50
vocalists and 10 musicians) conducted by Maestro Valery Polyansky. In
fact, the Concert for Choir and the Requiem of Alfred Schnittke (with
whom Maestro Polyansky was friend and dedicatory of the two pieces)
were performed for the first time in Italy, in the charming Badia
Fiesolana. After that, pieces of Rachmaninov and Sidelnikov were also
performed. We would like to thank the cooperation of Vivahotel Capitol

Nell’ambito del programma d’incontri settimanali tra giovani 20032004 si è svolto presso il Palazzo Rinuccini, un concerto di musica classica coordinato dal Prof. Pawel Radzinski (Accademia di
Musica di Bydgoszcz). Dal 15 al 22 Febbraio, giovani studenti
delle Accademie di Musica di Bruxelles, Bydgoszcz, Cracovia,
Goteborg, Jakobstad, Lapperanta, Poznan, Stoccolma si sono
incontrati in Firenze e preparato un concerto di musiche di
Beethoven, Ciajkovskij, Gluck, Rachmaninov e Piazzolla. La

Within the 2003-2004 program of international integration for
young people, a concert of classical music was performed at the
historical Palazzo Rinuccini of Florence, conducted by Prof. Pawel

subjects: restoration and rehabilitation of the building (originating
form the VI century B.C.), development of tourist infrastructures in

Dal 1 al 7 Dicembre 2003 è stata realizzata la prima edizione fiorentina della Mostra-Concorso Internazionale dei migliori progetti di laurea degli studenti delle facoltà ed istituti d’architettura dei Paesi della
Comunità degli Stati Indipendenti (C.I.S.): 125 docenti con loro assistenti, 32 università di 26 città di 7 paesi, 91 progetti distribuiti in 8
differenti categorie tematiche. Al termine del concorso, che si è svolto nel suggestivo Palagio di Parte Guelfa (antica sede del governo

Between the 1 st and 7 th December 2003, it has been realised the
first Florentine edition of the International Show Competition of
the Best Diploma Projects of students from faculties and institutes
of Architecture from the countries of the Community of

As usual, following the direction outlined during the last Round
Table of the Experts (February 2004), a first draft of the new
program of initiatives was prepared for the period of
November 2004-February 2005. Once the proposers’(Project
Leaders) confirmations received, we will publish in June the
final version of the 2004-2005 program on the website of the
Foundation www.fondazione-delbianco.org, in order to each
interested university be able to send on-line its request of participation for an envisaged initiative.
In compliance with the institutional aim of the Foundation, the
main scope of the program is to stimulate the meeting and the
dialogue amongst people (especially young) from different countries and cultures, in the respect of the single identity, in order to
contribute to their valorisation and to the sensibilisation towards
the values of co-operation and friendship amongst people.

The conference, promoted and organised by the College of
Engineers of Tuscany with the co-operation of the
Foundation, is aimed to emphasise the importance of bearing
wooden structures, important element of monuments (consequently of the artistic and cultural heritage) and also special
holders of value in connection with creativity, inventiveness,
techniques and aesthetics. There will be presented therefore
some of the most significant examples of these structures,
the technologies of construction, the problems concerning
degradation, estimation of their safety, techniques of reparation and propping and also other aspects (amongst which the
use of technology and the innovative materials such as composites fibre). All this with the participation of specialists from
different countries to understand and share their thoughts
and experiences, setting up a discussion at international

comunque fatto pervenire i loro messaggi di
solidarietà) al Presidente della Fondazione,
Paolo Del Bianco, il quale, seppur presente
nei momenti importanti, è stato impossibilitato
a presiedere la riunione perché convalescente
da una recente operazione chirurgica. Sua
figlia Carlotta, sostituendolo nelle funzioni, ha
in ogni modo dimostrato quello stesso entusiasmo e quella stessa determinazione che
hanno consentito fino ad oggi alla Fondazione

The Dr. Romana Krizova‚s speech on EU Fund Raising programs for the culture

Foundation launched the program of meetings and lections
on theme of community programmes to support of the cultural and socializing initiatives
realised in Member Countries;

with cooperation of Dr.

create an international network of university contacts

Io non sono né un ricercatore, né uno specialista in Architettura dei giardini, ma nella mia lunga esperienza di progettazione, il rapporto tra l’edificio ed il suo contesto paesaggistico nonché la sistemazione esterna
stessa hanno sempre avuto un’importanza fondamentale. È per questo
motivo che, da molto tempo, dedico particolare attenzione allo studio dei
giardini che sono fonte per me di grande interesse e divertimento.
Storicamente il primo esempio di giardino apparve in Giappone circa 1400
anni fa e venne realizzato per volere di un signore dell’epoca di nome
Soga-no-Umako, il quale fece ricavare da una vasta distesa davanti alla
sua abitazione un piccolo lago artificiale e, con la terra ottenuta, creò un
piccolo isolotto e decorò il tutto con piante e pietre. Quest’opera risentiva
sia nello stile sia nella concezione di un’influenza cinese che simboleggiava,mediante il lago, il mare e, con l’isolotto, l’isola leggendaria dove
dimoravano i saggi eremiti rappresentati dalle piante…. (segue)

“THE WATER IN THE ANCIENT JAPANESE GARDEN” – YASUO WATANABE,

I am neither a researcher nor a scholar in garden architecture, but
during my professional activity I have always reserved a special
attention to the relationship between the building and the landscape. That’s why, for a long time, I am used to give a special attention to the gardens, which are a source of great interest and amusement for me. From an historical point of view, the first Japanese
garden dated about 1400 years ago, thanks to the will of an ancient
landlord named Soga-no-Umako; he ordered the construction of a
little lake and an inner little island, decorated with stones and
plants. This work was influenced, both in the style than in the conception, by Chinese mentality influence, where the little island represented the legendary island where wise men (embodied by the

There are both new expectations and potential risk factors connected with a dynamic progress in biotechnology over the last decades.
Focused on environmental problems one has a dilemma: is it proper
way of environmental biotechnology to introduce to the natural environment transgenic organisms? Organisms such as genetically-modified plants resistant to pesticides, having better practical value in
agriculture, food industry, etc. as well as GM micro-organisms of useful properties for the protection of the natural environment e.g. by
higher rate of bio-remediation or enriching soil with deficient essential elements, etc.? More and more European experts become very

Il segreto dell’arte moderna è basato su uno stretto contatto con il continuo
passato, su una dinamica assimilazione di nuove possibilità e sull’integrazione delle culture orientali ed occidentali. Gli artisti e gli architetti spesso
cercano di confermare la propria arte ricercando i contatti con le manifestazioni artistiche ed architettoniche delle precedenti civiltà. Questa tendenza non giustifica tanto il tentativo di imitare le forme quanto la ricerca
di nuovi legami spirituali.
L’architettura può esercitare un’influenza che va ben oltre i limiti dell’epoca
entro la quale nasce e quelli delle classi sociali nelle quali si sono affermate.
Le circostanze che videro l’affermazione di questa o di quell’architettura possono essere ben diverse l’una dalle altre, ma dal momento della loro comparsa diventano un organismo indipendente, con i loro tratti caratteristici e la loro
continua ed autonoma evoluzione. “Il Rinascimento” – scriveva L.M. Batkin –
“è la cultura dell’incontro interculturale”. Più penetriamo alla ricerca dall’originalità del Rinascimento, più chiaro vediamo la sua transitorietà…. (segue)

The secret of the modern art is based on close contact with everlasting past, on dynamic assimilation of new possibilities and on integration of the oriental and western cultures. Artists and architects
often try to confirm their art by search of contacts with former civilizations’art. This tendency lies not so much in the attempt to imitate
the forms as in the search for spiritual links. Architecture can exert
influence far beyond the limits of the epoch, within which it was born,
and those social classes, which called it into being. The circumstances which called forth appearance of this architecture or another
can be quite different, but from the moment of the appearance it
becomes an independent organism with its own traits of character
and its own continuous life. “Renaissance”,-wrote L.M. Batkin,-“is a
culture of cultures’intercourse”. The more we penetrate into originality of the Renaissance, the clearer we see that it was expressed in

I contatti sono importanti in ogni campo della società. Come disse
Aristotele l’uomo è un “zoon politicon” che significa un essere
vivente che è a disagio trovandosi solo. I bisogni di comunicare, di
esprimersi, di confermare la propria esistenza; per questa comunicazione, è necessario un primo contatto. Ma noi vogliamo parlare di un livello d’autoespressività più elevato: l’arte. Per gli artisti il
contatto con altri artisti è sempre stato essenziale; se osserviamo
un oggetto d’arte della storia d’Europa non è possibile non trovare almeno tre testimonianze di tre differenti culture. Queste connessioni sono la prova dell’esistenza di reali contatti tra popoli,
nazioni, culture. L’impatto dell’arte di Firenze sull’arte e sulla vita
durante il Rinascimento sono fuori discussione. Noi Ungheresi,
studenti di storia dell’arte proviamo a mostrare tali influenze.
Queste connessioni non sono importanti solo perché confermano
i contatti avvenuti, ma anche per la loro storia ci parlano degli
ambienti in cui nacquero e si svilupparono.
Durante la Guerra Fredda, sfortunati eventi ed atteggiamenti di
allora innalzarono delle barriere tra l’Est Europeo ed il mondo occidentale. Le nostre culture furono quasi ermeticamente chiuse
come in un guscio e le opere d’arte nate durante questo periodo
erano visibilmente più povere dal punto di vista artistico, poiché i
“canali” di connessione si rivelavano chiusi verso l’Ovest. È solo
da circa un decennio che questi “canali” sono stati nuovamente
aperti e adesso l’Est e l’Ovest stanno ritrovando le antiche perdute relazioni e tradizioni che si dimostrarono così preziose per la
cultura in passato….(segue).

Contacts are important in every field of human society. As Aristotle
said man is a “zoon politicon” which means is a social being and doesn’t feel well alone. Needs to communicate to express him\herself, to
confirm his\her existence. For this communication first a contact is
needed. But we want to talk about a higher level of this self expression
- art. For artists the contacts with other artists was also essential
through the centuries, while European art was being shaped. If we
examine an object or a piece of art from European history it is impossible not to find at least three imprint on it which came from three different culture. These imprints are the proof for the existence of real
contacts between people, nations and their cultures. The impact of
Florence’s art on the art-life of the Renaissance Europe is without
question. We Hungarian art history students can even show proofs of
such imprints.
These proofs are not important just because they confirm the contacts,
but also for there story they tell about the environment in which they
were created. Life and life in major as politics always materialize in
such objects.
During the Cold War the unfortunate events and aroused attitude
separated the East of Europe from the Western world. Our culture
was almost hermetically closed in a shell, and the art objects born in
during this era were poorer from the point of view, that the “channels” of impacts were half closed to the west. Its only for about a
decade that these “channels”, had been wide opened, and the East
and the West found the long lost relations and traditions that are so
precious in there culture and past…. (to be continued)
SALUTI DAGLI STAGISTI DELLA FONDAZIONE PAVEL NEMEC (SOBESLAV,
REPUBBLICA CECA) E LUBOS HAZUCHA (BRATISLAVA, SLOVACCHIA)
Salve, siamo due studenti dalla Repubblica Ceca e dalla
Slovacchia che hanno passato sei splendidi mesi a Firenze come
borsisti in stage della Fondazione.
Abbiamo preso parte alle iniziative della Fondazione il cui principale scopo è l’organizzazione di seminari per giovani studenti,
Lubos come Graphic e Web designer, Pavel come coordinatore dei
seminari degli studenti. Lubos si occupava di creare poster pubbli citari culturali, dell’aggiornamento del sito web della Fondazione ed
altre presentazioni promozionali. Pavel si occupava dell’organizzazione dei seminari, sia in fase preparativa che in quella direttamente esecutiva. Inoltre insieme abbiamo collaborato per alcuni
importanti eventi quali la “II Masterclass Internazionale di Musica
Barocca in Firenze”, diretta da Paul Esswood, la rassegna di eventi etno-culturali “I giorni della Repubblica Ceca in Toscana”, la
“Prima edizione fiorentina di una mostra-concorso internazionale di
progetti di laurea in architettura ed ingegneria civile delle universi tà della Comunità degli Stati Indipendenti”.
Infine vogliamo salutare tutti i simpatici collaboratori della
Fondazione, specialmente il nostro grande amico Simone
Giometti.

Hi guys, we are two students from the Czech and Slovak Republic and we
spent here 6 wonderful months as trainees of the Foundation. We were participating in the Foundation activities whose principal main is to organizestudents' workshops: Lubos contributed as Graphic and Web designer, instead
Pavel’s position was Coordinator of Students’workshops. Lubos responsibility was to create some posters, update Web-site of the Foundation, preparation of presentations and other advertising activity; Pavel used to coordinate
the preparative phase before and during the workshops. We would like to
thank for this possibility to the Foundation Romualdo Del Bianco. It was one
of our first professional experiences that we have had that we would recommend to everybody to take part as a trainee in the Foundation. The biggest
projects to those we contributed were the “II International Vocal Master class
of Baroque Music in Florence”, directed by Paul Esswood, “Czech Days in
Tuscany”, “First Florence Edition 2003, International Show Competition of
Graduate Projects of Architectural Institutes and Faculties of Commonwealth
Independent States”.
Finally, we would like to greet all the likeable employees of this organization, especially we would like to point out our great friend Simone
Giometti.

The identity of the Foundation
Nella presente, e nelle successive edizioni, questa sezione intende dare al lettore una visione generale della Fondazione. Riporteremo pertanto il testo del
“Manifesto” della Fondazione (che enuncia i principi ispiratori) come pure i
Riconoscimenti finora ricevuti in relazione all’attività di integrazione tra giovani di Paesi e Culture diverse.
In this edition and also in the future ones, this section intends to give to the
readers a general vision of the Foundation. We give a report of the
“Manifesto” of the Foundation (that explains the inspiring principles) as well
as the Acknowledgements received relating to the activity of integration
among the youth of different Countries and Cultures.

Tavola Rotonda Internazionale degli Esperti della Fondazione, tenutasi a Firenze il
23 Febbraio 2001, alla presenza di 47 Esperti provenienti da 15 Paesi) Il testo del

- 1 – INTRODUZIONE:
la Missione della Fondazione Romualdo Del Bianco è contribuire a creare integrazione internazionale; la nostra Fondazione organizza, in Firenze, incontri ed
iniziative internazionali attraverso i quali giovani di culture e paesi diversi possano incontrarsi e conoscersi per favorire una reciproca conoscenza e amicizia,
quindi per contribuire allo sviluppo della pace nel mondo.
2 – PREMESSE
- 2.1 – LA VITA COMEIMPEGNOSOCIALE
La vita è un continuo impegno di relazioni umane. Nella nostra Fondazione tale
impegno è visto come contributo allo sviluppo di una rete internazionale di comprensione e di vera amicizia, in particolar modo in questo momento storico,
caratterizzato da ondate migratorie a seguito dell’apertura di frontiere di Paesi
precedentemente isolati.
- 2.2 – LIBERTÀ E VALORI
Pensiamo a coloro i quali, dopo un lungo periodo vissuto sotto un regime “non
democratico”, stanno adesso assaporando la libertà, che è libertà di pensiero, di
voto, di religione; in breve libertà di agire liberamente.
Tutto questo consentirà loro di alzare il livello di benessere, portandoli ad acquisire anche una maggiore consapevolezza delle proprie possibilità e ad essere più
sicuri di se stessi.
Tutto ciò è estremamente positivo, ma cosa può andar perso avendo tutto ciò?
- 2.3 – EGOISMO E CONSUMISMO
E’ possibile perdere la capacità di valutare la spontaneità ed il piacere dell’entusiasmo anche nelle piccole cose offerte con sincero affetto.
Questa perdita non è positiva, portando a favorire il costume dell’usa e getta, al
di là della sua logica necessità.
Tale cultura porta al trionfo dell’egoismo, con i suoi effetti dirompenti anche nelle
relazioni sociali, quindi anche all’interno della famiglia che, per molti aspetti è un
momento fondamentale della nostra società.
- 2.4 – TECNOLOGIA E COMUNICAZIONE: INDIVIDUALISMO E SOLITUDINE
Anche la crescita della tecnologia – che dà alla nostra società una crescita della
comunicazione – porta un forte rischio di aumento dell’individualismo, quindi della
solitudine.
- 2.5 – VALORIUMANI
Esiste il rischio di perdere valori umani sostanziali. Ci sentiamo come travolti in
un delirio. Qual è la direzione? Dov’è il progresso culturale e sociale? Si diffonde
invece un inutile, metodico, diffuso e miope depauperamento di risorse naturali,
senza alcuna valutazione di quale possa essere lo sviluppo sostenibile.
Nei Paesi ove esisteva un sistema totalitario l’individuo spesso si è chiuso in se
stesso, a difesa della propria personalità, dei propri valori. Ci domandiamo, l’assenza di democrazia può, paradossalmente, aver consentito in questi Paesi il
congelamento di alcuni degli antichi valori?
Se così fosse, ci domanderemmo ancora, i Paesi che hanno sofferto l’assenza della
democrazia per un lungo periodo, adesso – che stanno scongelando i loro antichi valori - potrebbero aiutare gli altri Paesi a far sì che questi valori fioriscano ancora tra loro?

- 1 – INTRODUCTION
The Mission of the Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation is to contribute to International
Integration. The Foundation organises international meetings and activities in
Florence for young people, through which persons from different Countries and
Cultures may meet, get acquainted and understand each other in order to favour
mutual knowledge and friendship and, hence, contribute to promoting world peace.
2 – PRELIMINARY STATEMENTS
2.1 – LI F EA S A SOCIALCOMMITMENT
Life is a constant commitment towards human relationships. The Foundation considers such a commitment as a contribution to the development of an international
network of understanding and true friendship, especially within the present particular historical period, which is often characterised by migratory waves and by the
opening borders of previously isolated countries.
2.2 – FREEDOMAND VALUES
We are reminded of those who, after living under a non-democratic regime for a long
period of time, are now enjoying freedom, that is freedom of thought, vote and religion, i.e. freedom to act out liberally.
All of this allows those to increase their wealth, to become more aware of their
potential and to be more self-confident..
All of this is extremely positive, yet what could or would be lost by gaining it?
2.3 – SELFISHNESSAND CONSUMERISM
It is possible to lose the capability of valuing the spontaneity and enthusiastic pleasure about from small things, thoughts as well as small presents given out of true
love. This loss is not positive because it favours disposable consumerism beyond
its logic needs. This kind of culture leads to the triumph of selfishness with disruptive effects on social relationships, hence within families, which are, in many ways,
the foundations of our society.
2.4 - TECHNOLOGY & COMMUNICATION: INDIVIDUALISM & LONELINESS
The development of Technology and Information allows communications to grow in
our Society, yet at the same time it involves the risk of an increasing individualism,
hence loneliness.
2.5 – HUMAN VALUES
Human values risk being lost. We feel as if being carried away by a delirious crowd.
Which direction should we follow? Where is the cultural and social progress? Auseless, methodical, myopic impoverishment of natural resources is spreading outward, without taking into account sustainable development.
Individuals living in countries governed by totalitarian regimes often close themselves up, trying to defend their personality and values.
We wonder whether the lack of democracy in those countries may have preserved
some of the ancient values.
If such is the case, we also wonder whether those countries which have suffered from
such a lack of democracy for a long time and which are currently rediscovering their
ancient values, could help other countries to re-establish their own them again.

Il patrimonio culturale potrebbe essere un potente motore per occasioni d’incontri, quindi per scambi, per la conoscenza interpersonale, la comprensione e l’amicizia; quindi il turismo potrebbe essere un forte elemento strategico per la diffusione della pace. Il turismo tradizionale, però, è generalmente turismo per bisogni individuali, è quindi una sorta di turismo egoistico.
In genere i turisti non si integrano con la popolazione del Paese che stanno visitando.

Cultural heritage could be a powerful engine for initiating meetings, exchanges, interpersonal knowledge, understanding and friendship. Thus, tourism could be considered as a peace-spreading strategy. Traditional tourism generally is pursued out of
Individual needs, thus becoming selfish Tourism.
Usually tourists do not integrate much with the people of the Country they are visiting.
Traditional Tourism, or “fast Tourism” of the second half of the 20t h century, risks contributing to the growing increase of individualism which is often a direct consequence of it.

La città storica che attrae il turismo cambia il suo aspetto tanto quanto è necessario per offrire i servizi adeguati ad un turismo internazionale, ma solo per
ragioni di business e il frettoloso turista generalmente non è interessato a stabilire relazioni di amicizia con la gente della città nella quale si trova. Tutti gli
scambi che si possono verificare (parole, sguardi, ecc.) sono solo scambi tecnici per la convenienza del business (per vendere e comprare) e il risultato è
un’emulsione di olio nell’acqua, l’integrazione non sarà possibile.
Inoltre la città che riceve i turisti sta lavorando per dare servizi al turista; si trova
quindi nella sua più impegnativa fase di lavoro, è orientata verso gli affari e
spesso ha anche una mentalità limitata al solo commercio. Non solo. La città
spesso, per la spontaneità del fenomeno, trascura l’importanza della pianificazione per gestire la crescita dei flussi turistici, rischiando di subire gli effetti
negativi di questa ricchezza incontrollata. La pianificazione, invece, dovrebbe
focalizzare i limiti e le condizioni di uno sviluppo sostenibile in quanto la città
non può costantemente incrementare i propri flussi turistici senza far subire ai
propri cittadini questa situazione. In altre parole, senza la ricerca di uno sviluppo sostenibile rischiamo di indurre i cittadini a ritenere i turisti un elemento
negativo per loro e per la loro città, invece che una ricchezza.
Nell’interesse dei cittadini, dei visitatori e nell’interesse del futuro delle nostre
città storiche, dobbiamo definire la missione di ciascun sistema urbano per delinearne i limiti di sviluppo possibile, affinché, poco a poco, non diventino un
grande museo per turisti, quindi non più città dei propri cittadini, quindi non più
città.
Nel documento della Conferenza di Cracovia del 26 Ottobre 2000, sotto la voce
Management, si sottolinea con estrema chiarezza il rischio di un turismo non
gestito, quindi subìto.

- 4.1 – RICERCAPER I LABORATO R ID I INTEGRAZIONE INTERNAZIONALE
Pensiamo che siano possibili incontri per favorire la crescita di una diretta
socializzazione fra persone provenienti da culture e paesi diversi, per aiutare
la crescita della “Cultura della Integrazione Internazionale” nel rispetto delle
diversità.
Per questa ragione crediamo in un tipo di organizzazione che assicuri incontri
fra persone e conoscenza reciproca per comprendere i valori degli uni e degli
altri, esaltando le differenze come momenti culturali da conoscere e comprendere; un tipo di organizzazione che assicuri incontri per una vera soluzione
chimica fra persone, una ricchezza per contribuire a realizzare un mondo
migliore.
Ne consegue che possiamo definire, semplificando molto, due principali tipi di
incontri:
Turismo:
turismo per necessità (per es. d’affari, termale ecc.)
turismo egoistico (turismo per il piacere dell’individuo: culturale, sportivo ecc.)
Attività dei Centri Ricerca per l’Integrazione Internazionale.
Brevemente, per contrastare il crescente individualismo e la costante crescita
di superficialità, auspichiamo una diversa forma di incontri per riscoprire noi
stessi, grazie alle attività dei Centri di Ricerca per l’Integrazione Internazionale.
Siamo convinti che la nostra società, così come ha bisogno di risorse economiche e finanziarie provenienti dal turismo, necessita anche dell’attività di questi Centri di Ricerca per assicurarsi una migliore crescita all’inizio del terzo millennio, ove il denaro, il potere, il prestigio ed il piacere per il piacere, stanno
avendo il sopravvento mentre devono essere contenuti al livello di strategia e
mai fatti assurgere ad obiettivo; un terzo millennio ove l’essere deve assolutamente prevalere su l’avere.
Il risultato della ricerca dei Laboratori per l’Integrazione Internazionale deve
entrare nella vita quotidiana in modo naturale, osmotico. L’attività dei Centri di
Ricerca per l’Integrazione Internazionale è finalizzata ad esaltare gli incontri, la
conoscenza reciproca, la comprensione e, quindi, l’amicizia fra le persone, per
un contributo alla pace nel mondo; in primo luogo fra i giovani di culture e Paesi
diversi.
Strumento di questa attività è la libera iniziativa per esaltare le sfide, con la fantasia e l’abilità individuale, il dinamismo, l’entusiasmo e l’impegno delle persone coinvolte.
5 – IN CONCLUSIONE:

Oltre la Pace per confermare l’importanza della vita come impegno, per contribuire al restauro del nostro modo di fare, troppo spesso influenzato dalla nostra
vita quotidiana, rivolta sempre più all’usa e getta senza limiti; uno stile di vita
fondamentalmente contrario al concetto di conservazione e restauro oggi particolarmente caro. Vita come impegno per non incidere negativamente sul nostro
modo di guardare al passato, di guardare alla nostra eredità storica, ai nostri
valori sociali. I Paesi liberi devono decidere d’investire molto nel processo di
socializzazione internazionale, considerandolo un fattore strategico di equilibrata crescita della propria società per assicurare il controllo dell’individualismo e
dell’egoismo, con il contributo de la ricerca, la preservazione, il restauro e la
riabilitazione degli antichi valori di socializzazione, per apprezzare meglio l’amicizia tra i popoli contro un mondo di solitudine.

Historical cities which attract tourism change as much as possible in order to offer
the appropriate services necessary for international tourists and only for business
reasons. Hasty tourists usually are not interested in befriending the inhabitants of
the city they are visiting. Exchanges such as words, looks, etc. occur only for business reasons (buying and selling), thus making integration impossible, like trying to
mix oil and water.
In addition, cities receiving visitors work in order to offer services to tourists. Thus,
they are in their most compelling work phase, which is business oriented and often
times only business minded.
Actually there is more to it. Due to the spontaneity of such a phenomenon, cities
neglect the planning of increasing tourist flows, risking to suffer and undergo the
bad effects of such uncontrolled richness.
On the contrary, planning should be focused on the limits and conditions of a sustainable development because cities are not able to steadily increase their tourist
flow without making their citizens suffer. In other words, if sustainable development
is not strived for, citizens risk deeming tourists as a negative element for them and
their city, rather than as a richness.
In pursuing citizens’and visitors’interests as well as those future ones of historical
cities, the mission of each urban system must be defined in order to show the limits of possible development. By doing so, cities shall no longer slowly become large
Museums for Visitors, cities which cease to exist because they do not belong to
their citizens anymore!
The paragraph about Management within the document resulting from the international conference held in Krakow on October 26 th 2000 (“Krakow 2000”), clearly
states that unmanaged tourism means suffering.

FOR THE PRESERVAT I O NA N D
RECOVERY OFANCIENT VALUESOFSOCIALISATION
4.1 – RESEARCHFOR INTERNATIONAL INTEGRATION LABORATORIES
The Foundation believes that people coming from different countries and cultures
meeting together fostering direct socialisation among them and contribute to the
development of a “Culture of International Integration”, while at the same time
respecting diversities.
For this reason, the Foundation believes in a type of organisation which shall
ensure gatherings among people and mutual knowledge in order to understand
each other’s values, thereby exalting the differences as cultural points to be known
and understood. It is a type of organisation which shall ensure concrete meetings
to occur to occur among people, a richness that can really contribute in making a
better world.
Consequently, we can define two main kinds of meetings.
a)
Tourism:
Tourism as a need (i.e. business tourism, spa tourism)
Selfish tourism (i.e. leisure, sport, cultural, gastronomic, etc.)
b)
Activities of the research centres for International Integration .
In order to face growing individualism and current superficiality, the Foundation
wishes to soon organise a different kind of meeting to rediscover oneself, thanks to
the Activities of the Research Centres for International Integration.
We strongly believe that our society, not only needs financial and economic
resources deriving from traditional tourism, but also it needs the activities of the
Research Centres to guarantee its own growth at the beginning of the third
Millennium where money, power, prestige and pleasure for pleasure’s sake, prevail, such commodities must be limited to a strategy rather than considered as a
goal. In the third millennium “to be” must be absolutely more important than “to
have”.
The result of the research of these International Integration Laboratories shall
become part of normal daily life, through osmosis.
The activity of the Research Centres for International Integration shall be oriented
to exalt meetings, mutual understanding and friendship among people, thus contributing to world peace, starting with young people of different cultures and countries.
This activity can be realised by resorting to free initiative in order to exalt challenges
with imagination and individual ability, dynamism, enthusiasm and commitment of
the people involved.
5 – IN CONCLUSION:
INTHE
LABORATORIES
FOR INTERNATIONAL INTEGRATION, BEYOND
PEACE
The Foundation shall confirm the importance of Life as a Commitment beyond
Peace, in order to contribute to the restoration of our life style. Such a lifestyle is
often excessively influenced by our daily life which is increasingly oriented
towards unlimited disposable consumerism. It is a lifestyle which deeply contrasts
with the concepts of preservation and restoration particularly appreciated nowadays.
Life is seen as a commitment which negatively affect the way we look at the past,
or at our historical heritage and at our social values.
Free countries must decide to heavily invest on the international socialisation
process, considering it as a strategy for a balanced growth of their society. Control
of individualism and selfishness shall be ensured, thanks to the contribution of
research, preservation, restoration and rehabilitation of the ancient values of
socialisation in order to better appreciate friendship among countries rather than
a world of loneliness.
