Per la dodicesima volta la Rolex FEI World Cup™ torna a far
tappa nella nostra città, inserendosi nella prestigiosa cornice di
Fieracavalli-Jumping Verona.
L’evento chiamerà a raccolta i migliori protagonisti del salto ostacoli
internazionale per i quali, quest’anno, saranno messi a disposizione
nuovi spazi polifunzionali che ospiteranno, oltre al campo gara,
anche le scuderie, il campo prova e gli stand, garantendo l’ideale
accoglienza ai grandi campioni (cavalli e cavalieri) partecipanti.
I visitatori di Fieracavalli avranno la possibilità di vedere in azione
i protagonisti dei Giochi Olimpici di Londra che si sfideranno in
gare emozionanti, dall’alto tasso tecnico e spettacolare. Una
dimostrazione concreta della capacità della città e della sua Fiera
di proporsi come sede ideale per eventi di livello internazionale,
capaci di attirare migliaia di persone da tutto il mondo.
For the twelfth time, the Rolex FEI World Cup™ returns to our
city in the prestigious setting of Fieracavalli-Jumping Verona.
The event will attract the top names in international show jumping
who this year will benefit from the new, multi-purpose facilities
hosting not only the competition ring but also the stables, the
warm-up field and the stands, ensuring an ideal welcome to the
champions (horses and riders) taking part.
Visitors to Fieracavalli will have the chance to see the leading
figures of the London Olympic Games in action, competing in
exciting races blending superb technique with spectacular
performances.This is an effective demonstration of the capacity
of the City of Verona and its Exhibition Centre to stand as an
ideal venue for world-class events attracting thousands of people
from all around the world.

Per conto della Federazione Equestre Internazionale (FEI), l’organo
che governa lo sport equestre, mi fa molto piacere darvi il benvenuto
a Verona per la quarta tappa di qualificazione della Rolex FEI World
Cup™ Jumping 2012/2013.
On behalf of the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI), the governing body of equestrian sport, it gives me great pleasure to
welcome you to Verona for the fourth qualifier of the Rolex FEI
World Cup™ Jumping 2012/2013.
Verona è una meravigliosa cornice e vetrina per una delle gare più
prestigiose di questo sport e un grande evento nel contesto della
Western European League (il girone dell’Europa occidentale), parte
di una serie globale ora nel suo quarto decennio che si è ampliata
sino ad includere 14 leghe con ben 134 eventi di qualificazioni prima
della finale di Göteborg nel prossimo mese di aprile.
Verona is a wonderful backdrop to showcase one of the sport’s
most prestigious series and a great event in the Western European
League, part of a series which is now into its fourth decade and
has expanded to include 14 leagues with no less than 134 qualifiers leading to the Final in Gothenburg next April.
È stato un anno olimpico fantastico per il nostro sport e per la
comunità equestre, che con grande capacità e sportività ci condurrà
verso un futuro più globale e significativo. È attraverso eventi quali
la FEI World Cup™ che possiamo continuare a promuovere i valori
del nostro sport, dei nostri cavalieri e dei nostri nobili partner – i
cavalli, appunto – e cercare in profondità tutto il talento presente nel

It has been a tremendous Olympic year for our sport and the
equetrian community, with great diversity, ability and sportsmanship leading us towards a more global and meaningful future. It is
through series such as the FEI World Cup™ that we can continue
to promote the values of our sport, our riders and our noble equine
partners and dig deep into the amazing talent around the world.

della Federazione italiana sport equestri agli atleti e agli appassionati del settore presenti alla 114° Fieracavalli. La prestigiosa rassegna equestre internazionale, che ospita ormai da diversi anni
l’unica tappa italiana del circuito Rolex FEI World Cup™ di salto
ostacoli, è per la nostra Federazione un importante appuntamento
di confronto che contribuisce allo sviluppo del comparto equestre
con particolare attenzione allo sport di primo livello.
It is with great pleasure that I extend my personal welcome and
that of the Italian Equestrian Sports Federation to the athletes
and enthusiasts taking part in the 114th Fieracavalli. For our
Federation, this prestigious international equestrian event – home
for many years to the only Italian stage in the Rolex FEI World
Cup™ show jumping circuit – is an important occasion for
comparisons that contribute to the development of the equestrian sector with a special emphasis on sport.
L’evento scaligero cade in un momento molto particolare per l’economia internazionale, che di riflesso coinvolge anche il nostro
settore. Per questo lo sforzo messo in atto da Veronafiere, dagli
espositori, dagli organizzatori e da tutti coloro che gravitano attorno
a questo splendido mondo, oggi manifesta chiaramente un grande
senso di responsabilità. La Federazione, che mi onoro di presiedere da appena due mesi, sarà al fianco di tutte queste realtà e
si impegnerà a svolgere il suo ruolo operando quanto necessario
per uscire dalla crisi del nostro comparto. L’attenzione alla spesa,
messa in atto già dal primo giorno del mandato, dovrà garantire risorse alla programmazione e allo sport, praticando un taglio
alle spese di funzionamento, con la certezza di potere garantire
comunque i servizi necessari a tutti i tesserati. Solo così, sono
convinta, riusciremo a ottenere i risultati auspicati.
The Veronese event takes place at a very particular time for the
international economy, which consequently also affects our
sector. This is why the commitment of Veronafiere, exhibitors,
organisers and everyone else focusing on this splendid world
today clearly shows such a great sense of responsibility. The
Federation which I am proud to represent for just two months
will be at the side of all these realities and will play its own necessary part to emerge from the crisis in our sector. Close attention to spending, implemented from the first day of my mandate,
must guarantee resources and planning for sport by cutting
overheads while still ensuring necessary services to all members. I am convinced that this is the only way we can achieved
the desired results.
La kermesse veronese, che vanta ad oggi oltre un secolo di storia, è di basilare importanza per il nostro mondo, che oggi ha
bisogno di queste iniziative per arrivare direttamente alle famiglie, attraverso la presenza delle scuole e facendo leva sulla rilevante onda mediatica collegata Fieracavalli e Jumping Verona.
Agli appassionati del settore e ai visitatori porgo il mio saluto, nella
speranza che possano trascorrere quattro giornate all’insegna
del cavallo. Ai cavalieri, alle amazzoni, ai tecnici, ai proprietari e
agli allevatori, veri protagonisti del nostro sport insieme ai cavalli,
auguro di raggiungere in questa edizione i risultati auspicati.

salto ostacoli, disciplina che esalta naturalmente l’eleganza e la
potenza dell’animale. Due qualità che tornano protagoniste sotto i
riflettori di Jumping Verona, la tappa ufficiale della Rolex FEI World
Cup™, presente anche in questa 114° edizione di Fieracavalli.
L’appuntamento si rinnova alla Fiera di Verona dal 2001, forte
dell’esclusività di unico evento in Italia nel circuito della Coppa
del Mondo di salto ostacoli e di una organizzazione impeccabile,

In the collective imagination, horses are often associated with
show jumping, a discipline that naturally enhances the elegance
and power of these noble animals. And these two qualities are
once again in the limelight at Jumping Verona, the official stage
of the Rolex FEI World Cup™ hosted once again at the 114th
edition of Fieracavalli. This appointment at VeronaFiere dates
back to 2001 and benefits from the exclusivity of only Italy in
the Show Jumping World Cup programme and the impeccable
organisation that only Fiercavalli can ensure.
Il gotha dell’equitazione internazionale, quindi, scende in pista a
Verona, nella più importante e completa manifestazione dedicata
a cavalieri, aziende e appassionati. Per Veronafiere è un onore
partecipare all’organizzazione di una competizione così prestigiosa
che, quest’anno, cade nel centenario dell’inclusione degli sport
equestri nel programma dei Giochi Olimpici.
The big names in international equitation will return to Verona
and the most important and comprehensive event dedicated
to riders, companies and enthusiasts alike. It is an honour for
Veronafiere to be involved in the organisation of such a prestigious competition that, this year, coincides with the centenary
of the inclusion of equestrian sports in the Olympic Games
programme.
Il nostro contributo per la buona riuscita di Jumping Verona è
massimo, in linea con le aspettative legate ad una iniziativa di
così alto profilo, ribalta privilegiata per il salto ostacoli ed i suoi
campioni: uno sport che ha sempre maggior seguito, come
dimostrano i posti esauriti intorno al ring di gara della scorsa
edizione e il calore del pubblico.
Il successo è frutto anche della collaborazione con FISE,
la Federazione Italiana Sport Equestri e dell’attenzione che
Veronafiere riserva alle proprie manifestazioni. Fieracavalli, 12
anni fa, decise di puntare sul mondo del jumping e l’investimento

We make every possible effort to ensure the success of Jumping
Verona in line with the expectations associated with such a
high-profile initiative, a preferential stage for show jumping and
its champions: and an increasingly popular sport, as evidenced
by the full-house around the competition ring last year and the
enthusiastic warmth of the audience.
Success is also the result of collaboration with FISE, the Italian
Equestrian Sports Federation, and the attention that Veronafiere
to pays to its events. Twelve years ago, Fieracavalli decided to
focus on the world of show jumping and the investment continues today in the form of energy, ideas and facilities.
This year, in fact, the spaces available for the show jumping
sector are expanded by 6,000 square metres, with the inauguration of stables and a warm-up field for horses competing in

Fieracavalli has been a leading player in the history of Italian
equitation for more than a century. The event was first held at
the Verona Exhibition Centre in 1898 and has grown edition after
edition, to the extent of becoming today the international landmark for the entire equestrian world. Fieracavalli, building on its
tradition, has found the perfect balance between its commercial
and spectacular aspects through an impressive programme of
events including the 12th edition of Jumping Verona, only Italian
stage of the Rolex FEI World Cup™ – one of the most eagerly
awaited by show jumping enthusiasts.
L’iniziativa si accompagna alle tante in programma nella quattro giorni veronese, come il debutto del salone “Cavallo, in tutti
sensi”, il Gala d’Oro-Symphonia, il Westernshow, il Villaggio del

Una formula che per Veronafiere – primo organizzatore diretto
di manifestazioni in Italia e ai vertici in Europa – si è rivelata vincente, come testimoniano i numeri dell’edizione 2011: oltre 155
mila visitatori da più di 70 paesi, 650 espositori da 25 nazioni,
3mila cavalli, 35 associazioni allevatoriali, 19 delegazioni estere
e 160 tra gare sportive, concorsi e convegni.
This formula implemented by Veronafiere – the leading direct
organiser of exhibition events in Italy and at the top in Europe
– has proved to be extremely successful, as highlighted by figures
for the 2011 edition: more than 155 thousand visitors from more

Con Fieracavalli l’eccellenza è di casa nei padiglioni del quartiere fieristico scaligero. Lo storico appuntamento (114° edizione
quest’anno…) è unanimemente riconosciuto come palcoscenico

La storia della World Cup in Italia ha inizio dopo cinque anni dal
varo dell’iniziativa, a Milano nel 1983, quando fu il Palasport ad
ospitare la prima tappa. L’anno successivo, a causa di una forte
nevicata che danneggiò seriamente le strutture del palazzetto
milanese, l’appuntamento viene spostato presso circolo ippico
Brianteo di Birago alle porte del capoluogo lombardo. Dopo un’interruzione dovuta alla mancanza di una sede idonea, finalmente,
nel 1995, il Gotha del salto ostacoli internazionale si riunisce nuovamente in Italia, in quella che sarebbe divenuta la sede dell’appuntamento italiano per sei edizioni: il Palasport di Casalecchio
di Reno (BO).
A cavallo del nuovo millennio, nella primavera del 2000 lo staff di
Fieracavalli si riunisce per preparare la candidatura di Verona quale
sede del prestigioso evento. Il primo appuntamento nella sede
scaligera, nel novembre 2001, si rivela un successo. L’edizione
2002 è superlativa e registra la presenza dei primi 10 cavalieri del
mondo della classifica FEI/GANDINI Rankings. Successo pieno
anche per l’edizione 2003: l’organizzazione e le strutture ottengono il plauso unanime di cavalieri, pubblico e addetti ai lavori e
confermano l’Italia tra i paesi di vertice nella pianificazione di eventi
equestri di massima levatura. Anche sulla scorta del successo
organizzativo della FEI World Cup™ a Fieracavalli, la Federazione
Equestre Internazionale ha scelto di affidare al nostro paese la
World Cup Final 2004 disputata al Forum di Assago di Milano.
The history of the World Cup in Italy took off five years after the
laumch of the event in Milan in 1983, when Palasport hosted the
first stage. The following year, in the wake of heavy snowfalls that
severely damaged the facilities of this site, the event was transferred to the Brianteo di Birago horse riding centre just outside
Milan itself. The break caused by the lack of suitable facilities
was finally closed in 1995, when the top international show jumping riders and horses returned to Italy – and its Italian home for
the next six editions: Palasport in Casalecchio di Reno (BO).
In Spring 2000, Fieracavalli staff met to candidate Verona as the
new home to this prestigious event. The first “World Cup” held
in Verona in November 2001 was hugely successful. The 2002
edition was quite simply superlative and involved the top 10 world
riders in the FEI/GANDINI Rankings. The 2003 edition was also
very successful: organisation and facilities were unanimously
applauded by riders, audiences and experts in confirming Italy
as one of the best hosts for planning such top-level equestrian
events. In the wake of organisational success for the FEI World
Cup™ at FieraCavalli, the International Equestrian Federation
nominated Italy as host country for the World Cup Final 2004 at
the Forum Assago in Milan.

Lo scorso aprile Steve Guerdat si trovava sul secondo gradino del
podio della Finale della Rolex FEI World Cup™ Jumping ad s-Hertogenbosch, Olanda. Il cavaliere svizzero sapeva di aver già ottenuto grandi risultati nella sua carriera. Aveva dato tutto nelle due
manche della prova a tempo, ma fu costretto a cedere alla determinazione pura di un cavallo e di un cavaliere che, molto semplicemente, non mollano mai.
When Switzerland’s Steve Guerdat stood on the second step of
the podium at the Rolex FEI World Cup™ Jumping Final in
‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands last April he knew he had
already achieved a great deal in his career. He had given his all
in a two-way jump-off against the clock, but was forced to yield
to the pure determination of a horse and rider who, quite simply,
never give up.
Lo statunitense Rich Fellers alzò il trofeo con enorme orgoglio. Dopo
25 anni di vuoto e cinque tentativi personali in cui c’era andato vicino,
aveva conquistato per il suo Paese la corona più ambita della stagione del salto ostacoli indoor. Il suo partner è stato un cavallo di
sedici anni che, come il suo cavaliere di 52 anni, ha ancora molta
passione, coraggio e grinta.

He had clinched the coveted crown of the indoor jumping season
for his country for the first time in 25 years, and he did it after
five previous attempts during which he came so close to victory
on several occasions. And his partner throughout was a horse
now in his 16th year, yet, like his 52-year-old rider, still filled with
the passion, courage and grit that sets the best apart from the
rest.

La vittoria è un tema ricorrente in questa serie che ha calamitato
la mente e l’immaginazione dei partecipanti e del pubblico sin dal
suo inizio nel 1978. Il cavaliere austriaco Hugo Simon, così piccolo
in sella al suo gigantesco Gladstone, è stato tra i primi a vincere il
titolo a Göteborg, in Svezia, nella primavera dell’anno seguente e
sebbene la formula abbia subito alcune modifiche negli anni l’emozione non è mai venuta meno.
Binomi come Ian Millar e Big Ben (Canada), due volte campioni e
John Whitaker su Milton (Gran Bretagna) sono ancora oggi considerati dei mostri sacri, mentre i cavalieri che hanno ottenuto più vittorie in assoluto sono quattro. La Germania detiene il record per il
maggior numero di successi, nove nell’arco di 34 anni, con Marcus
Ehning e Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum che sono saliti sul gradino
più alto del podio per ben tre volte, simboli di una nazione che è
stata dominante nello sport moderno.
Hugo Simon ha compiuto un clamoroso ritorno, 17 anni dopo il suo
successo nella stagione inaugurale, con due vittorie consecutive in
Fellers’ and the stallion Flexible, a horse that was written off several times during his career due to illness and injury, have, like
so many of the great champions of the Rolex FEI World Cup™
Jumping series before them, etched their names into hearts and
history-books as legends in their own lifetimes.
Recurring Theme
This is a recurring theme of the series that has gripped the minds
and imagination of the participants and the public alike since its
inception in 1978. The diminutive Austrian, Hugo Simon, and his
giant of a horse, Gladstone, were first to take the title in
Gothenburg, Sweden the following spring, and although the
formula has undergone some changes down the years, the
excitement has never waned.
Partnerships like double-champions Ian Millar and Big Ben from
Canada and Great Britain’s John Whitaker and Milton are still
held in awe, while four riders have placed themselves above all
others in terms of winning performances. Germany holds the
record for most victories, nine in total over the 34-year period
since it all began, and both Marcus Ehning and Meredith MichaelsBeerbaum were three-time winners for this nation that has been
so dominant in the modern sport.

solo due campioni della FEI World Cup™ Jumping – Markus Fuchs,

Simon made a sensational return, 17 years after his success in
the inaugural season, to add a back-to-back double with his
gelding ET, while Brazil’s Rodrigo Pessoa and his fabulous stallion, Baloubet du Rouet, recorded their treble at consecutive
finals between 1998 and 2000, an exceptional achievement by
any standard.
Quality of performance
Quality of performance, astute judgment, split-second decisionmaking skills, reliability and style have all been key to success in
this series that tests horses and riders throughout the super-tough
qualifying rounds over the winter months. So it was the perfect
fit when the distinguished watch-making company Rolex, which
has a long association with equestrian sport, became title-sponsor of the Western European League and the grand annual Rolex
FEI World Cup™ Jumping Final in 2007.
The company is headquartered in Switzerland, which has produced just two FEI World Cup™ Jumping champions – Markus
Fuchs, who triumphed with Tinka’s Boy in 2001, and Beat Mandli,
who came out on top with Ideo du Thot six years later.
Now Switzerland has the reigning Olympic champion, as Steve
Guerdat followed his narrow defeat at last season’s Rolex final
by taking gold at London 2012. The 30 year old rider said in
‘s-Hertogenbosch that he was determined to “do better next
time”, and having clinched Olympic glory after yet another thrilling jump-off that kept spectators on the edges of their seats he
will be the man to beat, as he has another prestigious target
clearly in his sights – the Rolex FEI World Cup™ Jumping
2012/2013 title.

Kevin Staut non è solo il più forte cavaliere francese, arriva a Verona inserito al
6° posto nel ranking internazionale, ma
ha anche un record che nessun altro atleta
potrà mai battere.
Kevin Staut is not only the top French rider
– coming to Verona 6th in the international
rankings – but also has boasts a record that
no other rider will ever beat.
He was the first rider in the history of equitation to be invited to
join the Executive Board of the FEI, the leading world body for
equestrian sports. On this board, he is the voice of the International
Jumping Riders Club, the world association of professional riders. He was called to this role because riders and federations
saw in him the necessary skills for defending and safeguarding
riders’ interests while, at the same time, working for the general
good of the sport.

Staut rappresenta una nuova figura di cavaliere, i cui interessi
non si fermano solo al campo gara e alla preparazione dei cavalli,
ma si allargano a tutti gli aspetti dell’equitazione: rapporti con le

E’ stato il primo atleta nella storia dell’equitazione a essere chiamato nell’Executive Board della FEI, il massimo organismo mondiale degli sport equestri. Luogo dove rappresenta la voce dell’International Jumping Riders Club, l’associazione mondiale dei
cavalieri professionisti. Ruolo assegnatogli perché atleti e federazioni hanno visto in lui le capacità necessarie a difendere e tutelare gli interessi dei cavalieri e di operare, nello stesso tempo, per
il bene generale dello sport.
“E’importante che chi abbia la fortuna di essere conosciuto
metta al servizio di buone cause la sua immagine – spiega il
cavaliere francese – del resto la figura del cavaliere sta cambiando velocemente. Non devi solo montare bene, ma renderti
conto di essere attore di un sistema sportivo economico complesso, che chiede molto si suoi protagonisti”. Tutto questo
non lo distrae però dalle competizioni. I risultati parlano chiaro.
Campione europeo individuale nel 2009 a Windsor (GB) con
Kraque Boom, secondo a squadre due anni dopo a Madrid
con Silvana de Hus, mentre dai Mondiali di Lexington (USA)
è tornato con l’argento a squadre, ottenuto sempre con la
stessa cavalla. Quanto basta a iscriverlo di diritto tra i cavalieri
da seguire con un occhio di riguardo a Jumping Verona 2012.

Staut is a new kind of rider: his interests by no means end
outside the competition arena and the preparation of horses
but extend to all aspects of equitation: relationships with federations, sponsors and organisers. Without forgetting his
social commitments as the testimonial for an international
voluntary association helping children in third world countries.
“It is very important that people who have the good fortune
of being famous use their image at the service of good causes,”
explains the French rider; “in any case, the figure of riders is
changing rapidly. You not only have to perform well in the
saddle but also realise that you are a player in a complex
sporting-economic system which demands a great deal from
its leading figures.” None of all this, however, distracts his
competitive spirit. Facts speak for themselves. 2009 European
individual champion in Windsor (UK) with Kraque Boom, second in the team event two years later in Madrid on Silvana
de Hus – not to mention a silver medal on the same mare at
the World Championships in Lexington (USA). More than
enough to keep a close eye on him as one of the favourites
at Jumping Verona 2012.

La sua prima partecipazione a un Campionato europeo è datata
1981, esordio in Coppa delle Nazioni l’anno successivo proprio
in Italia a Piazza di Siena, mentre il primo Mondiale dove è sceso
in campo è stato quello dell’edizione del 1994 a Hague (NED).
E proprio ai Weg si lega il successo più importante della sua
lunga carriera, quello che l’ha consacrato tra i “campionissimi”
del salto ostacoli: oro individuale a Lexington (USA) nel 2010.
Medaglia accompagnata anche da un bronzo nella competizione a squadre. Risultati raggiunti in sella al cavallo cui il belga
si sente più legato: lo stallone Vigo D’Arsouilles.
His first ride in the European Championships dates back to
1981, with a Nations Cup debut the following year in Piazza di
Siena, Italy, while his first performance in a World Championship
was at the 1994 edition in The Hague (NED). And it was precisely with WEG that he achieved the most important success
in his long career, taking his place among the “champions” of
show jumping: individual gold in Lexington (USA) in 2010.
Accompanied by a bronze medal in the team competition. And
these results were achieve in the saddle of the horse closest
to the Belgian rider’s heart: stallion Vigo D’Arsouilles.
Cavallo che Lejeune ha iniziato
a montare quando era solo un
puledro e che è riuscito a portare, dopo anni di allenamento
e di gare, sul gradino più alto
del podio mondiale e con cui ha
costruito un rapporto d’affetto
e reciproca fiducia. “Io cerco
di rispettare il più possibile la
natura dei cavalli e di farli vivere
secondo le loro regole. Dopo
la premiazione di Lexington
ho detto che preferisco la compagnia dei cavalli a quella degli
uomini. Mi hanno guardato con stupore, ma è la verità. I cavalli
non fanno mai niente di cattivo, sono sempre sinceri e hanno
sempre fiducia di noi”. Sono questi lo spirito e la passione con
cui Lejeune affronta l’equitazione: rispetto e amore per i cavalli.
E con Vigo continua a levarsi grandi soddisfazioni, come la vittoria in Coppa delle Nazioni e il secondo posto in Gran Premio
nella scorsa primavera a La Baule (FRA).
Lejeune began riding this
horse even as a foal and managed with him, after years of
training and competition, to
take the highest place on the
podium thanks to a relationship of mutual affection and
trust. “I try to respect the
nature ofhorses as much as
possible and let them live by
their own rules. After the
award ceremony at Lexington
I said that I prefer the company of horses to that of people.
People reacted with amazement, but it’s true. Horses never do
anything unkind, are always sincere and always trust us.” This
is the spirit and passion with which Lejeune tackles riding:
respect and love for horses. And he continues to achieve great
results with Vigo, such as the Nations Cup victory and second
place in the Grand Prix last spring in La Baule (FRA).

L’edizione 2012 di Jumping Verona,
unica tappa italiana della Rolex FEI
World Cup™, si tinge di rosa.
Quest’anno la partecipazione femminile è particolarmente nutrita e,
soprattutto, di altissimo livello. Dalla svizzera arriva il trio Christina
Liebherr, Janika Sprunger, Clarissa Crotta, dalla Svezia e Malyn
Baryard-Johnsson, dall’Irlanda Jessica Kuerten, dal Portogallo
Luciana Diniz, per la Spagna Lucrecia Cordon e per i colori azzurri
Lucia Vizzini. Facile pronosticarle tra i protagonisti del concorso,
ma quella che si presenta al concorso scaligero con la migliore
classifica FEI è Edwina Tops Alexander.
This year welcomes a good number of top level lady riders.
Switzerland is sending the trio of Christina Liebherr, Janika
Sprunger and Clarissa Crotta, joined by Malyn Baryard-Johnsson
from Sweden, Jessica Kuerten of Ireland, Luciana Diniz from
Portugal, Lucrecia Cordon from Spain and Italian rider Lucia
Vizzini. It is no hard task to name her as one of the sure protagonists at the event, but the lady set to compete in Verona
with the best FEI ranking is Edwina Alexander Tops.
L’australiana con il suo 10° posto è oggi l’unica amazzone nella top
ten del ranking mondiale. La sua prima grande apparizione sulla
ribalta internazionale avviene nel 2004 ai Campionati del mondo di
Aachen. Entra, prima atleta farlo nella storia con i colori dell’Australia,
nella finale a quattro. Chiusa poi con il quarto posto. Da allora la
sua storia si lega definitivamente al nostro continente, dove vive,
si allena e dove sposa l’olandese Jan Tops, cavaliere dal grande
passato agonistico (ora a squadre alle Olimpiadi di Barcellona ’92)
e oggi organizzatore di uno dei grandi circuiti internazionali del salto
ostacoli: il “Global Champion Tour”. Circuito che la Alexander si è
già aggiudicata due volte e di cui detiene il record di montepremi
vinto: 1 milione e novecentocinquantamila euro.
The Australian currently ranks 10th and is the only lady in the top
ten world rankings. Her first major appearance on the international
stage was in 2004 at the World Championships in Aachen. The
first Australian rider to do so, she made it to the four-rider final.
She closed in fourth place. Since then, her personal life has seen
her settle in Europe, where she lives and trains after marrying
Jan Tops, the Dutch rider from great riding past (team gold at
the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992) and now an organiser
of one of the great international show jumping circuits: the “Global
Champion Tour”. A circuit that Alexander has already won twice,
holding the prize money record: one million nine hundred and
fifty thousand euros.

è arrivato ai vertici del Gran Premio Rolex Fei World Cup ™ di
Fieracavalli in sella a Seldana di Campalto (5°), la cavalla con cui
ha guadagnato la medaglia d’argento ai Campionati d’Europa di
Windsor e che è stata venduta alla vigilia dei Mondiali di Lexington
con destinazione le scuderie del saudita Abdullah Al Sharbatly.

bay partnered since Spring 2011, are absolutely perfect for the
role of “special guest” at Jumping Verona. “Verona is a very special place and quite unequalled in terms of audience involvement.
It really is a “must” appointment for us Italian riders and I personally I always try to not miss it”.
The rider born in Piedmont but Tuscan by adoption, came to the
top of the Rolex Fei World Cup™ Grand Prix at Fieracavalli in
2009 riding Seldana di Campalto (5th), the mare that helped him
take the silver medal at the European Championships in Windsor
and sold on the eve of the Lexington World Championships to
the Saudi stables of Abdullah Al Sharbatly. “Replacing a horse
like her seemed to be an absolutely impossible undertaking but

soggetto all’epoca veramente complicato da montare ma estremamente potente. Non credo di aver mai avuto sotto la sella
un cavallo della sua classe. La sua difficoltà è stata per me una
nuova sfida e, come sanno tutti, a me tutto ciò che ha il sapore
di impresa piace e stimola. E’ straordinario e molto sensibile e
lo dimostra continuamente. II suo sgroppare, ancora frequente,
altro non è che la manifestazione di quella grande forza che ha
in qualche modo necessità di esprimere. Con lui ho dovuto ricominciare con l’ABC ma i risultati sono davvero entusiasmanti”.

a horse with his class. His complexity was a new challenge for

and proves it over and over again. His still frequent bucking is

individual bronze medal on Blue Loyd. An outstanding and in many ways unexpected performance that has a very special flavour.

Championships 2012, she was a member of the
Italian team at the last European Championships.
He is the dean of the Italian team and the rider

he decided to live in Germany in order to make

Per i più sportivi, oltre al Jumping Verona, c’è la silver edition del
Concorso Nazionale Pony, che vede sfidarsi sul filo dei secondi le
promesse del salto ostacoli italiano. Grande spazio anche all’intrattenimento con il villaggio del bambino, interamente dedicato
ai più piccoli.
La magia dello spettacolo torna con l’appuntamento serale,

ANICA (Italian National Arabian Horse Association) and set up
with the majestic stage scenery loaned by the Arena di Verona
Foundation is home to a great many competitions and displays,
including the International Morphology Championships and the
II Fieracavalli Grand Prix for thoroughbred Arabians born and

reared in Italy. For the first time as coordinator of the Exhibition
of Spanish Horses, the U.A.I.P.R.E. (United Italian Pura Raza
Española Associations) – the only Association officially recognised
by ANCEE (coordinator of competitions and events dedicated to
Spanish breeds) – in addition to traditional “Alta Escuela” and
doma vaquera competitions presented by the Alta Escuela
Española Association. The Western Show hosts the best
Appaloosas, Paint and Quarter Horse champions taking part in
morphology competitions and Barrel Racing, Team Penning, Pole
Bending, Western Pleasure, Freestyle Reining events, as well as
demonstrations of Cutting and Freestyle Cowboys Race.
There are also new entries in the Italialleva Hall: Thanks to A.I.A.
(Italian Breeders Association), about 350 horses entered in the
Stud Books and the Official Register will be on display, joined
this year by four more breeds: Knabstrupper, Viterbese donkey,
the Roman Latium Maremma Horse and the Apennine Horse.
For sports enthusiasts, Jumping Verona is joined by the silver
anniversary edition of the National Pony Competition, where
promising young riders in Italian show jumping compete in splitsecond events.
The spectacular magic returns with the evening appointment:
Symphonia. Eagerly-awaited guests include Mario Luraschi, the
Italian-French stuntman, Alessandro Conte (recently crowned by
the Guinness Book of Records for saddle-back acrobatics) and
Charlie, the smallest horse in the world. Another small star will
be Sasà, the winner of the last edition of Talent&Horses.

momenti più attesi della manifestazione:

The evenings of 8, 9 and 10 November will
transport spectators into a world where horses
becomes pure poetry. When the lights off in the
halls are switched off and the spotlights illuminate
Fieracavalli’s Ring of Honour, one of the most
eagerly awaited moments of the whole show comes
to life: the Gold Gala.
Symphonia, questo è il nome scelto dal regista Antonio Giarola
per l’evento in cui il cavallo mette la propria potenza e agilità al
servizio della danza e dove la bellezza e l’eleganza si fondono
con l’armonia della musica. Nello show, che segue i principi
e i criteri delle precedenti edizioni, si alterneranno coreografie
corali, cavalli in libertà e esibizioni di dressage. La musica sarà
l’elemento comune: accompagnerà tutte le esibizioni delle
serate in programma, passando dalla più classica Turandot al
pop scatenato di Michael Jackson.
Symphonia – the name chosen by Director Antonio Giarola for
the event where horses turn their power and agility into dance,
where beauty and elegance blend with the harmony of music.
The show follows the concepts and criteria of previous editions
by alternating group choreography, free-rein horses and dressage
performances. Music will be the unifying theme: music will
accompany all the performances scheduled for the evening show,
swapping between the classic notes of Turandot and the frenzied
pop of Michael Jackson.

La star della spettacolo è Mario Luraschi. Il cascadeur, cavaliere-controfigura del cinema internazionale, ritorna a Fieracavalli
dopo quattro anni. Grazie ad un assolo sulle musiche di “Singing
in the rain”, alla direzione dei Cascadeur de Paris e a due performance corali, incanterà il pubblico mostrando il legame magico
che corre tra l’uomo e il cavallo.
The star of the show is Mario Luraschi. The “cascadeur”, the
international cinema rider-stunt double, returns to Fieracavalli
after four years. Thanks to a solo to the music of “Singing in the
Rain”, direction of Cascadeur de Paris and two choral
performances, he will enchant audiences by highlighting the
magical bond that exists between people and horses.
Nel cast saranno presenti anche due fenomeni appena incoronati
dal Guiness World Record: Alessandro Conte, record man nel volteggio, e Charlie, il mini horse più piccolo al mondo. Charlie non
è, però, l’unico piccolo “artista” di questo spettacolo: durante le
serate dello show di Fieracavalli si esibirà, infatti, anche Sasà, il
ragazzo-prodigio dodicenne che l’anno scorso ha vinto la prima
edizione di Talenti&Cavalli. Sasà si esibirà in un numero di volteggio affiancato da due padrini d’eccezione: Luraschi e Conte.
The cast will also include two phenomena recently crowned by

The black and pop music rhythms of one of the world’s bestloved albums inspire “Thriller”: an undoubtedly unusual tribute to
the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, with parading and dancing
horses and ballerinas interpreting some of his top hits.
The most famous stars in international equestrian art, from spectacular horseback acrobatics to the most elegant dressage steps,
will come together under the sky of Verona to offer spectators
all the magic of horses in a truly Gala programme.

La passione di Luraschi per il cavallo nasce da un interesse per
la vita e la storia degli indiani d’America, che lo porta – a soli 18
anni – a partecipare all’apertura di un parco divertimenti dedicato a loro. Qui impara ad unire la sua innata predisposizione
per lo sport equestre allo spettacolo. Negli anni successivi viaggia in tutto il mondo attraversando Spagna e Portogallo, per arrivare fino in Argentina e Stati Uniti, dove conosce alcuni dei più
grandi artisti equestri e dove impara a vivere in perfetta armonia
con il cavallo. Sono questi gli anni in cui, unendo ecletticità, abilità e sicurezza nella monta, inizia a calcare le scene del cinema
internazionale facendo da controfigura a grandi attori come Alain

Luraschi’s passion for horses began from an interest in the life
and history of Native Americans, which saw him – at just 18 years
old – take part in the opening of a theme park dedicated to them.
Here, he learnt how to combine his innate predisposition for
equestrian sport with spectacular performances. Over the next
few years, he travelled around the world – crossing Spain and
Portugal before reaching Argentina and the United States, where
he met some of the finest equestrian artists and learnt to live in
perfect harmony with horses. These were the years when – combining versatility, skill and self-assurance in the saddle – he began
to appear in the international film scene as a stunt double for top
actors such as Alain Delon, Harrison Ford and Sean Connery
and becoming one of the most popular equestrian stuntmen in
the world.

occhi o entrare nell’atmosfera inebriante che le serate d’opera e di spettacolo sanno creare. Certo i cruenti combattimenti dei
gladiatori cominciavano all’alba, e al posto delle tesserine d’entrata in osso e avorio, oggi si usano i biglietti con sistemi di prenotazione on line, ma l’emozione alla vista del più maestoso e più vivo gioiello di Verona, dopo 2000 anni è ancora la stessa.

della città...Casa Capuleti, meglio nota come casa di Giulietta, risale al XIII secolo. E’ una casa torre, per lungo tempo di proprietà
della famiglia Dal Cappello, il cui stemma è scolpito sull’arco interno del cortile. La facciata in mattoni a vista è decorata da eleganti finestre trilobate, tra cui spicca il famoso balcone dal quale Giulietta si sarebbe affacciata per parlare con Romeo. Disposta
su vari piani e visitabile acquistando un biglietto, offre una verosimile ricostruzione delle tipiche dimore signorili del quattordicesimo secolo, valorizzata da una vasta scelta di ceramiche medioevali.
Juliet ‘s house, “There is no world without Verona walls”: the pen of William Shakespeare has lent Verona fame and immortality
with his tale of two star-crossed lovers, Romeo Montecchi (Montagu) and Juliet Capuleti (Capulet). The story of their tragic love is
set in two precise locations – Juliet’s house and the tomb. The Capulet House, best known as “Juliet’s House”, dates back to the
thirteenth century. It is tower-shaped and belonged to the Dal Cappello family, whose coat-of-arms is visible above the inner archway of the court-yard. The brick façade is decorated by elegant gothic windows standing on either side of the famous balcony
on which Juliet is said to have spoken to Romeo. The house has several storeys and tickets can be bought to visit it. The interior contains the furniture of a typical fourteenth century aristocratic household, enhanced by a wide range of medieval ceramics.

Rizzo, cresciuto in un storica osteria gestita dai genitori, rivive questa esperienza con “I Masenini”, un ricordo del passato e dei

Aperta prima della metà del secolo scorso, la trattoria è nata come semplice osteria per mano di un pompiere andato in pensione,
che mai diede un nome all’osteria. Per questo fu nominata dai suoi frequentatori “Al Pompiere”, in onore dell’oste fondatore. Nel
tempo l’osteria ha cambiato gestori, è diventata più ampia acquistando lo spazio della piccola ex latteria che era a fianco e che
ora è la saletta più piccola e si sono cominciati a fare dei piatti di cucina. La cucina propone piatti della Tradizione Veronese e
Veneta, eseguiti in modo semplice ma gustoso. In particolare citiamo: la pasta e fagioli, i bigoli con le sarde, gli gnocchi di patate,
i risotti e le tagliatelle con verdure di stagione; nei secondi lo stinco di maiale al forno con purea di patate, il baccalà alla vicentina, la frittata coi cipollotti. I dolci sono preparati da noi: il tiramisù, la torta al cioccolato con salsa all’arancia, la zuppa inglese, la
millefoglie, i semifreddi. La Carta dei Vini è concentrata soprattutto sui Vini di Verona, in particolare i rossi, e poi sul resto d’Italia.
Opened in the first half of the last century, the restaurant started out as a simple tavern run by a retired fireman, who never gave
the tavern a name. That is why it was called “Al Pompiere” by its customers, in honour of its founder. The tavern has changed
hands over the years; it became bigger by buying the former diary next door which is now the smaller room, and cooked food
began to be made. The kitchen offers traditional dishes from Verona and Veneto, very simple but tasty. To name a few: pasta
with beans, bigoli with sardines, potato gnocchi, risottos and tagliatelle with seasonal vegetables; for the main course, baked
pork shank with potato puree, Vicenza-style cod, omelette with spring onions. The desserts are home-made: tiramisù, chocolate cake with orange sauce, trifle, cream puff, ice-cream cake. The wine list mainly has wines from Verona, especially the reds,
but also from the rest of Italy.

Il locale vede nascere nel 1831 la prima gastronomia salumeria di Verona. Riprende esattamente le fattezze di una farmacia antecedente, perduta in un incendio dal quale si salva una tela del ‘700 raffigurante una Madonna con Bambino. L’ambiente si articola
in vari locali. Dove ora ci sono le cantine, dispense e magazzini, un tempo erano impiegate fino a 26 persone addette alla lavorazione e produzione di carni e salumi. La boiserie ed il soffitto della sala grande sono originali dell’epoca. Dopo la lunga ristrutturazione, i locali vengono convertiti in ristorante. Attualmente disponiamo di una sala per 30 persone, una sala più piccola per
18 persone ed una veranda per circa 20 persone. Il menù del ristorante è tipico veronese, la nostra equipe si occupa della selezione dei prodotti e della preparazione. La selezione della cantina soddisferà anche i palati più esigenti e la cortesia del nostro
personale vi accoglierà in ogni Vostra visita.

It was in this building, in 1831, that the first gastronomic delicatessen of Verona was opened. Though the building was damaged by fire, a canvas from ‘700 showing the Madonna and Child was saved. The atmosphere is created through the building’s
various levels. Where we now have the wine cellars, larders and storerooms, was once full with 26 people preparing various cuts
of meat, as well as treating and curing cold meats. With various changes of ownership over the last few years, it has also seen
the opening of a Chinese delicatessen, whose management ended in June 2000. It was in June when I became aware that, with
this locality I would finally be able to realize my life’s dream: a restaurant full of history and fascination, with the perfect atmosphere in which to serve the typical Veronese cuisine that I have brought to the table for over 20 years – to the joy and good taste
of clients that appreciate the quality of life.
