Many Italian-Australian families are coming across old photos that are unique and irreplaceable. But frequently, these photos have not been labelled and it is unclear when and where they were taken and who is represented in them. For Co.As.It., it is important that these rare and precious photographs are not lost or destroyed. We want the community to be sure to leave a rich heritage behind for our future generations. “There’s no time to lose. We need to act now to preserve and archive these precious historical photographs that document the Italian migration experience in NSW.” Linda Nellor Heritage Officer at Co.As.It. During the months of March and April 2008, Co.As.It. will be on the lookout for old black and white historic photographs that will compliment its existing heritage collection, photographs that can help illustrate over 100 years of Italian migration history in NSW. A selection of the photographs uncovered will become part of the new Co.As.It. Collection called ‘Journey to a New Life’ – Italian Migration in NSW.
