Carnevale
Gianni Rodari
Carnevale in filastrocca,
con la maschera sulla bocca,
con la maschera sugli occhi,
con le toppe sui ginocchi:
sono le toppe d’Arlecchino,
vestito di carta, poverino.
Pulcinella è grosso e bianco,
e Pierrot fa il saltimbanco.
Pantalon dei Bisognosi
“Colombina,” dice, “mi sposi?”
Gianduia lecca un cioccolatino
e non ne da niente a Meneghino,
mentre Gioppino col suo randello
mena botte a Stenterello.

‘Co.As.It. Old Photo Search 2008’
New acquisition: Giuseppe Crocco and his workmates standing in front of a
mound of coal at Australian Iron and Steel, Wollongong NSW 1952-3
Co.As.It. invites the Italian-Australian community to participate in an ‘Old Photo
Search’ project for 2008.
Many Italian-Australian families are coming across old photos that are unique and
irreplaceable. But frequently, these photos have not been labelled and it is unclear
when and where they were taken and who is represented in them. For Co.As.It., it is
important that these rare and precious photographs are not lost or destroyed. We want
the community to be sure to leave a rich heritage behind for our future generations.
“There’s no time to lose. We need to act now to preserve and archive these precious
historical photographs that document the Italian migration experience in NSW.”
Linda Nellor Heritage Officer at Co.As.It.
During the months of March and April 2008, Co.As.It. will be on the lookout for old
black and white historic photographs that will compliment its existing heritage
collection, photographs that can help illustrate over 100 years of Italian migration
history in NSW.
A selection of the photographs uncovered will become part of the new Co.As.It.
Collection called ‘Journey to a New Life’ – Italian Migration in NSW. This updated
exhibition will be launched at Parliament House and on show there from 2nd June to
27th June 2008.

Giacomo Antonio Domenico Michele Secondo Maria Puccini (December 22, 1858 –
November 29, 1924) was an Italian composer whose operas, including La Bohème, Tosca,
and Madama Butterfly, are among the most frequently performed in the standard
repertoire.[1][2] Some of his melodies, such as "O Mio Babbino Caro" from Gianni Schicchi and
"Nessun Dorma" from Turandot, have become part of modern culture.

I Love Little Italy Short Film Festival - Call for Entries
It's back! And it's RED hot. That's red as in Rosso, Italian for red, and this year's theme
of the I Love Little Italy Short Film Festival.
A feature event of the Sydney Italian Festival, the I Love Little Italy Short Film Festival
once again calls for entries from budding and experienced filmmakers alike.
As always, great prizes are on offer, including $2000 for the winner and a Young
Filmakers award. Industry judges will be on hand to offer their expertise and
encouragement and the audience will have their say too, voting for their favourite film on
the night.
The I Love Little Italy Short Film Festival will be held on Sunday, 8 June from 6pm at
Palace Cinemas, 99 Norton Street, Leichhardt.
For further information call Nino Lo Giudice, Co.As.It. Youth Worker on 9564 0744.
Entries close 5pm Friday 9 May 2008
