Vanessa Winship è nata nel 1960 a Londra.Vive e lavora tra Londra e la Turchia. Vanessa Winship è una fotografa inglese, ma ha vissuto e lavorato nei Balcani e in Turchia per quasi un decennio.Nelle sue immagini, si concentra la congiunzione tra finzione e realtà, esplorando idee intorno ai concetti di confine, terra, memoria, identità e storia. After studying cinema and photography at Westminster University (Polytechnic of Central London), Vanessa began as a teacher and then worked for the National Science Museum in London. Afterward, she became a freelance photographer at home and abroad. Vanessa has worked as an independent photographer.In 2005 she joined “Agence VU” in Paris, and since 2009 is represented by their gallery in France.Vanessa lived and worked in the Balkans and Turkey for almost a decade, she is currently based in the UK.She is interested in ideas around the concepts of borders, land, desire, identity memory and history, and about how those histories are told and identities are expressed.Her imagery explores the junction between chronicle and fiction, both through her visual imagery and through the use of text, which she refers to as memory texts. Her work has been recognised internationally. The following year she undertook a long term project on the Balkans, and received an honourable mention in the Oscar Barnack competition for her “Albanian landscape” project in 2003. She now lives in London. She has received two first prize World Press Photo Awards: in 1998, and in 2008 respectively. In 2008 in portrait category with the serie “Sweet Nothings”.
