ITALIAN UNIVERSITY DEGREE SYSTEM The degree structure at the University of Bologna is based on the so-called Bologna Process. The most central aims of the Bologna Pr ocess include increased mobility, transparency of education systems, compa rability of degrees and quality assu rance at various levels. • 1st cycle, the Laurea degree (180 credits/3 years = Bachelor ’s degree). • 2nd cycle, the Laurea Magistrale degree (120 credits/2 years = Master ’s degree). • 3rd cycle, the Dottorato di ricerca and the Diploma di Specializzazione (leading to a postgraduate degree = PhD and Specialisation degree). The University of Bologna offers advanced scientific programmes or higher continuing education studies (professional master ’s programmes) open to the holders of a 1st cycle or 2nd cycle or comparable foreign degree. Length: minimum 1year; workload: 60 credits at least. These qualifications ar e called Master universitario di primo or secondo livello and do not give access to the 3rd c ycle in Italy . Rimini’s unique location and facilities, its international vocation together with its excellent Faculty of Economics create the best opportunities for students to de velop their research talents and to prepare for successful p rofessio nal careers. SCHOLARSHIPS The University of Bologna will select 6 talented students to be granted with full fees exemption. Call for application will be announced on the web page. Deadline 30th April 2011. LEARNING OUTCOMES Students will acquire a good knowledge at an advanced level of the main fields in economics. They will also become specialized in applied economics, finance and management. They will be able to consider the possibility of getting a Double Degree with a top European University, enlarging both their specialization choices and their job opportunities in the European labour market. They can benefit of the signed international agreements specific of this Degree (e.g. with NES or within the LLP-IP BOLOVIFR project). REQUIREMEN TS AND/OR ADMISSION TESTS Admission requires a 1st cycle University Degree (Bachelor's Degree) or a comparable qualification in Economics, Political Sciences and international relations, Management Sciences, Statistics. For first degrees different from the Classes listed ab ove, the admission to LM-EPM is subject to a preliminary assessment by a jury, which will verify the applicants’ required skills and kn owledge by means of an evaluation of the applicant’s CV and additional documents the applicants may be asked to provide. The jury, nominated by the Board of LM-EPM will establish a schedule, f rom September to December, for the screening of the applications, which will be published on the University web site. PROGRAMME CONTENT The programme, which offers both core courses in quantitative economics and econometrics and a number of elective courses, has a flexible structu re and can be tailored to suit both practitioners and research profiles. Students work closely with distinguished faculty Members and foreign professors f rom the Universities of Cambridge (U.K), Guelph and Waterloo (Ontario), Simon Fraser (British Columbia), HSE (Moscow), South Carolina (US) in a p rogramme designed to meet individual research interests and professional goals. Compulsory courses c over Micro-Macroeconomics, Mathematics, Econometrics. Students have to choose among several elective courses. During the 2 nd year students must prepare a disse rtation.
