Ore 3.32 del 6 aprile 2009: non c’è persona, a L’Aquila e provincia, che possa non ricordare quella notte e non sono
poche le persone che, probabilmente, mai la dimenticheranno.
Questa però non è una storia sul sisma che sconvolse una delle città più belle del centro Italia e il suo hinterland, è
il racconto di come la passione per la propria terra e il desiderio di rinascita abbiano ispirato un architetto del luogo,
Fabrizio Cantelmi, e poi dato vita al centro benessere Orchidea, all’interno della struttura ricettiva del Park Hotel di
Ovindoli.

L’idea.
Il terremoto che colpì così tragicamente il capoluogo della regione Abruzzo, distante solo poche decine di chilometri da
Ovindoli, scosse in modo forte e violento tutti i turisti e gli abitanti presenti in quei luoghi. Tra le montagne le strutture
murarie degli edifici resistettero, nel frattempo i luoghi dediti a ospitare i viandanti si trovarono a confrontarsi con mezzi
militari e organizzazioni prima poco conosciute.
Il progetto parte proprio dalla volontà di riconoscere questo territorio come luogo dove è importante apprezzare il contatto
con la natura, dedito all’accoglienza e al vivere con i prodotti sani, frutto della terra.
Trova infatti lettura, in questa, la contemporanea realizzazione all’interno della struttura di un’area esterna destinata a
parco denominata Parco delle Betulle, dove è possibile fare attività ginnica e al contempo ammirare bellezze naturali;
inoltre, si evidenzia una riqualificazione alberghiera tendente a realizzare una serie di luoghi dediti all’accoglienza, quali
un Kinderheim per bambini, una piccola sala teatro, un’area lettura, un aumento degli spazi collettivi e infine il centro
benessere.
Fatti questi dovuti preamboli, si è pensato di realizzare all’interno del centro benessere una vasta area dedicata alle
acque distinte in ben 4 piscine, ognuna con scopi diversi. In tutte si può riscontrare la volontà, da parte del progettista,
di far vivere questi momenti di relax con distanze prossemiche che mantengano l’equilibrio tra le diverse bolle d’aria.
Attorno a quest’area gravitano le saune e i bagni vapore. In tutta l’area è stata fatta molta attenzione a dare una luce
calda e poco invasiva, inoltre si è voluto usare solo pietre naturali, grezze e scabre. Una grande attenzione è stata rivolta
alla luce esterna, che proviene da ampie finestrature le quali fanno scorgere un panorama verde antesignano di quello
che è presente fuori della struttura.
La SPA.
Nell’affascinante scenario dell’Altopiano delle Rocche, cuore del Parco regionale Sirente Velino, in prossimità della nota
stazione sciistica del Monte Magnola, il Centro Benessere Orchidea di Ovindoli si estende dunque per circa 400 metri
quadrati e comprende al suo interno piscine relax e fiume, docce emozionali, sauna finlandese e SalSauna, percorso
Kneipp, bagno turco, aree relax e fitness ed una tisaneria.
L’area beauty dispone delle cabine massaggi e rituali viso e corpo con le linee naturali Pevonia, dove viene utilizzato il
lettino multifunzione Lemi Eikos, dal design lineare, il lettino Syncro Bizak, un mix tra resistenza e multifunzionalità e
Aqa Wood, la nuova wet table dotata di un funzionale vibromassaggio ad acqua che la rende ideale per tutti i trattamenti
bagnati quali scrub, avvolgimenti corpo, fanghi e che consente il risciacquo e la pulizia completa del corpo alla fine del
trattamento, evitando di dover predisporre una doccia in cabina: distintivo, in Aqa Wood, è il bagno di vapore, creato
grazie ad un potente generatore in acciaio inox.
Un maggiore contatto con la natura, rispetto del proprio territorio da parte di chi lo abita e di chi lo visita: sono l’humus
fertile dal quale è nato il Centro Benessere Orchidea e dal quale potrebbe rinascere la passione per la propria terra e
per il benessere.

A tragedy gives rise to the flower of Wellness. April 6th
2009 - 3:32 AM: there’s nobody in L’Aquila and its surrounding province who
doesn’t remember that night, and most will likely never forget it. But this story
is not about the terrible earthquake that struck one of the central Italy’s most
beautiful cities and its hinterland. It’s the story of how a passion for the land
(and the desire to reconstruct it) inspired a local architect, Fabrizio Cantelmi,
thus giving rise to the Orchidea wellness center, inside Ovindoli’s Park Hotel.
The Idea. The tragic earthquake that so violently struck the capital city of
Italy’s Abruzzo region, at just a few kilometers from the town of Ovindoli, also
significantly shocked all the tourists and residents who were there at the time.
While the walls of the buildings in the mountains resisted, the structures that
were dedicated to hosting travellers found themselves working with military
outfits and other organizations that they had never dealt with before.
The project thus sprang from the desire to reaffirm the area as a place for
nature lovers: a place that’s entirely dedicated to hospitality and to a culinary
lifestyle based largely on the healthy products offered by nature.
This interpretation, in fact, involved the creation of an external park area within
the structure itself, which would be known as Parco delle Betulle, where
guests can enjoy physical activities while admiring the natural beauty of the
surroundings. The redevelopment of the hotel structure would also provide for
the creation of a series of places dedicated to leisure and recreation, including
a Kinderheim for children, a small auditorium, a reading area, various
additional public spaces and, ultimately, the wellness center itself.
Given these prerequisites, it was decided to build the wellness center inside a
large area dedicated to different types of water in 4 distinct pools: while each
pool would serve a different purpose, each would also reflect the designer’s
desire for the guest to experience these moments of relaxation in enough
solitude so as not to risk invading the personal spaces of the others, while at
the same time allowing them to relax alongside a companion. The saunas and
steam baths all are around this central area. In addition to using exclusively
natural stones, with a rough and rugged texture, a great deal of attention
was also dedicated to ensuring warm and unobtrusive lighting conditions
throughout the entire area. Much focus has also been placed upon natural
lighting, which is provided by large windows, offering spectacular views of the
structure’s surrounding landscape.
The SPA. Nestled amongst the fascinating scenery of the Rocche Plateau,
in the heart of the Sirente Velino Regional Park, not far from the famous ski
resort of Monte Magnola, the Orchidea Wellness Center in Ovindoli covers an
area of nearly 400 square meters, offering relaxation pools, a river, experience
showers, a Finnish sauna and SalSauna, Kneipp therapy, a Turkish bath,
relaxation and fitness areas and a tea room.
The beauty area is equipped with massage and ritual cabins for the face and
body, featuring natural Pevonia products and the Lemi products Eikos, a
multifunctional table characterized by its linear design, the Syncro Bizak table,
a perfect mix between resistance and multifunctionality, and the Aqa Wood wet
table, which comes complete with a functional water-enhanced vibromassage.
This unit is ideal for any type of wet treatment, including scrubs, body wraps
and mud therapy, and even allows for complete body cleansing and rinsing at
the end of the treatment, with no need for an in-cabin shower: the Aqa Wood’s
most innovative function, however, is its steam bath, which is provided thanks
to a powerful stainless steel generator.
Greater contact with nature and complete respect for the territory on behalf
of its residents and visitors: these are the founding principles upon which the
Orchidea Wellness Center was built, thus resulting in a newfound passion for
the land itself, as well as for personal wellness.

L’Architetto Fabrizio Cantelmi, aquilano, vanta molti progetti urbanistici per
committenti pubblici e privati.
Ha infatti realizzato il progetto di miglioramento della rete idrica per il Comune di Cappadocia, di completamento interconnessione della rete idrica
per il Comune di Tagliacozzo; nel settore del recupero e riqualificazione si
ricordano il progetto di recupero e completamento del centro di documentazione diffuso dell’antico borgo del Comune di Villa Vallelonga ed il progetto
di riqualificazione e completamento della viabilità nella zona artigianale di
Avezzano.
A Sulmona, Avezzano, Aielli ed Ovindoli ha realizzato numerosi progetti di
realizzazione e ampliamento di strutture turistiche e attività private. L’architettura d’interni lo ha visto protagonista per la Regione Abruzzo, per un centro benessere a Pescara, per le catene di negozi Murphy&NYE e I.A.C. e per
negozi all’interno di centri commerciali.
Fabrizio Cantelmi Born in L’Aquila, architect Fabrizio Cantelmi’s portfolio boasts a large number of urban projects for both public and private
clients. In fact, his works include the improvement of the water network for
the Municipality of Cappadocia, the completion of the water network interconnection for the Municipality of Tagliacozzo, the restoration and completion of the extensive documentation center in the ancient village of the Municipality of Villa Vallelonga and the redevelopment and completion of the
roadways in the industrial area of Avezzano. He has also built and expanded
a large number of tourism facilities and private businesses in Sulmona, Avezzano, Aielli and Ovindoli. He has completed major interior design projects
for the Region of Abruzzo, a wellness center in Pescara and for the Murphy
& NYE and I.A.C. retail chains, as well as for numerous shops at various
shopping centers.
