Since the middle of the last century, it has been an
Internationally renowned tourist resort, in the middle of
Lake Maggiore in a panoramic and picturesque setting,
facing the Borromeo Islands: Isola Bella, Isola Pescatori,
Isola Madre. Many splendid villas, among which, Villa
Pallavicino, with its zoo park, Villa Bolongaro, now called
Villa Ducale (1770) where philosopher Antonio Rosmini
died in (1885). Today it houses the International Centre of
Rosmini Studies. Stresa, the cradle of conferences that take
place in the Palacongressi in the town centre and in the
larger hotels along the lakefront, from July to September,
has another great attraction - its Festival of classical music
the Settimane Musicali di Stresa. From Stresa’s lakeside
departs the cable-car to Monte Mottarone, at 1491 mt.

Innegabilmente la più nota, capolavoro di ingegno
umano incastonato come una gemma sullo specchio del
lago. Colpisce immediatamente lo splendido Palazzo Borromeo, ma subito la meraviglia del giardino all’italiana, posto su dieci terrazze degradanti verso la sponda del lago,
tenta di offuscarne la bellezza; difficile dire cosa più emozioni il turista, probabilmente è l’insieme delle due opere,
mirabilmente congiunte in un trionfo del Barocco, ad offrire suggestioni anche al visitatore più distratto.

eingerahmt. Es beeindruckt sofort der herrliche Borromeo
Palast,aber dann versucht sofort der zauberhafte italienische
Garten, abgestuft auf zehn Terrassen in Richtung Seeufer,
die Schönheit zu verschleiern; es ist schwierig zu sagen
was den Touristen mehr beeindruckt, wahrscheinlich das
Zusammen der zwei bewundernswerten Werke, vereinigt in
einem Triumph des Barock, was selbst den abgelenktesten
Besucher beeindruckt.
Isola Pescatori
La plus grande des îles du lac Majeur. Un immense jardin botanique flottant d’où des milliers de variété de plantes réussissent à recréer leur propre habitat dans lequel
ils peuvent pousser de manière luxuriante, créant ainsi de
bien curieux rapprochements chromatiques qui laisseraient stupéfait le plus audacieux des peintres. En flânant
dans les allées du jardin, l’esprit courre rapidement vers
les pays lointains de provenance de certaines variétés de
plantes et on est surpris de les voir si bien acclimatées. Ici
tout semble se mouvoir lentement et doucement et seul le
gazouillis des joyeux perroquet ou le passage majestueux
des paons qui font la roue dissipe le chanceux visiteur de
l’indolente détente que le jardin lui procure.

faszinierende, sie empfängt die Touristen mit ihren

Santa Caterina del Sasso
Il Santuario di Santa Caterina del Sasso, che sorge
su uno sperone di roccia in territorio di Leggiuno, è
probabilmente il luogo più suggestivo del Lago Maggiore.
Il complesso architettonico risale al XII secolo.
The Shrine of Santa Caterina del Sasso, which stands
on a spur of rock in the territory of Leggiuno, is probably
the most striking place of Lake Maggiore. The architectural complex dates back to the twelfth century.
Le sanctuaire de Santa Caterina del Sasso, qui se lève
sur l’éperon de roche dans le territoire de Leggiuno, est
probablement le lieu le plus suggestiv du Lac Majeur. Le
complexe architectonique est du XII siècle.
Isola Pescatori (the fisherman’s island) is the smallest
one of the Borromeo Islands but not less fascinating; the
islands welcomes the tourist with is small and ancient
alleys, its typical restaurants: the sudden glimpse of landscape that open up suddenly in front of their eyes and
in the same sudden way change or disapper, baffing and
delighting the visitor who is covering the narrow lanes or
the steep flight of stone steps.
Isola Madre
La più grande delle isole borromee. Un immenso giardino botanico galleggiante dove migliaia di varietà di piante riescono a ricrearsi un proprio habitat in cui crescere rigogliosamente creando curiosi accostamenti cromatici che
lascerebbero stupefatto il più audace pittore. Passeggiando
pigramente attraverso i viali del giardino la mente corre
veloce ai lontani paesi di provenienza di alcune varietà di
piante e stupisce il vederle così bene ambientate. Tutto qui
E` la più piccola ma certo non la meno affascinante
delle Isole Borromee, accoglie il turista con i suoi vialetti
antichi, i suoi tipici ristoranti, gli improvvisi scorci paesaggistici che si aprono repentinamente agli occhi ed altrettanto repentinamente mutano o scompaiono sconcertando e deliziando l’ospite che percorre gli stretti vicoli o le
ripide scalinate in ciottoli. Vi sembrerà di essere riportati
in un mondo antico, fatto di calma e gioia di vivere, di
pescatori che riparano le reti.

Isola Bella
The biggest one of Lake Maggiore Islands. A huge
floating botanical garden where thousands of plants are
able to recreate their habitat in order to grow in full bloom
by creating strange colors matching that will amaze the
most daring painter. Walking lazily through the avenues of
the garden ones’ imagination travels fast contemplating
the far-distant countries of
origin of certain varieties of
plants and is amazed to see
them so well acclimatised.
Everything here seems to
move with a relaxed pace
and only the call of the lively parrots or the majestic
fluttering of the peacocks
fanning their tails distracts
the visitor from the idle relaxing air that this garden
instils.
Die größten Insel des Lago Maggiore. Ein enormer
schwimmender, botanischer Garten, wo tausende von
verschiedenen Pflanzen es schaffen, sich ihr eigenes
Habitat aufzubauen in dem sie üppig in einer Farbenpracht
wachsen, die selbst den mutigsten Maler verblüffen
würde. Während man langsam auf den Gartenwegen
spazieren geht, denkt man an die fernen Länder, woher
einige Pflanzensorten kommen und man wundert sich,
dass sie sich so gut angepasst haben. Alles scheint hier
sich langsam und sanft zu bewegen, und nur der Ruf der
fröhlichen Papageien oder das majestätische Schwanken
der Pfauen, die ein Rad schlagen, lenken den glücklichen
Besucher von der faulen Entspannung, die der Garten
einflößt, ab.

l’île Belle (Isola Bella), qui, nul ne pourra le nier, constitue un chef-d’œuvre en matière d’ingéniosité Humaine. Elle
semble certie comme une pierre précieuse sur le miroir du
lac. Vous serez immédiatement frappés par le splendide
Palais Borromée, mais subitement, vous serez également
merveilleusement surpris par le jardin à l’italienne, qui lui
se trouve positionné sur dix terrasses qui descendent en
dégradé en direction du rivage, ce qui aura pour résultat
de masquer la beauté du Palais . Il vous sera alors difficile
de dire, en tant que touriste, ce qui vous aura le plus émus.
Plus probablement, ce sera l’ensemble des deux œuvres
qui ont été admirablement unies dans un triomphe du
Baroque, réussissant jusqu’à attirer l’attention et offrir des
suggestions même aux visiteurs les plus distraits.

Seit der Hälfte des letzten Jahrhunderts ist Stresa ein
Internationaler Ferienort, in sichtreicher Lage gegenüber
den Borromeo Inseln: Isola Bella, Isola Pescatori, Isola
Madre.zahlreiche wunderschöne Villen, u. a. Villa Pallavicino
mit Park und Zoo, Villa Bolongaro, später Villa Ducale
genannt (1770), wo 1885 der Philosoph Antonio Rosmini
starb, Sitz des International Studienzentrum. Stresa, Ort
der Kongresse, die im Palacongressi im Stadtzentrum
und in den großen Hotels an der Seepromenade vom Juli
bis September stattfinden, hat, den “Settimane musicali”
(Musikwochen) die klassische Musik als Protagonistin. Von
Stresa aus fährt eine Seilbahn auf den Mottarone Berg
(1491 m).
Denominata “perla del Lago Maggiore”, centro di
rilievo turistico internazionale, è situata di fronte alle
Isole Borromee. Numerose e splendide ville tra cui il parco
zoologico di Villa Pallavicino, la Villa Ducale (1770) dove
mori nel 1885 il filosofo Antonio Rosmini, oggi sede del
centro Internazionale di Studi Rosminiani. Stresa, culla dei
congressi che si svolgono nel Palacongressi del centro
della città e nei grandi alberghi del lungolago, da luglio
a settembre, vede la musica classica protagonista con le
“Settimane Musicali”. Da Stresa parte la funivia che porta
al Monte Mottarone (mt 1491).
Depuis la seconde moitiè du siècle dernier, c’est un

Villa Bolongaro, appelèe Villa Ducale (1770) où mourut,
en 1885, le philosophe Antonio Rosmini et où se trouve
actuellement le centre International d’études ”Rosmini”. A
Stresa, berceau des congrès qui se tiennent au Palais des
Congrès du centre ville et des grands hôtels du bord du
lac, de juillet à septembre, la musique classique devient
protagoniste avec les « semaines musicales ». De Stresa
part le funiculaire qui porte au Mont Mottarone (mt 1491).
