Curriculum vitae:
Maria Sabrina Sarto was born in 1968. She pursued the Laurea Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1993
from Sapienza University of Rome and the PhD in Electrical Engineering from the same University in 1997.
Since 2005 she has been Professor of Electrotechnology at the Faculty of Engineering of Sapienza University
of Rome, where she currently teaches the courses of Electrotechology for the degree in Aerospace
Engineering, Electromagnetic Compatibility for the degree in Electrical Engineering, Design of
Electrical/Electromagnetic Micro/Nanodevices for the degree in Nanotechnology Engineering.
Prof. Sarto has been founder and Director of Research Center on Nanotechnology Applied to Engineering of
Sapienza since 2006, Director of the Electromagnetic Compatibility Laboratory of the Department of
Electrical Engineering since 1998, Director of the Joint Lab on Micro/Nanotechnologies for industrial
applications of Sapienza Innovation Consortium since 2007, Director of the Nantoechnology and
Nanoscience Laboratory of Sapienza University of Rome. She has published more than 100 papers in the
field of EMC, numerical electromagnetics, nanomaterials for EMC.
Prof. Sarto has been Distinguished lecturer of the IEEE EMC Society in 2001-2002, Associate Editor of IEEE
EMC Transactions since 1998, co-chair of the IEEE EMC Society TC11 on “Nanotechnology and Advanced
Materials” since 2007, member of the Advisory Board of the IEEE Council on Nanotechnology since 2006,
Chair of the working group IEEE STD 299.1 of IEEE EMC Society since 2006.
Prof. Sarto received several awards during her carrier: in 1993 the Best Paper Award of the 1993 IEEE
International Symposium on EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) - Dallas; in 1996 and in 1997 the Past
President's Memorial Awards of the IEEE EMC Society as the best joung researcher in the field of
Electromagnetic Compatibility; in 1997 and 2001, the Prize Paper Awards for the Best Paper published on
the IEEE Transactions on EMC in 1996 and 2000, respectively; in 2000, the Best Paper Award of the
International Symposium EMC Europe 2000 - Brugge; in 2002, the Wright Brother Medal of SAE (Society of
Automotive and Aerospace Engineers) for the best paper published in any SAE journals in 2001; in 2005, the
Best Paper Award of the 2005 IEEE International Symposium on EMC – Chicago; in 2009, Sapienza Research
Award for the research entitled: "New nanostructured materials for EM shielding".
In 2010, Prof. Sarto has been appointed Fellow of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering)
“For out standing contribution in the field of advanced materials for EMC”.
