11th International Workshop on Neonatology
October 26th-31st, 2015 – Cagliari (Italy)

Invitation letter
Lettera di invito
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to the 11th International Workshop on Neonatology to be held in
Cagliari, Italy. This follows the success of the previous editions which saw the overall presence
of more than 5700 participants. Workshop 11 is an important milestone and is accompanied by
recognition by many national and international scientific societies, and participation of UNICEF.
The title of the workshop “From the womb to the adult” underscores this itinerary: a view towards
the future of perinatology through debate and the contribution of the Workshop, but above all
the trajectory that assistance, research and teaching will follow in the coming years, in an
integrated way with the medicine of the adult. Some of the world’s most renowned specialists
from forty different nations have been present in Cagliari in these years. They have created
a network of scientific and human relations that have changed, improved and enriched us
all. This year the proceedings of the Workshop will be published in the “Journal of Pediatric
and Neonatal Individualized Medicine” (JPNIM). In past years the journals were “Medical and
Surgical Pediatrics”, “Journal of Chemotherapy”, “Journal of Maternal Fetal Neonatal Medicine”,
“Clinica Chimica Acta” and JPNIM. Over the years, the Workshop has made its impression on
science and has promoted a lively discussion in an always serene and extremely constructive
atmosphere.
This year’s meeting is organized with the patronage of the Italian Society of Neonatology
(SIN), the Italian Society of Pediatrics (SIP), the Italian Society of Perinatal Medicine (SIMP),
The Italian Federation of Pediatricians (FIMP), the Union of European Neonatal and Perinatal
Societies (UENPS), the Union of Mediterranean Neonatal Societies (UMENS), the International
Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC), and lastly by the Italian
National Observatory of Residents in Paediatrics (ONSP). The meeting is dedicated to
neonatologists, pediatricians, obstetricians, perinatologists, laboratory researchers, pediatric
cardiologists and all those who work with the newborn. Besides the traditional appointment of
the International Workshop, there will be seven satellite meetings: “A SPECIAL day” for young
fellows; the tenth edition of the “Terra di Sardegna Meeting on Neonatological Nursing” with the
participation of nurses from more than ten neonatal intensive care units; the second meeting
titled “New Frontiers in Preventive and Social Pediatrics” that focuses attention on common
neonatal problems and immunity; the 1st perinatal meeting “The future of Perinatal Medicine”
devoted to clinical and organizative topics; the 5th International Conference on Neonatal and
Pediatric Laboratory Medicine where the theme will discuss how to improve the organization and
results, will face biomarkers and present the European Projct ACTION on aggression; finally,
the 2nd International Course on Perinatal Pathology, where perinatologists and pathologists will
come together to address systematically the cutting-edge topic of stem cells and their practical
consequences in neonatology.
Great attention will be devoted to young specialists: in the last few years the events have been
extended through presentation of numerous selected posters for each meeting and numerous
prizes of 500 euros have been awarded for the best contributions (this year we have 6 prizes).
Moreover this year a specific part of the Workshop, “A SPECIAL day”, dedicated to pediatric
fellows, will present some of their experiences.
We look forward to welcoming you to this traditional appointment to discuss topics of the
present and keep us up to date on the latest results, both in research and clinical neonatology
and pediatrics.
Cari Colleghi,
del Workshop saranno pubblicati sul “Journal of Pediatric and Neonatal Individualized Medicine
(JPNIM)”. Negli anni precedenti le riviste sono state “Medical and Surgical Pediatrics”, “Journal
of Chemotherapy”, “Journal of Maternal Fetal Neonatal Medicine”, “Clinica Chimica Acta” e
JPNIM.
and Perinatal Societies (UENPS), della Union of Mediterranean Neonatal Societes (UMENS),
della International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC) e, infine,
dell’Osservatorio Nazionale Specializzandi Pediatria (ONSP). Il convegno è dedicato a
Neonatologi, Pediatri, Ostetrici, Perinatologi, Laboratoristi, Cardiologi Pediatri, e a tutti coloro
Convegno “New Frontiers in Preventive and Social Pediatrics” che focalizza l’attenzione sulle
patologie neonatali frequenti e sull’immunità; il 1° Meeting Perinatale “The Future of Perinatal
Medicine” dedicato a problematiche assistenziali e organizzative; la 5th International Conference
on Neonatal and Pediatric Laboratory Medicine, dove si cercheranno soluzioni per ridurre la
mortalità infantile; infine il 2nd International Course on Perinatal Pathology, dove Perinatologi e

The Journal of Pediatric and Neonatal Individualized Medicine (JPNIM) is the
Official Journal UENPS (Union of European Neonatal & Perinatal Societies)
DESCRIPTION
The Journal of Pediatric and Neonatal Individualized Medicine is a peer-reviewed interdisciplinary journal
which provides a forum on new perspectives in pediatric and neonatal medicine. The aim is to discuss and to
bring readers up to date on the latest in research and clinical pediatrics and neonatology. Special emphasis
is on the developmental origin of health and disease, perinatal programming and on the so-called ‘-omics’
sciences. Systems medicine blazes a revolutionary trail from reductionist to holistic medicine, from descriptive
medicine to predictive medicine, from an epidemiological perspective to a personalized approach. The journal
will be relevant to clinicians and researchers concerned with personalized care for newborns and children.
Medical humanities will also be considered in a tailored way.
