 When comparing items in a group, we sometimes express
the superlative (the most, least, -est)
 definite article (+noun) + più/meno + adjective
(+di)
 We use the relative superlative to single out people or things
from others in the same group or with similar characteristics.
Il Superlatvio Relativo
 Note that the definite article is needed to express the
superlative. (il, lo, la, l’, i, gli, le)
 It must agree with the noun that has been previously
mentioned in the sentence.
 The noun and the preposition di are not necessarily needed
in the sentence.
Examples of Il Superlativo Relativo
 Gina è la più intelligente della classe.
 Gina is the most intelligent of the class.
 Questa carne è la meno cara di tutte.
 This meat is the least expensive of all.

Il Superlativo Assoluto
 The absolute superlative expresses the highest
possible degree of a quality or characteristic.
 he absolute superlative can be expressed with
molto, or by adding the suffix –ssimo, -ssima, ssimi, -ssime to the masculine plural form of
adjectives.
