Dove è nato il primo circuito permanente
per le corse automobilistiche? A Brooklands
in Gran Bretagna. Su che vettura sono stati
utilizzati per la prima volta i moderni freni
a disco? Sulla Jaguar C Type, E chi corse con
il primo telaio monoscocca? La Lotus 25 di
Colin Chapman, e chi mise il motore posteriore
nelle vetture monoposto? John Cooper con
le piccole vetture di F3, e la famosa “forma a
cuneo” della Lotus 72 chi non la ricorda ? in
un mattino fece invecchiare tutte le altre F1!!!
Questi sono solamente alcuni dei prodotti
che la famosa Scuola Inglese produsse dalla
fine degli anni ’40 in poi, rivoluzionando
in maniera totale il mondo delle corse
automobilistiche. Se poi scorriamo l’elenco dei
campioni del Mondo di F1, la Gran Bretagna
è la nazione che ha più Campioni, Hawtorn,
Clark, Stewart, Hill padre e figlio, solo per
citarne alcuni, a cui vogliamo aggiungere
anche Stirling Moss mai campione del Mondo
ma Campione a tutti gli effetti!!!
Ferrari li chiamava, in senso un po’
dispregiativo, “garagisti” ma ormai possiamo
dire che, per una volta, sbagliava…
La Silver Flag quest’anno parlerà inglese, sarà
“Best of British” dedicato cioè a quelle vetture
, Aston Martin, Bentley, BRM, Jaguar, Lotus,
Frazer Nash, Chevron, March, Mclaren e tante
altre, che hanno contribuito in grandissima
parte a fare la storia dell’Automobilismo da
Corsa …della Leggenda…
“Rule Britannia…”

brakes? Jaguar C Type. Who ran using the
first monocoque chassis? Colin Chapman’s
Lotus 25. And who put the engine in the
rear part of single-seat cars? John Cooper
with small F3 cars, and the famous
“wedge” shape of Lotus 72. Who does not
remember it? One morning he made all
the other F1 cars old!
These are just some of the products from
the famous English School from late
‘40s onwards: a complete revolution in
the world of motor racing. If you scroll
down the list of the F1 World Champions,
Britain is the nation with more Campions:
Hawtorn, Clark, Stewart, Hill, father and
son, just to name a few, and we want to
add even Stirling Mossn never Champion
but World Champion to all intents and
purpose!
Ferrari called them, in derogatory way,
“garage men”, but now we can say that,
for once, he was wrong ...
Silver Flag this year will speak English,
will be “Best of British” that is, dedicated
to those cars, Aston Martin, Bentley, BRM,
Jaguar, Lotus, Frazer Nash, Chevron,
March, McLaren and many others, which
have contributed in large part to make
history of Automobile Racing. ... the Legend
“Rule Britannia…”
