Maria Giustina Laurenzi is an Italian Language and Literature graduate.
She attended Gigliola Scola’s screenplay course and Dacia Maraini’s scriptwriting course.
From 1977 to 1980, she was assistant lecturer in History of Theatre and Performance at the University of Salerno
(Professor E. Bruno).
From 1970 to 1980, she worked as an actress, entertainer and field researcher with TEATROGRUPPO in Salerno, and
was involved in many shows that were represented at the Piccola Scala theatre in Milan, the Lenzburg Festival and the
Chieri Festival, among other locations.
In 1977, she founded the theatre company TEATRA, which she managed until 1985, and for which she wrote and
produced the following plays:

From 1980, she worked closely with Dacia Maraini, directing many of her screenplays for theatre, cinema and radio.

She worked for the Italian Institute of Culture in Paris (a film festival at the Centre G. Pompidou), São Paulo, Brazil
(a show on Pinocchio with Brazilian actors) and London (the musical work Zeza a corte, with Lorenzo Gigliotti).
In London, she also produced a musical show by Hanja Kochansky and carried out research on international video art
for Filmcritica magazine.
For cinema, she wrote:

She collaborated with Lina Wertmuller and Raffaele La Capria on the script of Napoli luntanamente.

Laurenzi is often invited to hold theatre, video, and radio and movie scriptwriting courses.
La regista presenta il filmato dedicato
alla figura ed all`opera di ”Trotula De
Ruggiero” che, riconosciuta magistra,
trovava nelle erbe e nel silicio i propri
medicamenti, da lei preparati nei laboratori di cui vi sono ancora oggi tracce
nei Giardini della Minerva a Salerno.
Trotula è la più nota tra le mulieres
Salernitanae ovvero le appartenenti a
quella cerchia di studiose che prestavano insegnamento o erano attive intorno alla Scuola medica di Salerno.
The filmmaker presents her documentary on
the life and work of ”Trotula De Ruggiero” the
eminent physician who produced her remedies
from herbes and silica.
Traces of the laboratories where she worked
remain in the Giardini della Minerva botanic
gardens in Salerno.
Trotula is the most well known of the “mulieres
Salernitanae”, the circle of scholars who
worked or were active teaching at the Medical
School of Salerno.
