Identità di un passaggio di stato
Daa è l’incontro tra un processo dedicato alla produzione
di meccanica pesante e il design del mobile.
Una via alternativa alla produzione seriale che pone dodici
designer e l’eccellenza industriale Made in Italy di fronte
a una sfida inedita: realizzare complementi d’arredo
attraverso gli strumenti e le abilità con cui si creano benne,
bracci e telai per macchine movimento terra.
“Da a” significa dunque compiere un passaggio di stato.
Come l’acqua reagisce alla temperatura assumendo
sempre forme nuove, così un processo destinato a monolitici
componenti meccanici genera, catalizzato dal confronto
con il progettista, una nuova visione del design.
È nello spazio bianco e nell’assoluta libertà creativa
che risiede la forza e la sfida di questa esperienza di frontiera.
L’assenza di un possibile confronto con percorsi precedenti
e la possibilità di non riferirsi a stilemi predefiniti,
generano un perfetto equilibrio tra la personalità dei singoli
designer e l’idea che Daa vuole affermare e trasmettere.
Un’identità caratterizzata da un costante “in divenire”
e, al contempo, da una precisa e consistente unicità.
Daa include nell’oggetto una pluralità di voci per crearne
una nuova, più forte e netta, fatta del rapporto plastico
che si crea tra designer e materie, il metallo e non solo,
processo industriale e abilità artigiana nel saldare, piegare,
rifinire. Una coesione capace anche di dare nuova collocazione
e valore al saper fare industria in Italia: la capacità produttiva,
la ricerca di nuove soluzioni tecnologiche, il recupero
e valorizzazione di tecniche di lavorazione millenarie.
Daa racconta attraverso i propri prodotti una riflessione
capace di entrare in ogni tipologia di interior e outdoor,
arredandolo e connotandolo in modo a volte confidenziale
a volte manifesto. Una vocazione artistica che non scivola
mai nella lontananza dall’utilizzatore o nella deliberata
elusione dalla funzionalità dell’oggetto. Daa è ibridazione
di competenze che danno vita a una specie nuova, destinata
a creare, e ricreare nel tempo, infiniti modi di abitare.
Identity of a change of status
Daa is where heavy-duty mechanical industry meets furniture
design. In this alternative to mass production, twelve designers
and Italian industrial know-how face a new challenge:
making home furnishings using the tools and know-how
normally used to make buckets, arms and frames
for earthmoving machinery.
“Da a” means from - to in Italian: a change of status.
Just as water takes on ever-new forms in reaction to changes
in temperature, a process intended for making monolithic
mechanical components generates a new vision of design
inspired by dialogue with architects.
The strength and the challenge of this experience on the frontier
is a blank page representing complete creative freedom.
There can be no comparison with previous experiences,
no references to predefined stylemes, permitting the perfect
balance between individual designers’ personality
and the idea Daa is intended to express and convey.
An identity characterised by constant “becoming” and,
at the same time, precise, consistent uniqueness.
Daa includes a plurality of voices in the object to create a new
object, stronger and clearer, based on the flexible relationship
between designer and material – metal, but also other materials
industrial processes and craftsmanship in welding, bending
and finishing. This cohesion adds new place and new value
to the value of industrial know-how in Italy: productive capacity,
the search for new technological solutions, and a return
to and appreciation of traditional workmanship. Daa’s products
express a reflection capable of going into all kinds of interior
and outdoor settings, furnishing them and adding connotations
which may be confidential or manifest. An artistic vocation
that never slips into distance from the user or deliberate neglect
of the object’s function. Daa is the result of cross-fertilisation
of different fields of know-how, creating a new species destined
to create and recreate infinite ways of living.

È dall’utilizzo degli stampi finalizzati alla realizzazione
di benne ad uso agricolo che nasce Benna, piastra
metallica in lamiera piegata e tagliata v al laser.
Un processo industriale concepito per la meccanica
pesante trova qui una totale reinterpretazione
generando un oggetto in grado di arredare
e personalizzare ambienti interni ed esterni.
Benna articola creativamente gli spazi grazie alla
possibilità di accostare più panche a distanze variabili.
Moulds made for production of buckets for agricultural
equipment are used to make Benna out of folded
and laser-cut sheet metal. An industrial process intended
for heavy-duty mechanical work is reinterpreted to create
a totally new object for customising indoor and outdoor
furnishing. Benna creatively expresses space, putting
together multiple benches at variable distances.

come uno spartito musicale o un fitto bosco di betulle,
così il ferro diventa trasparente e leggero e gli oggetti
contenuti da Mille righe, libri, giornali e riviste, diventano
parte stessa del disegno complessivo. Un approccio
alle geometrie fatto di gioco e libertà espressiva.
Sequences of lines following variable, repeated rhythms,
like a musical score or a thick stand of birch trees,
so that iron becomes clear and lightweight and
the objects contained by Mille righe – books, magazines
and newspapers – become a part of the overall design.

fondato sulla ricerca che si ritrova nella combinazione
tra il razionalismo dei tubi metallici e il cuoio della sedia
Otran e negli sgabelli Saddle Collection, in cui
le forme delle selle da cavallo offrono all’utilizzatore
una molteplice interpretazione del modo di sedersi.
The round shape, a metaphor for comfort and simplicity,
combined with manual braiding reminiscent of hand
craftsmanship, are the keys to the Salento Collection,
an open dialogue between memory and contemporary life.
An approach founded on research that may be found again
in the combination of rationalist metal tubes and leather
on the Otran chair and Saddle Collection of stools,
in which the shape of an equestrian saddle offers a variety
of ways of sitting on it.

Revolving strips of metal wire conceal the sculptural profiles
of the base of Castiglia Associati tables. The rhythmic
alternation of full and empty spaces, light and shadow,
give life to curvaceous, monolithic figures such as Tie
magnetic tables or the feminine curves of dame tables.

units recalling the ancestral geometric order of crystals.

us with their unexpected solidity, concealed behind
