“SPAY DAYS”
(= free spaying/
neutering for stray
cats)
An initiative LEGA PRO ANIMALE started in 2007. Caretakers of stray cats can contact us to get these animals
neutered. They can borrow traps and cages (for a refundable deposit!) from us. These special “spay days” are
announced on our home pages and in some of the local papers. Thanks to so many volunteers we can operate
up to 200 cats in only one day. Everybody has their own single responsibility: checking in of the cats, anaesthesia,
preparation of the animals (fixing them on little trays and shaving them), surgery, placing them back in their cages,
monitoring them until the cats are completely awake. Through this “assembly-line work” the cost to neuter a cat is
reduced, but still we need about Euro 2000,00 for one of these days.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!
LEGA PRO ANIMALE managed to receive for the first time in 25 years a contribution from the local government:
Euro 20,00 per cat. Caretakers from the entire Region immediately caught cats for this project and within 9 months
the total of 1500 surgeries had been reached - BUT THE MONEY FROM THE GOVERNMENT HAS NOT ARRIVED
YET! The Foundation of the Deutscher Tierschutzbund helped and sent the financial support for another 250 cats,
but how do we continue this successful project? Can we turn away caretakers of cats if they would like to s/n the
animals? I am so happy that the population in this area finally accepted neutering as a benefit for their animals.
S/n is the only way to get the stray problem under control. PLEASE HELP US to continue this program! Many

LEGA PRO ANIMALE are trying to maximise all funds dontated. British citizens can make their donation go further by sending it via AISPA, the Anglo-Italian Society
for the Protection of Animals. The major benefit is that they can claim 28% tax back via the Gift Aid Scheme. Clearly, this substantially increases your gift to us. If
you become an annual member (minimum £3), AISPA donates a free spay/neuter to any Italian animal. Live membership is only £50. AISPA was founded in 1952 and,
in addition to LEGA PRO ANIMALE, supports around 30 other sanctuaries in Italy.
