BIANCHI & MTB: 22 YEARS
OF VICTORIES AND TECH INNOVATION
Sports achievements in the most important national and international races, technological innovation, research, green strategy. Bianchi built
its 22-year-old adventure in the mountain-bike
world over these strong drivers. Today, Bianchi’s
official MTB Team is one of the most successful
squads in the sport, as well as a breeding ground
for young bikers.
Bianchi MTB team was founded in 1991 to develop and improve Bianchi’s off-road frames and
products. Since then, Bianchi claimed impressive
results in major international MTB competitions,
while improving its products by leveraging the
use of new technologies, geometries and materials. Today, Bianchi holds a steady position in the
MTB sector and keeps on investing in technology
with a dedicated Product Department, paying
close attention to new materials, advanced
components and intense testing activity. Bianchi’s attention to the world of professional MTB
perfectly matches the most exigent customers’
needs.
Well-known athletes with the likes of former
World Champion Dario Acquaroli (who started
racing on a Bianchi bike), Olympic and World
Champion Julien Abasalon, Josè Hermida (former Under23 World Champion), Italian Bruno
Zanchi (Multiple-time downhill champion) and
Marathon specialists Leonardo Paez and Thomas
Dietsch brought Bianchi to the top of international rankings.
For 2013 season Bianchi MTB Elite-U23 team,
having TX Active by Italcementi as main sponsor,
lines up a five-man roster including Italian Tony
Longo, Colombian Leonardo Paez, the newcomers Swiss Martin Gujan and Austrian Alexander
Gehbauer, the well-known World MTB’s rising
star Gerhard Kerschbaumer, former European
champion, multi-winner of Italian champion’s
title and “king” of several rounds of XCO World
Cup as well as the final ranking in Under 23 category in 2011. Cycling legend Felice Gimondi
is the President of TX Active-Bianchi team, with
former professional rider Massimo Ghirotto as
Team Manager. Andrea Ferrero is the Junior Manager.
Junior Team’s roster is made by juniors Federico
Barri, Cristian Boffelli and Chiara Teocchi, cadets
Giorgio Rossi and Oscar Vairetti, rookie Katia
Moro.
Bianchi truly believes in the value of the MTB activity in an ecological perspective, same as Italcementi Group, a multinational company committed to support ECO-sustainable sports activity. In
fact, only a few and selected partners had the
chance to associate their brands with to Bianchi’s identity and valued.
Bianchi will supply 2013 TX Active-Bianchi’s
Elite-Under 23 team with three Bianchi highend models: Methanol SL2, Methanol 29SL and
the brand-new Methanol 29 Full Suspension.
The three carbon frames match stiffness and
lightweight thanks to Bianchi’s technologies and
XC geometry, assuring the best reactivity. On the
other hand, the Junior Team will race on Methanol SX2 bikes.

BIANCHI METHANOL 29 FS
The Methanol 29 FS, Bianchi’s newborn marking
the return of Italian company in the Full Suspended sector, shares with its “syster” Methanol 29 SL
the Racing geometry, proven by two years full of
victories all over the world with the team TX Active-Bianchi, oriented to optimize the performance.
The heart of the Methanol 29 FS is the monocoque
carbon frame built with high modulus fibers – Toray 40T – 30T and T700 and the 4 Bar system with
Horst link.
Triple Wall Tube (TWT) technology increases
strength, reactivity and stiffness, improving reactivity and ride control. Thanks to reinforcement carbon
ribs embedded and molded into the structure, Bianchi ERC technology (Embedded Reinforcement
Construction) reduces power wasting while contributing to frame stiffness, thanks to carbon ribs
embedded and molded into structure in the tubes
exposed to the highest torsion and stress. Bottom
bracket Press-Fit 30, 142 mm rear axle, full carbon
compound level, tapered headtube and asymmetrical seat stays help as well to reduce the power
wasting during the riding, confirming the Racing
character of the Methanol. The use of a shock absorption system with remote block control set in the
handlebar assures to the rider the total control of
the suspension’s operation, allowing him to optimize time by time the reactivity or the absorption of
the asperities, depending on the race situation or
the driving style. This system helps to a better distribution of the effort during all the race period and
then to a better result.
The Ti-NET Protection, a titanium net inserted in
the carbon fiber in the down tube acting as a frame
protection barrier, increases impact resistance and
frame lifetime. The frame weight, with integrated
seat post, is 1,970 kg (size 19”). Methanol 29 SL
Team Replica bike with carbon Crankbrothers Cobalt 11 wheels, is characterized by Magura TS8
and MT8 fork and brakes, Selle San Marco Concor Protek Carbon FX saddles and SRAM XX1
transmission.

The team’s bike:
BIANCHI METHANOL 26 SL2
Methanol SL2 is the most awarded and proven
bike of the Methanol family, in several racing years.
Evolution of the former Methanol 29 SL, it inherited
Racing geometry and the monocoque construction
of the frame, built with three different high modulus fibers Toray T700 - 40T – 30 T.
Shared with the 29” systers, Triple Wall Tube
(TWT) technology provides great rigidity, reactivity
and strength to the frame, as well as Bianchi ERC
design (Embedded Reinforcement Construction) reduces power wasting while contributing to
frame stiffness, , thanks to carbon ribs embedded
and molded into structure in the tubes exposed to
the highest torsion and stress. BB30, integrated
seatpost, tapered headtube and asymmetrical rear
stays help as well to reduce to minimum the power
wasting during the ride, confirming the Racing character of the Methanol.
Simultaneously, the “S”-shape special design stays
laminated with carbon/glass fibers (SAS - Shock
Absorbing Stays) enhances absorption of vertical shocks on the rear staying, helping to reduce
the transmission of the vibrations to the rider and
then decreasing the global weariness. Finally, the TiNet Protection, a thin titanium net inserted in the
down tube, acts as a frame protection barrier for
the carbon fiber from shocks and rubbles. The frame
weight, with integrated seatopost, is 1,190 kg (19”
size). The Methanol SL2 “Replica” mounts carbon
Crankbrothers Cobalt 11 wheels and is enriched
by FSA K-Force Light components, Magura TS8
and MT8 fork and brakes, is characterized by FSA,
Magura and Selle San Marco Concor Protec Carbon FX saddles and SRAM XX1 transmission.

The team’s bike:
BIANCHI METHANOL 26 SX2
Bianchi Methanol SX2 is the evolution of Methanol
SX frame, projected to guarantee high-level performances during competition, thanks also to the balanced and proven XC reactive geometry, shared with
all the Methanol family. Methanol SX2 is a monocoque carbon frame with unidirectional carbon woven, built with two different fibers: T700 and Toho
IMS60. Top tube and downtube are realized with
Triple Wall Tube (TWT) technology, that enforces
and stiffens to the tubes, allowing the use of smaller sections keeping the same rigidity. Embedded
Reinforcement Construction (ERC) technology
reduces power wasting while contributing to frame
stiffness. Methanol 26 SX2 features tapered headtube, full carbon dropout and carbon cable hanger. It
is the perfect bike for the young athletes and the TX
Active-Bianchi Junior Team’s future champions. The
frame weight is 1,190 grams (19” size).
