I CASTELLI: UN PREZIOSO RETAGGIO STORICO
The project aims to revisit the historical age that saw the castle as
a cultural and social centre and
to evoke the castle, according to
the collective imagination, as a
fabulous place populated by Dames and Knights.
The main activity of the project,
a research on castles, was chosen
for its great importance in each
of the partner countries, as castles are tangible vestiges of the
remarkable past of Old Europe, a
long heritage etched in stone.
Moreover, the project focuses on
the rediscovery of the castles located in the various countries involved in the partnership and on the comparison of their differences and analogies.
During the first year the participants will work on the following themes: Early origins
of castles and their historical background, Architecture and structure, The inhabitants
of castles and Life in a castle as a centre of aggregation.
The areas of work during the second year will include themes like: Myths and Legends, The safeguard and valorization of castles (castles that house museums, castles
converted to hotels, etc.) and their surrounding environment.
All the results will be exchanged, compared and evaluated, and finally documented
in a booklet, on CDs or DVDs and on the website of each school.
Target student group: secondary school students, age 15-19.
Countries involved in the project: Italy, Poland, Portugal and Turkey.
Il progetto mira a recuperare
l’epoca storica, l’Età Medievale, che ha sempre visto il castello
come centro culturale e sociale,
e a rievocare il castello, secondo
l’immaginario collettivo, come
luogo fiabesco popolato da Dame
e Cavalieri.
La principale attività del progetto,
una ricerca sui castelli, è stata scelta per la sua grande importanza
in ciascuno dei paesi partner, dato
che i castelli sono vestigia tangibili dello straordinario passato della
Vecchia Europa, un remoto retaggio storico inciso su pietra.
Inoltre, si focalizzerà l’attenzione sulla riscoperta dei castelli ubicati nei vari paesi
coinvolti nel partenariato e sul confronto delle loro diversità e delle loro analogie.
Durante il primo anno i partecipanti affronteranno i seguenti temi: Le origini dei
castelli e il loro sfondo storico, L’architettura dei castelli, Gli abitanti dei castelli e La
vita nel castello come centro di aggregazione.
Il lavoro del secondo anno includerà temi quali: Miti e Leggende, La salvaguardia e
la valorizzazione dei castelli (castelli che ospitano musei, mostre, castelli adibiti ad
alberghi, ecc.) e il loro ambiente circostante.
Tutti i risultati ottenuti verranno scambiati, confrontati e valutati ed infine documentati su un libretto, su CD o DVD e sul sito web di ogni scuola.
Studenti coinvolti nel progetto: studenti di Scuola Secondaria Superiore di età compresa tra 15 e 19 anni.
Paesi coinvolti nel progetto: Italia, Polonia, Portogallo e Turchia.

Il primo incontro del progetto a Catania
Dal 19 al 23 Ottobre nell’ambito del Programma di Apprendimento Permanente LLP (Lifelong Learning
Programme) si è svolto presso l’ITI “S. Cannizzaro” il primo meeting del progetto Comenius “Castles: a
precious historical heritage”.
Sono stati ospiti dell’Istituto Dirigenti, Docenti e Studenti provenienti dal Portogallo (Marco de Canaveses),
dalla Polonia (Lubartow) e dalla Turchia (Kütahya).
Il Dirigente scolastico prof. Salvatore Indelicato, il vicepreside prof. Salvo Maggio, la referente del progetto prof.ssa Silvana Raccuia, lo staff collaborativo, i proff. Renato G. Bonaccorso - Daniela Contrafatto
- Cettina Di Gregorio - Paola Smecca e gli studenti partecipanti al progetto, hanno riservato agli ospiti una
calorosa accoglienza come è nello stile dell’istituto.
Il programma organizzato per la settimana ha previsto, oltre alle ore di lavoro svolte in Istituto, la visita a
diversi castelli siciliani, nonché passeggiate nella Catania barocca e nei suoi dintorni in cui gli ospiti hanno
potuto gustare la bellezza dei monumenti e dei
paesaggi marini e montani, la bontà della cucina e la cortesia dell’ospitalità.
Alle attività del meeting hanno inoltre partecipato i proff. Salvatore Consoli, Giovanni Di
Bella, Massimo Di Bella, Salvatore Faia, Francesco Guarnera, Donatella Guarrera, Angela
Percolla, Giovanna Poma e Davide Romeo.

The first project meeting in Catania
Within the Lifelong Learning Programme, the
first meeting of the Comenius project “Castles:
a precious historical heritage” took place at
ITI “S.Cannizzaro” from 19th to 23rd October.
The foreign guests, headmasters, teachers and
students, came from Portugal (Marco de Canaveses), from Poland (Lubartow) e from Turkey (Kütahya).
The headmaster Mr Salvatore Indelicato, the assistant headmaster Mr Salvatore Maggio, the coordinator of
the project Mrs Silvana Raccuia, the collaborative staff, Mr Renato Bonaccorso - Mrs Daniela Contrafatto
- Mrs Cettina Di Gregorio - Mrs Paola Smecca and a group of students gave the guests a warm welcome.
During the meeting many activities were planned: group work on the project at school, visit of various
Sicilian castles, as well as walks in the baroque Catania and in its environs where foreign guests had the
opportunity of enjoying the beauty of the monuments, the mountain scenery and the seascape, the good
food and the kind hospitality.
Several other teachers participated in the activities of the meeting: Mr Salvatore Consoli, Mr Giovanni
Di Bella, Mr Massimo Di Bella, Mr Salvatore Faia, Mr Francesco Guarnera, Mrs Donatella Guarrera, Mrs
Angela Percolla, Mrs Giovanna Poma and Mr Davide Romeo.
