BISLAM. Bibliotheca Scriptorum Latinorum Medii
Recentiorisque Aevi is an onomastic, biographical, bibliographical, and literary-historical repertory of Medieval
Latin literature. The volume BISLAM II, published in
2010, comprised 13.174 authors along with 83.124 variants of their names. The repertory is also available online on MIRABILE. Digital Archives for Medieval Culture (www.mirabileweb.it).

This first updating volume enriches the repertory with
686 entries on as many authors. Of these, 592 are new,
while the remaining 94 have been updated on the basis of
recent scholarship, which has brought important new evidence to their bio-bibliographic profiles.
All in all, 728 among specialized studies and bio-bibliographic catalogues were consulted and examined either
partially or in their entirety (see list in the volume).
The main biographical data (date of birth, death or period of activity, chief positions and where those positions
were held, membership in a religious or if any) have been
entered. Literary genres practiced have been catalogued
and all forms of the author’s name as found in editions,
manuscript catalogues, and general and specialised bibliographies have been accounted for. However, most importantly, a critical examination of issues relating to
author identification and attribution of works – an investigation that constitutes the nucleus, as well as the most
important character, of the research – has been carried
out.
About every two years an updating volume including
new acquisitions and updates on previous authors will be
published.

Questo primo fascicolo di aggiornamento arricchisce il
repertorio di 686 voci su altrettanti autori. Di costoro, 592
sono del tutto nuovi rispetto al precedente volume, mentre i restanti 94 sono stati aggiornati sulla base di studi recenti che hanno apportato significative novità al loro profilo bio-bibliografico.
Complessivamente, sono stati consultati e spogliati, integralmente o parzialmente, 728 tra studi specialistici e repertori
bio-bibliografici (il cui elenco può essere consultato all’interno del fascicolo).
Per ciascun autore sono stati registrati i principali dati biografici (le date di nascita, di morte o di attività, le principali
cariche ricoperte, i luoghi nei quali tali cariche sono state ricoperte, l’eventuale appartenenza a un ordine religioso); sono
stati catalogati i generi letterari che egli ha praticato; sono
state censite tutte le forme del suo nome così come si trovano attestate nelle edizioni, nei cataloghi di manoscritti e
nella bibliografia generale e specifica; ma soprattutto è stato
effettuato un esame critico dei problemi riguardanti la sua
identificazione e l’attribuzione delle opere, indagine che
costituisce il nucleo centrale della ricerca nonché la parte
che maggiormente la caratterizza.
Circa ogni due anni è previsto un fascicolo di aggiornamento con nuove acquisizioni e aggiornamenti sugli autori
contenuti nei volumi precedenti.
